Remember those moments where you just couldn't seem to find the right word to express your feelings, and yet somehow managed to get your point across? Those are the Gen X moments we'll be exploring today. We'll be navigating through our unique and sometimes bizarre ways of dealing with life's curveballs- be it disciplining our not-so-kid-anymore kids, dating in the digital era or the perennial struggle of getting to work on time. Also, we'll be chuckling over our challenges with the world wide web and our adorable faith in pro-wrestling.

Ever washed your sneakers as a ritualistic rite of passage? That’s just one among the many quirky tales from our youth we'll be reminiscing over. Speaker 1:

What up, what's going on? Welcome to the Come On, you Know Podcast. This is my very first episode. I'm your host, dez. I'm excited. I'm very excited. I want to share my thoughts, my life, things that I go through on a daily with you all, and it'll be fun. It'll be fun. I'm going to throw a little bit of analysis in with my observations. I think I'm a pretty smart guy. I say pretty smart things, but I say them to myself, so I want to share them with you now. So that's what the podcast is going to be about Just my everyday goings-ons, experiences, and we'll have guests, have a co-host, we'll do all of that. I'm a failed comedian, multiple hobbyists, so it's going to be funny. It's going to be fun. I'll take you on my fun journey. I know everyone has journeys, but mine is better, mine is a little bit more fun, so we'll do that Anyway. So welcome to the first episode. Thanks for joining. I'll hop to it. I have a few things on my mind And so this episode I want to talk about Gen X, and so I am a Gen X on myself.

Speaker 1:

We're pretty much a forgotten generation, if you will. I don't really hear much about, as you hear, you know about millennials or whatever they called, and other generation after them, and then boomers. You hear about them because it's easy to say boomer, so you kind of remember it, but no one really talks about Gen X. So I'll just do a little deep dive from my perspective, stuff that I do and think about and how I react to things as a Gen Xer. So you know, and if you agree, let me know. I guess I don't know how it works. I don't have much. I don't really listen to podcasts, i don't have a background in podcast etiquette, so just bear with me and I'll bear with you. Nonetheless, come on, you know, let's do it. Anyway, a couple of things about Gen X. This is what I want to say.

Speaker 1:

So, cookies, cook with some of those cookies, not the chocolate chip or Oreo or whatever The internet. Cookies, like what? who needs cookies? Like, why are you asking me to accept your cookies? It sounds more like a bribe. You know what I mean. Like, what is that? I don't even know what it is. Get out of my face. Is it oatmeal, raisin, chocolate chip? Is it Oreo? Is it macadamia nut? No, get out of my face, i don't want. I don't know what it is Cookies out of here, whatever, anyway. So, like you know, we're a little bit older but we still think we're young. And we see you walking down the street and we're about to bump into you. We're going to do the straight up Allen Iverson crossover when you boom, boom, dodging you a little bit And I will knock it out. So don't judge us, maybe a little bit harsh on the knees, but we're crossing you up. Get out of here.

Speaker 1:

Wrestling So I was thinking about this. To us, wrestling is real. We grew up in that prime era of wrestling WWE, wwf, etc. But we think it's real. Like dude, you getting smacked in the face with a chair, That's real. We will fight tooth and nail to defend our position about wrestling being real. You know, we kind of know it's predetermined in our heads, but no, it's real. It's real.

Speaker 1:

So present day issues, social issues, political issues, whatever you want to call it. So we don't have an expansive vocabulary. I don't know if that's a word. You know it's a word. We don't really know. We're not gonna be like blah, blah, blah and we think the judgment tool of the partisan ball I went like dude is whack.

Speaker 1:

What do you think about that? What do you think about this new policy. What was whack? See this whack. What was trash, what was garbage? That's what we say. We don't have to. We don't have no super duper monologue with mad source words Get out of here, you know. So therapy, we don't know what that is Moving on.

Speaker 1:

So we are at the age where we have teenage to adult children, right. So it's kind of awkward how we discipline them. We're on the fence. We are the generation that we got punched in the face Straight up. So we know you can't kind of do that now. So it's like dude, i want to hit you with a phone book. You're talking on a smack, but that's what. There's no phone books around. So lucky you Anyway dating.

Speaker 1:

So if you, if you anyone around or over 42, we know what to do. We know what to do. It's no confusion. We just want to act like we're confused because everyone wants to act like they're confused. We know who needs to ask who out. We know who needs to do what, who needs to open what door, who needs to call who. Like we do, we just want to like, blend in with all the blah blah.

Speaker 1:

But Gen X, someone over 42, around that age, we know exactly what to do. So I would say don't let us fool you. But I'm not going to give trade secrets out. So you know, let me know if you, if you agree, being late to work with late to work, because if you're around that age Gen X age you've probably been doing what you are doing for at least over 10 years, so you're over it by now. I'm not, i'm not coming to work on time. Over it, traffic's always an excuse. There's that. So we actually cared about stuff about 10 years ago. I'll throw that in there.

Speaker 1:

So a little hip hop tidbit Eminem We like Eminem, but not a fan of the beard. We don't know who you are with that beard, eminem, take it off, go shave it Like. You're not Eminem with that beard, you're like some other dude Anyway. So we will still fight. Although we're probably over 30% body fat, you know what I mean We'll still try to take it to you Got a little pudge, but you know we'll still meet you outside All that.

Speaker 1:

So beef when you say beef, it's not just food for us, you gotta be careful what you talk about. It's like beef is a thing, that's a thing. Anyway, we don't, we don't know about that. Talk it out stuff. It's like, dude, i'm meeting you at the playground three o'clock, three, 15 monkey bars, you and me You know what I'm saying, so that we know about house parties.

Speaker 1:

You know, we know about. You know you have like 21 dollar bills and you put a $10 bill over it and looks like you, straight up, you got Monet, you know. So we wash out sneakers or tennis shoes, scrape them joints with a toothbrush, like cleaning them is like a sacred ritual. We would pass it down. But I don't know these kids nowadays. But you know, just let me know if you agree. You know, that's, that's just how we roll Anyway.

Speaker 1:

So our parents, you know bullying, this is how we dealt with bully. Our parents, hey, you better fight that bully or fight me, and you live with your parents. So that would be a ongoing fight. So they would also say stuff to us like, hey, what are you cooking tonight? Like what? Yeah, fight that bully, come cook night's over, anyway. But we know stuff about noodles and noodles, cds, tapes, good old Nintendo. We don't know what the word offensive means. We know what the word offense means, but you know, we got that covered anyway. So I wanted to talk to you about Gen X, and I just had these ideas, and as I come up with more ideas, i'll let you know, but I think I think that is a very descriptive characteristic of my generation. You know, we're dope, we're stuck in the middle, we're like that sandwiched generation. You know what I mean. But so yeah, until next time, just keep rocking that 30% body fat with pride. Gen X is So, keep it real And that's all that.
