Have you ever felt a stranger within your own skin? Our latest episode tenderly addresses the shadows of trauma with a poet who transforms their healing journey into a symphony of words. Their poetry, encapsulating the raw essence of dissociation, serves as both a mirror and a map for those navigating the treacherous terrains of post-trauma existence. As the verses from "Dissociation" echo throughout our conversation, we witness the vulnerability and strength it takes to reclaim the body as a sanctuary, to mend the severed ties with one's emotions, and to seek safety within when the outside world has taught you otherwise.

This candid dialogue with our guest peels back the layers of survival mechanisms that so many carry unseen. Through their poignant reflections and the stanzas of their poem, featured in "The Journey Back to Myself: A Book of Healing Poetry, Second Edition," and "Sound Alchemy: A Warrior's Path," we offer understanding, solace, and solidarity. It's not just about the struggle with flashbacks, the empty gaze to avoid pain, or the haunting nightmares—it's about the unwavering quest to live freely in one's skin. Tune in for a moving testament to resilience and the continual effort to make a home within oneself.

Speaker 1:

Dissociation. I want to be in my body. I want my body to be my home. I want to feel that my body is safe. I want to be connected to my feelings. But I was taught at 11, 19, 23, and 25 that my body is not safe. It's not a safe place for me to be. I was taught to disconnect from myself, to float somewhere far away. That was the only way I could survive the pain that they caused. Now, as I continue on my healing journey, I want my body back. I want to be connected to myself. I want my body to be my home. I want to feel safe in my body. The second I feeling feelings, I immediately go away. My eyes get this glassy look and my face gets this blank stare. Once again I am gone, trying to not feel what I'm feeling. I want my body back. I want to be safe in my body. I want the memories of what they did to stop. I want the flashbacks to go away. I want the nightmares to go away. I want to live my life. I want my body to be my home. I want to feel safe in my body.

Speaker 1:

This was my poem Dissociation from the book the Journey Back to Myself, a book of healing poetry, second edition, and Sound Alchemy A Warrior's Path.
