Raquel Quinet:

relationships matter. Never burn bridges and definitely always show gratitude to the people that continue to support you, invest in you, because guess what? Relationships are key. This one shows up in life and in the recruiting world. And when they say your network is important, and relationships will open doors for you. This couldn't be any more true. Welcome to the Raquel show. This show is for entrepreneurs who want to play bigger in business and in life. And I'm excited to have you part of our community. I always want to say thank you for your shares, your messages, and your suggestions that fuel our passion and drive us every single day to keep this podcast going. And today we're shaking things up. Usually we dive into short, episodes of Business Tactics. But today, this episode is special. We're exploring the true essence of why we build businesses, whether it's for freedom, opportunities, personal growth, or the ultimate goal that many people strive for, which is freedom. Freedom to me is the ability to live life on your own terms and be surrounded with people that matter most to you. And no one Sets out, I believe no one sets out to create a business that causes so much stress, that makes them lose money, or accumulates crazy debt, yet it happens. Why? Because the journey isn't always easy, But for a second, imagine building a business that not only thrives, but also gives you the freedom to be absolutely present. for life's most precious moment. Who wouldn't want that? So recently I had the joy of being fully present at my son, Bryce's first college recruiting trip. Bryce, who some of you, if you follow me, know that he's had dreams of playing D1 college basketball on a full ride, a full scholarship. And it's been a very lofty goal. with less than 1 percent actually achieving it. Yet today, Bryce has 11 offers and our first visit to University of Evansville in Indiana made me realize how important it is to be present and enjoy these moments. Years ago, I might not have been able to be present, which got me thinking about this entrepreneurial journey. You see, entrepreneurship allows us to build anything and solve anything, but I think it's super crucial that when you decide to go in business and you align your business. with what you truly want in life. I often ask my clients when they ask me, Hey, Raquel, I want to grow. I want to scale. I'm like, okay, great. Where do you want to grow to? What do you want to scale to? And then how do you want your lifestyle to look like? Because we can get there. with different paths, different strategies, right? And today I want to share eight lessons that I've learned from Bryce's journey. Lessons rooted in hard work and dedication that can inspire and guide us through business and in life. Starting with number one is go all in. When you commit to something, go all in, whether it's real estate, you first starting out, or growing your real estate business, to building a team, or a new job, you gotta go all in. And if you have said yes to real estate, or yes to building a team, or yes to a job, or even yes to a sport, you have to go all in. But also know why you're going all in. Understanding your why has to be so clear because You will have challenges, you will have adversity, and the way you feel may not always push you through. So there definitely are moments where you just want to quit and you want to give up. But you have to identify whether it's a feeling of temporary or it's actually no longer serving you. And to think about Bryce going all in since fifth grade without ever any guarantees in the world that he would receive offers or play at a division one college basketball school. I just admire that about people, especially when they go all in. And I think when you open up a business, you already take that risk, but might as well go all in. Sometimes we get comfortable. Sometimes when things get hard, we try to pivot, but I say just keep going and go all in. And it reminds me of Bryce because there were holidays that he missed. Weekend family parties, weddings, events. He even missed this past year, his junior prom, because he had a tournament. And I think there's something to be said when you go all in and are fully committed. Number two is be willing to do more than the average. To get the opportunities to be an elite athlete. or anything in life, you have to be willing to do more than the average. This even applies to work. You get better every time you challenge yourself. And guess what? Growth is uncomfortable. Bryce would often stay after practice. He'd go into the gym before practice and. When he was away from his practices, he was with a trainer, and even before games, he would ask his dad, can we go to our gym, to the basketball courts and put up some shots? This applies to business and life. I remember when I first started in real estate, I looked at all the top producers and tried to follow their schedule while learning about the business and sales on cassette tapes. Aging myself, cassette tapes, CDs, and programs since we didn't have podcasts like we do today. When it came to getting hired in the corporate world of leadership. I rarely worked required hours of eight to five. If I wanted to turn around a brokerage, I wanted to build amazing teams. I had to be ready and willing to put in the extra work. Do things that make you stand out. Number three is always remember that somebody wants your spot. When there are limited opportunities, the fight, the discipline, the motivation has to be so strong because somebody is right behind you fighting for that spot. You never really get to rest when you want to be on elite level. And I've seen this throughout the years with both my kids in competitive sports. That also goes in business. The more you prepare, the more you study, the more you perfect your craft, regardless of what the market does, those agents end up doing way more transactions. And number four is surround yourself with excellent. Who you surround yourself with matters. Surrounding yourself with those that actually make you better. This is so, so, so, so critical. And being a sports mom and a coach's wife, I hear so many things like my kid's not getting enough playing time, so I'm going to transfer him, or I'm going to complain to the coach. And I can tell you that will eventually hurt your child. That will eventually stop. The growth will stop at some point because you want to get to be on the best team and play with the best competition in the if you want to play at elite level. College coaches know and look for the best teams. They have certain brands that they look at because they know they always produce great competition, great athletes, and they always are looking for talent. and they've been doing this for a while, right? And what's interesting as I asked coaches today about Bryce is how did you find out about Bryce? And when did you know he was your guy that you were going to make an offer? And it's interesting what they say. Majority of his looks came from last year when he was playing up on the circuit. And that means like he was playing up another grade, up another age level, but he was surrounded by great players, great players that were recruiting them. And so people noticed him and had him on their radar when they were looking at other other people on his team. Some of his offers this year from a coach came from looking at somebody else on the team, but Bryce stood out and got the offer. So you got to show up every day as if nobody's watching you and in business and life, it's the same thing. Who you surround yourself matters. They have a huge impact on your life. So being surrounded by high achievers only elevates you in different areas of your life. So it's why I'm constantly. putting myself in rooms even when it's uncomfortable because you never know who is going to be in that room, who you're actually going to get connected to, and what they will actually expose you to. And number five is too many options can be distracting. When you've got way too many options, And I see this in business, it's going to confuse you. Bryce has 11 right now, and it's hard for him to keep up as there are coaches that call him, that text him, that DM him. And it's not only the head coach, it's the assistant coach, it's the recruiting coach, it's the coordinators, and it gets really confusing. So I can tell you, he wants to get these visits in right away and make a decision quickly when originally we were all gonna wait. I said, And I've said this before, I've said, in the lack of clarity, Everything is a bright and shiny object and that is so applicable to business. When you're unclear of where you want to go, you think you need this system, you think you need this CRM, you think you need this product, you think you need ads because there is a lack of clarity. Know what you want and don't be afraid to ask for it. Be clear on where you want to take your business so you can get the steps to get you there. Number six. is relationships matter. Never burn bridges and definitely always show gratitude to the people that continue to support you, invest in you, because guess what? Relationships are key. This one shows up in life and in the recruiting world. And when they say your network is important, and relationships will open doors for you. This couldn't be any more true. Relationships do open doors and they support you on your journey. And the one thing that I've learned from watching him and seeing some of his friends go through this is you've always got to appreciate the people that have vouched for you. You never know who they're talking to. You see, Brad has been a coach for over 20 years. He's also played the sport himself. He also went to college on a full ride. So he understands this community. And I can tell you. Today, he gets several phone calls on players in Arizona, on players on the circuit, players on his team, and players not even on his team. And I think it's the same for business. When opportunities come or when people ask me about certain people, you think about your relationships, you think about your clients, you think about who you can connect with them with, and the people that have not been so nice, you're very honest, right? Number seven is master communication. I think effective communication is a superpower. Communication is that one skill that will carry you so far in life. And when Bryce was on this recruiting trip, being able to communicate or articulate your thoughts in an organized manner, wins. When you communicate well, you also have influence on your side. And it's one skill that can I always wish that I paid more attention to when I was younger, but now I'm reading different books on it. Right now, I'm reading the book Super Communicators because I'm just trying to learn how I could communicate very well. English is my third language. Think about it. When you hear people that communicate well, you're drawn to them. Communication is that one skill you'll use forever in all aspects of your life. And last but not least is stay true to your core values. Always remember your core values. Bryce watches people's actions, and I'm surprised by some of the things he says about the process, but I believe it's because he knows his core values. He's clear on what he wants, and he pays attention to people's actions. When we were on Zoom calls for all the colleges, I looked at The coaches that were on there, I watched their body language, I looked at how they communicated with Bryce, the questions that they asked, and it's even more telling in person. I usually am the quiet one on these trips because I'm observing and I'm processing and on the calls and then I give my download to both Brad and Bryce and they're actually really surprised on my reads and the little things I've noticed. And in real estate. When you deal with all walks of life, you start to see patterns in people. You start to identify them quickly. So knowing your core values can help you actually make more aligned decisions. and in conclusion, Bryce's journey reminds us that success is built on hard work, dedication, clarity, relationships and values. And as you grow your business, keep these lessons in mind and align your actions with the life you truly want. Remember, the ultimate flex, the ultimate freedom, is living life on your own terms.
