Hello and welcome back to another interesting episode of Holistic Happiness Club. This episode is going to be interesting because we have an interesting guest on our show. Her name is Dr Pooja and she is joining us from the capital region of India, which is Delhi. She is a dentist, she is a public health professional and she is also a nutritionist. She believes in holistic health and holistic nutrition. She is also working to create support group for men and women. We will talk to her in details about all those things in the show and we will also understand what is her modality, what is her approach to holistic health. So this episode is going to be very, very useful to all of you. Holistic Happiness Club is a place where we talk about happiness holistically. We understand that happiness is not a single faceted thing. I'm very well, thank you okay, so hope your morning has been great and I'm so honored to have you on this show, holistic happiness club, and I'm sure that my listeners are going to be benefited from this episode, from the conversation that we are going to have right now. So I'm so honored, I'm so happy, I'm so grateful that you are here and I'm so excited to have this conversation with you.

So, first thing that I would ask for the benefit of my listener, that they want to know who is Dr Pooja. From the words of Dr Pooja, who are you, how you have gotten into what you are doing right now, what is your background, how your journey has been so far and how your typical day goes by, because I understand that you are into multiple fields. So how you manage multiple things in a day. So that's what I want to start with, so go ahead so I am Dr Pooja Dhingra.

Speaker 2:

Thank you for having me here, and it's an honor for me also to be in this conversation with you. And when it comes to who is Dr Pooja, well, pooja is herself exploring who she is. I think it will take her a lifetime to understand the purpose and why she's here. Professionally, I'm a dental surgeon and I'm a public health educator, public health professional, and I have been working with a lot of communities and NGOs, you know. And after realizing my you know like niche and expertise in public health, I decided that I will be working for women categorically. And when it comes to working for women, it includes all the dimensions of health. That is, not only the physical health, that includes the mental health, and so and now I'm a certified nutritionist and a wellness coach also so I'm also paying more attention to the nutrition because, as it says, you know, there's a very famous quote, we all know about it that let food be thy medicine.

Speaker 2:

So that is my funda. That's the fundamental, that the objective I'm carrying forward and I'm working on that principles also, and when it comes to my work, so I am clinically, I'm not, I'm not working as a dentist anymore I'm more into community outreach works, I'm more into health camps and more into health advocacy, be it mental health, be it physical health. I'm working for the people, I am for the people and I'm definitely there for everybody around. And yeah, so this is my professional journey so far and I'm continuing exploring new dimensions. I'm also coming up with a concept, with the concept of with a community group which says Manubal, manubal, where we engage with the different people from different walks of life and we just talk, we are just there for each other.

Speaker 2:

Because I have observed, you know, when I go out for camps, I do observe that you know there is and yes, definitely the upcoming data, the news around, floating around. We are very stressed in our life, in our lives, and I think we need people to be there for us. We can't be alone, so why not create a supportive support group? A we need people to be there for us. We can't be alone, so why not create a supportive support group, a community of people who are there for each other, helping them, boosting their confidence, self esteem, finding solutions to problems See, we can't escape from a problem, but definitely we can have a quick fix for it maybe a fix, a solution for it and then promoting and supporting each other in that community. So this is my upcoming project, which I'm working in and, yes, I have a, I have a diet clinic where I'm also working with my clients no snow promoting, advocating no fat diets, just holistic nutrition and wellness awesome.

Speaker 1:

Uh, this is a lot, a lot of things that they are, you are doing, that you are into, and I often like this kind of personality who does not bracket themselves into one particular thing, that I am just this we are person, we can have varied interest and we can pursue those interests as per our own wish. So congratulations on being so much diverse a person and I wish you all the best for your upcoming project. And it's a need of. Is the. I understand that it's the need of the r because I'm also into the same space, because I understand that these kind of groups are really rarely exist in india. I mean of. Of course, in developed countries it's more common nowadays, but in India, like the growing economy, it needs a lot more of that. I want you to touch upon a little bit more on public health educator and public health advocate. How does that go by? And I mean, how do you go being a public health educator and what your work involves in that area?

Speaker 2:

okay, so I am a freelancer at the moment and a public health educator. So public health, this word itself means I am concentrating on not just an individual but a community, a group of people and, when it comes to the public health advocacy, or an educator. So, there, my work involves educating my community, my people, on various aspects of their health. Not so my work is not, is not very oral health centered, it's diversified. It's into mental health, it's into health and hygiene. It's into nutrition, weight loss, you know. It's into your women's health. It's into menstrual health, the teenage girls, educating them about this, because I've also seen, I've come across that I think when I was in I entered my teens this is what I still remember, thanks to my memory that parents were not very comfortable about talking about the menstrual menstruation with the kids.

Speaker 2:

Menstruation was not very common, uh, amongst the boys. So, uh, it's, it's something which is very natural, it's a very natural phenomenon. It's a biological process which is happening in the body and, uh, sensitizing the boys, sensitizing the girls at a very age to make them understand their body, is very important. So this is also the. This is also part of my work. So I touch every aspect of it and I try to explain them in a very simpler way normalizing things, and this is how you are making a difference, not only in one person's life, but a community. So once the community, when you start touching the communities, I think they benefited at that's.

Speaker 1:

Uh, that's how I see public health ads sure, I mean they say one for all and all for one. So if you are healing one person or changing one person affects the community and if, when you are working on the community, of course the ripple effects.

Speaker 2:

Yes, much donation yeah, all right.

Speaker 1:

So I'm much more curious that you are a professional dentist and now you are working with public health and you are working with communities and also you are advocating holistic nutrition. So how your journey has been, where this transition has come and what has made you this public health educator and caught into this holistic nutrition right.

Speaker 2:

So, uh, it was a very uh, I wouldn't say I had struggled, but yet, yes, uh, I had to go against the odds because, uh, there were people. Why are you leaving? You know this is a very common thing that you've done your bds, go and pursue your mds. Why don't you work, open a clinic? So this is something which is a very common thing, which is expected from a dental surgeon, from a dentist. Now my journey.

Speaker 2:

So I was, I completed my BDS, then I worked I mean, I was there for my in one of the most reputed hospitals in Delhi and, you know, while being there observing the first few weeks, okay, system is new, this is how you are, you know, in the outside world. But then I was also stricken by a thought that you know, it comes with a lot of responsibility also, and then you're working with just, you know, just one aspect of health. So for me, I needed more challenges. So I decided, like I need to study more and I need more, more knowledge to myself and I need to upgrade myself. So I spoke with few of my seniors, my faculties, so there was this upcoming field of public health. Public health was not very much into the hype those times when I was I completed my BDS, so I went in for my public health like, okay, I'll go. We had a small batch and, surprisingly, all my batchmates were dentists. We were 13 of us and they were all dentists. So that was again another motivation for me that, yes, I'm at the right place. Then, you know, I was blessed with amazing mentors during my master's also, and there I learned a lot, a lot. And then comes, once the masters was completed, then I had a lot of options where will, where would I choose?

Speaker 2:

So two things that I observed and identified in in myself being coming from a health care background, being a dentist, being a doctor, is that, you know. One is that understanding the first people, your, your patients, their needs, and being a little empathetic towards their uh, problems, their, their, you know, being understanding their needs, their uh like, what do they want from me, what do they want from a doctor in general? So then it was a decision that was a turning point, a game changer, and I decided that I will be working with the people on ground, rural, every, every walk of life, and I'm there. So I connected with an NGO immediately. I worked with an NGO in Noida and there I was working on nutrition and I was also working on women empowerment. So there was, they had adopted a village and they were working on the women empowerment. They generated some employment and you know, I was a program manager there and I was working and again, a very, very learning experience. I got there and this is how you know the journey had been so far and when it comes to my holistic nutrition now, holistic and why be? Why I like chose to be a holistic and wellness coach, not now I have also struggled with a lot of health issues, going from one doctor to another, multiple things, and I was very fascinated about Ayurveda.

Speaker 2:

You know naturopathy, so I wanted to experiment that, my first experimenting onto others. It was my duty to see how it is working, how the human body is working, and you know the functioning, the physiology, and I did. I also studied nutrition at the same time, like how, what, as humans, like it's it's a beautiful body that we're gifted, like what are we doing with it? We're just messing it up.

Speaker 2:

Stress and you know so much of you know, like toxicity around and how do we find a solution to it? So, with slowly and steadily, understanding, reading, reading, reading, researching and I just came to a conclusion that the more simpler we are, the better our lives are. So let's stay more closer to nature, let's make our life very simpler, let's make our plate very simpler and I think we're all sorted. We're all good to go with our health, with our mental health, with our physical health. So this has been my journey transitioning from my dental to a public health, public health to a community at large and coming to a nutritionist interesting journey, that is, and okay, so walk us through your modalities.

Speaker 1:

If somebody comes to you as a person who is a holistic wellness coach, and you and of some, if some person comes to you with some health challenges, maybe for weight loss or some other health issues like medical problems so what are your modalities? How do you see that person, how do you see that issue and what are your approaches to I mean, to make them heal and make them whole again?

Speaker 2:

okay. So my first approach whenever anybody is reaching out to me is that let us accept ourselves the way we are. So it's very important that acceptance should be there and it takes a long time for us to accept. See, with the current scenario, with the social media, with with being accepted by others first. You know, we as humans, individuals even I was there at at that page some some weeks ago, maybe some years ago we are constantly looking for a validation how we are looking, how we dress up, how we are eating, which restaurant we are going. So a person having a dal chawal simple on a plate would not be well accepted by, I mean, this is just an example I'm citing will not be at par with a person having some very fancy plate. So my approach first is acceptance and the understanding that it's the body which I have to deal with and it will take time. So it took me few years to develop this. It will take me some few months or weeks to, you know, get better and it's always the internal health.

Speaker 2:

I emphasize on weight loss. No, my focus is not weight loss. My focus is getting internally healthy. Internally healthy means your internal environment is healthy, your mental environment is healthy. Weight loss is a byproduct. You'll see the changes automatically. So let's shift our focus from weight loss to a better health, a holistic health, where we are in touch with the nature. We are in touch, in sync with the nature. I would use the word sync the body and the mind is in sync. We are balanced and we are.

Speaker 2:

Also, I don't avoid any food groups. I am not in favor of avoiding the carbs. I'm not in favor of avoiding certain fruits. No, banana, no, it's high on carbs. No, I eat a banana before going for my workout. I have seen my gut health improving a lot. I have also, uh you know, start. I had uh picked up a small challenge for even the people on the social media, uh, chenica, which says that we are just eliminating or we are just quitting sugar, because this sugar thing again, it's a refined, it's a foreign thing. The sugar that we have around us fruits, everything are sugar, but the natural form definitely gives us benefit.

Speaker 1:

So, yes, uh, sticking to the nature, sticking to everything that is natural, is something I advocate and I practice myself, and this is how I uh take care of my client's health, mental and physical, both it is so refreshing to hear, because when I was working as a health coach, a lot of people used to come to us that, like, I want to lose weight, okay, uh, you have thyroid issue, you have other lifestyle problems as well, but okay, for that I take a pill. I just want to lose weight, that's it I mean I was using. I was having a hard time to make them understand that, okay, these are not two separate things we need to work on. I mean you as a whole, right? That's where I think this term holistic also comes into picture. Interesting, your approach is also very much in sync with nature and I like this approach when, when we say that, okay, nothing is bad, okay, nothing is bad, there are places where this might not be useful to you. And there are places where this might not be useful to you and there are places where this particular thing, which others are avoiding, might be useful to you. All right. I just want to touch I mean I want you to touch upon this particular part which you just spoke about acceptance, because, as I understand, with acceptance comes I mean it releases a lot of resistance because and when we are accepting, we are letting go of the resistance, and when we let go of the resistance, we let go of the stress. Maybe that is causing a lot of problem. So, how, how you approach this acceptance and how you make I mean okay, it's up to you I mean how you want to take it forward and how you work on this acceptance part.

Speaker 2:

So, see, acceptance is something which took me, per se, a long time to stick on to, to identify and continue holding on to this. Acceptance is something which we need to understand, in a way that this is who I am Understanding and identifying our key areas right and self-awareness. Because self-awareness, the more aware we are about, about ourselves, the better it will be for us to identify our needs in the society, amongst our friends, amongst our group of people, amongst our family members. And staying firm because, uh see, people look at us in a different way and once we are accepting it, we create a kind of a you know, image or maybe a boundary. I would say that this is how things are like and it should not be very interfering with our own principles and goals. So it, once this is you is attained and achieved, I think it's very easy for us to function more, be more productive and do other things in a very easy manner.

Speaker 2:

This is how I see that acceptance, because we need constant validation. And why do we need that? Even when I sit and ask myself, when I'm into that introspection zone, like why is that person or is that particular incident making any value addition in my life? No, why it takes time, it takes efforts, it takes support. Hence my support group. Manobal is there because I, because it's a personal experience, so every thing that I'm facing I'm taking out and, you know, reaching out, trying to reach out and spread it like you are beautiful and you're good the way you are. Why are we like, trying to fit in when we are different? Why, because somewhere it, you know, makes us stressful, it creates some inner conflict and it disturbs the mental peace and once this portion gets, yeah, disaligned, malaligned, everything. So everything is, you know, interrelated. So, work here, everything gets aligned. So accept yourself the way you are. You are beautiful, you're good.

Speaker 1:

I mean, yeah, stay happy yeah, I mean long time back. Uh, some somebody said to me um, maybe I heard somewhere that if everybody will look like sarukhan or rithik roshan, then their value will go down. I mean everybody. If everybody will start looking like a celebrity, then there is no uniqueness and they are celebrity because of some reason. And we are our own celebrity. We are our own, you know, in our own way. So, very rightly put, accept the way you are right. So, manobal, as I understand the the thing that you just spoke, that you are working on this thing, manobal, which you are, which is an upcoming project for you, and this is for every person from every walk of life, right?

Speaker 2:

Every person, from all walks of life, everybody is welcome. And the interactive interaction, the sessions, the therapies we don't have any therapists on board with us at the moment because we're just in the initial phase, so we are just planning a meetup Like let's meet, let's create a community Like you. People should know that if somebody is here I am, you know, to talk to me, to listen to my problem, help me understand, because sometimes we are caught up in a situation where we question our own decisions, so we need another lens to focus on it. So, yes, this is an upcoming project, all walks of life, everybody is welcome. No, we are not gender biased. So, and we are there for you, you're not alone okay.

Speaker 1:

So it's a non-judgmental space where I can, I can share whatever I want to and I will not be judged. I mean it's a need of the hour. My my best wishes from the bottom of my heart. Thank you.

Thank you so much also, when we were discussing offline, you mentioned that you want to work especially for women, especially those who are abused women. So I just want you to touch upon that and how you have come this idea that you want to with this particular group of people, um abused women to say and yeah, so what is your journey regarding this?

Speaker 2:

okay. So abuse, I would say this aspect, especially with the women, the girls, what? What I see is because, uh, I have interacted, I've got good connects with people, I've got I, I am a people's person, so I I love listening to their problems person, so I love listening to their problems. And many a times, most of the times, I have seen that we women are always trying to adjust in some way or the other right and, be it an unmarried lady or a married lady, we are told always to adjust. We cannot have our own say. Well, I wouldn't say that I'm talking about or bringing feminism here. I'm just talking about equality. Please see me, I mean me as a woman, as another individual, and we have been looked a certain way, we have been told to look a certain way. We've been told to look a certain way, we've been told to talk a certain way. A lot of my friends, a lot of my known people, acquaintances, getting going into the you know the marriage is not working issues with the in-laws, why, so? That sometimes makes me ponder upon why. Because you are a bahu, you are supposed to be a certain way.

Speaker 2:

Abuse is there, uh, you know. Uh, beatings are there. Sometimes they are there. Violence is. You know the violence is there. The emotional trauma, emotional things are there, like why I'm just another human being, I have come to your family and why am I treated in a certain way? I want to be the voice of such people like please, get out, we don't deserve it, we don't, we do not deserve it. We also deserve a life of respect and dignity, and that is why I want to do something for them. Maybe this community group, this support group, can do something for them. We are in the phase of developing certain things, so, but yes, the abuse and you know all this, be it an emotional abuse or a physical abuse, abuse is an abuse Of course.

Speaker 2:

And we should be treated like you treat the boys. I mean, I'm sure the abuse is there with the men also. I'm not denying it's vice versa, but yes, for women. Why? Because there I, I somehow disagree, and you know there is this disagreement with this alignment. Because you are a woman, you have to do this. I don't like this life, so so, so it's. It's a personal uh choice that you know. Because you're a woman, you are supposed to, you're not supposed to be a certain. You are just a housewife. You are just a housewife. You know. These terms irritate me, irritated me. Why? Why are we thinking on those grounds? I'm sure there are men who are also, uh, victims of such abuse. I'm sure all my sympathy with them, all my empathy with them, we welcome you also. It's not that we are only women centered, but yes, for me, I am more centered towards women who are genuinely the victims, who are genuinely not able to. We're losing their own identity in the entire process, be it uh or any relationship, be it the family, be it a married relationship.

Speaker 1:

I just don't want them to lose their item I completely agree with you the kind of society we are. I mean, we are right now. I would not say that we are any more regressed, but we are in the phase of transition and so we need more voice, like you, so that we are on a equal platform, men and women. I'm not talking about women being more powerful than men and men being more powerful than women. Everybody has their own role and everybody should be respected as individual human right. I think this is what you are also talking.

Speaker 2:

Exactly, we are holistic preachers, practitioners, no, so we have to keep the balance in.

Speaker 1:

Okay. So for women, what you are working and for the upcoming project Manobal, I really, really I mean these things. I mean I also want to touch these things on an elaborate manner, so maybe we will do another podcast, sure, sure About these things in length. My last question to you for now, for in in this episode, that what will you advise to people who are just I mean, they are regular office goers or maybe they are working in a business and regular day-to-day men and women how they can take care of their mental and physical health? So what? Some two, three points or one point of however you want to take it okay.

Speaker 2:

I would definitely suggest them to stop making their life very complicated. Just live and let live. Follow a philosophy and make sure that you're sleeping well. Seven to eight hours of sleep is definitely there. Make make your nutrition, make your exercise. Make your schedule very simple, because the simpler it is, the more sustainable it is yeah focus on your sleep, focus on your hydration, focus on your food.

Speaker 2:

Don't skip any meals, enjoy your life, work life balance definitely we all have to create. We have to put in some efforts in creating that balance, because balance is the key. So, just enjoy life and just don't take any stress. There are stress but, yes, we all can manage through different techniques and you know, we know how we have to do it. But nothing is more important than your health, sleep, nutrition, exercise. Indulge into a 45 minutes of exercise. It doesn't have to be very extreme. We always, we tend to make things very complicated. Let's make it simple. It simple, simplicity is the best policy. That's what I would want to tell everybody. I mean, talking to you was like a resonance of my own ideas in so many ways. We are having so common thought. Let I mean, for example, this balance thing. Okay, the motto and the logo of our company says in balance we thrive. Okay, I used to tell people that look at earth in what distance it is from sun. If it is too far, it is going to be cold and we are not going to be there. If it is too close, it is going to be too hot and we are not going to be there. If it is too close, it is going to be too hot and we are not going to be there. It is because the balanced distance that we have from sun, the life is thriving. So there is life always only in balance. I mean there are so many other things as well. So, thank you so much, dr Pooja.
