What if holidays weren't just about joy and celebrations but also marked by haunting tragedies? On this episode of the Double A Club, we explore the darker side of festive days, starting with the Stardust nightclub fire in Dublin in 1981, which turned Valentine's Day into a nightmare for 48 souls and left 200 injured. We dive deeper into Valentine's Day woes with tales of the 1929 massacre and a 1945 bombing in Prague, before highlighting the heart-wrenching 1913 Christmas tragedy in Michigan, where a false fire alarm led to a deadly stampede that claimed 73 lives, including 59 children. And yes, we even discuss the absurdly awkward 1978 Star Wars holiday special.

In another twist, imagine hearing what sounds like a firecracker on your flight, only to discover it's a failed underwear bomb. This episode recounts a harrowing yet strangely heartwarming incident on a flight from Amsterdam to Michigan, where passengers displayed unexpected compassion by saving the would-be bomber from further injury after his device malfunctioned. Reflect with us on this surprising act of human empathy amidst chaos. Stay tuned for more gripping stories in our next episode and share your thoughts at doubleaclubpodcast@gmail.com.

You are listening to the Double A Club and this is your host, ny Boom, and my co-host, big Daz. We'll be talking about trending topics in healthcare and basically, just as a disclaimer just to let the listeners know that this is just basically on our opinions and speculations and I hope you guys enjoy the show. Let's start off and kick off with our first topic.

Speaker 2:

These holidays, sometimes these holidays don't bring good things, man.

Speaker 3:

I don't think any of the holidays ever did, but we're still changing ourselves. There was no holiday that became a holiday because of happiness. They became a holiday. After they became a holiday, they turned into happy holidays.

Speaker 2:

So in 1981, there was a nightclub in Dublin Ireland called the Stardust yeah, and there was a fire that started on the roof working its way down, working its way down, and the people inside that were partying did not know about the fire until the roof began to collapse.

Speaker 3:

Oh, so that's when, that's where that saying goes, the roof is on fire.

Speaker 2:

On fire, 48 people. 48 people died and 200 injured and all. I'm sorry dad didn't mention this, but the 1929 famous Valentine Massacre, the bombing in Prague in 1945 and this 1981 stardust fire all happened on Valentine's Day.

Speaker 3:

ah, so they're all Fire. All happened on Valentine's Day. Ah, so they're all Valentine masters.

Speaker 2:

Basically, a lot of blood. On Valentine's, there's a lot of love. Hey, red is the color that is probably why that day is all red. Yeah, huh.

Speaker 3:

That's insane is probably why that day is already.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, absolutely. So I'm gonna talk about Christmas now. These are incidents that happen on Christmas Day. So yeah, in 2004, a 9.1 earthquake hit the west coast of Sumatra.

Speaker 3:

The quake shifted the earth's plates in the ocean creating a tsunami that hit the Indian Ocean, killing 230,000 people.

Speaker 2:

Dang, I ain't gonna let that happen. Mm-hmm. They have done some movies about this, this, this, this um, this day, this tsunami, and Even watching the movie, it's just, it's scary just to imagine being in something like that, like yo dude, like there's nothing you can do, just stay there and pray.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, you're right, there's absolutely nothing you can do, just pray. It's hard, yes, it is, it's powerful.

Speaker 2:

Yes, it is, it's powerful. Yes, but think about it the tsunami that came from.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, it came from the earthquake. The earthquake fucking hit the place, the water came up and yeah, that's good mother nature. That bitch is broke and she's powerful.

Speaker 2:

Another incident In 1913, families of minors in Michigan enjoy a party when someone screams fire. Enjoy a party when someone screams fire. People began to run to the exit, trampling anyone in the way. 73 people died, 59 were killed. Oh sorry, 59 of them were kids. Oh wow, 73 people died. 59 of them were kids. Oh wow, 73 people died. 59 of those were kids Damn where was that? In Michigan.

Speaker 3:

Oh, sounds like a P Diddy party. Damn, that's pretty crazy.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, cause you would think something like that happens, you'll grab your kids and run. Nah, they didn't grab no kids, they just started running over them.

Speaker 3:

Jesus Christ, that's people so.

Speaker 2:

So one of the worst things that ever happened on Christmas Day was a holiday special that Star Wars did. That was based on Chewbacca's family and how they celebrate Christmas, and the reason why I say that is because, if anyone has ever seen this show, the first 10 minutes of the show is just grunting and howling and other animal noises, with no subtitles explaining what they're saying. The family show ends with I think with that Diahan Carroll performing with Chewbacca's grandfather, who they call Itchy, and this performance was very central for a 1978 family show between a human and Chewbacca. So you can just imagine that Itchy, grandpa Itchy, was getting a little touchy-feely with Miss Carol On live TV.

Speaker 3:

I don't remember that what year was that 1978?

Speaker 2:

You wouldn't remember, you wasn't born, I don't even remember. I would have been like two years old, but I think you know. You could probably pull it up on YouTube. Yeah yeah, good luck on that. I tried to because this was a massacre. So one of the funniest stories that ever happened on Christmas was a bomber that took a flight from Amsterdam to Michigan in the year 2009. And the reason why I say this is the funniest is not because he's bombing airplanes. That's not funny. That's not what I'm clowning about. What I'm clowning about is what happened to this guy. Let me get into it. So this man concealed a bomb in his underwear.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, sorry to tell this, but go ahead, keep going.

Speaker 2:

Passengers on the flight reported hearing a firecracker noise on the flight reported hearing a fire cracker noise on the flight and it turned out to be the detonator in his pants. Failing, failing, failing, it didn't blow. What it actually did was it bursted into flames, burning his crotch. The passengers, the passengers in the fight, had to save this guy From burning his balls off, even though he was there to kill everybody.

Speaker 3:

Yep, yeah, that sounds familiar. That's funny. The compassion of people.

Speaker 2:

You know for real. Seriously, that's crazy.

Speaker 1:
