Speaker 1:

Welcome, welcome everyone, to Local Living, a community podcast for Palm Beach to Parkland. I'm David Conway, your host for today's episode. We have a local resident with us today. She lives right here in Parkland. Her name is Ruchi Kora. She is the proud owner of a wonderful boutique right up the road in Boca Raton. The name of the boutique is Ruchi Ruchi. Thanks for joining us today.

Speaker 2:

Thank you, David, for giving me this opportunity today. It's a pleasure to have you here.

Speaker 1:

It's my pleasure to have you. Just want to start out. Why don't you tell the listeners a little bit more about your business?

Speaker 2:

Okay, so I have a boutique located in Boca Raton. It's called Ruchi. We carry ladies apparel and accessories. We also carry brightened bags and jewelry. Ruchi has another interesting section inside the store which is called Melange Bar, where you can create your own fragrance. You can make your own custom perfume, lotion, bed and body mist, body butter, different kind of things. The best part of it is that it is your own custom scent and you get to name it. We host several locations at Melange Bar, such as birthday parties, bridal shower, baby shower, girls night, couples night. We do golf, tennis, marjong get-togethers as well, so you can bring your own food and drinks, we can set you up and you can have a host of private party for your guests.

Speaker 1:

So I said boutique, but obviously you're much more than a boutique over there. How did you get into the business? Tell the listeners a little bit more about your journey.

Speaker 2:

Well, I have been working in fashion industries since very long time. The only difference is that I have been working on the administration side. I have been working for about 18 years. My job description included but was not limited to accounts, payable accounts, receivable, payroll data processor, customer service, etc. So I worked for a chain of stores for who I did these services and I always saw the boutiques, I saw the merchandise and then there I always wanted to create a name for myself in fashion. So I hope I can introduce a brand called Ruchi one day and have a huge following for it.

Speaker 1:

Well, I've been in there and it's extremely impressive. There always seems to be people in there and they seem really engaged. So can you tell me any myths or misconceptions that people may have about either retail or fashion, or even you, who was in another part of the industry prior, maybe something that's a little different than you had imagined?

Speaker 2:

Definitely there is a myth in the retail industry, which is e-commerce is the new way to be successful in business. Yes, I believe it's extremely important to have an online presence, which I'm currently working on for my own business, but it is important to have small boutiques where customers can come and actually see and touch the fabric, whatever they want to do. This is not the only way they come to shop at my boutique, but also they need an honest opinion. So, like in my store, they come, they interact with us, they like that socializing aspect, they get to know the community. So they come and talk to us and they want to buy something. But they want our honest opinion that, yes, it looks good on you, yes, we don't. So I am creating a family here where people feel extremely comfortable and happy to be in my store, where they don't get nervous and they are not pressured to buy anything. So we are very happy to cater all my customers and my employees are wonderful. They do this wonderful job as well.

Speaker 1:

I love that answer so much. You know product is important, but so is experience, right? It sounds like you. You offer so much more than the product itself. You offer that experience.

Speaker 2:

Definitely, I think that's the right way to go.

Speaker 1:

So when you're not working and I know you're working a lot, I happen to know you have a family when you're not working, what do you do? For fun, ruchi, tell us a little bit more about you.

Speaker 2:

Alright. So when I'm not working definitely like everybody else, I'm love spending time with my family. I have been married for 18 years and I'm a mother to two wonderful children. When I'm not working, you'll often find me cooking for my kids, doing my house chores, you know, cuddling with my babies and watching a movie with them. Whatever my kids want to do, I would jump in and do that. And we also have a pet. She's a French Bulldog, she's a princess in our house and definitely she knows how to get my attention. So there you go. You know I answered your question. I think I am a home person and I love spending time with my family.

Speaker 1:

And I think a lot of our listeners will be able to relate to that answer you just gave. You know, it sounds like you live in your best life, but we all have challenges, we all have hardships. Can you maybe share with our listeners something that you personally have been through, that you feel that you're better for it, you're stronger for it?

Speaker 2:

You know, david, starting a new business is a challenge in its own. It takes a lot of courage to do that. That's why I have a lot of respect for small business owners. There are both personal and professional challenges involved when you start a business. Personally, I knew I will have to commit more than 100% to my business. Being a new business owner, managing time is my biggest challenge. I work seven days a week, don't forget I'm still a mother of two young children who needs my time as well. So I guess it's a struggle, but I try my best to balance my time. On the other hand, professionally, starting up a new business is not easy. It takes a lot of courage to keep looking forward, as the new business takes time to pick up and establish. It takes time to get your name out there, but at the same time your expenses are piling up, yeah, and then finding a reliable employee and competing with other businesses are other aspects to it. So I just keep my head up, work hard and look forward to success.

Speaker 1:

Another great answer, ruchi, and I mean that sincerely. So what's one thing that you would like everyone to know about, Ruchi? And when I say Ruchi, I mean your business, ruchi, the boutique, ruchi shop.

Speaker 2:

Yes. So the one thing that you will definitely find at Ruchi shop is great merchandise, great styles and definitely you will get the best customer service. You will never be pushed to buy anything. You will get an honest opinion from me and from my employees at the store. We are here to create a family which definitely includes our customers. We want to have happy returning customers who love to be at Ruchi and refer us further for our quality services. Right now, at present, my business is going word of mouth, which is the best publicity I find. So please stop by at our store anytime between 10 to 5, monday through Sunday, and I will also request you to try and make one particular scent you like your own custom scent at perfume bar, and see how many memories it creates for you or how many laughs. It's a great experience. It's more than an experience. So come in and we are here to welcome you.

Speaker 1:

It's amazing how powerful smell is, right Scent, how emotional, what a response it can get for us.

Speaker 2:

Yes, people, always they create something. I can tell you, david, they just think of. Somebody made a scent the other day and she said it reminds me of my mother. It really takes you down the memory lane. Are you going to have a lot of laughs and giggles while making those things, especially when you are in a group? So that's why we love to host the parties.

Speaker 1:

So if someone wants to come by make their own scent or they want to see the beautiful fashions, please tell our listeners exactly where you're located, how they can find you or how they can contact you.

Speaker 2:
