My friend Jordan Weyker, Doctor of Physical Therapy is back and educating us on a topic that impacts so many, but we don’t talk about it…it’s private and personal-  incontinence.

It is believed that ¼ of all women have urinary incontinence and only 20% of the ¼ seek out professional help.

If we look at men and women, it is believed that 1 in 3 people will have some type of incontinence.

After menopause, women produce less estrogen. Estrogen improves muscle mass and strength; it increases collagen and connective tissues which is important for muscle health and muscle performance. Having less estrogen will decrease the efficiency of the pelvic floor muscles, the bladder lining and the urethra health. This decrease in estrogen can then be a large factor in incontinence if we don’t retrain or strengthen our pelvic floor and core control.
