I'm David Conway, your host for today's episode, and you know I've met people in my life that were afraid to even go in to their garages. I don't know if you're one of those people, but if you are, you're in for a treat. Today We've got a great guest, tom Moss from Garage Experts. Tom, welcome to the podcast.

So Garage Experts is the company that goes into your garage to transform it so that you want to spend more time in there. Garage Experts is a national company. I own the franchises in Fort Lauderdale, boca, and we do epoxy flooring for your garage floor and we do cabinets and different storage devices, storage solutions for your garage.

So it's not just the floors, you're doing the cabinets, you're helping with the overall organization of the garage.

Yeah, you do. Cabinets, overhead racks, shelving, any sort of storage solutions. We can figure out what those are for you, whether for your bikes, your paddleboards, anything we can help you figure out how to store it.

So tell the listeners a little bit about your journey. How did you get into the business?

Speaker 2: 1:46

Well, I have many years in customer service retail clothing. My family owns a retail clothing stores catalog business Moss and Op and I spent over 30 years in that, david, dealing with retail customers and focusing on customer service in the high-end clothing trade. That's where I really learned my ability to manage people and manage a business and how to make people happy. So that was my prior career and I decided I wanted to get out of that and do something different and I chose the service industry and garage experts.

I guess, just like retail, service is probably the most important thing about what you do, right?

Speaker 2: 2:38

It is. It's still extremely customer service-based. That is really the most important thing that all my customers are happy. And this day and age, with Google reviews and a lot of competition and everything, the most important thing you can do is make your customers happy.

So you've been in the business for a while now. For someone that's thinking about doing their garage, are there any myths or misconceptions about the industry that are out there?

Speaker 2: 3:10

So first I'll say that slightly up your question. If they're thinking about doing it, it is sometimes a challenging task and we are there to help them with that. Depending on how much is in their garage, if you just bought a house, it's brand new, it's a piece of cake. But if your garage has years and years of clutter and additions and everything, it can be challenging. It can help you about the only myths or misconceptions I know of.

There's a lot of discussion nowadays about the residence materials you put on your floor. Garage experts is a manufacturer. We manufacture all the materials in our Texas factory and we have been for 12 years or more. And if you go to our factory, our main office there's one in Anaheim and there's one in Texas you will see men, women, walking around the hallway in white coats. So we have scientists there walking around doing crazy experiments with residence material, which allows us to have achieved probably the best product out there to put on your floor and to know what is the best. We make a variety of different types of materials to go on the floor, from epoxies to polyurea to polyaspartic. The system we put down is the epoxy base that binds into the cement. Then we distribute the flake and the top coat is a polyaspartic, which is far and away the best thing you put as a clear top coat.

Yeah, it's unreal how much actually goes into it when you're not focusing on the business and the science which you just shared. What are you doing for fun? What are you doing in your free time?

So, david, I have a beautiful family of three kids, two of them in high school, one is now up in college. So I like to spend a lot of time with my kids and my wife doing the usual things I am mechanically inclined to always have been one of the reasons I went into this business. I'm really a big car nut. I go to car shows. I love anything mechanical which takes me to different type racing events car racing things like that so I think that's what I do for fun. Those are the majority of them.

It sounds like fun things and I'm not the mechanical guy, so that's why I need guys like you, Tom, to come into my home and help me with that sort of stuff.

That's what we're here for, david. Actually, my wife works with me in the business. We do probably 45-50 percent of our businesses cabinets GarageX, which makes a great cabinet product for the garage. She has experience in interior design and she has taken on the design of the cabinets over the last four years or so, so she's now become an expert at it and really loves it. So if you're challenged in what to do with your garage, you can just turn to us and we will work one-on-one with you.

You've obviously come from a very successful career in retail. You're doing well now, but we all have our story. Anything in your life that you maybe overcame personally, that now maybe has made you stronger or helped you become more successful.

I'd say probably going to this business is probably the biggest thing. I had been in a very established business with my family and decided I wanted to get out and jumped out on this limb to establish this business and work in the rather crazy service business. It was a big challenge for me and my family, but it's now to a point where I'm very happy I did that. Things are going very well. So I would say that was probably the biggest challenge and I'm very happy that I did it.

You mentioned earlier. There's a lot of companies out there for consumers to choose from. Give me something a little different or something you believe set you apart from some of the other companies out there.

I could really go on for hours really. But GarageXperts is local service Gina myself with national support.
