1.Intro DDK, Kim Tae Woo, Jae Chong

Hey, everybody. This is Daniel Day Kim. You're listening to PK. Hi. This is Gim TEU. Please listen to PK. This is Jay Chong, the music producer, a member of the group Solid Solid. And you're listening to chat GPK 2s

2.  Bow Down when I come to your town.

what is up, Ana Zeo? This is episode three. Your brother PK. And I want to thank Daniel Day, Kim kim TEWU and Jay Chong for those shoutouts. I'm going to talk about them a little later, but first, I just want to share the reason why I say any Haseo in the beginning of each podcast is because I can't count the number of times I've told people I'm Korean. Thousand times. And then they go, You're Korean? Anyong hasel? And they usually pronounce it wrong, but whatever, as long as they're respectful, it's actually cool. They learned it. And so many people know the word anya has it's. It's a trip. And you know, as long as they're cool about it, it kind of starts a conversation. Oh, you've been to Korea? Oh, cool. Whatever. Once in a while, they're a little weird about it. They're like, oh, you're Korean per. Gogi chop. Chat Kimchi. Like, they just throw out every Korean word, and then you're just standing there. 2s It's like, Where are you from? They're like, Germany. What, are you supposed to even it out? Folks like, it perfect to get leadership. I don't know. I don't know what to do. But as long as they're cool about it, sometimes it starts a conversation. So anya has a if you're not Korean, it's just our formal way of saying hello. Any is the informal way to someone your age or younger. But whenever it's someone older. 1s It's. Anyang has a yo. And that's one thing I love about Korean culture. A lot of cultures. It's built into the language to show respect for elders, you know, even bowing. You know, I I've seen Korean gangster guys. They're arguing and with each other, and they're like, what the fuck? What the fuck did that guy say about me? I'll fuck him up. And then a grandma walks by, and they bow, oh, Anya's. Then they kill it. I'll go, church. Don't worry. And then they're telling their friends, hey, put your joint away. Oh, yeah. So it's built into the language. It's a beautiful culture. That part of it. When you pour for someone older, you don't just pour, like, nonchalant. You use both hands. 2s And some people don't like that. I like that, you know, well, maybe because I'm older now, people show respect to me. I always show respect.

3.  Jae Chong Hyung

I would show respect to my youngs J chong, the legendary producer, singer, writer of the group solid. If you don't know solid, you could look them up in the 90s. They were huge. They're from Korean American and three guys. They legends. They, you know, a lot of Kpop stars, usually back then, born in Korea, they. 1s Were one of the first to come from America, and they brought a different flavor, like the R and B and, you know, the hip hop from America mixed with the Kpop and, you know, other types of music, too. But it's just it really it made me feel proud. I just remember the end of my freshman year going to Korea. There's a program called the Yunset program. There's a lot of summer programs. This is the most famous and infamous program. Five week program. KLI Korean Language Institute where you're supposed to learn Korean, but you learn a lot about Korean culture. You learn Korean from 08:00 A.m. To twelve noon, and then from twelve noon to twelve midnight, it's party time. Some of the best times of my life. Everyone I know that went there says the same. I'm still friends with some of them today. Shout out to 95 young to Ma'am. Yes, that's how old I am. But 2s a lot of people didn't graduate. I graduated. I went to my classes. I even tutored to support my partying. I put flyers all over Yunta and did English tutoring, the way you rip the number off. And I tutored people conversational English because I don't know where these people so much money, man. It costs a lot of money to party. And I'm not exaggerating. Five week Program I think the only days we took off was Sunday. And we hung out and had fun every day, every night. The thing is, my parents sent me there. 2s It's to learn Korean. And my Korean is awful. It's like very, you know, C minus. And a lot of the Korean Americans, and not only Korean Americans, are Koreans from Canada. 1s Like, all over Europe, koreans from the desert. The desert Korean Dubai. There's Koreans from Australia, there's Koreans from all over the world together. And you take a test at the beginning. I was the second to highest class. That's how bad these Koreans were. They were starting off fresh, some of them. 3s They were like ABCDE. They were straight up like 1s the way the pronunciation, too, was just like Tom Il Gong. They were straight up beginning. But one thing that bonded us is we didn't grow up in the motherland. And we were really learning our roots and in it. Like, we were in it, every part of it, the culture of it all. Conversations with the cab drivers, getting yelled by the cab drivers for whistling. One time I whistled. The cab driver in Korea was like, you don't do that. Bad luck and ghosts will come. I'm like, oh, sorry. 2s And then every cab driver is like, 2s a Korean person should know Korean. And they always give you this little cultural philosophical lecture. Korea has changed a lot since then. But 95 ma'am, we went out a lot to Kangnam style. We went to Kangnam and Shin and Hong Dai like. 1s It was hype and it was the glory days. And solid was huge. 1s They had their hit songs all on the charts. The songs were great. And there was this one spot called Deep House. I remember they performed live. It was packed. We had to get there early. It was packed. And this girl next to me, remember, she was like throwing clothes at them, like taking off scrunchies. I think she might have took off her nylon. She was just like, women going to get caught up when they're freaking out over their favorite male performer. They started throwing clothes at them. 1s And I love their songs. I love that whole album. I love that first. I love all their songs, too. Singing at karaoke all the time. And then it was hype. We had a great time. Jay Young, 1s he was the main producer of the group. He formed another group called Asiatics, and they all did well. They're all doing well solo now. And he asked me to MC one of their concerts. I didn't even know he knew me, but I was honored. And then later on in clubhouse, the app, we had a lot of conversations and 1s I was just tripping out like that he even knew me. So thank you, Jay Hung, that you even gave me that opening 1s sound bite and appreciate you. 1s He's a legend, true legend.

4. Kim Tae Woo

I also want to thank Kinto. I saw him recently. He performed. He was part of the legendary group Go d groove Overdose, and he was the youngest member of the group. And he always showed respect. He's way taller than me and bigger than Bay. I'm a few years older. And he'd always be like, oh, 3s I thought he was older. So when he bowed to me, I was tripping. I was like, oh, wait, I'm your hill. You always trip out. Koreans always have to figure out, too, like, who's older? And they never say age too. They always say like, oh, yeah? 1s How old are they? And then they do like, oh, 1988. And you're like, wait, I have to do math. Kuman math in my head. Kinteu, he has a solo career now. He's married, he's three kids. I was like, you have three kids, too. I was tripping out. But he was always cool. I remember when Yvonne Lou and I, we had a show on Mnet. He was a guest and we did a feature at Venice Beach. We hung out, played some ball, shot some videos, and for Yvonne's birthday, we went out. And he was always making sure that. People showed me respect and that I was like, oh, young, are you comfortable? And then I read an article way later at the green Room of a concert. There was like, a legendary singer. You could probably Google this and like, an older young, like an older guy singer, he came into the room, or he went into his dressing room, and then none of the younger singers went to acknowledged him or said, what's up? Kinto Scolded? All of them like, what do you you guys aren't going to go inside, like, say, pay your respect, like, say, what's up? And when I read that, I'm like, I I just smile. I'm like, yep, that's him. That's how I know him. And he's just cool guy. Great voice, too, man, he killed it.

5.  Daniel Dae Kim

And Daniel day. Kim the man. Man, he's an A list celebrity, I think in Hollywood overall. I don't know who grades these things, but definitely in the Asian American community and the Asian community. He's A plus and I'm C minus d plus. Barely hanging on to C minus. I'll explain. We went to Grub once, and Daniel Day Kim treated us there's four of us to late night soul food. Korean food 02:00 a.m this place called Cocobang in San Francisco. And he treated us, and we just had the best time we could. Conversation. I'm tripping out too. That Daniel Day Kendalls. Man, we're just eating like that late at night, and everybody you could just see people just staring at him, and they take a picture with you. And Daniel's so respectful, and he was the main speaker at this gala in San Francisco, and all these people want to take a picture with him. I know. So many celebrities are like, nah, he took pictures with everyone. Everyone they want to take a picture. I somehow became the photographer, but I did it, and I was tripping out. A lot of these married women, too, man, it. I can see they were there talking to talking to him, shaking his hand, not letting go of his hand for a long time, just staring into his face, kind of like tripping out and like, telling him, like, you remember me from seven years ago? I met you. He doesn't remember you, lady. There's a long line. Let's keep it moving here. But Dan, he's just such a cool guy. So respectful. He's always been like that. He's come to a few of my comedy shows too. He's come with Johann from Lincoln Park. He comes to support he's supported collaboration. 1s He spoke to Congress on behalf of Asian Americans and stopped Asian hate. He stood up for Asians when he was on Hawaii 50 and they paid him a grace less than the other white actors for no reason other than, I don't know, racism. Could it be? And he stood up to them and then they just bounced. I so much respect for him. After he did that, he came in with Shane Yoon, my brother. Shane Yoon Actor hilarious actor comedian. They came in to drink and then I was just fanboying to Daniel, but I was mostly, like, young. I respect you so much for doing that and standing up for us 1s and for just coming to hang out at Cafe Blue, because a lot of A listers don't do that. Just come hang out, shout out to Aquafina. She does that too. She just comes and hangs out. Mainly because dump out. It. But grateful that we have someone like him. First time I met him was at this Corey, used to be called Corey M. Now it's character. They have an annual gala at the end of the year. It was a Park Plaza in Koreatown. And I went to the bathroom and I was taking a leak. And then I look over and I was Daniel Day Kim. And I was like, whoa. And. Although daddy kiddie. Hey then don't worry. I wash my hands. Not like some of these dirty men I see that's walk. So wash your hands. Some of these men just pick a piss and just walk out even after COVID you dirty motherfathers.

6.  C- Celebrity

Here's another example of why I'm a C minus celebrity is I remember a while back drinking with Dumbfounded, 1s one of the best rappers in the world. So talented. He's disgusting. He has a Fun with Dumb podcast. Great actor, comedian, host. Seriously, if he knew how to break dance, I would punch him in the face too. Talented them. But we were drinking one time, it was just us too. And literally just all these people, mostly girls fangirling over them and then handing me their phone. Can you take a picture of me and dumbfounded it? And then just a line and I'm like next. Can you take a picture of me dumbfound it? I'm like next. Like for 20 minutes. 2s Can you take a picture of me and dumbfound it? Yes. And then they hand me the phone. Can you take it again? I don't look like that. Yes, you look like that. This is machine that takes digital images of whatever's in front of it. That's what you look like. Go use a filter. 1s Next. 1s Can you take a picture of me? A dumbfound it? Oh, I remember you. Oh, you do? Yeah. Collaboration. Oh, you went no, my mom went 3s mold, so yeah. But cool thing about being C minus celebrity is I know a lot of A listers and 1s all respect to them because it's not all roses, just people just staring at you and gawking at you and always wanting a picture with you. It's too much, man. 1s I just want to make money for my family, man.

7.  Word of The Day:  Bet

Today's word of the day is bet. Bet. You might only know the gambling meaning bet, but the cool, meaning the eat hip hop version is an alternative way to say I okay. Should we have lunch at 05:00? P.m.. Bet. That's a commonly used term to mean that you're down to do something in the urban dictionary. Says it is overused by white guy. 1s And Asian guys, they want to go to Coachella Bet. So, you know, it came out like the earliest intro was like 2005, so I thought it was like reason no, 2005.

8.  Stand Up Comedy Bit of the Day:  Fahim Anwar: Dancing Emoji

Today's standup bit of the day comes from one of the best comedians in the world. I think he's top ten ma'am and I consider him a friend. You know, we're not tight, but it once again we've hung out. Follows me on IG. We've done shows together. All respect. Oh. Also 2s the first Friday of June at 745 at Laugh Factory, hollywood. He's going to be on that show with Dumbfounded and myself, Fahim Anwar. He is one of the funniest guys in the world. One of the most underrated comedians in the world. Check out his special online on YouTube. And 2s he has so many good I get hundreds. But the first time I saw for him, I knew he was going to be I told him this. I'm like, dude, you're one of the funniest, you're one of the best. But he's just so intelligent. Also knows how to be goofy. 1s And he gave up a career as an engineer to pursue comedy and so much discipline and work ethic. Mad respect to fame all the way up, brother. But he has been bit on. Like how guys have such single guys when you're trying to day up. Such a small room for error. Like, just such a small room for error. When you're texting a girl, they can get turned off by anything, especially if it's a hot girl. They have so many guys chasing after them. One wrong text can put you in the friend zone or just throw you off one exclamation point or emoji. 2s You put a dancing emoji too early. The guy dancing emoji, he's like doing the staying alive, one finger in the air and then she never replies back. 2s Years later, she's married with kids and you're in her pocket. 2s With the dancing emoji in her pocket. That's the last thing you say. You're in her phone in her pocket for the rest of her life. The last communication was you sending a dance. The man dancing emoji to her. She never text back. 1s Check out Fahim Anwar Ma'am. He's 1s so good. I do want to share that. I know. 1s

9.  The Seven Daniel Kims I know

Seven Daniel Kim's. I counted, including Daniel Day Kim. Daniel Kim. And we call him Daniel Kim and Young because he was at our church, he spelled his name with K-I-M. Him and his older sister Esther Kim. And so everybody calls him Daniel Kim. And he was volleyball. Young, great of volleyball, beach volleyball. He sends me a lot of funny memes. What's up? Daniel Kim and M Young. Daniel Kim MK. Missionary kid. He was the oldest. Three brothers and 1s older brother. And my friend Paul Kim MK. I'm going to do a whole Paul Kim thing too. I think I know. Twelve. Paul kim's. But Daniel Kim, missionary kid. Then daniel Kim. Danny Kim. Toronto met him through collaboration. Toronto mcda's wedding. One of the funniest guys. I love him. I remember one time someone said, Man, Danny snores so loud. And he goes, I love it. I love snoring. 2s I like that you said that. Because I snore too. And everybody hates snores. Not our fault. God made us this way. We can't help it. And everybody hates us. When you go to like, church camp or whatever, I don't want to sleep with PK. Deep in the same room with PK freaking snore. 2s I remember my college roommates too. Matt Hudson my white college roommate I would wake up and books would be on my bed. He would throw, like, paperback books at me, 1s make me stop snoring. I'm like, Yo, dude, the salt 2s daniel Kim Hyung who I met because he asked me to. MC and this is really sad his son Dragon Kim died 1s in a crazy accident when they were camping and a tree fell on Dragon Kim when they were sleeping 1s on Dragon and his friend 2s sorry to bring the mood down, but I'm just saying that's another dan Kim Hyung that I know and that's crazy. 1s Hope he's doing well. Much love to you, daniel Kim Hyung they started Dragon Kim Foundation. You can look it up. Dragon Kim Foundation online. They turned a really tragic ultimate heartbreak sad 2s he and his wife Grace. 1s The sad. You know, I'm talking about Wayne Watson, Michael Carr, Steven Curtis Chapman. You know. So thank you. Young, amazing older brother. And it was good seeing you a couple months ago and just I love you. I love I love you. And all the older brothers and sisters, I'm so blessed. Thank you. Thank you, thank you.

10.  We all have many layers

Truly appreciate you. I just want to say I appreciate all of you guys, too, for listening. And I don't even know where this podcast is going, but I do want to say it's helping me sort out a lot of thoughts. Not only things I want to say on stage, because I am going to say some of this stuff on stage, but just in life, things that make us who we are. I was thinking about that first scene of Office Space, by the way, one of the greatest movies ever, one of my top ten favorite movies, along with Shawshank Redemption and Parasite. Office Space first scene is this white guy is rapping, and he knows this gangster raps on word for word. And then these two black guys pull up, and then he rolls up his window, and then he stops rapping. I'm like, that's me, man. I know Tupac hit him up. Were for first off, fuck your bitch. And they click. You claim west side will we ride? Coming quick looking you claim to be a player but a fuck you what? Very crazy, vulgar gangster rap song. And I blasted that in my car. And then all of a sudden, four black guys have rolled up a red light with my windows down, and I quickly changed to FM radio. I'm not going to be rapping that with them next to me. They're probably laughing my ass. And then this song that comes up is some Rihanna song. Next thing I know, I'm like, like I'm the only girl that you ever love. Want you to make me feel like I'm the only girl in the world. I'm just singing that. Instead, they're looking over me like, okay. And. It's okay. You don't have to be, you know, cookie cutter all one way. And this this is who I am, you know, a preacher's kid. Green American preachers kid. Grew up in America, burbank, California, then Westwood, then Cape Town, then Temple City, then Glendale, you know, and and that all shaped me in different parts of my life. And whoever we're hanging out with, that Jim Rohn, the motivational speaker. Rest in peace. He said, you are the average of the five people you hang out with. It is mostly true. So I hope we can all choose our friends wisely, especially as we get older.

11.  Mastermind Group

And the last thing I want to share is I hope all of you listening can form a mastermind group. I'm going to dedicate an entire podcast to that coming up in one of the next episodes. But I went to this leadership conference called Leap. I was a mentor, and most of the things I knew, we were mentoring these high school college kids. But Dr. Bill, who started it, dr. Bill Dorfman, if you listen, episode one. He's the person that took me out with Paul Abdul, and she tickled me, but he was speaking, and he said, the most important thing you'll do after you graduate college is form a mastermind group. And I was like, whoa. I kind of heard of it, but I didn't really know what it was. And he's like, my mastermind group is the reason why I met my business partner, and we kept each other accountable, and we sold our teeth whitening product to Phillips, and we made $100 million. He's like, a mastermind group is not only for business, but it's to keep each other accountable. And I remember feeling really isolated as a dad. A lot of dads do, and just as men, especially Asian men, 1s you're told not to express your feelings or open up. I just remember feeling so isolated, and I remember when Dr. Bill said that, and it was just like, years later from that conference, I was like I looked at I Googled it, and there's pages and pages of how to form a mastermind group. Different mastermind. There's books on it. And I was like, okay, I'm going to do it. And I started out with a couple of my friends. Shout out to Dave Vaughn, Eric Lim. They're the first. And then with the dads that were near our area, from the dads that I knew that I was already friends with and had a connection with, we grew the group. I think, honestly, a max number, a good number, is seven, even. Seven, when you go around and you talk about how you're doing it, it takes a while. Like, four to seven is a good number her but shout out to John Lee Young, kim Roy Chung, Ryan Lee. My brothers, seven of us, we've been meeting for years now. We meet once every two months. 1s Of one person presents on a topic like business topic, what they're working on, how we can all improve 2s in business as a dad, as a husband, in life. And then we go around and we all talk about how we're doing in life and we open up and it's been a game changer. I would tell you that it's been a game changer, a life saver. And I encourage you to take action, take initiative. We really need to connect, open up more. People are really isolated and lonely. I wish I had the time to help people form it, but I don't. I'm working a couple jobs and three kids and 1s trying to do everything I can to pursue my dream in comedy. But I hope there's even one person takes initiative. The first couple of meetings are really awkward. The first meeting is really awkward because you're like, what are we doing? Are we doing right? I mean, you follow the guidelines, but there's no perfect way to do it. But once you get it going and have a consistent time to meet, we pay dues, too. We pay dues each time we meet. And if you miss, you pay a penalty. And then we take that money and then we take a family trip. We went to Palm Springs, which was awesome. So I hope there's one person listening and you start this. It'll be amazing.

12.  Thank you, Everyone write your goals down and Go For It!

Also shout out to Scarlett, who is out of nowhere is subscribing to my podcast for $3 a month. Amazing. Only my third episode and she stole me $3 a month for this. Thank you. Appreciate you. And I've gotten a whole bunch of positive feedback and a lot of constructive criticism. Thank you all. Love of you all. But I realize I'm so glad I'm just doing it. And if you are thinking about doing something, just put a plan together. Just start doing. You're going to make mistakes, but it's better doing it than not there's. 1s A motivational speaker businesswoman. Alicia Dunhams. I went to her seminar once. She helps people write their book. You know, just get your book written. And so many people think about doing it, and they don't do it, including myself. And she always has this quote, says, my imperfect book is better than the book you've never written. Her actual quote is, my shitty book is better than the book you've never written. She's like, at least I wrote one. It's not perfect. A lot of people are all talking. They don't do it. So I hope we take more action. 1s Let's do it. Let's do it, and let's write down our goals. Let's take action. And 1s I feel like Tony Robbins right now. And live victoriously. No, but for real. Let's go for it. Life is short.
