Speaker 2:

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Carganella Online Variety Entertainment Podcast. Here's your host, Paul Carganella.

Speaker 1:

Hello everyone and welcome.

Speaker 2:

We're starting.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 2:

I need a warning.

Speaker 1:

Welcome to CoV. This is the online variety show in which we explore so many different entertainment offerings like music, poetry, storytelling, special guest interviews and every once in a while, we get to do a travel blog, and Jamie and I we want to take you on our recent trip to New York. It's been a couple of months, but we've got plenty of pictures and videos to share with you. We're so excited.

Speaker 2:

Yes, this is a good trip.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, welcome back to the CoV, Jamie.

Speaker 2:

Thank you, it's been a minute.

Speaker 1:

It has. Now tell us why do we go to, how often and why do we go to New York?

Speaker 2:

Why and which I got to keep up with these H's. Okay, I'll do my best. Well, I used to live in New York. I went to NYU and came back to California and sometimes I miss it. I would never want to live there again because it's just crazy and a constant hustle, but it's so much fun to visit so we try to go every year. We hit all of our old favorite places. There's a lot of history there, with Paul and I our first kiss. You know all these places that have their imprint on our memory and it's just fun to kind of go back there and you just feel the energy and so many great places to eat and that's a good time.

Speaker 1:

We were friends for a couple of years before she moved out there. She transferred. We met in junior college, Then she transferred to New York, but we didn't start dating until she was actually living in New York and I was living in Long Beach at the time. So the first year and a half of our relationship was long distance. Every holiday season we like to try and get out there.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, christmas is the best time. I mean not because it's that makes me sound touristy, but it really is. It's super magical and there's twinkly lights everywhere. Inside outside Saks, fifth Avenue is like a whole vibe and there's, you know, carolers and clop-clopping of Christmas horses and Central Park and sometimes snow and you get your Pico and a little scarf.

Speaker 1:

Christmas horses, the clop-clopping, all right, well, we're going to take you through our recent trip, as I just mentioned, and but we also had an additional mission this time around. You see, one of my favorite movies is called the Adjustment Bureau, and one of the scenes was filmed in a dive bar in Brooklyn.

Speaker 2:

Red Hook Brooklyn.

Speaker 1:

Called the Ice House and we visited on our trip last year. I actually have some props from the movie that I won in an auction years ago and we took those props back to the bar on our trip last year and took some pictures sitting where Matt Damon was sitting using the props that he used in the film.

Speaker 2:

That's one of my favorites too. We were totally nerding out.

Speaker 1:

When the Adjustment Bureau came out in 2011,. It immediately became one of my favorite movies of all time. I loved so many of the main elements. I love New York City, I love Fedoras, I love Matt Damon, emily Blunt and that first scene between the two of them. Are you a registered New York voter?

Speaker 2:

Do I sound like a man?

Speaker 1:

Soon after it was released, I found an online auction house called PremierePropscom that was auctioning off props, set pieces, costume pieces from the movie, and I was able to get my hands on a couple of really cool things. I do remember the scene in the bar where David was trying to remember Elise's phone number and Harry came in. They had a conversation. He ended up giving him a ferry ticket.

Speaker 2:

Your entire world just turned upside down and you're thinking about it.

Speaker 1:

I actually won the auction for the hero pen that David uses in the scene to try to remember her number. He's sitting there twiddling it and one of the tickets the hero tickets that Harry hands David at the end and says meet me on the boat, the only 4pm boat. Well, thanks to the miracle of the Google machine, I was able to find out what bar they filmed it at and I'm going to head out there this weekend. I'm going to take my pen and my ferry ticket and I'm going to sit where David tried to remember Elise's phone number. I'm going to ride on a napkin and I'm going to make Jamie hand me the ticket and we'll see if we can recreate the scene this weekend.

Speaker 1:

We are sitting in the bar where they filmed this scene of the adjustment bureau and I'm sitting in the spot.

Speaker 2:

See a little toucan sign. There's that one right there. And in the movie David Norris, played by Matt Damon, is sitting here with this actual pen.

Speaker 1:

This is the pen from one of the two. And he gets a ticket and this is the ticket from the mirror and I have brought the pen.
