Dialysis Patient Citizens

FB Live – October 25th: For this latest episode of Kidney Questions for the Doctor, DPC Education Center’s Dr. Velma Scantlebury answers questions from both dialysis and kidney transplant patients. This episode covers many different aspects of living with kidney disease, including the reasons for some dietary guidelines patients are given, why some vaccines have to be updated annually, and much more.

With October being breast cancer awareness month, many people have questions about how a cancer diagnosis, of any kind, affects their ability to receive a kidney transplant. Dr. Scantlebury covers the information those awaiting transplant need to know, as well as the stages of kidney deterioration that lead you to starting dialysis and being put on the transplant list. She also provides information as to why different medications might work differently for different people, and discusses the number one worst thing a transplant patient could do to their new kidney.
