Jan 11, 2024 Season 1 Episode 8
Law Training Centre

Welcome to the Law Training Centre Legal Navigator Podcast with your host Rebecca Ogunmayun.

In this week’s episode, we’re delving into the new SQE route to qualification as a solicitor in England and Wales, and what this means for aspiring solicitors.

The Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE) is a single, national licensing examination that allows aspiring solicitors to qualify at a lower cost and with more flexible study methods and work experience opportunities. To qualify as a solicitor via the SQE route, learners need to satisfy four main elements:

  • Have a degree in any subject (or equivalent Level 6 qualification or work experience)
  • Pass both stages of the SQE assessment or be exempt
  • Have two years’ qualifying work experience
  • Pass SRA character and suitability requirements

Find out more about the SQE and our preparation courses here.

To discuss the SQE, Rebecca spoke to our wonderful guest speakers: Kevin Rogers (Partner at Wilson Browne Solicitors), Fatimah Zahrah (Executive Legal Assistant and SQE1 learner), Sunny Miah (Trainee Solicitor and SQE2 learner) and Katy Turquoise (Non-Legal Member of Employment and Social Security Tribunal and SQE1 learner).
