Speaker 1:

This is the Good Neighbor Podcast, the place where local businesses and neighbors come together. Here's your host, Stacey Risley.

Speaker 2:

Hello friends and neighbors, welcome to North Atlanta's Good Neighbor Podcast. Today we're here with Justin Williams with Will's CyberTech LLC. Hi, justin, welcome to the show. How are you?

Speaker 3:

Good, good. Hey, stacey, it's good to hear from you again, and whatnot.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, so I first met you, gosh, just a couple of weeks ago at a local chamber event here in Dunwoody, so I'm glad to see your face again so soon. It's nice to have you on. Well, we're going to go ahead and get started and have you. If you will tell our listeners about your business, tell us about Will's CyberTech LLC.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, so what we do at Will's CyberTech LLC is we help a lot of small to maybe medium-sized businesses implement IT support or mobile or web applications that they may find useful, and whatnot.

Speaker 2:

Oh, very cool. Well, our listeners, how did you get into this? Tell us about your journey.

Speaker 3:

So my cousin told me to start an LLC maybe two or three years ago and whatnot, while I was at a full-time job. He recommended I do it just for like tax purposes and stuff. But recently I was laid off, so now my LLC became like my full-time job, so to speak, and whatnot.

Speaker 2:

So that's pretty much how I got started, got started into it, so were you doing tech before? Is that what your full-time job was? Yes, I was All right, and so I don't usually ask all these questions, but I'm just curious. So you said that you help help medium to small or small to medium sized businesses implement tech and and app support, so does that mean you actually like create apps for them, or what do you mean by that?

Speaker 3:

Yeah, so I do create apps for small or medium sized business and whatnot. But also if you have, like, an existing app or an existing product and you need help maybe upgrading that to a certain kind of solution, maybe you have some data that's on some hardware and you want to view it in the cloud. Or maybe you have some data on a spreadsheet and you need some like a, you need to see it in a dashboard or whatnot. So I help you implement that and stuff.

Speaker 2:

Okay, that's got it. That makes a lot of sense. And, gosh, I know so many of us, you know entrepreneurs do need you know, cause that's tech is so much a part of the world today, you know, and so many of us that do start our own businesses really aren't necessarily very tech savvy, so we need some assistance along the way for sure. So I'm sure there's a great need for your services. You're here to help, right?

Speaker 3:

Yeah, exactly that's what I'm here for.

Speaker 2:

Well, I'm probably your ideal client. Actually, we chatted about that at the perimeter chamber meeting as well. So can you tell us any myths or misconceptions that there may be about your industry, or about your business in particular, that you may want to clear up with our listeners?

Speaker 3:

One thing I noticed is that everyone believes that tech and IT is oh so expensive and whatnot and most of the time that most of the time is not really true. It usually depends on what kind of you know, what kind of app or what kind of website you may need, you know. So if it's like just a little content displaying thing or like a blog that you need built, that's usually pretty cheap. But if you need like a full scale solution like location tracking and health monitoring and all that stuff, that may be a little more expensive and whatnot.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, well, like you just mentioned, you know whether they need help with just like a blog on their on their page, or if they need full scale services. It's going to monitor their health and all of that. I do imagine there's a huge difference range, a broad range of cost, you know for that. So do you do the smaller scale, like if someone only wanted your services, if they needed help with just a particular you know portion of their website? You know they needed help with one small piece. Do you do consultative, like small scale jobs like that for on an as-needed basis for clients?

Speaker 3:

Yes, yes, I do. I, low-key, prefer those jobs. They're a lot easier on my mental health and stress and whatnot. So, yes, I do do those jobs.

Speaker 2:

That's great and I would imagine, like I said, as entrepreneurs, a lot of us aren't tech savvy. We go into the business we love. I love telling stories and telling stories of other business owners, have the blogs and we have these pieces that I'm not great at. So it's so nice to be able to delegate, you know, to someone who is a pro. You know that can do that in. You know, something that would take me maybe three hours of my time. You can probably knock out in five minutes.

Speaker 2:

Oh my goodness. And if more of us could learn to, to delegate, then we all. It would be good for all of our mental health.

Speaker 2:

You just said that you prefer those kind of jobs, so maybe you and I are going to end up working closely together. Might just be reaching out to you for assistance more than you care to offer. You may get sick of me, Justin. Well, so shifting gears a little bit. I know that during the pre-interview you did share with me that you and I call the same place home, Dunwoody, and so I know that you live here. But when you're not working, do you hang out here in Dunwoody, or what else do you do for fun when you're not working?

Speaker 3:

Yeah, so I like to go out with my friends to the local bars and local restaurants and whatnot. I also like to take salsa and bachata lessons over at Paso Fino Dance Studio and whatnot.

Speaker 2:

Oh, my goodness, I wasn't going to expect that from you, salsa, and that's nice, okay.

Speaker 3:

I'm also a very big traveler and whatnot I've been to I lost count, it's at least 15 countries. Last year I took about four different cruises and whatnot. The year before that I've been, or before the pandemic, I went to Costa Rica, brazil, france, italy and England and whatnot. So I'm pretty big on traveling and whatnot. I like to get out and stretch my wings.

Speaker 2:

So yeah, man, I love it. That's exciting. I'd love to travel as well. It's a really good way, I know. For me, you know, living in the city, it's really nice to get outside of you know the hustle and bustle of the city sometimes and get on you know, just feel like you really are getting away and I love that. So did you say that you went on three or four cruises just last year?

Speaker 3:

Yeah.

Speaker 2:

Wow, that's so. You really this is. You're a frequent traveler.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, as some would say.

Speaker 2:

Well, I think four cruises in a year is frequent. A quarterly cruise, I mean that can't be bad for anyone's health.

Speaker 3:

Compared to my friends, I don't think I travel that much, but you know, you run in some frequent flyer miles, I'm guessing.

Speaker 2:

Oh, my goodness Well, shifting gears again into something a little more serious. Have you faced a life challenge or hardship? I know we all face them in our lives, but have you had one in particular that you've been through, that you can now say, for having been lived through that experience and come out on the other side of it, that you're stronger or better for that today?

Speaker 3:

Yeah, so a challenge I faced was trying to graduate college. It was really challenging, considering I couldn't really pay for it. I was trying to do all these different activities, find all these different scholarships. While I was in college, I ran cross country for all four years, which is really tough. Literally, we train Monday through Thursday throughout the week, and then every Saturday morning during the fall we would get up and we had to race for five miles. So that was. That was really tough.

Speaker 1:

I also yeah yeah, yeah.

Speaker 3:

So I also did a lot of research while I was in college for the computer science department. That gave me a little bit of a stipend and a little bit of a scholarship to, you know, to get through college and stuff. I was also a first generation scholar, so I had to maintain a 3.0 GPA in order to stay in college, so that was a really big challenge for me doing all of that stuff.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, but a rewarding outcome To be able to say you did that, you maintained your, your the GPA necessary, so the scholastic part of it. And then also we're running cross country. Holy cow, are you so? Are you still a you know, a cross country athlete? I know that I mean you're probably not doing it every morning anymore as required, but is that still something that you enjoy today?

Speaker 3:

Yeah, so I do run from time to time nowhere near as much as I did in college and whatnot, but maybe every other day or so. Right now, I'm big into weightlifting and bodybuilding at the moment. So, yeah, that's my fitness routine now.

Speaker 2:

Yeah Well, I applaud you for sticking with it. Yeah Well, I applaud you for sticking with it. And I know that could not have been easy. You know I went through during my college days. You know my extracurricular activity was was partying. So, and I was I managed to keep my GPA up high enough, but my school didn't depend on that. So I can't imagine doing that while being that high level of an athlete and knowing that whether or not you stayed in school depended on your mental fortitude and strength and really, um, it really just your. Your perseverance shows a lot to your work ethic and to me, you know, to your character.

Speaker 2:

So, uh, thank you for sharing that, and I know that a lot of our listeners are going to be able to resonate with that, because a lot of people with scholarships even, you know, especially for those who aren't athletes, you know, who don't have have that, you know, as a way to help kind of get their foot in the door with a scholarship process. You know there's just a lot of people who would definitely be accepted and could go to school, but they just, you know, their grades aren't high enough to get an academic scholarship and they don't. They're not an athlete and they don't. So it's just um, I'm I'm really glad you stuck with it and that you value education. So that's uh and and and two. In today's society too, it's different than when I was in school. You know, uh, a lot of people are doing living out their you know dream and they're not. You know, school isn't a part of it anymore living out their you know dream and they're not.

Speaker 2:

you know, school isn't a part of it anymore. You know, I feel like there's not quite the the value isn't quite placed on education that it used to be. And so for you to, you know cause you're, you're a young man, you know like that to be able to stick with it, even though it was difficult and even though it was, you know, a financial hardship, you know to go through that and still value it that much.

Speaker 2:

I applaud you. I was a teacher for 19 years, so I know, see, not everyone knows that about me, but yeah, so I was a teacher for 19 years and have a high value on education. I think it's very important. Well, so, moving on again, is there anything else that you want our listeners to know about your business?

Speaker 3:

Yeah, so even if you may not believe I can help you in some way, form or fashion, if you don't think so, or you may not be able to afford it, or whatever the case may be, at least you know, go to our website, which I'll mention next, and reach out and either send me an email or see. Just see if you know I can help you out with something, whether whatever it is.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, so are you willing to do like a free phone consultation with people who reach out via your website, like you'll talk to them for free? Not necessarily guide them, but talk to them to see if it's a problem that you can help, so it doesn't cost them any money to reach out to you? So I guess, what I'm getting at.

Speaker 3:

Definitely, yeah, yeah, exactly. So just reach out and see if I can help you. I do have a website.

Speaker 2:

The website is willcybertechgithubio. I also have an email called willcybertech at gmailcom can reach out to Justin if you need any tech help, and I imagine there are lots of you that do. Thank you so much for being here, justin, it's been a pleasure.

Speaker 3:
