Spinning Truths & Dropping Wedding Bombs: DJ ESG’s No-BS Guide to Your Big Day
- In a world where weddings are both chaos and perfection, DJ ESG—aka Eric Scott Gold—emerges as the wise-cracking, truth-dropping, mic-spinning legend the Philadelphia Tri-State area never knew it needed. Armed with nearly 175 thousand streams across 15 separate platforms, he’s the proud host of the region's number one wedding podcast, where advice flows freely—sometimes for couples, sometimes for vendors, and always delivered with the subtlety of a confetti cannon.
DJ ESG is not your average private event DJ; he’s a walking wedding encyclopedia with a sarcasm filter permanently set to "off." With 30+ years in the biz, over 3,500 events rocked, 1,000 glowing reviews, and a résumé so sparkly it could double as a disco ball, this guy doesn’t just sugarcoat reality—he skips the sugar altogether. Millennials and Gen Z? He sees you. He knows your flea-sized attention spans. That’s why his micro tips are short, snappy, and unfiltered, served with a heaping side of "you're welcome."
The accolades? Oh, they’re endless. Seven-time "International Mobile Entertainer of the Year" finalist. Multi-time "Best Of" winner in Philadelphia, San Diego, AND Bucks County. The nation’s loudest, proudest LGBTQ wedding advocate, and the first to hoist the Pride flags at the International DJ Expo like the hero weddings never knew they needed. Oh, and did we mention he’s officiated over 200 weddings? Including 50+ same-sex unions? Or that he had the honor of MCing THE Jason Kelce wedding with his buddy Bob on the decks? Yeah. #GoBirds indeed.
So, buckle up for DJ ESG's wedding wisdom—raw, real, and straight from the heart. Peace, Love, and God Above!

What's up, guys? Dj ESG House Wedding Advice season number 10, and today I'm talking about venue prices and how to maximize the money you have in your budget to put it to a venue that you know is going to be awesome and work for your big day. Recently I've had a ton of clients who live in upstate New Jersey where it's three times as much money all the way around every fucking vendor, dj, photographer, videographer, photo booth photographer, venue bus, transportation, everything but the dress, really, and even that's more expensive than New York City. It's like three times the price. So what are they doing? They're coming down to our area, our neck of the woods, and having their weddings down here. They're making a weekend out of it. It's like a vacation, it's like a mini vacation. So they're basically saying hey, you know what? We're going to save a ton of money. We're going to drive an hour and a half, two hours, out of this territory into that territory and we're going to get so much more bang for our buck. Well, guess what's happening? That's what's happening. It's profiting me, it's making me money, it's putting people in a position where they don't have to spend an arm and a leg and like 16 mortgage payments for a wedding. It's fantastic, and don't think that you can't get people to do it. Listen, I drive sometimes two hours up and back to a wedding, sometimes three hours, depending upon where it is.
Speaker 1:People come from all over the place. If you have a Saturday wedding or a Friday wedding, or even a Sunday wedding to a point, usually Friday and Saturday you can get people to drive an hour and a half two hours, get to the wedding, stay at the hotel, hang out party, go to the ceremony, cocktail reception, stay overnight and then go home the next day. They make a weekend out of it, especially when they get room blocks. What a room block is is that they put a bunch of rooms together for you hotel or the place you're having the venue, and you get a discount for filling them all because they want you to fill them all. You know what I mean. Like okay, here's a 10-room block, you can fill them all up and they're this amount of money. And sometimes bride and grooms are paying for their parents, sometimes parents are paying for their aunts, uncles, relatives and cousins, and sometimes couples who are invited are like Like yo, you know what I'm going to make a weekend out of this. We're going to have a good fucking time. You know what I mean.
Speaker 1:So you know, don't feel like you can't live in like North Jersey or LA and then have your wedding in San Diego or Dallas and have your wedding outside of Fort Worth or New Orleans and have your wedding in Slidell or Miami and have your wedding. Well, fort Lauderdale is probably more expensive than Miami, but you can probably have your wedding anywhere you want, an hour or two hours away from where you actually live, and it's probably going to be cheaper, depending upon which way you drive and depending upon where you live. Now it might be more money. You know, if you live in Philly, where I live, and let's say you go to opposite direction, to New York City, you're paying five times as much money. But if you live in a place like you know, pittsburgh, and you drive out to some suburb, some barn, you're not paying as much money as you would be in downtown Pittsburgh.
Speaker 1:So remember, venue, location is key. You don't have to get married within five minutes of where you live. You can get married anywhere you want. People will show up, people will drive, people will spend the money and you can get a lot more bang for your buck. I hope that helps. It's great advice. It's honest advice. It's fucking the shit and keep calling me out because I'm not moving up to New York City anytime soon. Four times as much money. You can come down here. You can have your wedding outside of Philadelphia. We're not going to, you know, rip you off and charge you an arm and a leg. You know, because we're not going to stop myself, we're not going to do that to you. It.
