Speaker 1:

Thank you. How are you doing everybody? And welcome in to Wisconsin. Sports Time to go with Trage. I'm your host, trage, it is Monday, monday July 22nd, a fantastic Monday, july 22nd, here in the great state of Wisconsin or wherever you're tuning in. Who knows? Who knows, you might be up in Canada, I don't know. I don't know where you're at right now, but it should be a great day. It's a great day, great Monday. I know Mondays are a drag sometimes, but hopefully we can get through it together. Right, hopefully we can get through it together.

Speaker 1:

Lots of good stuff happening over the weekend there. Packer news we got Team USA in action. That was a little bit dicey there for Team USA. We're going to look at that a little bit today. And then also Brewers I mean Brewers back in action. Finally, it felt like it was forever since we watched the Brewers last play there. They took on the Twins over this last weekend. I want to be looking at that series there. There was a lot of offense and a little pitching, so I want to get into that series there.

Speaker 1:

So right away, right away, let's look at the Packers, because the Packers made a big move over the weekend. And before you ask, before you say to yourself well, did they make the Jordan Love deal? No, no, still way not Jordan Love. But I think this might be the kicker. This might be like okay, now we have the fuel, now we're going to make it happen. Right Now we're going to drive the car Because Kenny Clark signed a three-year $64 million extension with the Packers as of this weekend now.

Speaker 1:

So he's locked up with Green Bay. He's guaranteed $29 million in 2024. So a lot of the contract will be in his first season, in his first season of that deal, which good for the Packers. Good for the Packers in that Get most of that contract out of the way and then we work it a little bit down the road there. I think that opens up our door now for Jordan Love.

Speaker 1:

Because if you did not have an idea before of what you were going to sign Jordan Love for, and now you just all of a sudden go out and you get Kenny Clark, you make this big deal for Kenny, it just doesn't make sense to me. It doesn't make sense because you want to have that guarantee with Jordan Love like, hey, if it's going to be 280 million, right, if it's going to be 280, I want to know that before I'm going and making this deal with Kenny Clark now, because otherwise you might not have the money for love. So I think that love deal I would assume, I really I thought it was going to be this last week. I really had it pegged on the calendar there for last week. But I know I told you guys I was like we're going to come back Monday, we're going to be talking about Jordan Love deal. We're not talking about it yet. We're not talking about it yet, but I really do have that feeling it's coming this week.

Speaker 1:

I think that was just, you know, that little bit we needed to know before. That was that signing of Kenny Clark, and now we, we roll with it. We roll with it there. So Kenny Clark signs. Does that make you nervous? Does that make you nervous If you're green Bay?

Speaker 1:

Not because of the skill we know. Kenny Clark is a great defensive lineman, great defensive lin old, but I'm going to put my stat. I'm going to put my stat person I got. My wife is helping me with the show now. She's going to be looking up stats for me as I go along here. So she's going to be looking up.

Speaker 1:

Well, how old is Kenny Clark. I'm baffled. It's 28, 29. I think he's right along, right around that 28, 29 years old. He's 28 years old. 28 years old. There we go. 28 years old. So now we know, now we know Kenny Clark, 28 years old, so I mean still relatively younger. I guess not young. Young, but experienced. That's what you need sometimes, experience. So does it make you nervous out there? I'd love for, I'd love for you guys to let me know on that one, like I always tell you guys in the bio of the show it says send us a text message, click in on that, send us a text message. You know it sends you, it sends straight to our recording platform. But I'd love to hear from you guys what your thoughts are on the Kenny Clark deal, if it makes you nervous, if you're not worried about it where you're at with it there. I know a lot of people I saw out there were nervous because they're like well, what about Jordan Love now? Is what's going on with that contract? Right, we got Kenny Clark, now what's going on with the contract with Love? It really doesn't make me nervous because I don't. I really don't believe Brian Gutekinds is sitting there and saying to himself well, you know I'd rather have Kenny Clark than have a quarterback, right? I feel like I just got that feeling that you know they do say that the quarterback position is like the most important position in sports. I feel like we got our quarterback almost locked up, if not locked up if we're going to be dealing for Kenny Clark here Now.

Speaker 1:

Kenny Clark's been fantastic for Green Bay, I mean stat-wise. Looking at Kenny he throughout the years in Green Bay. Looking at last season there he had 44 combined tackles, 22 assists, 7.5 sacks solid year out of Kenny. Before that, four sacks in 2022. In 2021, same there. He has had productive season after productive season for Green Bay. So keeping him in there, keeping it locked down in the center of that defense, you got to love it.

Speaker 1:

So great stuff there coming out of Green Bay with Kenny Clark, but some not good, some not so good stuff that I heard coming out of this weekend and well, I'm not that big of a fan of Mike Ditka anyways, but Mike Ditka had something to say about the Green Bay Packers and the Green Bay Packers receivers, and this came out. He said the Green Bay Packers receivers and this came out. He said the Green Bay Packers have the worst wide receiver group in the NFL. They don't have a wide receiver one, or even a wide receiver two, just a bunch of wide receiver threes, wow. Well, I mean, wow, that's rough, that's rough, wow, that's rough, that's rough. So I guess for me, then I would just wonder how Jordan Love had such a good season last year. Is he just air mailing the ball around to a bunch of wide receiver threes and he's just trying to make this thing? Jordan Love's just okay, okay. So that debunks.

Speaker 1:

There's a lot of people out there who say Jordan Love is not a good quarterback. So if he's looking as good as Jordan Love did over 4,000 yards passing last season he looks that good with a bunch of wide receiver threes. That debunks. Everybody out there right now who is saying that Jordan Love stinks. That actually means that Jordan Love might be one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, because if he's doing this with wide receiver threes, what could he do with a one? What could he do with a two? Right, he probably brought a Super Bowl home last year, right? I mean, I feel like that's just a ridiculous take, because you're looking at a Packers team where you have analysts out there who are saying Dontavian Wicks could be a number one. Romeo Dobbs, christian Watson if he stays healthy, right, if he stays healthy, christian Watson could be a big one. Jaden Reed is another guy. He's going to start I believe he's going to start the training camp.

Speaker 1:

On the non-football injury list, not so concerned about that, but it really baffled me when I heard that, when I heard him make that statement, because I, okay, okay, okay, yes, they don't have a wide receiver one. They don't have a Justin Jefferson, they don't have a Jamar Chase, right. But show me the Packers receiving core and say that they aren't young yet, right? I mean, christian Watson is the oldest receiver in the room, right, he's one of the older receivers in the room. They brought in Bo Melton last year. Tell me you knew who Bo Melton was before he showed up in Green Bay? Had 218 yards through the air there in five games. Tell me you knew who Bo Melton was before he came to Green Bay, unless if you were a fan of him when he went to college, right, you had no idea who this guy was. Jaden Reed almost 800 yards through the air. Romeo Dobbs 674. Dontavian Wicks 581. Christian Watson 422. But you look at him. Nine games played. Nine games played. What that screams to me is yes, you're 100% correct. They don't have a wide receiver one.

Speaker 1:

You know why Justin Jefferson got so many yards with the Vikings? Yes, he's fantastic. He is fantastic. I'm not going to deny the talent of the guy. You know how many times I'll watch Kirk Cousins just chuck the ball up and say, oh, my goodness, I hope this gets there. Right, my wife is a diehard Vikings fan. Right. Right, my wife is a diehard Vikings fan. Right, it's kind of crazy. Right, we have those feuds come Sunday. We have those feuds sometime come Sunday. She doesn't like when I'm yelling about the Packers too much, but I mean, she even would notice. That kind of thing with Kirk Cousins is sometimes you just toss it up there and pray that Justin Jefferson would catch it right.

Speaker 1:

The thing with Jordan Love in this offense and the thing that I love about Jordan Love in this offense and the thing that I love about Jordan Love in this offense he's not reliant on one guy. He spreads the football out like he doesn't care. We watched Aaron Rodgers when he threw that first pass of the year against the Minnesota Vikings to Christian Watson. He never looked back at Christian Watson until like what? Week nine? It was that Dallas game. When Christian Watson went off in that game Didn't look back in his direction. He didn't trust him.

Speaker 1:

Sometimes having a wide receiver one in the room, a really good receiver, is great but it's also dangerous. It gets dangerous when it comes to crunch time because Aaron Rodgers Alan Lazard's coming across the field wide open. Where's Rodgers looking Double triple coverage down the field to Devontae Adams. If it wasn't Devontae it might change the story right. Same with a lot of his other quarterbacks. Look at Kirk Cousins. He loved his Justin Jefferson. When push came to shove, that was his guy. I think this opens up a new avenue.

Speaker 1:

And to say that they don't have a wide receiver one, I think that's baffling to me. I really do. I think Dontavion Wicks last season wasn't the most talked about receiver Green Bay had. But I have that. I just have that feeling with him that he could be a wide and easy and easy wide receiver two and maybe with some work, maybe with some work, he could be a wide receiver one. I really I do see that out of him. I think Romeo Dobbs is fantastic. I don't think enough people talk about Romeo Dobbs. I really do think that I think this Packers receiving core to, to the opposite of Mike Ditka. I believe there isn't enough people talking about this receiver core, because when they turned it around, when they found it in that second half of the season, it was like magic. It was Watching Love, watching these receivers the way that they run routes out there. I mean it was like watching. It was poetry. It was poetry right, some fantastic stuff out in the field.

Speaker 1:

So, yes, I will agree with Mike Ditka, they do not have a solidified wide receiver one. They don't. You have guys that you believe are your most reliable, but they don't have a number one guy right now. I believe they got a bunch of them that have a boatload of talent and a boatload of upside, and that's where I look at the Green Bay Packers right now, and I think the greatest thing that Green Bay did, they're allowing these receivers to grow with Jordan Love. This isn't a bunch of old vets working with Jordan Love. This is the Packers saying we can survive with Jordan Love, with a bunch of young guys, and we can make it happen, and that's what they did last season. So no, I look at the playoff run for Green Bay last season, going to Dallas just mopping the floor playing a game against the 49ers that still, I mean the Banders Carlson makes a field goal. I mean that game could have turned different. Then they would have played Detroit. We already beat Detroit in Detroit on Thanksgiving, so who knows what happens there. And then you play the Chiefs, a team that you beat in the regular season. Now, different circumstance, different stories, right, it could all have changed. But this young receiving core, I truthfully believe, is to the opposite of Mike Ditka's statement. There there is a lot of potential and a lot of love that I have for this team, not just because of Jordan Love, but because of these great receivers that I believe the Packers are slowly building up as we're going along here Love, love it, love it, love it there with Green Bay Packers and their receiving core.

Speaker 1:

So one more thing in the football talk before we move on here, and that is I saw a lot of people talking about it over the weekend your all-time favorite football movie, what is it right? What is your all-time favorite football movie? What is it Right? What is your all-time favorite football movie? And I, just I sat there and I was like what is mine, what is mine and I couldn't narrow it down. I had to get my top three. I had to get my top three. Autumn's getting her top three right now. She's getting her top three up right now of her favorite football movies. So I'm going to start out with mine. I got to go number one Draft Day. Draft Day is one of my favorite football movies to watch. Just the way that he shuffles around his picks, has the number one pick, trades away the future, gets all of his future picks back.

Speaker 1:

I loved it. Loved Kevin Costner that's who was the star of that movie. Loved every minute of that movie. It was hilarious, it made you laugh, it made you go like what? And then it made you laugh again. Right, it played with the emotions. Next up for me Longest Yard. I mean you got to have a comedy movie in there. Longest Yard was my comedy movie. I mean that movie is fantastic, right, why can't I be the kicker? Right, kicks it. That's why you know that. One of my favorite movies right there, longest yard. And then I gotta go rudy. I mean good old rudy, right, you gotta go with rudy in that last spot. Love me some, rudy, based on a true story. I just you know that's one of those ones that plays with your emotions like it's no other plays with your emotions, has some funny but also some realistic stuff in it there, and you can't hate on Rudy, so I love that one there. Autumn's got her top three. Autumn, you got your top three back there. What do you got for me?

Speaker 2:

I mean, I'm not really big into football movies, I'm not going to lie. But I will say I'm going to go more of a kid's version. The Game Plan with the Rock Just always love that movie. I know you're not a fan of this one, but I really like the necessary roughness. I find it hilarious. And then I'll go with the classic.

Speaker 1:

Remember the titans she's got some classics in there. Then she threw a disney one with the rock. Gotta love the rock in there too. Son of a gun gave somebody the the old uh, what they call it the people's elbow. That's what it, the people's elbow. That's what it is the people's elbow on WWE. You've got to be talking about that. So with that great stuff, great stuff there on the football scene. But before we move on, before we move on here and talk a little bit of Team USA basketball and the scare that they had, I want to mention some great sponsors of this fine program.

Speaker 1:

But with that little Team USA talk you guys know me, I love LeBron James I want to talk a little bit of Team USA. So we saw Team USA survive a scare against South Sudan and I got to be honest with you and this is no trying to take shots at South Sudan, but I'm going to be honest with you I could not tell you somebody who played for South Sudan before seeing this game, before seeing this game out there, I mean the USA team For a team that's been compared to I mean the Dream Team, right with Mike Magic Bird For a team that was compared to that. South Sudan gave them a scare and I'm pulling up the box score as we speak here, right here. It was a close one. It was a close one. It was a close one. Usa finished at 101 to 100 there. Lebron james had a layup late in that one that actually sealed the lead for him. Carleek jones had a triple double 14 points at half time for South Sudan 15 points, 11 rebounds, 11 assists in this one.

Speaker 1:

I can't say that I actually knew who he was before watching this game. I can't tell you that I knew who he was. I'm not going to say that this South Sudan team, they don't have good players on the team. All I know is from looking at the game, looking at the box, a lot of guys that I had no idea who they were, no idea who they were Pulling up the box score here. I mean they tried a different starting lineup in this one. I knew that Tried out a different starting lineup. I believe Devin Booker actually started this game for Team USA and LeBron with 23. Steph had 12. Anthony Edwards had 11. He scored late. Anthony Davis had 15 in this one.

Speaker 1:

Can you really compare this Team USA team to the Dream Team with games like this right now? Can you compare them? If you went shooting shooting-wise, I don't know if you have the best three-point shooter that the world has seen. Steph Curry, the best three-point shooter the world has seen, has seen right. Steph Curry, the best three-point shooter in the world has seen. So if he jumps in now, you have some talk right, but you still got Mike. He got Bird. Now it's a banged-up Bird, so that's a different kind of story. Then it's a banged-up Bird on that dream team. It's still Bird. So I mean you can't really shoot him down there. I mean, can you realistically sit there and say that this team is outright better?

Speaker 1:

No, I don't think so. I don't think, truthfully. You can sit there and say that this team is downright better than what we saw. This is not the new dream team. This is not the new dream team. Yes, is it a good roster? 1000%, 1000%. Yes, it is a great roster. I mean, when you got guys on that roster like Anthony Edwards, jason Tatum, devin Booker, joel Embiid, steph Curry, they're great. They're great. Right, kevin Durant ain't even there yet. So that doesn't really bode well for this team going against South Sudan. But should it have been that close? You know it's exhibition yet, so all the cards aren't all out on the table yet. It's not like you're playing for the medals right now, you're just in the exhibition game. But this is a team that, when you think about this, is better than the dream team.

Speaker 1:

Now, a lot of people's argument will be the NBA is more diverse now. So you have Giannis, you have Giannis, you have Jokic, you have Doncic, you have guys playing a little bit everywhere now, right, greece, serbia is another one there. Lots of different rosters now have NBA talents and have all-stars from the NBA on their rosters. But, man, I mean Team USA's got them all. Right, they have them all. This is outside of having Jalen Brown on it, which I know ticks off a lot of Boston Celtics fans, but outside of not having him on the roster. This is a team of all-stars right here, rookie sensations, all-stars, I mean. You look at, let's talk about Anthony Edwards for a second. I mean this is the next Michael Jordan, right? We all heard it, this is going to be the next Michael Jordan. So there shouldn't be this big of a competition. The way that we talk about this team was oh man, they're going to walk in, they're going to mop everybody, they're going to come home with the gold and that's going to be it. Right, like the Redeem team, the redemption team, right, similar to that.

Speaker 1:

Not seeing that so far, to be honest with you and I don't know if it makes you nervous heading into you know, once you get into the actual tournament there, it doesn't make you nervous. Me a little bit it does Because of a team like South Sudan who came out. They were firing, right. I'm not going to sit here and say that South Sudan is just this push-over crap team. I'm going to tell you that I forgot about them, right? I mean first team I think of when I think of foreign basketball team South Sudan? That's the first one that jumps to my mind. No, that's a team you forget about, but they pushed Team USA right to the brink of people thinking to themselves is this team really that good? Is there things that they need to work on yet? Is there little pieces here and there that could falter or, you know, hurt this team down the stretch? I believe so. I do. I really do.

Speaker 1:

I think they lack in lacking, I think they lack at times right now. I mean Derek White. Why did we bring Derek White Defense If you wanted offense? Why is Jalen Brown sitting at home? That one still makes me question. I mean look at Anthony Davis 15 points in that one great game. Bam out of Bayou four points Not a great performance out of Bam, but defensively they struggle. I mean South Sudan had 32 points in the second quarter, 32 points in that second quarter. If it wasn't for Team USA locking it up a little bit tighter there in the third, we might be talking about a different game. Because you look collectively across that game for South Sudan First quarter, 26 points, second quarter 32. 25 in the fourth. That's what made it close at the end. We could be talking about a whole different game right now, but we're talking about a win. We're talking about a whole different game right now, but we're talking about a win. We're talking about a gutsy win, but one that makes you nervous and I don't know, are you guys nervous? I'm a little nervous watching that, seeing something like that I know it's exhibition, so it doesn't really trouble you as much but something to keep an eye on, something to keep an eye on there with Team USA right now. So Team USA, like I said, they beat South Sudan, but it's a close one and a lot of people, a lot of people out there questioning this team now. So with that, I want to talk real fast, real fast.

Speaker 1:

I saw a stat the AP Top 25's greatest programs ever. So they took all of the numbers back to 1936, and they compiled them and they basically said how many times has this team been in the Top 25? So they took it all the way back to 1936 until present day. If you had to guess, the Badgers are on the list. But if you had to guess where they're sitting, where would you think? Where would you think? My initial thought before I saw the whole list, my initial thought was they got to be in the 20s. It seems like the Badgers sit 20 to 25 a lot. They sit in that range. They'll hover up and then they'll drop back down, but they always seem to sit in that range there. 23. 23 on the list, right above Ole Miss and Iowa for the rankings there. Not a bad spot. 23rd going all the way back to 1936. That means your program has been pretty consistent.

Speaker 1:

Now great, that's a different story. I mean you look at Alabama. They're number one, ohio State's number two, oklahoma's number three, michigan's number four, notre Dame's number five, usc's six Tied for seven Texas and Nebraska. 8th is Penn State or 9th is Penn State, 10th is Tennessee. A little bit more of the historic programs in there. I mean you look at USC and Texas. They've had some bad years over the past couple.

Speaker 1:

But you look before that, that's historic Nebraska. Up there too, nebraska used to be a historic program. Then they came to the Big Ten and it's like they suck now. I don't know what happened, but they suck now. That's, I mean, plain and simple, how it is. Now they got this, you know, five-star quarterback in there, ooh. So now Nebraska is going to be this great team. I'll see when I see it, I'll believe it. When I see it, I'll believe it. It'd be like if Minnesota just pulled in this five-star quarterback and now they're like, oh yeah, paul Bunyan's ex is for sure coming to Minnesota. Now it's like, oh, just wait, you guys still have flack, you guys still suck. Like let's wait a second, pump the brakes. It's okay, pump the brakes. So just a little tidbit stat that I saw there about the AP-25's top greatest programs ever since 1936, right, so long ways back, long ways back there. But an interesting list Badgers 23 on the list there.

Speaker 1:

So we got to get into some Brewer talk. We got to get into the Brewers today because the Brewers were back in action and I've missed it. I've missed Brewer, I've missed live baseball. I really have. I mean, you got the home run derby, you got the all-star game.

Speaker 1:

But was the all-star game really that great? I didn't think it was great. I'm gonna be honest with you. Like you know, when they, everybody was talking oh my gosh, we want Aaron judge to come up and we want him to face Paul skeins. Like this is going to be the greatest thing ever. One pitch, it lasted one pitch and it was over. It's like okay, that's, that's, that's the game. Fantastic, we saw the one thing we came for, like whatever, whatever, I mean it was a good game. I'm not gonna say it was a not a good game, but it's just between listening to that national anthem the night before now, the national anthem for the all-star game, cody johnson, that was fantastic. I mean they saved themselves from the night before by putting cody johnson on the next day because it just like it was night and day difference. I mean, after the fact he didn't have to check himself into rehab, right, so that was definitely definitely an upgrade there. But night and day difference, I just, you know it was, it was just, I don't know, it was a good all-star break.

Speaker 1:

But also, I mean, the home run derby wasn't that crazy, right, the guys you expected, the big boppers, pete Alonso, a couple of those other guys that you expected to see in the finals didn't get there. We see Bobby Witt, who barely hits home runs, going up against Teoscar Hernandez and the winner hit 14 home runs in the championship round. Okay, like I don't know. I don't know if MLB thought that that was better than what the original format was for the home run derby, but 14 home runs. That's super exciting for something that's supposed to be just about home runs. Super exciting to see 14. We've seen 40 in a round before. Like that's crazy Seeing a guy hit 40, 14, that's all we get Right. And Bobby Witt's last one was a wall scrape. It bounced right before the wall Could have forced it into a playoff, didn't?

Speaker 1:

But I mean, man, man, I thought the all-star break was, I'm not going to say a letdown, but it wasn't not as exciting as what I thought it was going to be. I'll be honest with you, not as exciting as I thought it was going to be. You know it was mediocre. I really, you know NBA all-star game. I thought that I'm going to throw something out there and it might not be right. I thought the WNBA All-Star game was actually not terrible. I didn't watch the whole thing, I saw a little bit and then I saw clips. I mean putting the team that was going, team USA, against Team WNBA, the team that was going to be playing in the Olympics versus Team WNBA, with Angel Reese and Kaitlyn Clark, and I thought that game was actually relatively interesting throughout the entire thing. Now, is it as flashy no, I shouldn't even say flashy as watching the NBA, because the NBA All-Star Game is just atrocious. But I mean, I thought it was a good game. I thought it was a good game honestly. So you know, I always expected the MLB All-Star game was that one All-Star game that just made you feel good and it was just good all the time and this one was just kind of a letdown for me. So not a good year for me for the All-Star game. Not a good year. Hopefully they learn from that home run derby and maybe next season they go back to the last format that they had with just a time limit and stuff like that, because I felt like it was a lot better. I felt like it was a lot better in that sense.

Speaker 1:

But with that, let's get to the Brewers. Let's get to the Brewers now. Brewers twins right, the Twinkies from across the border over there had to be taking them on and it was an offensive series. There was a lot of offense in this series. Pitching-wise, there was some struggle. So let's look at the games, let's dive into a little bit of what we saw in these games and then also just talk a little bit Brewers here.

Speaker 1:

So Brewers in game one. They won that one 8-4 in 12 in innings, a big explosion in the top of the 12th for the Brewers there scored five runs in that inning and we're able to take this one. We're able to take this one, but it was a close one. It was a close one. Bryce Terang one for six in this one. William Contreras two for six.

Speaker 1:

Jelich he's hurt again. The back's giving him trouble again. This is getting to be the third time, third time now. Last time he was out for a month with this problem and now I mean it's been a couple times now where we've had to hold him out of the lineup for this back issue. Man, I hope they can figure it out and we can have him, because you're going to get into a point of the season where it's going to be the home stretch, right?

Speaker 1:

I said it last week. I said this NL Central is going to be a tight race when it comes down to the last week of the season. The Cardinals will be right on the Brewers' tail, the Cubs will be right there Will the Brewers' tail. The Cubs will be right there. Will the Brewers have enough gas left in the tank that they can get over that hump? And you need to have a guy like Christian Yellich, who's hitting 320 on the season, you have to have him be the front runner. He's got to be that guy in that order. And if he's injured, feeling injured, whatever you call it feeling injured, whatever you call it it really makes you nervous now. So hopefully, hopefully, the Brewers can get that straightened out. Hopefully it's just a little tweak. Everything's good to go, but makes you nervous with that one.

Speaker 1:

William Dowm is two for four coming out of the All-Star break Love to see it there. Perkins went one for one in a pinch hit appearance. Mitchell goes one for three. Really need to get Garrett Mitchell going out there. Bowers one for two. Jackson Churio this dude is, he's got himself back. I mean, the average doesn't look like it because of the struggle to start, but he has himself cooking. He has himself cooking. It's carrying over, I hope.

Speaker 1:

Because to end the Brewers first half pre-All-Star break, jackson Turio was rolling right Month of June. He was hitting above 300. It was like this is the guy we paid for. Three for four in this one, two RBIs, a fantastic game. Gotta love to see it. Gotta love to see it there, jackson Turio playing well.

Speaker 1:

And there was another thing that I loved coming out of this game. The performance by Freddy Peralta. This is something that I have been waiting to see for months Months, I kid you. Not Freddy Peralta, take the Brewers deep in a game and look like he can be the ace of the staff, because that's what we were hoping for and I was hoping I would see it. Freddy Peralta six innings, two hits, two walks, eight strikeouts that's the Freddy Peralta that we need to see. You can have a couple games here and there where you give up a couple runs. I'm not saying you can't do that, but we saw it consistently. We did not see this Freddy. This Freddy. His pitch count was high. He gets into those modes where he seems to throw a lot of pitches. But this was a great performance out of Freddie. Wish he could have actually taken a deeper into this one, but got to love what you saw. Got to love what you saw in this one.

Speaker 1:

After that we saw Brian Hudson give up a run in his inning and a third. There we saw Paguero put up a zero, zastrinsky put up a zero, pajero put up a zero, zastrinsky put up a zero, pajams puts up a zero, mcgill puts up a zero in his outing. And then Jacob Junis. Two innings, two hits, three runs, one earned in this game. That's what made it close. That's what made it dicey there for the Brewers. But Junis was able to get him out of trouble. He was able to get him out of it and the brewers walk away with the win. So that was a solid game out of the brewers.

Speaker 1:

A little bit of struggle here and there, hitting with runners in scoring position six for 17. Six for 17 not great, not bad. Right in the middle it's okay, an okay day. Hitting with guys on, seven guys left on base. You want to see the brewers be able to drive in those guys, but seven guys left on. You're putting a lot of guys on base. Guys left on base. You want to see the Brewers be able to drive in those guys, but seven guys left on. You're putting a lot of guys on base in this game. So Brewers look good in game one there. A little bit of hiccups here and there, but leading us into game two of that series, brewers, eight to seven, win over the twins in this one and it it couldn't have been without drama. Right, it's got to have some drama. Why wouldn't it? Why would we not want drama if we are Brewer fans right, I mean Brewers 8-7, 11 hits for the Brewers, 9 for the Twins.

Speaker 1:

In this one we saw Teran Contreras go 0-5, 0-4. In this one we saw Adamas go 1-5. Frelick went 1 for four. Reese Hoskins two for four with the home run. That lovely, that's lovely. That is something that I want to see out of Reese. I need Reese to get hot. I want to see Reese Hoskins be the Reese Hoskins that we signed him to be. That's what I'm hoping for. Hopefully this is the start of that. Joey Ortiz goes one for four. Mitchell goes one-4. Mitchell goes 1-4. Jackson Churio goes 2-4.

Speaker 1:

This guy is up to .253 with the batting average right now. You got to love it. I got to look last seven here. I got to look at the last seven here for Jackson Churio. He's batting .300 over the last seven games. Over the last 15, he's batting .298. Over the last 30 games, he's batting .311. Batting 311. Is there anybody out there who's saying that this guy's hot? Because this guy's hot, you better watch

Speaker 1:

out for this guy. Eric Case, this guy is making it very difficult, for when Gary Sanchez comes back, this guy is making it almost impossible to say we can firmly say when Gary Sanchez comes, comes back. Sorry, eric, but you know you're going to be designated for assignment. Hopefully you find greener pasture somewhere else and if you don't, you can always come back here and sit in our triple a. We're we're running out of options for that right, because eric hayes, in his limited, limited action with the Brewers here, 429 average, three home runs, eight RBIs and he's got an OPS above 1,000. Now, I know it's

Speaker 1:

only in 21 at-bats. So I'm not going to say that you know, holy crap, like this guy's done this in you know 40 or 100 at-bats. Like I'm not saying that. What I'm saying is in the role that he's playing right now, what tells you that he can't be the backup catcher for the brewers? Now, that leads to another conundrum. Then, because what do you do with gary then? Pat loves gary. I think gary brings a power threat off the bench, which is something that

Speaker 1:

you need at times. So I'm not going to say that I don't want to see Gary Sanchez come back, but what do you do? There's options, right? I mean, we know Gary Sanchez can play first base. Do you designate Bowers? Right? Carry three catchers, but you have a backup first baseman there in Gary Sanchez. Do you trust him? I don't know if I trust him at first base. It gets kind of scary over there when I see him playing first base. But if you're looking at offensive production, hase has been offensively great for the Brewers Sanchez. He's been good, he's been solid, a lot more at-bats, he's got some home runs to his name, right RBIs, a lot of timely hits. It's going to make a tough decision when he comes back. It's going to make a really tough decision

Speaker 1:

for this Brewers team. So Eric Case in this one though 3-4, had a big home run there. He had two home runs in this game, I believe. Yeah, he did. He had two home runs in this game. He had one in the third and he had one in the ninth. In this one. Jackson Turial went deep also and so did Reese Hoskins in this game here. But I mean, he's making it tough. He is making it tough to say Gary Sanchez, you get a free spot here on this roster. Brewers in this one, three for six with runners in scoring position, four guys left on base. Love to see the production with guys on and getting hits there. Love to see that out of the Brewers Savalli with guys on and getting hits there. Love to see that

Speaker 1:

out of the Brewers. Savali, savali this is a prime example of the Brewers making a move for a pitcher. But is it really a good pitcher? Right, savali hasn't been bad, but he hasn't been good. Two home runs given up in this game Walks and home runs will be the killer for Savali. But it begs you to question then, why did we ever get rid of Dallas Keuchel, home runs, walks, walks were the biggest problem for Keuchel, turning out also a problem for Savali, turning out, also a problem for Savalli. What's the kicker here between those two guys? I mean, looking at the comparison stat to stat, keuchel, in four starts, had a 5.40 ERA, 11 strikeouts, 8 walks and a 1.86 whip. He got DFA Savalli three starts. He had a 5.1, 5.71 era, 18 strikeouts and nine walks. Walks, home runs,

Speaker 1:

a problem for both. Yet we make this move for savalli, knowing that he's had these issues. We make this move really makes you question things and the thought process behind it. I want the Brewers to go out there and I want them to make a move. Make a move that makes sense, right, I don't want these. I love and hate the Brewers sometimes. Right, they do these moves where it's like the project guy we're hoping this guy comes to be. We're hoping this guy can figure it out because he's cheap, right? Dallas Keiko, we got him for a dollar, one whole dollar we got Dallas Keiko for. Do we ever think there's a reason why he was a dollar? He's past his prime. He's going

Speaker 1:

to be an pitcher. Savali we sent over a double A player. Now, barrows is actually pretty good. I mean, look at his stats down there in the minors. He's actually a pretty good player. But you send one player out of the minors for Savali, who's already in the bigs. There's a reason why he's cheap. I just need the Brewers

Speaker 1:

to make one move. One move for a pitcher where I can say to myself I know this guy can be good. One move for a pitcher where I can say to myself I know this guy can be good, I know this guy can be good. Will they do it? I don't know. But Savalli, in this one gives up five runs, five earned runs in this one. Four strikeouts, four walks, four hits. The home run ball, the home run ball, eats him alive. It eats him alive. It's like the. Actually, you know what, honestly, he fits right in with the rest of the Brewers starters. He fits right in Because it seems like the home run ball is what kills us every day. I don't know why, but it is Zastrinsky. This guy is making a name for himself and I kind of like it. I kind of like it there. Two-thirds of an inning there for him, one strikeout, zeros. This guy is putting up zeros in all of his outings. So far he's got a zero ERA

Speaker 1:

sitting in the bullpen. When Jared Koenig and Deb Williams come back and if Strinsky is pitching like this, do you keep Pajams and Milner both up? If they are pitching bad, if they keep going on the trending they're trending like they are do you keep them up? I think it's tough to. I really do. I think it's tough to do something like that. So, outside of that, though, bryce Wilson comes in inning pitch one walk, one strikeout. Jackson Churio makes a fantastic catch with Bryce Wilson on the mound there, running to his right there, to his right, down the left field line. Fantastic catch by Churrio. So great stuff

Speaker 1:

there flashing the leather. Jared Koenig did return. I just as I said that I remember Jared Koenig pitched today. He's back in the fold right now. So Jared Koenig did return and he looked great in his appearance, in his appearance back with the Brewers. One inning, one hit, one walk, one strikeout, love it, love it. Jared Koenig is back there for the Brewers. I saw him pitch too. That's what irritates me the most, that I just said what happens when he comes back. I just saw him pitch today. I forgot about it. I completely forgot about it. So Jared Koenig back in the fold. Love to see it there, back in the fold, love to see it. They're just waiting on dev williams to come back

Speaker 1:

to the brewers there. But elvis paguero inning pitch, two hits, one walk, two strikeouts great stuff out of paguero. Trev mcgill he got to save, but he was playing with fire. He's so is paguero, though he got himself out of a jam, but I mean mcgill was playing with fire out there. Two hits, two earned runs in this one, a k and a home run given up there for Trevor McGill. He gets dangerous sometimes and that's why I'm saying, if we can bump him back to the eighth inning or the seventh inning and we have Devin Williams back in the fold at the back end, that would make me feel better. That would make

Speaker 1:

me feel better there. So Brewers, though ultimately, ultimately, the Brewers get the series win right, they get the series win. They get the series win right, they get the series win, they get the series. Two-game sweep, I guess you would say. And now they had to play those pesky Cubbies. The pesky Cubbies, I mean man, I don't know. The Cubs are starting to find it again. That's what worries me heading down to Chicago. The Cubs are finding it before the All-Star break a little bit, and now I mean 48-53. Right now they're 10 games back, but they're 6-4 in their last 10 games. Cubs are finding it and it makes you nervous. It makes you nervous that this team

Speaker 1:

could climb themselves back. I really do think, when this is all said and done, we will see a three-team race between the Brewers, the Cardinals and the Cubs, and I think the Cubs will play themselves back into this race here. I mean, it's close, right, this is one of the closest divisions that you look at any of the divisions out there. This is like the. This is the closest one outside of. I would say the only other close one would be the AL West, and that's because every team sucks in there. So that's besides point. But this is a really tight division and the Cubs are playing themselves back in. So the Brewers need to stop that little fire that the Cubs have lit underneath of them here before they get any more

Speaker 1:

momentum moving forward there. But in this one we're going to see Myers start the first game of the series. I loved what I saw out of Myers heading down the stretch there. Game of the series. I loved what I saw out of Myers heading down the stretch there. Can't wait to watch him starting out this first game in the second, the post all-star break, right the post all-star break, pre all-star break second half, first start for Tobias Myers. Can't wait to watch it there. So that's going to be a 7.05 start there

Speaker 1:

down at Wrigley Field. You know what's terrible is Wrigley Field underneath the lights. It's like everybody out there is just holding a phone flashlight up in the air and that's how we see when we're at Wrigley. It just looks terrible. I mean, come on, can we not get better lighting? Can we not get better lighting down there? And no roof. So odds are, with our luck it's going to be windy or it might rain right One of the two, or it might rain right One of the two. It's always one of the two. When you go to Wrigley there and you play at night, usually it's the wind, so can't wait to see the wind there in that one. Maybe it keeps the ball in the park a little bit, makes it an interesting one. A pitcher's duel we could see a pitcher's duel in that game as Tobias Myers takes on Assad for the Cubbies in that one there. But with that, that's about all I got for today. That's

Speaker 1:

about all I got. We talked about a lot. We got Packers talking today. We got a little bit of Brewers Team USA. Lots of good stuff happening. Lots of good stuff happening. Tomorrow here on the show we're going to have to dig deeper into the Brewers here a little bit. We always have something to talk about with the Brewers, right, and you never know. You never know what's going to happen in the sporting world. So we will keep you up to date on that here on the show. But with that, this has been Wisconsin Sports Time to Go with Trage. Thank you guys for listening. I hope you guys enjoy the rest of your Monday, but until I talk to you guys again tomorrow, deuces.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, oh, my Lord, watch me sway. Darkness falls and we all pray, hoping for the light of day. Down to the river, I have held the devil's hand, felt the weight of my own sin Buried by the heart of man. Down to the river,
