Speaker 1:

You, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you. How we doing everybody. And welcome in to Wisconsin Sports Time to go with Trage. I'm your host, trage. It is Tuesday, tuesday, july 23rd, a fantastic Tuesday, july 23rd, here in the great state of Wisconsin, or wherever you are listening, I hope. I'm hoping it's great there too. They're talking a little bit of rain today, hopefully not a lot. You know it's starting to well. It's a little dry now. It's a little dry Maybe, maybe dampen up the roads a little bit out there. I don't know. But a fantastic day. I got autumn with me again today. Autumn, how we doing. It's Tuesday, it's a fantastic Tuesday.

Speaker 2:

Doing good, nothing to complain about.

Speaker 1:

Nothing to complain about, indeed.

Speaker 1:

It is a fantastic Tuesday. Lots to get into today. Lots to get into. We saw the Packers report to training camp yesterday. A lot of news coming out of that session there. We got Brian Gutekinds on the mic. We're going to look over what he had to say yesterday. Jordan Love News coming out of yesterday. Some say it's bad, some say it's. Eh, we're not worried about it, we're going to get into that. Today we got some Brewer talk all around the board again today here.

Speaker 1:

So right away I want to start with the Brewers. I want to start with the Brewers. No-transcript been, I mean, a little beat up down there, a little beat up. So DO Hall is going to resume that little rehab assignment down there. Devin Williams we saw him there with the Timber Rattlers. He's going to head and he's going to take his game up to AAA Nashville here on Saturday. It looks like we will see Devin Williams there. So sooner rather than later, we will see Devin Williams back with the big league club and they could use them. They could definitely use them out there in the bullpen.

Speaker 1:

Another solid arm, right. You can't complain about solid arms, especially when it's your all star closer, right? I mean, we've been without this guy. For months it feels like forever now We've been waiting for Devin Williams to come back in. I mean, I'm just hoping when he comes back it's the Devin Williams that we remember, because that would be a big boost. A big boost, a big boost there, a bolster at the back of the bullpen there, a boost for the Brewers there at the back end.

Speaker 1:

Move Trevor McGill out of that closer's role. Let him kind of settle into maybe a seventh-inning guy, maybe an eighth-inning guy, whatever. Brian Hudson maybe. Float those two around in there, allows you to push guys up right and gives you inning eaters. Then you know, jared Koenig, he could be your sixth-inning guy, jared Koenig, he could be your sixth inning guy, maybe even a seventh inning guy with Jared Koenig as well, as he's pitched through this season so far. And then I mean Puguero, piams, milner. It gets them out of the high leverage roles, gets them more towards, I would say, the not lesser innings but the more expendable innings.

Speaker 1:

We're not getting late into the game now. We're sitting in like that fifth, sixth inning area now where it's not as detrimental that they get us out there. So that's where we're looking right now. Big injury wise. Big injury wise. What we're seeing right now. Joe Ross continues on his rehab assignment. I I don't know what Joe, I don't know what. Joe Ross, what, what the heck we're going to see out of him there and then Gary Sanchez waiting for him to come back slowly and slowly here. But the Brewers I did not mention it yesterday there they did swing a deal with the Mets. They did acquire Tyler Jay, a left-handed pitcher there from the Mets for TJ Shook there Autumn. Do we got any stats on Tyler Jay? Do we got any stats on Tyler Jay? I can't say that I've ever heard of this guy. It seems like a common name, so probably have seen a Tyler Jay around every once in a while, but got no stats on this guy here. Is he a big league? He's been in the bigs. He's been in the bigs a little bit.

Speaker 2:

He was drafted in 2015.

Speaker 1:

Drafted in 2015. So he's not I mean not real old, but he's been in professional baseball for a little while now. But not much to write home about with this guy. He just made it up to the bigs this year 771 ERA, three games, four and two-thirds, seven hits, four runs. That seems like a deal that our lovely brewers would swing right there. That seems like a deal we would swing.

Speaker 1:

This is a uh, a project guy. This is a project guy and tyler j not. This isn't one of your big blockbuster deals that we need to spend an hour talking about here. This is one of those where it's a mention. And move on from tyler j coming to the brewers tj shook heading to the new york mets. It seems like the Brewers and Mets ever since. You know, and it makes sense, david Stearns is out there now. So David Stearns is on the phone with the Brewers. I mean, he's making deals. He knows what he likes and David Stearns is going to be swinging deals and I guarantee you this isn't the last one that we're going to see between the Brewers and the Mets here for the coming future here. So, with that Autumn, you got your tidbits. You got your Brewer tidbits for the day what do you got? What do you got for your Brewer tidbits?

Speaker 2:

Just some MLB stat leaders right now for the Brewers. As of today, the Brewers are currently tied for fourth with the Red Sox in batting averages at 255. Currently, the Astros are in first with a 261 average. The Brewers are in second for stolen bases with a total of 136. The Reds are currently in first with 139. And the Brewers are in third for saves at 33, and the Cardinals are in first with 36. Some of our top batters for the Brewers Christian Jelich is in the top three batting averages with 320. Stephen Kwan out of Cleveland is at 346, with Bobby Wood Jr from KC at 337. And Bryce Schreng is in second for stolen bases with a total of 30. First is Ellie De La Cruz at 48.

Speaker 1:

Some great tidbits there, some great tidbits from Autumn there. I mean, yeah, you look at the average, you look at the stolen base for the Brewers. It tells you they get on a lot and they like to run right. They love to run. This Brewers team does, and it's something that you love to see, something that we didn't see a lot out of Craig Council's teams. We're starting to see now out of this Brewers team, a lot to do with Pat Murphy and the way he loves to run the ship here. I mean, you look at it, the batting average is lovely and so are the stolen bases. But the big thing that kicks me is still that runners in scoring position the average being as high as it is, is relatively low when it comes to hitting with guys in scoring position. So something that the Brewers need to improve on, I guess, is coming up with that clutch hit right. I mean we know they can hit right. We're talking about this team. Like you said, they're on them and being fourth. They're fourth in all of baseball and batting average right now and yet this team still at times struggles to find ways to drive in runs. So something that is going to be on, you know the Brewers are going to be on the lookout for maybe at the trade deadline we try to add a piece, I don't know where. I'll be honest with you, I don't know where. You add a piece, right, do you give up on Reese Hoskins at first base? I don't think so. Joey Ortiz is your third baseman, willie. I don't foresee them giving up on Willieie.

Speaker 1:

That's your shortstop and I mean honestly, you look at his stats on the year, I believe autumn. He's still up there for rbis right now. He was, I mean, at one point he was bleeding the shortstops in rbis and he was pretty darn close to the top there in the in the league in rbis. I believe azuna was above him there. There was a couple guys above him, but he was up there. What is he sitting at right now? Rbi-wise God, last time I remember it was like 59 or something like that. Is he up now?

Speaker 2:

He's at 67 RBIs 67 RBIs.

Speaker 1:

I mean he leads the team. Is that really a guy? I know a lot of people dislike Willie Adamas. I know a lot of people do and they get frustrated with him and everything like that. But leading the team in RBIs, now you could say, well, he gets a lot of at-bats at the top of the order.

Speaker 1:

I'm not saying that I am opposed to dropping Willie Adamas in the order. I've always said that I'm good with that. You want to drop them to five, six, seven, okay. But my biggest thing then is who's your number four? If Reese starts to hit the baseball, okay, reese can jump into that four spot. Drop Willie to five or six, that's fine, right.

Speaker 1:

But until that day comes, who are you going to drop into your cleanup spot? We can't have this Sal Frelick experience. Like Craig Council always loved to pull Sal Frelick batting in the cleanup spot, right, I mean you might be able to get away with it, but I guess maybe it's my traditional baseball feeling in it. But my cleanup guy is my power guy. He's my guy. Who's an RBI guy? He's not going to have the prettiest average in the world, but the guy can drive in runs. That's Willie Adamas. I hate to say it, because at times I am one of those people that gets frustrated watching Willie Adamas out there, you know, because he does have those old for four days, right, and it looks like he's completely lost at the plate. But in hindsight this guy drives in runs and you can't replace that that easily, right? Unless you, you know you unload the farm. Unless you unload the farm to grab a huge bat, you don't replace a guy like Willie that easy. So I know a lot of people feel like it's time to move on from Willie. I don't think it's right now, I don't think it's before the trade deadline, willie, I don't think it's right now, I don't think it's before the trade deadline, I don't think it's this season. Plain and simple. I don't think you can replace him in that lineup right now. I'm not talking clubhouse, right? I'm not talking clubhouse because I understand everybody's argument with the clubhouse guy and everything like that. I get that. What I'm saying is that I know this guy does struggle at times but he drives in runs. That, at the end of the day, is the silver lining of why you have to keep a guy like that around, Because you know you try to even it out then right, joey Ortiz doesn't drive in as many runs as what we see out of Willie.

Speaker 1:

Bryce Terang doesn't drive in as many runs as what we see out of Willie. I mean, we're talking about a guy who leads the team, leads the team in RBIs. I believe next closest is Contreras with 56. Yelich has got 42. Hoskins has 48. That's all. I mean, there's a big, big difference between what you see out of Willie and what you see out of those guys. Now, different spots of the batting order, those guys. I mean I just mentioned a few guys in there who are setting the table for Willie Adamas. But, like we just said, and like we were talking about, runners in scoring position is a problem for the Brewers. Willie Adamas is one of your main guys who's getting hits in those situations through drive-in runs. So it's hard to replace a guy like that. So I guess I just put that one to bed before we even get to the trade deadline.

Speaker 1:

I am not looking to move Willie Adamas. I'm not looking to move Willie Adamas. I just I feel like you can't. I feel like you can't with that one. It would just be, I don't know, autumn, autumn. Do you move Willie Adamas? I could see a way, there's ways you could do it. Joey Ortiz slides a short, bryce Turegg slides a short. You bring up a prospect, like Tyler Black, but honestly, could you foresee the Brewers? Moving on from Willie Adamas?

Speaker 2:

I mean not really Like you said, he's got those games where he goes 0-4-4 and really trips the trigger for a lot of Milwaukee fans. But I mean we have a pretty solid infield and I think Willie also has a good clubhouse morale and I do think that if they do do a trade with him, I think it would definitely alter things, the team at that point.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, no, and that's the clubhouse factor of it. That is definitely the clubhouse factor of it. When you talk about that, like you said, christian Yelich up there in batting average, I mean the guy has been a different kind of pace this year. You love to see it, you love to see it out of Christian there. Hopefully he continues that in the second half. Bryce trying to get on base stealing bases there. Ellie De La Cruz up there with 48 stolen bases. I mean when the guy actually gets on base he steals. That's just what it is. I mean you look at the average, you look at his hits, you look at his strikeouts. It's either a hit or a strikeout. That's basically it with Ellie De La Cruz. That's what it seems like. And those 48 stolen bases he gets on, he steals two bases. That's about it. Right, I mean not much more to talk about in that aspect there, but with that I mean a lot of good Brewer talk there, a lot of good Brewer talk.

Speaker 1:

I just want to check around baseball right now, kind of see where everybody is sitting here to start out that second half. I mean we got the Indy AL Baltimore, new York, boston, tampa Bay, blue Jays sitting in last in that division. In the central we see the Guardians in first, followed by the Twins, the Royals, the Tigers and the White Sox. In there Astros have overtaken well tied. They're tied for first place with the Mariners right now. But where the Astros started to where they are now, I'll flip the script. Kind of run here by the Astros and kind of what we talked about, you know, last week there, I think, even the week prior. Just I knew the Astros were going to take that division. It's just a matter of when they got healthy. They got healthy now and now we see them up on top Astros, mariners tied for first. Rangers in third right now, followed by the Angels and the Athletics, phillies, braves, mets, nationals and Marlins.

Speaker 1:

That's the order in the NL East right now. The NL West, we see the Dodgers up top, followed by the Diamondbacks, the Padres, the Giants and the Rockies there. So getting into the Central, getting into the nl central right now, we see the brewers up on top. Right now they're leading by five games over them, pesky cardinals. And it just seems like even when you put a little bit of a winning streak together, you put on a little bit of a run, it just it feels like those. Those cardinals are just right there. You know, it's like we're going 90 down the interstate right now, but they're going 88, right, they're hanging right with us right now and it's just a matter of who's going to, who's going to falter. You know who's going to.

Speaker 1:

Every team goes through that stretch of games where they start to struggle a little bit. How big is that stretch going to be for the Brewers? How big is that stretch going to be for the Cardinals? Can they stop that bleeding before it gets too bad? Right, that's something I'm going to watch with this NL Central race here. Pirates seven games back right now.

Speaker 1:

The pesky Pirates, man, the pesky Pirates, they hang around. Paul Skeens, jones, I mean, they have a solid pitching staff right now and you know what's really faltering them is the lineup. But the lineup is slowly starting to find something. They're winning games. I mean they're 8-2 in their last 10. That's not all Paul Skeens, right? I know everybody when you think Pirates right now and that's the way the media wants you to believe it it's all Paul Skeens. You would think that Paul Skeens is pitching every single day If you were in the Pittsburgh area or if you were listening to the baseball world. It's like, oh my gosh, paul Skeens, it's like he's pitching every day.

Speaker 1:

No, this is a solid team right here in the Pirates. Are they there yet? I don't think so. I don't think they're there yet. I mean, knock on some wood. I mean, they always seem to have the Brewers number. When it comes down to it, late in the year, it always seems like the Pirates, you know, just find a way to beat the Brewers and give the Brewers trouble, and then the Brewers end up faltering off or, you know, losing ground in the race, everything like that, to the finish line there. So, pirates, I mean that is a dangerous team. That is a dangerous team with not a whole lot to lose. And they have a lot of guys on that roster with not a lot to lose. I mean, now rowdy to les might lose a job if he doesn't start to produce for him there. But then we see the cubbies 10 games back of first place right now, still below 500. And then the reds follow them in last place.

Speaker 1:

And I did see cra Craig Council got a little testy with an ESPN reporter after their game. I believe it was on Sunday. There, it was on Sunday. They were playing the Diamondbacks. They won 2-1. And a reporter by the name of Jesse Rogers came out and he was talking about in-bat that Christopher Morrell had in the seventh inning with a runner in scoring position, and he said it looked like Morrell was swinging for the lake there. What do you think about some of those at-bats? And Council immediately called out Rodgers for the swinging for the lake comment and he said come on, jesse, come on, that's your comment. I think that's a bad take. I think that's a bad take. He's swinging for the lake. That's a bad take. I'll be honest with you. I'll be honest with you.

Speaker 1:

I've seen Christopher Morales swing a baseball bat. Yeah, he was swinging for the lake. I'll be honest with you. Like, that's just the way that he swings the bat. He's not a guy who, when there's a guy on or he needs to get a hit, he's going to like dial it back a little bit, right? I mean Brewer fans, you remember Carlos Gomez, gomez. All the time he would swing out of his shoes, that helmet would go flying. That's how Gomez swung. That is how Christopher Morales swings the baseball bat, right? I mean, is it great? No, it's not great. I don't enjoy watching him swing. Sometimes it's like Javier Baez. I don't enjoy watching Javier Baez swing, but so was his take bad. I mean, to each their own, I guess on that one I'm not going to say that it was a bad take because that's what he saw. It their own, I guess on that one I'm not going to say that it was a bad take because that's what he saw.

Speaker 1:

It looked like Christopher Morrell was trying to unload on a baseball and in the situation it, to the reporter, felt like he should have been trying to just drive the ball, put it in play. Is it a bad take? I don't know. But Craig Council got a little snippy. I mean, that's a little snippy dig, I think, craig, and it makes me laugh. It makes me laugh so much.

Speaker 1:

I think Craig going to Chicago, it's like the best thing that has ever happened. Because he said I want a new challenge, I want this new challenge down in Chicago, and I just got that feeling it's going to be great. It's going to be great new challenge down in Chicago, and I just got that feeling it's going to be great, right, it's going to be great. And now it's like man I can only imagine in the back of his head he's looking at the Brewers and he's saying, man, oh man, I wish I would have never left. Man, oh man, I wish I would have just stuck it out and stayed there, because this is a crap shoot.

Speaker 1:

I mean, we got terrible bullpen. I got guys like Dansby Swanson, who's hitting like what 240, not even hitting the crap. He's not hitting worth a darn right now. And the Brewers over there, they got guys that last year they stunk. I couldn't figure them out. And then all of a sudden, bryce Terang should have been in the conversation for the All-Star game, but wasn't Sal Frelick's hitting the baseball? Jackson Churio, I mean, since June 1st he's hitting like 300, he's in above 300 since june 1st. Just, I mean it's like a night day difference right now from what craig had in milwaukee to when he left and what we see now just a complete flip the switch and it just makes me laugh. It makes me laugh that craig is having such an issue down there with the cubbies right now.

Speaker 1:

But the nl central right now it's a pretty tight race. I mean it's a pretty tight race, right, I mean it's a pretty tight race right now. I've always said I think it's going to come down to the Brewers will be just in that last week. It will be like a three-game lead. It will be like a three-game lead over the Cardinals and the Cubbies will be right there, maybe five games back, something like that Autumn. Where do you see the NL Central? Like end of the year? You're looking back at it and where do you see this nl central? Do you think the cardinals and cubs keep pace with the brewers? Do you think that maybe one of them overtakes the brewers at one point here in the second half? Do you think that the cubs actually dig themselves out of the cellar and end up in a three spot?

Speaker 2:

I don't know. I mean the Brewers. You know they're really doing well right now, which is always good to see, but it always comes down to the end of the year where everything starts to fall apart. It seems like I see the Cardinals sticking with them until the end. I don't really know about the Cubs. I don't foresee the Pirates going much further than they already are, but it always seems like the Cardinals always come up at the very, very end and are pretty close with the Brewers. So I could foresee that happening. I guess it just kind of. I hope the Brewers are able to continue to move forward and figure it out, when you know things aren't going the way they want it to.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, no, 100%. It always seems like the Brewers falter off at some point At some point. That's what I was saying. There is that every team hits that little bit of a bump in the road. How big is the bump in the road? There will be a bump, it's just. How big is that bump? Right? I'm hoping the bump was actually pre-All-Star break, because they had that struggle of games. They lost the series to the Nationals, had that series tie with the Colorado Rockies, who are a bad team, lost that series to the Dodgers. I'm hoping that was the little bit of a bump in the road and now it's just play baseball. Now it's like we saw what the worst can be. They played some bad games in there. They played some bad games in there. They played some bad baseball in that stretch. I'm hoping that that was the schneid and now we're back at it, because that I I really I am praying that I'm wrong. When it comes to the end of the season prediction, I'm hoping that the Brewers are up 10 games and there's no even thought that they're, this season might come down to the last game, because, oh my, I don't think I can handle it, not with this team.

Speaker 1:

This team loves to make games interesting. They call them the cardiac crew for a reason. They love to make every game interesting. Let's make it four to three. We could end it four to one, but let's give up two runs in the ninth here and just make it interesting. We don't want to send everybody home early, we want to give them a game here. I'm hoping we can avoid that coming down the stretch there. So with that, that's about all we got for Brewer Talk. That's all we got for Brewer Talk today. We got a lot to get into with the Packers today because the Packers I mean we saw the start of training camp there. We saw Brian Gutekind speak, so we got to get to that. But before we get there I want to mention some awesome sponsors of our show here.

Speaker 1:

So, with that, some Packer talk. Now we got to get to some Pack talk and we saw the beginning of training camp there and the biggest news coming out of it was Jordan Love and we. You know it's kind of what we expected. I'm not going to say that it was when I heard the news, because you know I'm working all day. I'm working. So you know I just get the notifications across the, you know ESPN, whatever it is. I just get random notifications and this one comes across and says Jordan Love's agent says that Jordan Love will not participate in any practices until his contract's done, and you know so. Then you know I'm standing up there on the ladder and I got to stop and think to myself. Then, right, you got to think to yourself. So what does that mean? Well, what? Basically what it says. But in the further scheme of things, you can be upset, right, you can be upset.

Speaker 1:

I'm not saying you can't be upset. You know this guy's still under contract for a year, yada yada yada.

Speaker 1:

I get it. If you want to be upset, you'll be upset out there. But really, what I thought was you know what? This is a guy who, if he does go out there and play, if he does go out there and practice right, and I know it's no contact right now, everything like that, I know that. But if he goes out there and practices and let's just say he steps wrong, he just steps wrong. I don't know what happened. He, he steps in a hole and all of a sudden something tears, maybe it's the acl that tears or whatever it is.

Speaker 1:

Now j Jordan Love is out for the year. Well, what does that do to the contract that Jordan Love was just about to get Boom Downward, not even close to what he was going to make before, because now he's coming off an ACL tear or whatever it was. He's coming off of that now. So now you have to worry about that. So, in Jordan Love's best interest interest, and maybe even the packers best interest, I think it's the right move. To be honest, I get where people might say that they want him. They just go practice. Dude, you're still learning the contract, go practice. But that 200 and I mean they're talking 250 mil. They're talking that it could be up to 275. They're talking a lot of different kinds of deals they're talking about he's going to be a record breaker, right that he could set the set, the new standard, right that changes it with an injury. So for for me, honestly, I don't blame him. I can't sit here and blame him.

Speaker 1:

Now, what the contract is hinging on, I have no idea. Nobody does, nobody does. Brian Goodikens wouldn't speak on that. What is hinging this contract right now? Is it years? Maybe he wants five years, the Packers want four. So they're arguing about that right now back and forth. Maybe they want to do an option for that last. Is it the guaranteed money? Is that what's hinging this deal from happening? I feel like it's the little things, right. I don't think it's the total amount because, like we talked about yesterday with the Kenny Clark deal, I don't believe you make a deal with Kenny Clark if you don't have somewhat of an idea of what you're going to give Jordan Love. I don't think you can. I think you're at that road then where you're like, okay, if I sign Kenny Clark for this amount of money, I won't have enough for Jordan Love. I don't think you can. I think you're at that road then where you're like, okay, if I sign Kenny Clark for this amount of money, I won't have enough for Jordan Love. You got to get Jordan Love first.

Speaker 1:

I love Kenny Clark and, like Brian Goodikens said in his presser there, this is a staple of the defense. This is a guy who is a role model on the defense and any program, any team would want to build around there with Kenny Clark. So I completely understand bringing a guy like Kenny Clark back. I do, I. You know signing him to an extension. You don't want him playing next season and you know not playing. You know he's playing for his next contract somewhere else. You don't want that. You want Kenny Clark locked in with Green Bay. You want him to be the center of attention For Halfley's new defense and that's okay.

Speaker 1:

But that makes me believe that we have a number. There is a number out there right now Of what Jordan Love Is going to make, what he is going to make Total. What's the guarantees look like, what's the? The years look like Everything like that. Now that's different. Now we have to wait and see.

Speaker 1:

I feel like the little things are what is hinging this contract from happening. So do I blame Jordan Love for sitting out of practice because of that? No, no, I don't. I got to be honest with you. I don't. I really don't. The Packers what makes it actually make you feel better is that he's there. It's a hold in right now. That's the biggest thing I heard today was it's a hold in, it's not a hold out. A hold out means that the player doesn't show up. Jordan Love's there, he's in the meetings, he's with the guys. So it's a hold in, it's not a hold out. A hold out means that the player doesn't show up. Jordan Love's there, he's in the meetings, he's with the guys. So it's not like Jordan Love has no interest in Green Bay and Green Bay has no interest in Jordan Love. The interest is mutual. They want to get this done Now. It's just a fine. It's getting the pencil and doing the little fine.

Speaker 1:

Tuning to the contract there and coming to an agreement of what we got to do Now is something that's hinging. It is the Packers are saying you know, we saw you play very well, so we know you have the talent, but we want to keep the talent around you too. We want to keep maybe a guy like Josh Jacobs or bring in a different piece there in the running back room. We want to keep some of these receivers. We want to give you a good offensive line. We want to give you a stacked up defense. We want to keep adding pieces. We want to be able to afford pieces. So you need to take a contract that's going to be affordable to get you those pieces, something that Aaron Rodgers never would do. That was the biggest thing with Rodgers right, he took all that boatload of money. The Packers were kind of strapped for a while. Maybe they're trying to avoid that with Love.

Speaker 1:

The thing that actually made me feel good when Brian Goodikens was speaking was they asked him the question they said is something that's holding you back? The fact that you only saw half a season of Jordan Love where he was playing great football? Is that holding you back? And Brian Goodikens said no, that's not holding us back right now. We saw that and we know what we're getting in Jordan Love. Now we know what we're getting, so it doesn't really worry me as much there with the Love situation.

Speaker 1:

Now, if I was in that same, put yourself in those shoes, put yourself in the shoes of Jordan Love. If you had that boatload of money coming, would you risk an injury before you sign that contract? Would you? I mean, honestly, I wouldn't. I'll be honest with you. If my boss told me tomorrow, hey, I'm going to give you this boatload of money if you can avoid injury today, and he sent me out to do this crazy task, right, right, would I want to go and risk the injury before I get the boatload of money tomorrow, or wait until I get the boatload of money and then risk the injury? I mean, autumn, let's say you, if you were in this same situation and I know you're not a big Viking fan here, but if you were in the situation that Jordan loves it, but if you were in the situation that Jordan loves it, where there's a contract on the line, if you get injured and non-contact football injuries happen we know that it's actually pretty common which sucks Would you risk it before you had the big payday, because that big payday turns into way less then? Oh, absolutely not, absolutely not. That's all we need to know. That's all we needed to know. Out of that was absolutely not. I can understand where people want to be upset. You can be upset if you want to be upset, but at the end of the day, if you put yourself in that same situation, it's very hard to tell yourself, yes, I would go out there. Yes, I would go out there. This is a money-driven, we want to make money, kind of league. Now that's just how it is.

Speaker 1:

Jordan Love loves Green Bay. He does, end of the day, he loves Green Bay, so you can't knock the guy for that. He is going to stay in Green Bay. People need to stop worrying about that. Bears fans need to shut up about.

Speaker 1:

Oh, everybody was giving us crap about Caleb Williams. You know not getting that contract done. He's a first year guy. This is an extension onto a guy who has been in the league for multiple seasons. Now he's going into his fifth season because he's got that fifth year option that he's working out or his extension deal that he's working out. He's only going to make $11 million this next season here in that final year of the mini extension that he signed last May. So, $11 million, you're going to risk the injury for $11 million.

Speaker 1:

I don't know about that when you could be setting the new bar for quarterbacks in the league, because we saw a guy like Trevor Lawrence. He got a five-year $275 million deal with $200 million, guaranteed $55 million a year, lawrence and Joe Burrow actually tied for the highest average pay in the league. Burrow's a guy where, yeah, I can see him making more than Jordan Love. Trevor Lawrence I don't think so. Trevor Lawrence hasn't proven to me much more than what Jordan Love has. To be honest with you, tell me how much more he has oh wait, not much.

Speaker 1:

Made the playoffs, did he win? I don't think so. Hasn't made it to a Super Bowl. Hasn't made it to an AFC Championship game. Jordan Love made it to the Divisional round. Right championship game. Jordan Love made it to the divisional round. Right Was actually probably if Andrus Carlson, like I said yesterday, if Andrus Carlson makes a kick, makes a field goal, we might be talking about a team that went to the NFC championship game at least to take on the Detroit Lions. So to wrap it up, jordan Love I don't fault him for any of this.

Speaker 1:

I do, however, expect a deal to be made within the next couple days. I know I've said that, I said that last week, I said that the week before that, but I really do. If it's not this week, I'm going to stop making predictions, but I really do expect within the next three days. It always seems like it's at midnight. It always seems like we could well, let's all go to bed tonight and everybody set your alarm for midnight and at midnight there is a pretty good chance it will go off and tell you that Jordan Love got his extension. It seems like all the big deals happen in the middle of the night, when you think everybody's sleeping. They're sitting out there. I mean what? Paulorge went to the 76ers and it broke at like one in the morning, like who's in the office at one in the morning. Why is paul george still awake, right? Just crazy, just crazy stuff there. So with that, I mean that's about it.

Speaker 1:

For the packer side of it there, training camp just getting started here. We did see matt lafleur. He came out to talking to this presser, said he'll be at practice. He's in the meetings participating. Hopefully we get something done sooner rather than later there. Yeah, I mean 100%. You can't. I'm not faulting Jordan Love for what he's doing right now. I can't even force myself to. I tried to. I tried to see it from the lens that people were when they're freaking out about it. I can't. The deal's going to get done. When it gets done, everything will be good on that end there. So with that, autumn has our fact of the day. We got to get a fact of the day in here. Haven't had one in a while. Autumn, what do? We got Fact of the day.

Speaker 2:

On this day in history in 1997, greg Maddox needed only 77 pitches to complete a game for a win over the Cubs. I thought it was fitting that we're playing the Cubs today. The game only took two hours and seven minutes from the first to the last pitch.

Speaker 1:

That's what we got right now. This is like this is pre you know, the time crunch games. We got to get these things in as fast as we can. Greg Maddux was just preparing everybody for it. That's. I mean, that's crazy 77 pitches for a complete game. You look at guys nowadays who are throwing no hitters. Why? I don't think it completed. Look at Paul Skeens against the Brewers he almost had 100 pitches through seven innings. Right, I mean it's, it's a different kind of league now.

Speaker 1:

Greg Maddox was a guy. He's constantly in the strike zone, whereas nowadays, I mean, even your most dominant pitchers, greg, are not. Uh, paul Skeens, right, he's like the guy in the league right now. What's the one? Knock on him. He gets a little crazy with it. Sometimes he's all around the zone at times.

Speaker 1:

That's what the Brewers had against him. They were drawing walks, they were putting guys on base. They just couldn't drive them in, they couldn't find ways to get hits against them there. So, yeah, it's definitely a crazy stat to see a guy like I mean, not crazy to see it was Greg Maddux there, but to see a 77 pitch complete game, something that is unheard of these days in the league there. So with that.

Speaker 1:

One last thing, one last thing for the day here, and that is a little bit coming out of the wisconsin badgers, a little bit of wisconsin badger news. They're not not a little, not totally about the football team, but kind of about the football team, kind of about the volleyball team, kind of about the hockey team also there. And then also I mean it was already happening in basketball and hockey last season there, but beginning this season Wisconsin Athletics will begin selling beer, wine and prepackaged alcoholic products beverages in the general seating areas of Camp Randall Stadium and the Fieldhouse. What kind of beverages are we talking about Autumn? Are we talking about Bud Light? Are we talking about Bud?

Speaker 2:

Light. Is there a list of what they actually serve there? Um, I'm not really sure I know. In like the presidential suites and like those like higher end seats, they always are served alcohol. But whenever I worked the games before I never actually saw what what they were, so I really can't add in on that one.

Speaker 1:

I'm hoping it's not like just, you know, you go to a Brewer game and I'll be honest, I get it right. Miller Lite, everything like that I get it. But you know me, bush Lite's kind of the thing. I go to a Brewer game, I can't drink Bush Lite, you know, except for in the parking lot. It's kind of a struggle sometimes. Now I can settle for a Coors. They do have some pretty good Long Island Iced Teas at Brewer Games. So I'm not going to completely knock everything that they got there. But I mean I really wonder what the beer options will be. I really wonder what the beer options will be If it's like a Coors Light kind of thing. It always seems like Coors is everywhere, so most likely Coors. I wonder if Bush Light will make its way in. I really do. I wonder if Bush Light will make its way in. Are you finding a list? She's trying. She's trying to find a list out there. I don't know if they'll have one out there with that, but just if she finds it we'll let you know.

Speaker 1:

But with this change, uw madison will become the 16th school in the big 10 to sell alcohol in its stadium. Football stadiums. General seating area anyone who appears under the age of 40 will need to show an id which will be verified by an electronic scanner. I'm pretty, wouldn't you just want them to scan the ID anyways? Would seem logical. I don't know. I thought you know you go into a gas station most of the time. They'll scan your ID. I don't know that one's kind of like no brainer, but okay.

Speaker 2:

Well, don and Madison, they actually have a fancier device where they match the ID with the person's face. So if it's like a fake ID and somebody's using somebody else's identity, it'll like catch it oof, oof.

Speaker 1:

What if you know that that'd be crazy if it like you shave your face or something, or you're not shaving the picture, you look like a scruffy bear when you come in and they're like this, ain't you like? That is to me, that is to me, and you gotta sit there and argue with them 40 minutes. Right, I mean my face. It depends on the time of the year. Right when it gets cold outside, I let it grow a little bit longer there to keep my face warm, you know. And what if that's the thing that hinges me from getting a beer at the badger game, like that is going to be a big kick right in the gym bag, right there, if I can't get a drink. I mean, come on. So I did find the drinks. Oh, oh, we got the. Oh, we got the drink list, we got the drink list. This is what we needed to know.

Speaker 2:

They had Coors Light, miller Light, bush Light and Bud Light in a 16-ounce can for $9.49. They have local beers of Spotted Cow, fantasy Factory and Wisconsin Amber for the same price but in a 12-ounce can. White Claw for $9. High Noon Topo, chico Neutral Seltzer for $10.49. And Clear Plastic Cans of Woodbridge Wine in Chardonnay and Cabernet I'm not going to try to say the next word at $10.49. Roughly equivalent to a glass.

Speaker 1:

Might be better off just tailgating and getting loaded in the parking lot before you go in. Nine dollars for a bush light, you're paying. If you're paying over nine dollars for a spotted cow, you're wild. That's all I know. I mean, spotted cow is okay, but like over nine dollars for it, I don't know. I don't know about that one there, but we did see chris mcintosh. He did come out and say we were pleased with how well alcohol sales went during the basketball and hockey seasons at the Kohl Center and LeBron Arena last season. That we expect much of the same at Camp Randall this fall. Well, no crap, like you're, I don't even like. That's a statement where it's like dude, you live in Wisconsin, right, these people are getting loaded in the parking lot anyways before they come in. Now you're just giving them the access when they walk through the door, right? I mean great, I'm glad to hear that it went so well last season. Kind of what I expected, not going to lie. Kind of what I expected out of a Wisconsin game. I mean, look at Packer games, look at Brewer games, everything like that.

Speaker 1:

Where does most of the revenue come from? From concessions? I can only imagine. I can only imagine. Let's shoot beer. Let's shoot beer on there. Maybe a little bit of food here and there, but a lot in the beer sales, let me tell you. And last but not least, a portion of the revenue from alcohol sales will provide financial support for existing and future campus-led efforts to promote student wellness and to encourage responsible behavior around the use of alcohol, such as offering alcohol-free programming for students and supporting students experiencing challenges related to high-risk behaviors.

Speaker 1:

There. Sell alcohol to fund programs to prevent alcohol, I guess right. So you're feeding an alcoholic to try and start programs to prevent people from becoming alcoholics? Bold, bold, that's a twist, that's a twist. That's something I like. That's something I like right there. That's that's, that's fun, that's good. That's good. I guess not. Not funny. It's not funny. It's just odd when you really think about it. We're selling alcohol to fund alcoholic. We're basically funding them to start AA meetings, right? You know, like Joe over here is going to buy a 30-pack at the Badger game to fund Karen going to an AA meeting that was paid for by Joe. Thank you, joe. Good, good, I'm glad to hear it. It's a good thing. It's a good thing. At the end of the day, it's a good thing. It's for the well-being of students and people around the area, so it's a good thing. It's just really odd, when you think about it, that we're using alcohol sales to fund alcohol relief efforts. It's just different, it's odd. But with that, that's about all we got. We got to end it on that. We know what alcoholic beverages will now be at Badger Games. That's all we needed to know. That's all we needed to know for the day. So, with that, that's about allger Games. That's all we needed to know. That's all we needed to know for the day. So, with that, that's about all we got. That's all we got for the day here.

Speaker 1:
