With the crackle of the police scanner, Lesia’s heart broke in an instant. She didn’t need the details or the long-awaited knock on the door to tell her that her son was gone. Somehow she just knew. DJ Smith was found on the railroad tracks in Dorchester County on August 11, 2018. How he got there and who was responsible was unknown - a puzzle with many missing pieces. Before this, Lesia had always been content to leave the investigative work to her husband, Eric, who worked for the solicitor’s office. Now, she would find herself in a new role - investigating the suspicious death of her only son.

FITSFiles is a true crime and corruption podcast hosted and produced by fitsnews.com. We’re the crew that broke the Murdaugh Murders crime and corruption saga - and America’s ‘Cheer Incorporated’ sex abuse scandal.  FITSNews is an independent, tenacious media outlet covering the intersection of crime, justice, politics and corruption in South Carolina - and beyond.

FITSFiles explores real cases from a journalistic perspective - uncovering layers of truth lurking just beneath the surface, offering exclusive interviews and insights, providing critical background and context and revealing previously unreported details that immerse you in the stories.

We are fierce advocates for justice and accountability - dedicated to bringing you the story beyond the headlines.  FITSFiles is probing, thought-provoking … and always independent and unapologetic.
