TDM: Total Dad Movies with Tooky, Dave, & Mike
Mike and Dave are two Gen X Dads who grew up watching movies because there was nothing else to do. Tooky is a Millennial dad-in-training who grew up with the internet, and thus never needed to watch ROAD HOUSE on cable. Mike (a standup comedian) and Dave (an improviser and occasional academic) will present Tooky (comedian, social critic and dad-in-training) with a new (old) movie every week and answer the important questions: Are white people ok? When did Nic Cage become a whole thing? Are these movies good, or are Mike and Dave wallowing in toxic nostalgia? Every Tuesday, TDM promises to bridge the generation gap, one dad movie at a time.
Intro/outro music: "It's Almost Late Night" from the album WE HAD A GOOD RUN by Dave Rabinow, available at www.daverabinow.com

THE MUPPET MOVIE
Kermit the Frog and Fozzie Bear are the yin/yang of Dad Energy.
Kermit: Moral. Respected. The clear leader. Perhaps a tad dorky, but effective. If you saw Kermit wearing cargo pants, you would not be surprised. A collaborator, but with a vision. He is what all Dads aspire to be.
Fozzie: Relentlessly mocked, justifiably so. His laughs come from pity, not amusement. He panics when given responsibility. He drives, but poorly. He is simultaneously vestigial and functionary. He is what all Dads, upon reflection, know themselves to be.
The cameos. The songs. The bicycles. The metatheatricality. It's all aged just like you hope your Dad has: sure, you can see the seams, but damn if this isn't the movie you can't wait to see every few months when he's here to visit the grandkids. Enjoy Jim Frawley's foray into the Hensoniverse, 1979's THE MUPPET MOVIE.
