Q&A Discussion

Speaker 1

I got up this morning and I didn't even realize what I was doing, but I just started eating grapes, so my whole breakfast was grapes. And then I realized oh, that makes sense, we're going to do this podcast today.

Speaker 2

I have a nice bottle of my First Crush Blush chilling right now. And I'm going to open it and we'll share a bottle, Cindy. I'll have our head waiter bring it out to us. Yeah, share a bottle, Cindy. I'll have our head waiter bring it out to us. Yeah, and we could read you an A talk more about my first crush and just have a nice day. Everybody, get down, get with it. The rule Everybody get down.

Speaker 3

That's the rule. Welcome to the Shawn Squad Society Podcast with your hosts myself, cindy, doris Day Madonna when we invite you to share in our enthusiasm and reminisce about all things Shawn Cassidy.

Speaker 2

From his teen idol days to his recent adventures back on the road again.

Speaker 4

Please join us for the stories and memories that connected us to those happy days that helped create the Sean Squad Society podcast.

Speaker 2

Cindy and I, by the way, are outside today. We're at Borton Studios, but we decided that we would come outside and sit out and enjoy nature and record today A cute little gazebo and we're going to taste some wine and do a podcast A little different than our regular format for you listeners.

Speaker 2

We thought it would be fun to just share the answers that were coming up with Sean and sit outside, share some wine and just have a girl's day and enjoy it with you guys. It's a nice summer day. I'm looking at Sean's Q&A today.

Speaker 3

Yeah, sean's doing a Q&A today.

Speaker 2

I'm looking here and I'm looking for some good questions and answers. So far, I only see one answer. Well, I see a good question. Oh, I see two answers. Now, what did you see? Oh, dame, I see your question, there's a good one.

Speaker 1

When is the next time that they meet together at a vineyard? I know I don't drink alcohol, but I want to be there. I want him to have a great fusion.

Speaker 2

Oh, I heard they're going to have some other places they're going to go, but we don't know it. Yeah, exactly yeah, I bet you he's going to address that here at the Q&A. I just I just found a kind of interesting question oh, what did you find? She says Hello from New York. Number one what did you like doing more singing or writing music? Number two what new shows should we be anticipating for the fall premiere season? Oh, yeah.

Speaker 2

So Sean said I love both writing and singing. One keeps me home more than the other, and I am a homebody. So guess which one keeps him home more than the other, and I am a homebody. So guess which one keeps them home more? Yes, the writing. He said there really is no traditional fall season like there was when we were kids, because show premiere all year long, and they do. They come on in the spring, the summer, whenever, and on streaming on a network, so the shows kind of appear when they're ready. It's a long slog to the finish line. But he didn't answer the question what can we anticipate? Yeah, he just explained how seasons happen. Oh, so he didn't say I'm not having any shows, but he didn't say he is having any. I found another question from Sean. Someone asked what is his favorite childhood Christmas memory and he said when my dad dressed up like Santa Claus, that's a nice memory.

Speaker 1

That's precious. You know what Drees? I heard him answer that question differently another time. Somebody asked something similar and he said that his good memories are around Christmas time, when they all sit around the piano and hear songs and sing together. Oh okay, that's nice During that time. That would be so much fun. Talk about good Sean energy. Yes.

Speaker 3

Yeah, I'm kind of scrolling too, because there's so many already.

Speaker 2

I'm looking for the ones with answers.

Speaker 3

Oh, that's a nice one, and Sean usually likes to have new questions. He's he, you know, has answered many questions multiple times, so he likes to find those questions that nobody's asked before. You know something new.

Speaker 2

Yeah, like this one about what you do to Max Singer. And he said no, not my thing, I only wear animal costumes around the house. Lol, dame, I have a question for you. Didn't you have a little something you wanted to talk about about the wine event, the Mother's Day wine event?

Speaker 1

Yes, I sure do. I just thought it looked amazing. Was it at his home? Is that where the vineyard was near? Is that where it was?

Speaker 3

Oh yeah, oh yeah In the wine country there, yeah.

Speaker 1

That's why he was so comfortable. He was home and Tracy was right there and they just were in their happy place.

Speaker 2

It was his backyard.

Speaker 3

So yeah, so back on Mother's.

Speaker 2

Day, Sean had a wine tasting at the vineyard and it was a special Mother's Day wine tasting event where he invited members of the my First Crush Rhyme Club to come and it was really intimate, up close and personal Q&A with Sean and Tasty. It was awesome.

Speaker 1

One of my friends. She was fortunate to be a guest and during this time I saw that she had toys that he signed. You know how fortunate they were to be there. So I just think that's really neat. He didn't mention when he would do something like this again. But I saw a different side to Sean where he wasn't nervous, he wasn't stressed about, you know, talking to his fans and he had, you know, tracy there there with him and they just looked so happy, even with the fans, and the girls were out there sitting at tables with their pretty dresses and their floppy hats and it just looked like a dream.

Speaker 2

Yeah, it was so. It looked like it was just a relaxed, very mellow event and everybody was just there on the afternoon enjoying the day. And it did. It looked beautiful, it looked so lovely.

Speaker 3

Yeah, I got that impression too, that they all enjoyed just having that small group.

Speaker 1

Yes, Well, I saw the happiness even in his face during this time. He was impressed with what his friend Steve had come up with and he loved sharing the stories. And the girls had questions and he was comfortable answering them.

Speaker 2

It was certainly an event that we all will have an opportunity to experience. I'm very sure of it.

Speaker 3

And I don't mind seeing Sean in a different setting, a different way, not just singing. But this wine thing is fun too. Yeah, it's more relaxed.

Speaker 2

I would love that. It's very inviting. That is such a beautiful, lovely way to spend an afternoon with.

Speaker 3

Sean, oh, I would love to go to that if it came to our town or somewhere close.

Speaker 1

Girls. Yeah, he kind of turned this around. It was Mother's Day, you you know, and it was all about uh called my first crush, so it was about the girls and their first crush and sean. But he turned it around because it was about mother's day and he started telling stories about his mom instead. And I just thought that was precious, that he really made that a special mother's day weekend and included stories about his mom.

Speaker 3

That was nice. That was very nice. Okay, I found another question. Somebody posted that, sean replied to.

Speaker 3

Yeah. And it says Were you considered a good writer in school and did you discover that talent when you got older and wiser? And he said I did well in English when I applied myself, but I wasn't thinking about becoming a writer then. Only when I started acting in television and theater, I got introduced to writers and the process did I get swept away by it? Okay, that's how he wrote it. Wow. So he didn't really realize his profession until he got into acting.

Speaker 2

That's kind of cool to know that it wasn't like a lifelong dream.

Speaker 3

Right, yeah, like was he a writer in school. I have some friends who were writers in school and now they write things for papers Right.

Speaker 1

And, being a teacher myself, you notice that in your students when they're young and they take off with it, especially when you tell them that you notice how gifted and talented they are.

Speaker 2

Yep, here's a very good question. Someone asked happy Father's Day, sean, wishing you much joy with your family. Any updates on the myriad upcoming projects you were working on looking into, in particular, wondering about a Broadway something or another that you hinted you were looking into? Would love to know more. Sean wrote a Broadway show is one of the things in the works, but everything takes time. Fortunately, I love process as much or maybe even more than result. So we'll see where we land.

Speaker 1

Well, when I talked to Sean about that before, he said that it costs a lot to run a Broadway show, so I thought he was, you know, gearing away from that. But I sure hope he goes back. A question that was answered here and it says hi, sean, I saw you in Portland, maine. My husband was the one who stood up in the third row when you asked how many of you men were dragged here tonight. And then sean asked well, did he have fun or was he getting up to leave? Sean is funny. His comments are funny too.

Speaker 3

So here I got a funny one. This person says did you catch the sean cassidy you mentioned on the today show yesterday? They were talking about 70s hair and I did catch that one. It was kind of funny. They were talking about the top dads for Father's Day, and I think he was trying to find a Michael Landon wig, but all he could find well close enough was like a David Cassidy wig. Yeah, but he said Sean Cassidy wig. Yeah, but he said Sean Cassidy instead. But I think it was really a David Cassidy type wig from the 70s. But Sean replied and said someone did send him a clip of it, but he's not sure. Carson Daly's brown map was really my style though, but I think they were referring to David Cassidy, I do believe so. It was funny though, but they said his name and there it was it was funny.

Celebrity Connections and Creative Process

Speaker 1

yeah, no, it just says right here someone asked a question that made me think of you, doreese, because they asked him if he would consider doing a tour and coming close to North Carolina and he said yep. He said he loved it there. He lived in North Carolina for a while when he wrote one of your favorite shows, doreese.

Speaker 2

He was in North Carolina, I think, when he was doing American Gothic.

Speaker 3

You know, sean mentioned that at the winery. I was watching the video that Sean mentioned something about American Gothic, like a spinoff of it or something. Oh, it was somebody who was asking him a question and he mentioned American Gothic that could be a spinoff. And he also mentioned at that winery uh, get together that he was thinking of rebooting Hardy Boys, but in a different way, and Sean would play the father well, you know there has.

Speaker 2

There have been recent reboots. Remember I was showing you there was, uh, another reboot of Hardy Boys, not three or four years ago, and it was streaming on one of the streaming networks, so that would be very cool that really would be.

Speaker 2

You know what's kind of I like these questions. I love when people ask like about his taste and his likes and someone asks do you like Springsteen? People ask like about his taste and his likes and someone asked do you like Springsteen and have you been to one of his concerts? Springsteen, he's been around forever and everybody loves going to see Bruce and they would love. Everybody just thinks going to a Springsteen show is a great opportunity and I lost the answer here. So yeah, I can't answer if he likes Spring.

Speaker 1

Well, you know what he told me, darius, let me say this while you're looking I asked him this question in writing, but I asked him what his favorite group was and he said the Beatles. Yeah, they're great, I agree. Yeah, he said that was his favorite band.

Speaker 3

All right, do you like Springsteen? Have you ever been to one of his concerts? What did he say?

Speaker 2

That's the one I lost.

Speaker 3

He says he loves Bruce, seen him multiple times, even played in the softball league with him for a while. That's pretty cool to know. That's pretty good to know.

Speaker 2

See, that's a fun fact. I didn't know that.

Speaker 3

Fun fact Sean knows Bruce Springsteen and played softball with him, and it's funny because the girl at work I hang out with her teen idol is Bruce Springsteen.

Speaker 2

So we talk about Bruce and Sean you would never expect them, those two, to be together, because Bruce is so East Coast, right, right, and Sean is so West Coast, so for them to have even been in the same orbit, it's almost like, really, how did that happen? Yeah, yeah, but they did. Yeah, it was so that is so cool.

Speaker 3

Wow, derise has a smile on her face about something. What popped out. Is it a breaking news?

Speaker 2

so it was a breaking news. This lady asked hey, sean, we are all here waiting for you to sing. So like he would play something for us he would have had it recorded. He said true story. I sat down at the piano and recorded something to share with you all today, but I couldn't figure out how to post the recording. He's not technically savvy enough. I've done this before so I know it can work, but something went south.

Speaker 1

I'll figure it out for the next time he needs to go get his kids to help him with the social media and the posting and the live and all that.

Speaker 3

Wow, he says he works Get my sons when I need you. That would have been so cool. This person asked him. He often posts pictures of nature. How much influence does being outside have on your creative process? And he said that's very important to him. He walks at least five miles a day and this is a form of meditation for him. It's also where my ideas germinate from.

Speaker 2

Well see, now we get to figure out how Sean's creative process works. He goes on a walk, he goes on a little nature walk, he gets in touch.

Speaker 1

Yeah, he's got a lot of animals too, and so you can tell he loves nature, and so does Tracy.

Speaker 2

Which is good, because we all need to take a little time, as they say, to smell the roses.

Speaker 1

Get outside enjoy nature, and since I don't drink wine, I can just enjoy nature too. I can hear the birds.

Speaker 3

Yes, isn't that?

Speaker 1

beautiful, and I'll go get some grapes too, and then I'll hope Sean will answer that question of whether he'll make a Shirley's crush or not and then make it so it's non-alcoholic.

Speaker 3

Here's another question. I like this one. Have you ever worked with Andy Gibb?

Speaker 2

That's a great question. Yeah, now we know they were. I think they were on stage together for a couple of things. Award shows and stuff like that.

Speaker 3

Yeah, there's a picture of him with the Bee Gees Brothers and stuff like that. So he says that we did a show together many moons ago at Boston Garden I think. More of an appearance really for a local radio station, but I know he was at the award shows with them too. Right, because there are pictures?

Summer Songs and Travel Dreams

Speaker 2

That's a good question, and Andy Gibb was my first concert and I love Andy Gibb, so that really does make me feel good.

Speaker 3

And I won tickets to Andy Gibb in high school. I kind of felt like I was cheating on Sean a little bit, but I won these tickets on the radio to see Andy Gibb so I went with. The Alessi brothers were opening for him, so Alessi opened for Andy Gibb. Yeah, and then Andy comes out in this red outfit and his hairy chest sticking out. I was like whoa, you know I was a teenager. I'm like, oh, that's a different look.

Speaker 1

No, I didn't see him, but my cousin has a picture with him.

Speaker 3

Oh, that's right, that's pretty cool.

Speaker 2

Yeah, we spoke about that before that was cool You're not really cheating, cindy because we all had many. We had our favorite, you know the one that was just the guy which was Sean, and then we had others, and Andy was definitely one of my others. Yeah.

Speaker 3

I liked him, but I didn't have pictures on my wall. I felt I was a one-man woman, mine were pretty much all Sean too.

Speaker 1

Even to this day, that's what I have on my wall.

Speaker 2

Listen to this, you guys. Someone asked what car do you drive? That's a good question. And he said I don't own a car anymore. I don't own a car anymore. We have a few old trucks that are mostly used by Tracy and the kids. Oh, okay, so I take whatever's available in the driveway. Funny, I know, but since I stopped commuting to LA I haven't really needed a car. Really Okay, so that's pretty cool. You know he's not buying cars just for the sake of buying them and they just tool around in their old trucks and that's that, yeah, All right.

Speaker 3

He's saying now that Caleb's kicking butt in college, he's got straight A's. Oh, that's so cool. Go, Caleb. So Caleb's doing good, Caleb's doing good. And somebody also asked are you planning any concerts this year? But I don't. You know he mentioned this before. He's not going to do that this year. He said nope, too much on my plate writing and producing. I believe he has a contract he has to fulfill with the studio, you know, with his writing. So I believe this year is kind of dedicated to that and hopefully next year we'll see him do something.

Speaker 2

That'll be good because he'll have time to write a new show and that would be great to see a new concert. Yep, can't wait. Well, dane, did you put on the Q&A Sean? I really would love to have a non-alcoholic sparkling type beverage.

Speaker 3

I did say something like that I wish he'd come up with some kind of Moscato. I like Moscato. I like a sparkling sweet wine. I wish, yeah, if he could come up with something Moscato-ish.

Speaker 2

Well, I'm going to get our wine and let's try this. I think you're going to like it. It's a blush, oh my. We just opened a bottle of the my First Crush Wine Blush, and Dame has her grapes and cheese, so I think we should say a quick toast. Here's to a marvelous summer. And how good this wine is and how great Dame's cheese and grapes are.

Speaker 3

Oh yeah, yeah, I love my grapes.

Speaker 2

This wine is so good we're doing my first crushed wine, cheers, cheers, all right, and it is delicious.

Speaker 1

Yes, girls, on the back it has a neat label too, doesn't it? Because I have a picture of it and it shows that it goes with no Kid Hungry Right.

Speaker 2

Right. Some of the proceeds Two dollars of every bottle sold of my First Crush Wine goes to the no Kid Hungry initiative that Sean and the Steve Clifton support.

Speaker 1

Oh no, oh no, he just put a thumbs up on mine. He did oh, that's allton support. Oh no, oh no, he just put. Oh, he just put a thumbs up on mine. He did oh, that's all I got. Oh, oh no, cindy, yeah, he didn't just put a thumbs up on yours. Oh, he wrote you a paragraph. What he did?

Speaker 3

Oh, yes, what was my question again.

Speaker 1

Well, your question says hey, Sean, I was just wondering what your plans are for next year. I know you said that you had some ideas, but what are you going to do? And so would I would love to hear your ideas and plans. But, cindy, we all want to hear that. So that was a great question. And he answered you. He said, cindy Lynn heard the expression. Have you ever heard the? The expression God laughs at our plans because he already knows what's going to happen, but Sean just goes with it. He said I have some great ideas about what I might be doing he emphasized might but I have so many things in the works, so many horses in the race, as it were, and you never know, cindy, which horse is going to come in. So that's kind of the way things have been for me all of my life and my career, and I'm okay with it, but it definitely keeps me nimble, as you know.

Speaker 3

nimble, yes, what he said I think he might've meant humble- Okay, I was just trying to read correctly.

Speaker 1

No, you read what he wrote. He said nimble. As you know, I never thought I'd tour again and then suddenly I was out on stage from 2020 to 2024, singing, and who knew? And here we were out there too, but I thought he started in 2019. And I missed 2019.

Speaker 3

I think so because it was before COVID.

Speaker 2

Yeah, he did do that winery in California in 2019.

Speaker 3

Yeah, he did, but that's so cool. I'm glad he replied, but I was hoping he'd say he's going to go out on tour next year. All we can do is stay tuned as they say you never know hey.

Speaker 2

I see one from our fellow Sean's sister from the Sean Cassidy Fan Convention. Yeah, janet wrote. Every time you do a Q&A I always get excited and say ooh, ooh, what am I going to ask? And then I can never think of a question. You know something you haven't already been asked? How about this? Do you think you will ever visit Parker, or vice versa, and take an updated picture with him? That would be so cool. Update a picture with him, that would be so cool. Also, I want to thank you so much for signing those items for us at the Mother's Day Wine Tasting, you're bringing good proceeds for no Kid Hungry and the Sean Sister Weekend. Zoom is on the table if you're so inclined. And lastly, have a fantastic Father's Day Cute. Sean answered hi, janet said. Next time I see Parker we'll take a picture together and share it with you all, if he doesn't look too handsome.

Speaker 3

That's funny. Yeah, that's cute. Here's another question. So if you're in the car alone and no one is looking, what song are you blasting that you're singing to? So Sean says A White Shade of Pale or Thunder Road.

Speaker 2

The White Shade of Pale. That is such a good song. Who sings that?

Speaker 3

Is it a band?

Speaker 2

The White Shade of.

Speaker 3

Pale. I don't remember, I don't know, but Thunder Road, no, weird but Nope. Those are both great songs, weird duo, but I guess that's what he likes and so it was later.

Speaker 4

As the mill's tail. Let her face at first just go steep, Turn the white earth Shade off and oh thunder, oh slither, Take off, thunder on.

Speaker 2

So that's funny that someone asked that, because on our Sean Squad Society Facebook page I put up a little post about summer songs and how you could blast your radio and sing to them. And this week's summer song sing-along hey, that's the title of my next actual post, the summer song sing-along. But this week was David Cassidy and the Partridge family and I put up two summer songs Sunshine and Summer Days. So you guys check out the Shaw Squad Society Facebook page and sing along like nobody's watching. I love it. Why? The Shade of Pale is a song by Procol Harum, but I remember the remake of it. I don't remember that song. If you heard the remake of it you would know exactly who it is.

Speaker 3

We'll have to look that one up.

Speaker 2

Annie Lennox did the remake of Whiter Shade of Pale Annie Lennox from the Eurythmics oh really.

Speaker 3

Yes, it was a pretty big hit, interesting. Okay, here's another question. Where's one place you have always wanted to visit but you haven't, and that is Greece. Oh, he wants to go to Greece. I didn't know, he liked Greece. He wanted to go to Greece. Now we know. Oh, it's beautiful.

Speaker 2

Yeah, you know, with the water and everything. Yeah, he likes that.

Speaker 1

The beautiful nature outside.

Speaker 3

Any other? Very interesting. What's your favorite meal? Italian or Japanese? I could go for that. Yeah, I agree with that. I love Italian and I always go for the Oriental food. Yes, but remember, a few years ago he posted a question If you invited me to dinner, what would you serve me? So people were putting up their ideas and I think he yeah, well, I don't think he picked steak dinner. I forgot what he picked. So he likes to cook. No, he wants to come to your house and have dinner.

Speaker 1

You're gonna cook he doesn't want to come to my house and have dinner. I can make him some enchiladas, I guess.

Speaker 3

I think he said he cooks, but it's not. You know, he can cook, but not like I'm sure.

Speaker 2

Well, his wife must be a good cook. He used to post a little bit in the day about his outside grilling attempts and how he would be out making burgers or whatever on the grill. So he throws his. He puts something in the hat once in a while.

Speaker 1

Yeah, he said that he was going to barbecue tonight, so I don't know if it's him going. I think he will be the one barbecuing.

Family, Theater, and Career Highlights

Speaker 2

Yeah, he probably will. Usually, the guy wants to be the grill master. Yeah, exactly.

Speaker 1

Well, here's another one, and he actually answered it. Oh, which one's that? Oh, he's just saying thank you for coming out to see us. I think this person just said that they saw him last year in New Jersey and it was awesome, and this person took her team to go with her.

Speaker 3

And here's a question. It says what was the most memorable, memorable, memorable moment of your career? He said it's too many to count. The most important in terms of my overall career trajectory was creating American Gothic.

Speaker 2

Wow, there you go. I'm telling you guys yeah, that show has a big following. Yeah, and there's a lot to be said and I think for an upcoming episode of the Sean Squad Society podcast, we should probably focus on one episode.

Speaker 3

That would be great, because he said this opened the door to the 30 year writing career. This was his first writing attempt, I guess, and he, he came out swinging hard, yeah. And he said and maybe writing my recent live show as well, returning to touring, has been incredibly gratifying. He says, but he doesn't but he doesn't give any more info after that?

Speaker 1

He needs to write his own book.

Speaker 3

I think he will eventually write a book. You know, but he wanted to make this a tour to go see people, but I think eventually he'll sit down and write.

Speaker 1

Yeah, he likes to write.

Speaker 2

We'll see. We've had a bunch of very good questions and answers here on this very special episode of the Sean Squad Society podcast where we're just kind of going live reading Q&A and, yeah, this is fun sharing with our listeners. In case some of the listeners didn't get to attend the Q&A or they missed it for some reason. Now we can share some of Sean's answers to some very good questions that a lot of listeners have?

Speaker 3

Yeah, because you know there's a lot of questions on here, so sometimes you can't get through all of them, so what?

Speaker 1

does he mean by this one? Someone asked him when you were acting what was your favorite medium TV stage or movies. He just said stage, by a wide margin.

Speaker 3

I think he likes a live audience.

Speaker 2

He loves theater. Sean comes from a theater family Shirley and Jack were theater people and he just loves theater. And what he's saying is it's a runaway Like by far it's theater. But you know, I never produced a Broadway show but I watched a TV show about the production of a Broadway production and that's why you get these producers and these backers and stuff. It is a big deal. You don't just go out and write a theater production and it's next thing you know it's out there. It's a big deal to get it going. I see a good question here. Favorite movie the Godfathers part one and two.

Speaker 3

I'm kind of surprised by that because, just being a family man he is, I'm kind of surprised he liked the Godfather how many times do I have to say this?

Speaker 2

The dark side of Sean.

Speaker 3

Yes, yes, there certainly is. I'm still looking at these questions too, but I mean, basically, we covered a lot of the good ones, yeah.

Speaker 2

Here's a very appropriate question, aloha, from Northern California, having a large family of your own, what are your challenges of managing work and family life and continue to give your all to both? And he said, the biggest thing I try to do is balance both every day and, perhaps more importantly, take the time to have one-on-one experiences with each child individually, since it's easy to fall into treating them as one, which, of course, they're not.

Speaker 3

Yeah, that's a good one. That's a very good answer and question. Yeah, and to piggyback on that one, here's another question what is your most rewarding moment? As a father? And he said witnessing my kids making good choices without any guidance from me. That's like a wow. All these years when I didn't think they were listening, Maybe they were so gratifying.

Speaker 1

You know, you girls were just saying something about things he did with his children, spending time with each one of his children. Yeah Well, there was this question on there. It says as a child, did you have a favorite board game? Well, he brought up gravel. And guess who? He plays that with? Who does he play? He plays it. He plays it with his youngest daughter. But he said she beats him every time. Oh she's a wordsmith.

Speaker 2

That's funny. Here's one more Speaking of being a dad.

Speaker 3

Yeah.

Speaker 2
