Speaker 1:

We made it through another week. It's Friday, I guess. If you're listening to this podcast on the day it was released, it's Friday. Maybe you're listening on a Monday or two, I don't care when you're listening. Welcome, and I'm glad you're here on the Healthy Church Staff Podcast.

Speaker 1:

My name is Todd Rhodes, I'm one of the co-founders over at chemistrystaffingcom and today, to close out the week, we're going to talk to something that's really close to my heart, and it's the power of lifelong learning. As a matter of fact, I titled the episode. The episode title for this podcast is when you Stop Learning, you Stop Leading. Now, I don't know if that's exactly true. Can you lead if you stop leading? I don't know if that's exactly true. Can you lead if you stop learning? Yeah, you can lead out of the knowledge that you have, but I find that great leaders have this constant thirst to continue, not only to learn things that help them grow spiritually, but help them grow as a leader as well. And I know you may be thinking, todd, look, I already have a degree, or maybe two. Sometimes we have talked to pastors that have three and four degrees. I've got the degrees. I'm busy leading my church. Why do I need to keep learning, and I'm here to tell you that learning isn't just about degrees, it's not about certifications. It's about growth and curiosity and actually staying relevant in a rapidly changing world. Now research shows us that lifetime learning is linked to numerous benefits, including increased job satisfaction, better mental health and really, bottom line, a longer, more fulfilling life. And for church leaders, the benefits are even greater.

Speaker 1:

Life learning can help you in four different ways. It can help you become a better communicator, whether it's preaching or teaching or simply having conversations with your congregation Effective communication it's absolutely essential for ministry, and lifelong learning can help you refine your communication skills and connect with people more deeply. So it helps you become a better communicator. It also, secondly, helps you stay ahead of the curve, particularly in our culture. The world is constantly changing, and so is the church. Now don't get me wrong truths don't change, but the way that we do and communicate those truths do in our culture. So by staying up to date on new trends in technology and cultural shifts, you can ensure that your ministry remains relevant and impactful. So it can help you become a better communicator. It can help you stay ahead of the curve. It can also and this is important, it can also help you expand your perspective. So learning exposes you to new ideas. It exposes you to different viewpoints, to diverse experiences. It can help broaden your understanding of the world and become an even better, more effective, more empathetic leader. And then, finally, it can recharge your passion.

Speaker 1:

If you've been in ministry for a while, perhaps there's been a time or two where you just get stuck in a rut. I know, I've been there and lifelong learning can help reignite that passion. It can help spark your creativity and it can inspire you to try new things. So how do you go about making lifelong learning a part of your life? Here's a few tips. Read widely. Books are great. I know a lot of pastors read a lot of books but also articles, blog posts, whatever sparks your interest. Take courses online in person Countless opportunities to learn new skills and explore new topics, and these don't all have to be ministry related or church related.

Speaker 1:

Learning new hobbies, those kind of things are also areas where you can continue to learn, and all that learning in one way, shape or form is going to help your leadership. I'm a big fan of conferences and workshops. I think you can go to too many at times, but at the same time. Pick one good conference, one good workshop that's in your area every year. Connect with other church leaders, gain some fresh insights and stay up to date on kind of ministry trends. Another way you can learn is maybe find a mentor or a coach. Learn from somebody who's been there before and can offer guidance and support. That's one of the things that I do in my role at Chemistry Staffing as one of the co-founders is, if you need a mentor or a transition coach or somebody that you just need somebody that's been there, done that to come alongside of you. You can reach out to me anytime and we can talk about setting up a mentor or coaching plan. Reach out to me at podcast at chemistrystaffingcom.

Speaker 1:

But it also helps you to be more curious and open-minded. So approach learning with this kind of sense of wonder and a willingness to challenge your assumptions. That will really help you not get stuck in that rut. As we wind down here today, remember learning is a journey. It's not a destination. It's about constantly growing and evolving and really becoming the best version of yourself. So here's the bottom line Life long learning is not just a good idea. It's really, I think, my opinion, my two cents. It's essential for healthy, impactful leadership. So embrace your curiosity, invest in your growth, watch your ministry and your life flourish.

Speaker 1:

Now. If you're feeling stuck, you're looking for ways to level up your leadership. As I said, I do some coaching and some mentoring as well in my work as one of the co-founders of chemistrystaffingcom. Reach out to me anytime if you'd like to talk about some coaching or some resources to help you thrive in your own ministry. You can reach out to me anytime. Podcast at chemistrystaffingcom. And I hope this episode really does inspire you to kind of embrace that transformative power of lifelong learning. All right, hope you have a great weekend. If it's not the weekend, hope you have a great rest of your day and evening. Keep growing, keep learning, keep leading and I will talk to you again on the next episode of the Healthy Church Dad Podcast. Thanks so much.
