Speaker 1:

Welcome, welcome everyone, to Local Living, a community podcast for Palm Beach to Parkland. I'm David Conway, your host for today's episode, and with us today we have the owner of All Dry Services of Parkland, dionne Jack. Dionne, welcome to the podcast.

Speaker 2:

Thank you, David, for having me.

Speaker 1:

Appreciate it. Yeah, my pleasure. So let's start. I know it says All Dry Services of Parkland. First off, you are professional restoration and cleanup experts and you don't just go to Parkland, you go all over. Is that correct?

Speaker 2:

Yeah, we serve as the Parkland and the Boca and the Coral Springs Palm Beach territory so we try and reach out to most of the surrounding areas in the Parkland vicinity.

Speaker 1:

Awesome. So tell our listeners a little bit about your journey. How did you get into the business? What were you doing before?

Speaker 2:

Prior to getting into the remediation and restoration business, I did real estate, so we purchased real estate, we developed real estate, we sold real estate and we also rented real estate. What got us into the remediation part of things is when we experienced some losses during COVID I also was the victim of a roof leak and we had some remediation challenges. And because of the cost associated with these challenges is what really inspired me to find out like how could I affect these changes? How could I do better to keep the cost of remediation and restoration services down?

Speaker 1:

So the roof leak came as a total surprise to you as an investor. Is that right? Yes, it did, and I'm guessing you paid a little too much to take care of that problem. So you figured out hey, I might be able to do this more effectively and more cost effective for the clients.

Speaker 2:

Yes, after dealing with the adjusters. There's so many moving parts. Then I got an insurance adjuster. After the adjuster came in, we had to deal with the remediation company and because of the lack of knowledge we had with remediation and restoration, we kind of took the advice of what the adjuster gave us. However, that didn't correspond. That didn't match up to the cost which the remediation company quoted us. So then I decided, hey, I need to learn about the details and the cost associated with remediation and restoration. That's when I learned more about the health damages and the health dangers associated with mold. And then after that it was us just trying to do everything we can to just live in a healthy environment and still keep costs low and affordable to us.

Speaker 1:

So I was going to ask you about myths or misconceptions you might hear, but I think from what you're saying, we all know if we have an emergency in our home, something floods, we have a fire, we know we need to call all dry services right, but mold and things we're not always aware of is that correct?

Speaker 2:

Yes. Well, there are some misconceptions that I've heard about as far as restoration. Firstly, I would like to say that some people think if they have like a water damage, for example, they can just dry the surface water up, maybe put some towels down, put some paper down, get a couple fans. However, this approach doesn't address the underlying problem. That can lead to further issues, like we talked about with mold, because if it's not dry at the proper rate and it's not dried in time, mold only takes 24 to 48 hours to start growing Right. And one of the other misconceptions or myths that I hear a lot is that most people think that they cannot file a claim to insurance because their insurance will either go up or the insurance company would drop them. So that's one of the biggest misconceptions and myths that have been dealing or seeing in the restoration industry.

Speaker 1:

So a lot of your clients have that fear that they're going to get, especially down here in Florida. They're going to suffer, get some backlash from their insurance companies. But that's not true if they have a real more problem. Is that correct?

Speaker 2:

Well, yes, well, what happened is that your insurance company don't just raise your premium or one person rate because of a claim. Insurance rates goes up based on several claims being filed. However, most people don't know that. They think it's just because they filed a claim, but for insurance to increase, there have to be several hundreds of claim file in a particular demographic. Your claim do not lead to your insurance going up, or necessarily your higher premium, just for one claim. That's not how insurance works.

Speaker 1:

We all love talking about the insurance going up, don't we?

Speaker 2:

Yes.

Speaker 1:

I know you're joking.

Speaker 2:

I think we want to stop talking about it now.

Speaker 1:

So I know that you're working all the time to provide good service to your clients and build your business. When you're not focused on all dry services of Parkland, what do you like to do, Dion? What do you do for fun, for recreation?

Speaker 2:

So when you say when I'm not focused, you mean when I'm sleeping. No, I actually think about restoration now. But no, I understand, so I'd be happy to share. I enjoy traveling, and when I can't travel, I like spending time with my family. I like taking my son to the beach, I like playing targets you with him. We run around the house, we chase each other Anything that can bring a smile to my son's face. I enjoy doing it. I enjoy cooking, I enjoy making family dinners, I enjoy organizing family gatherings, and these are just some of my favorite activities that I would like to do in my spare time.

Speaker 1:

So I know you're focused, like I said, on building your business. You've got a great life, great family. Are there any challenges or hardships you may have gone through that you can now say because of that, you may be a little stronger for it?

Speaker 2:

Challenges is yes, there have been many challenges, but I think the one challenge that stood out to me is growing up with a single parent mom. That was my biggest challenge. My father passed away before I was born, so my mom had to take the role of both parents. As I got older, my siblings came along and I realized that I needed to step up and help my mom, who didn't have all that. It took to raise three kids, and much less raise a man. So I wanted to ensure that my siblings also had the same opportunities as I did and they didn't have to lack for anything.

Speaker 2:

So now that I became a parent myself, I overcame this challenge by being a provider and a role model for my own son. What I've noticed is that getting married is just one thing, but staying married is more challenging than being married. So I wanted to just overcome this challenge by actually staying married and raising my son with both parents, making sure that we have a home with both parents and making sure that we could provide and making sure that the single parents home stopped with us and we continue to grow as a family doing things together. And that was one of my biggest challenges, I would say, growing up in life.

Speaker 1:

You broke the cycle. That's a beautiful message. Thank you very much for sharing that with us, Deon.

Speaker 2:

You're welcome, man, anything.

Speaker 1:

So what's one thing that you would like our listeners to know about your business?

Speaker 2:

One thing I would like our clients to know is that we try at all time to strive to provide in professional and affordable remediation services that we could reach all clients reach all clients' needs. It's not just about making money for us. We genuinely care about helping people. We're a family-owned business and we make sure that people can stay in their homes and improve their overall health through whatever remediation they need. As far as mold services, most people are afraid to do something or do anything at all, so we love to let them know that, hey, we are here, we are in your community. We don't need to just go all the way on social media. We like that personal touch where they can pick up their phone, they can call us, they will get myself, they will get my mom, they will get my wife, you will get somebody right there personally to address your concerns, your issues and provide excellent customer service where we can be one with you and not just making money.

Speaker 1:

So how can our listeners learn more? How can they contact you, Dionne?
