Hey, everybody, this is Daniel day. Kim, you're listening to PK. Hi. This is Kim TEU. Please listen to PK. This is jay chong, the music producer, a member of the group. Solid, solid, solid. And you're listening to chat GPK. 3s Welcome back, welcome back, welcome back. Welcome back to chat GPK. What's up? This is your brother, PK. Episode four.

1.       1,000 Downloads!

Amazingly, somehow I hit 1000 downloads, which is mind boggling to me. I'm sure some of those people were trying to find chat GPT stuff and they accidentally clicked on my podcast. But welcome anyways. Thank you. This is about stories of comedy and pain, about a struggling comic who has multiple jobs and three kids trying to make things happen. And I appreciate you, all of you listening about all this stuff that's going on.

2.       Lakers, Kobe, Clipper Nation, Decades of Pain

First off, I'm a sports fan, huge sports fan. So I just want to say congrats to the lakers. I'm born and raised in La. I'm a huge clipper fan, but lakers had a great season. That was one of the most amazing turnaround seasons ever. When they started two and ten, I thought, no way they're going to make the playoffs. Even told my laker friends that and then had egg all over my face, which I've had before with the Lakers. I remember when they traded away shaq, I was like, kobe's never going to win again. Shoved it in my face twice. I've never went from hating a player so much to at the end of his career, I just respected him so much. Mamba mentality, rest in peace, cope be. When he passed away, I was McGing a friend's wedding. Stacy kwan. Congratulations. Really close to there in Malibu. 1s It was a daytime wedding, and right when I was about to start him seeing the wedding was when everybody started getting the news that Kobe had passed. And for someone that I never knew, never met, and as a Clipper fan, I was just always like, whatever, towards the Lakers. And then I haste to hate number eight, Kobe. She was cocky, arrogant. Number 24, Kobe, was different, more mature. But for someone that I never met, I couldn't believe how emotional I was. I was crying, and I was like, man, I got to get it together. I'm at the MCU wedding. I got to be professional. But I was really close to where he passed away with Gigi and everyone else in the helicopter. And the way that affected the world, especially La. Just shows how one person can make such a huge impact. The biggest impact, I think, is how he approached the game, is just 1s put all of your heart and soul, your mind into it and focus and leave everything on the court. So rest in peace, Kobe. Congrats to the Lakers. See, Laker fans will be like, nah, it's champions a bust. I get it. When you're spoiled with 17 championships, I get it. But for Clipper fans who have been through decades of pain and chokes. 2s That was a successful season, Laker fans, way more successful than the Clippers. We cannot stay healthy. The clippers break my heart. Every year I'll dedicate an entire podcast episode to why I'm a Clipper fan later on. A quick teaser, though, is because my parents transferred me in high school to a new high school. I ate lunch alone every day for a while. I had a $900 Volkswagen Golf with a front bumper used to fall off. And then I drove to the sports arena alone, where the Clippers used to play. It was empty. They were last place every year. You could buy an $8 ticket and walk all the way down to the front. I bought $100 Clipper started jacket, which all the gangsters used to wear back in the day. The starter jackets. I bought $100 Clipper started jacket still in my closet. I'm looking at it right now. One of my most prized possessions. It shows. I remember back then, I was like, clippers are going to win it all one day. No, 30 years later, but I still have faith and Clippers for life. But congrats, lakers Nuggets are just a better team this year. Shout out to my brother Doy from Denver. This might be the year, man. Be happy for you. And they have a great team, but

3.       Jimmy Freakin Butler

I'm really rooting for Jimmy Butler. Jimmy Butler in the heat. If you're not a sports fan, at least you should know this story. Jim me butler. 2s No dad. Some people say Michael Jordan is his dad. YouTube. Michael Jordan is Jimmy Butler's dad. First you laugh it off. And then I watched a few and man the timelines match. Illegitimate child. MJ paid off the mom, maybe, and they look alike. Jimmy Butler without hair. Looks like Michael Jordan. And he has that drive, that killer instinct. But Jimmy Butler was kicked out of the house by his mom when he was about 13. Was homeless for a while, had a rough childhood. 3s I'm sure more difficult than all of us. And then went to community college. Very rarely ever do community college basketball players make the NBA. Ever. I can't even think of anyone else I don't know, to be honest. Community college transferred to D, one market. He, ah, 2s went to the NBA. He barely was a 30th pick. And then he 3s he but he was a bench warmer. He was a 15th guy off the bench. 1s And. Shh. Most of those players, they're out of the league in a few years. A few of them become role players. He worked his ass off, became a starter, and then moved around a few teams. And now, after many years, he's a six time all star, five time second team all defense Olympic gold medal winner. And he took the heat to the Finals. They lost to the Lakers in the bubble, but he's about to lead a heat to another Finals appearance with a team that is much inferior to the Celtics. And they're missing two of their key players. This guy is William Wallace on the basketball court. And what I like is, when they interview his teammates, they ask, what is it about Jimmy's leadership? He always just says, Just shoot it. Shoot it with confidence. Just shoot it. And when you have a leader like that, that leads by example, works hard, and then instills in your confidence where you're not scared to make a mistake, that's great leadership, you know. 1s We might have all had bosses where they yell at you if you make a mistake and you just hate work. As a recruiter for many years, I always heard people when they talked about how they didn't like their boss, that's a big reason why people move. They can be making good money, but they'd rather be in a happier place. And some of these bosses that yell and scream, 1s you. I've had bosses like that, and it was like hell going to work. I do want to give a shout out to my current boss, John, who's great. And then my last boss, Todd, 1s amazing boss. He was such a great director, and he really got to know us as people, not just we weren't just a number. So I really appreciated him. Before that, I had a string of bosses. I was just constantly yelling and angry. He was angry if you make a mistake. So the way Jimmy Butler leads, I really respect it. 1s He's taking a bunch of four undrafted players, and they're about to go to the finals. So I'm rooting for Jimmy Butler. I think Nuggets are going to win, but I'm rooting for Jimmy Butler in the Heat to go all the way this year. I'm a huge sports fan, huge Dodger fan, Rams fan, but I'll watch anything. I watch the whole F One racing series on Netflix. My wife would fall asleep next to me every time. Anytime I want my wife to fall asleep in the car, I put some sports radio on and then she's knocked out, like, white noise to her. 2s And I'm trying to get my kids into sports. They like going to the games, but they're not really into the way. My older brothers and myself and my nephews, we have a chat where we just talk about sports. And I have text groups where majority of our conversation is just sports. That's what we do. And there's two groups. There's the MMA group, those guys, my brothers. 2s Actually, there's three. There's the MMA Group, guys. I kind of know what's going on, but I really don't know what's going I only know, like, the big fights. There's the soccer tech group. My nephews, I don't know what's going on. I only know Son Hong Min, like the Korean player in Tottenham Spurs, and just a few players, right? But they're hardcore soccer, like international soccer. 1s And then there's American sports, where I'm a fanatic, like a sports nut. And I'll go into it more. But one of the reasons why, especially because my older brothers used to take me Dodger games and stuff. But 2s when my parents transferred me to a new high school, I ate lunch alone in the beginning. And I remember reading the sports page in the library while I ate lunch. I just couldn't fit in this new school. I hated it. But 1s I would just escape into the sports page front to back, la times, box scores, statistics, everything. And it just gave me a comfort 1s to this day. 1s

4.        Let me get some of that Ph*t a**

And I'll go into that more another time. But before we get into the word of the day, let me just give some tips for all of you out there, is that when you text someone, make sure you're texting the right person. Because 2s before my current job, like three jobs ago, I'm going to do a whole podcast on just all the jobs I've had. My first job was making 425 an hour at Lighthouse Christian Bookstore as a high school. 1s Student cashier and took out the trash and stock books. But 2s one of the jobs, because I recently told the story, I want to share it with you. I'm not going to share the person's name, but someone was going to get me a job. It was about ten years ago. Someone's going to give me a job. And before 2s the interview, we were on Facebook. And since we knew each other, we just casually on Facebook messenger. I was like, hey, what's the dress code? Like, what time 1s is the interview? And what's the insurance? Like, I'm just asking, like, basic questions, and he's answering me. And I guess he was talking with his girlfriend, going back and forth. And 1s I asked like, oh, so could you send me the health and dental and vision insurance info? And then the message I got back was, I can't wait to get some of that fat ass this weekend. 5s I was like, Excuse me, sir. And he was like, oh, my God, I'm so sorry. I'm so embarrassed. And I'm like, yeah, sir, I think this means I'm going to get the job, right? He was so embarrassed. To this day, we always crack up about it. I'm never going to share who it is, but he knows. And yeah, I was just tripping out 1s my eyes. My Asian eyes became saucers. I was like, what's the dress code? Let me get some of that fat ass this weekend. Oh, it's an interesting dress code, sir. What what time should I show up? Can't wait to get some of that fat ass. Oh. 2s It's an hour early. 1s Yeah. Make sure to text the right person. I'm sure we've all made some mistakes, but it could be fatal to your career. Another thing, a tip I want to share, I'll probably start with PK's tips.

5.       Early Harvest

Every podcast is please, if you guys if you're trying to press a girl, don't go full on 1s bougie d bag. I was with my wife at dinner, and one time I saw this Asian couple right next to us. You could hear them. And the server brings he brings the wine, and the guy sips it. He sips it like he's like a billionaire the way some people do. And then he looks at the waiter and he goes, oh, was this an early harvest just off of smelling the wine? Bro, I just wanted to yell, bra. 1s Shut up. You do not know it was an early harvest. By smelling the wine, like, you can tell the grapes were picked early. And the waiter is like, you could tell. He's biting his lip, like and he's like, I don't know. He's like, smells like an early harvest. Do you think she's impressed by that? Come on. 1s

7. Unhelpful Honda

Another tip I want to give is to helpful Honda. You're a billion dollar company. Why are your giveaways so cheap on the radio? Those helpful Honda commercials. Oprah used to give away cars. Ellen used to give away trips and iPads. Helpful Honda. I know they're trying to be blue collar and trying to relate to the common person that's just trying to pay their bills. Then if you're trying to help, then give more. 1s Every giveaway is like, oh. 2s Joey's family, they can't afford soap, so we got them three bars of soap that will last them a week. And then they have all these paid actors. Thank you, helpful Honda. Joey's bicycle tire popped. We got him a new bicycle tire from Honda. Thank you, Honda. Come on, Honda. You can do better than that.

8.       Word of the Day: Lowkey  Today's word of the day is low key. And this has been an evolution of the word low key. I looked at an urban dictionary. My new best friend in 2018 low key was, 1s oh, yeah, me and her have a low key relationship or something more like a secret relationship. And then it evolved into a Gen Z low key. It's pretty much like when you are excited about something but you're not proud to say it. 1s Low key. Like country music. 1s You're kind of saying you're not too proud, but then for some reason, you tell everyone, I low key. You want to go to Coachella? Not low key. You want to go to coachella. Or they say, Gen Z says it about everything. I low key. Like pretzels. No, you just like pretzels. Why low key? 1s Anyways, that's the word of the day today's.

9.       Stand Up Comedy Bit of the Day: Brian Regan:  PB& Jelly

Stand up comedy bit of the day comes from one of my favorite comedians ever, Brian Regan. I used to have the CD where he was against a brick wall. It just said the word live on it. And when high school and college, I had that CD on repeat. I listened to it over 20 times. He's so goofy, self deprecating. Reminds me of Conan. And he's clean. I Joe Coy and I went to his concert at the Wiltern Theater in Cape Town a long time ago. And then I took my wife. You see families and kids there. He's one of the few performers like Jim Gaffigan, where it's just clean comedy and funny, because sometimes it's clean but not funny. You got to be funny first. Super funny and super goofy. 1s And then I looked him up recently on YouTube. One of his bits, 1980 Evening at the Improv, the Hollywood Improv, where I had the honor of performing there before as well. And he has this bit about and I didn't know. I thought peanut butter and jelly in the same jar was like after the year 2000, but this bit was from 1980. I didn't realize how early that was, but I remember he had this bit like I went to the grocery store and I saw peanut butter and jelly in the same jar. 2s Who who is this lazy who is like, yeah, I could I could go for a sandwich, but I can't be opening and closing all kinds of jars. I got things to do. I can't be opening and closing all kinds of jars, cleaning who knows how many knives. And I remember that bit, and I didn't realize, wow, the whole peanut butter and jelly in the same jar 1s started in the 80. And because of Brian Regan, I never bought that. Every time I was at the grocery store, I looked at peanut butter and jelly in the same jar. I'm like, yeah, that is lazy, man. And is that okay? I don't know. That doesn't look right. Peanut butter and jelly, you can't buy two separate jars and make your own sandwich. But Brian Regan, check him out if you don't know. Now you know. He's one of the best ever, and he does it clean. All respect to him. And if I could just have his career, because 2s he's not on a level of famous where everyone will go up to him on the stream, be like, oh, my God, hey, can I picture picture? He's not bothered like that. Or maybe in certain areas he is, but when he was on a Joe Rogan podcast years ago, he said he will go out with his family, and then they would do those dinner parties, and then there'll be some of their dad there. And then one of the dads said, what do you do? He goes, oh, I do stand up comedy. And then the dad goes, oh, so, like, open mics? 1s Brian Regan has sold out, like, a thousand theater shows and tens of thousands of comedy club shows for decades, right? And he's made millions. But he's a humble guy, and so he was just like, oh, yeah, I've done open mics, too. But you could just tell, even at that level, you're not world famous. You have your fans, and then you can live a normal life. It's definitely a dream of mine.

10.    Jonny Kim

Speaking of that, the two people I want to talk about today, they are on another level of fame, and they keep rising in fame, but in the Korean community, they are alist fame, and it's the king. 1s Of Korean parents and the King of Koreatown. And I'm not pitting them against each other. I'm just celebrating both of them. On the title, I put Johnny Kim versus John Dumbfounded Park, because when you put verses, people are more interested. This is an experiment I did. I did a Vlog a long time ago on YouTube because I used to live in Glendale, where there's a lot of Armenians, and I put Koreans and Armenians, and I talked about the similarities. Koreans and Armenians are similar. We both live in apartments and drive $80,000 cars. We both smoke outside of churches, which is true. I used to live next to Armenian church, and right after church, bunch of men smoked. Right after church, 2s koreans and Armenians. There's always a group of girls. They all have black hair, but a few of them always have blonde hair, right? So I did this whole thing, and then just it was very positive, the comments, it's still up on YouTube. You can look it up. But then I changed it for an experiment. I changed it to Koreans versus Armenians. I just changed the title. The video is the same, and you could tell people don't watch the video. They don't read articles, they don't have time or lazy. A bunch of comments from these Armenian guys, man, like, Korean suck my day. Korean is a problem. You want to come at me, 2s bro? Watch the video, man. So it just shows people are way more into verses, and they're excited by it, titillated by it, whatever. Max Kellerman, my favorite sports commentator. He's a Jewish commentator. He grew up in New York. He was a rapper, went to Columbia University. Very well spoken, eloquent, well read, but also knows hip hop culture. And 2s he's a family man. He has three daughters. He's my favorite. He's just funny, too. He's really funny. And he's on a sports radio morning show called Keisha and Jwell and Max on ESPN, and I listen to him every morning. But he was saying that. 1s If you put four different sports on the on the corner of, like, a New York intersection or La intersection, where a bunch of people are hanging out, and on one corner is basketball, and the other corner is tennis, and another corner is soccer, another corner is boxing. The majority of people are gonna they're gonna gravitate towards the boxing first, like the fight first. And it's just human nature. And so he's a box expert, too. He knows everything about boxing. 2s I put verses because these two people, Johnny Kim and John Park, they show in two different ways how you can maximize your potential in different situations and how they are continuing to just be role models to our youth, to all of us. 1s First Johnny Kim. He conquered academia. He is every Korean parent's wet dream, every parent's wet dream, but especially Korean parents. He graduated from Harvard Medical School. It's not enough that he became a doctor. It's hard enough to go to medical school. He went to Harvard Medical School, and then he became a Navy Seal. It's not enough that he went to the Navy. He had to be top of the top. A Navy Seal. Most people quit during their Navy Seal training. 1s And then that wasn't enough. He had to leave Earth. Out of 18,000 people that tried out, twelve were chosen. And he was one of the twelve that became an astronaut. 1s Unbelievable. This guy is hall of Fame korean. It's all about second place, everyone. Johnny Kim won life. It's all about second place. All about second place. Ace. Just stamp it, seal it. It's. Johnny Kim won. All right? 2s One of our friends, 2s they have the biggest house in our group of friends. It's a huge house in OC, and it's beautiful. And I love them. They earned it, too. They worked their ass off. But I remember when we went to their house and we were all like, it's all about second place, everybody. 1s They won. Beautiful home. Love them. I'm talking about you, John and Sonya, if you ever listening. Love you guys. 2s And Eddie and Jeannie and Doy and Anita. All right. Behind them. All you guys, rich, man. Dude, OC. You guys are a different breed, man. But OC is boring, though, man. That's one thing. Boring. Yeah, it's safer. The roads are wider, but cookie cutter, man. All right. 1s In terms of winning at life, man. 1s Johnny Kim, medical doctor, navy Seal, astronaut. Easy, Johnny. But when I first heard the story, I was like, dude, calm down, Johnny. But then I dug in deeper, and he overcame a lot in his personal life. You can Google it, but basically high school, his dad was very abusive, used to beat his mom. Used to beat him when he was 16. 1s His dad really started he was drunk and really started beating up his mom. He tried to intervene. His dad hit him with a barbell, knocked him unconscious, I guess. His mom called the cops. Cops came. They cornered him in the attic, and then there was a shootout. Oh. His dad pulled a gun out on his mom. 2s There was a shootout, and the cops killed. And his dad it was in the crew newspaper. Apparently, they lived in Santa Monica, 2s and he grew up there. That's where Johnny grew up. 1s

11.    Jon Park – Dumbfoundead  -  30 minutes away or with traffic an hour away, 30 minutes away in Cape Town. Jonathan Dumbfounder Park grew up, and I met Dumbfounded when he was 14 at collaboration, when he freestyle rap, which is crazy to think about now for me, because my oldest son is 14, and in four years he's gonna go to college. I'm old. But also, I remember back then, like, oh, wow, like this town kid. He came up, he was funny, he was witty. First he did one freestyle battle rap, then he came up with a group called G Kun Flow. Then he performed many times. Then he was a judge. Dumbfound has done, like, every phase of our collaboration talent show, but 1s hanging out with them, watching them grow, it was amazing to see. 3s He didn't talk about it much. And I know Dumbfound is reconnected with his dad, but one of our first shows is a small show, is like, 200 people in Cape Town, and not many people really remember this. Dumb had a song called mom is going to shoot your ass. It was about his mom being abused by dad and mom wanting to get a gun. And basically. 2s And it was really moving and haunting and heartfelt. And it just showed me, like, you know, how rough he had it. Dumb found his mom, came over, brought him and his younger sister over when they were toddlers babies over the border, through from Argentina all the way up to La. And they struggled, and all he had was pen and paper at a skateboard. He used to skateboard down to 1s La Mert Park. It's freestyle battle rap with mostly black and Latino guys. He was one of the only Asians. Such a different life than 95% of the Korean people that I know. And that's why 1s I just feel he's like one of the chosen ones to be great. Just like Johnny Kim. All the hardships that he went through. And 1s to me, he's one of the best rappers in the world. Now. He's acting. He's been in so many movies. His upcoming role with Aquafina, he's been in shows with Aquafina. He's been in documentaries. He's hilarious. Comedian, host, organizes shows for Ktown. Brings a community together, all different ethnic cities. Has a successful podcast, has fun with Dumb podcast, takes care of his mom. For me, that's number one. You take care of your mom, your parents, you're successful, period. That's it. But after that, just. 1s Just the level of fame. He's gone on multiple national tours, international tours. He's well known in Korea, all over the world. He's performed in Europe. And just to see that, just like an older brother and a friend, 2s it's amazing, inspirational. And the great ones, they go through a lot of hardship. So I hope even though some of you may listen, me may be listening, going through some stuff, hopefully we can all turn that pain into peace, pain into progress. Those obstacles, it makes us stronger. We have to keep getting back up and 1s use whatever talent that we have to stay positive and keep moving forward. And I just want to highlight those two today. Like, Johnny can him gold medal Korean, gold medal of life, Korean. And then the King of Korean parents, basically Johnny Kim. And then the king of Cape Town. John park. Dumbfounded. They have a mural of him on the side of the market in Cape Town. How many people have a mural of their face? 1s He truly is king of Ktown Man and really proud of him and everything he's done and continues to do. I'm excited to see what the next chapters are. I hope all of us will just continue to move forward. Let's use all of our talents and dream big. Can't stop, won't stop. Hope to see you at some upcoming shows. That's my Alexa alarm. Going to go pick up my kiddos. Love you all. All thank you for listening. Peace. 1s
