E1: James During - Ditching boring accounting to successfully co-founding a beer business
Jul 30, 2023 Season 1 Episode 1
Luke Suddards

James During is one of three co-founders behind CoBru, a beer business, but not just any beer business. CoBru leverages the power of a community, bringing people together through sporting events to create memorable experiences.

James has experience leading, as he was deputy head boy at his high school and even lectured at the University of Cape Town for a year. After successfully earning his chartered accountancy accreditation whilst in Minneapolis at KPMG, he came to the realisation of two very important things: accounting and auditing were not for him, and he got a taste for life outside of South Africa.

His destination of choice was the UK, arriving in June 2016, which proved bad timing and caused his new London adventure to get off to a bit of a bumpy start.

He’s a great friend and has been an older brother kind of figure for me, who I've been able to seek advice from on a multitude of topics. He’s an all round good guy, is super smart, and has a razor-sharp wittiness. I’m really happy and excited to have James on as the first guest.
