Feeling your New Year's resolution fire dimming? You're not alone, and that's why this episode is dedicated to fanning those flames back into a roaring blaze of ambition and drive. I take you through the emotional roller coaster that is maintaining motivation, especially when the cheerleaders have packed up and the only applause comes from within. I'll guide you through setting concrete deadlines and constructing a roadmap to keep your dreams, be it homeownership or authoring a novel, firmly in your grasp. Through personal insights, I challenge you to choose your hard – whether it's the warmth of staying under the covers or the exhilaration of achieving your goals – and offer strategies to help harness the power of self-encouragement to keep charging forward.

Then, strap in as we confront the roadblocks that threaten to derail our success. I share stories of perseverance, including titans of industry who turned a cascade of rejections into a legacy of triumph. By redefining setbacks as learning curves and fortifying our mental toughness (sometimes through physical challenges like a grueling CrossFit session), we discover the resilience to push past adversity. This episode is all about finding inspiration within, rekindling your core motivations, and how tools like vision boards can be your guiding light through the murky waters. Remember, no matter the setbacks or detours, the path to your dreams always welcomes you back to resume the journey.

Speaker 1:

So here it is, march 1st, and your New Year's resolutions were to hit the gym every day, or at least like five days a week, or to start your book, or to start the process of trying to buy a house or whatever it is. Whatever you put up on your vision board. You know, the day before January 1st and you were so motivated and dedicated and ready to knock out all of your dreams and three months in, you start losing motivation and I personally think the feeling of motivation is a scam. I don't think it really exists and I honestly don't think you need to maintain that level of excitement and everything, and it's going to come in waves. If you haven't noticed that Some days you wake up and you're like, yes, like this is the day I'm going to write the book, I'm going to sit down, I'm going to write all day, and then you know you don't write for like three weeks and you wonder why, like where does that motivation go? You know, is it because you're feeling overwhelmed? Is it because you know nobody's clapping for you? Because nobody, you feel like nobody supports you. And that's what I want to get into today.

Speaker 1:

It is hard to maintain motivation, especially when nobody is cheering you on and you are doing everything that's going to have that delayed gratification that you're not going to feel complete or anything until after it's done. But some of those things take a long time, like your dream body. You know, going to the gym, getting up every morning, it's painful, it sucks and it's really hard. But once you're at the gym, obviously like you're there and you feel great after your workout, right, so you get that delayed gratification later. You know it's so easy to stay in bed and like, not get up, you know. But then you feel guilty. You feel guilty that you didn't go. You gave yourself that extra hour of sleep. You get up and you're like, why didn't I just freaking go? You know it's easy to start your workout once you're there, but it's also easy to stay in bed. But then you're always going to have that. I should have done that thing. You know, pick your heart. Do you want to feel crappy about yourself that you didn't go? Or feel crappy getting out of bed in the morning to go to the gym? Or, like me, writing? I have to make sure that I'm writing at least at least an hour a day, and sometimes I go a couple days and I feel like crap. So it's just just you. You have to find that motivation somewhere, right? So how do you stay motivated? And I think this is where having your goals, your vision board, around you at all time can really really help. Because, again, like I said, like you, you have to find ways to keep going. Nobody's telling you to get up out of bed, nobody's telling you to write that book. Nobody's telling you to pursue your dreams, find a better job so you can have a better life. Nobody's cheering you on. So you definitely have to be your own cheerleader.

Speaker 1:

So, first things first. If you have, you've already set your goals. Obviously you already have your vision board up for 2024. Like, what are some ways that you can make sure that you stay on track? Obviously, defining your goals, define it. We're just going to say, because I'm in role today your goal for 2024 is to buy a house by a certain date or whatever. Make sure that you have that data and that's also important too. So say you're giving yourself six months to figure out the process, to figure out what you need to do, do your homework, where do you want to live, what kind of house do you want, what's your price point, everything. So you start reaching out to real estate agents and loan officers and stuff like that just to get yourself a checklist of what needs to be done.

Speaker 1:

Make sure that you are educating yourself on the process, and this doesn't you have to go for real estate. It can be for anything. Know the process. Educate yourself because a lot of people stop doing that thing that they're chipping away at because they're uneducated, they don't know where to go, they're stagnant, they don't know what to do. If you're writing a book and you're like knees deep into it and you don't know what the process of you know book publishing. Do you want to be a self published author? Do you want to? You want to book deal through a publisher? Like, you need to know the process.

Speaker 1:

Educate yourself before starting your goals. Number one educate yourself because too many people get all motivated and they're like I'm going to do this one thing and it's going to be great. I'm going to change my life. They're all motivated but they're dumb. I say like, don't be a motivated idiot. We have enough of those running around. Don't be a motivated idiot. Educate yourself first. Define your goals.

Speaker 1:

Also, what helps is to find your why For me. I'm a mom and giving my daughter an incredible life is my why. I'm an incredible life too, and I want to be able to travel with her, show her the world, do lots of things with her. She is my why and I keep going because I have to. I have to, especially being a parent. You're a leader and what you do, your children are watching, you're leading them, and I want her to see somebody who doesn't give up, because I feel like there's so many times where I'm like so stressed out, so overwhelmed, lacking motivation, and I want to just like give up and say screw it, like I'm going back to being a cop, I'm done with this whole thing. But no, you have to know your why.

Speaker 1:

I remember my why and again, having a vision board or goals or anything that you can look at multiple times a day, it's going to keep that why in your brain. Somebody wrote I can't remember what book it was, but somebody said you're 42% more likely to achieve your goals if you are constantly looking at it. So, having it on your phone, having it on a, somebody actually said put it on like a little car, like print it out and laminate it like a little laminated vision board. I mean, why not? You need to be looking at it all the freaking time to keep up that feeling of success. So, and then create a plan. But when you're creating your plan, make sure you are not sabotaging it by trying to fill in the gap, because you have a gap, right, you have where you are right now and then where you're going. So in between those two things you have a gap. Don't fill in the gap, because when you fill in that gap, you're like I'm going to write a book and it's going to be published by this specific publisher. This is the name of the title, this is how it's going to go. You're filling in the gap.

Speaker 1:

You are creating tunnel vision for yourself, because you need to be able to open up your mind and allow other people, other resources, other things to happen for your plan to come to reality, right? So having tunnel vision, you are. What's it calling? Like controlling, manifesting or something like that? Yeah, something like that. But if you allow yourself other people to help to step in or whatever, it's going to be even better Versus the plan that you had in your head is it doesn't have to just be one way. You will burn yourself out trying to control the outcome of that goal. If it only has to happen one specific way, be open to other things happening and other things, like I said, like other people coming in, all the things. Don't try to control the outcome of it either, because a lot of the time, your expectation of the outcome is going to be even better than you could have ever imagined. Don't give yourself tunnel vision. Throw your goal out there and then take baby steps to make that a reality. Make that goal a reality. Take baby steps and allow things to happen. Allow people to help you. Surrounding yourself with really supportive people also helps too.

Speaker 1:

I don't think that anybody should be keeping their goals and dreams and all the things to themselves. I hate that stupid mean that goes around. That's like, oh, do everything in silence, like don't tell anybody what's going on, just come out and you'll look like a success and stuff like that. That's not how this works. You have to talk to people, you have to get out there, you have to network. You have to tell people what you wanna do and not everybody, obviously, just your really close friends who are supportive of you because it's almost like having accountability as well. And having that accountability, your friends are like, oh hey, how's that book you're writing, is it almost done? And you're like, mm-hmm, I kind of fell off the wagon. I haven't written in a couple of weeks. And then they're like okay, well, why have accountability people in your life and tell everybody about your dreams?

Speaker 1:

Shout out from a freaking mountain top if you have to Also celebrate your small wins? This is what I have a hard time doing is because I feel like I'm just going through a giant checklist of like okay, that's done. Checklist that I manifested, that I did this goal, I did that goal, and then I just keep going. You have to slow down and celebrate your win, like when I say celebrate your win, like take yourself out to dinner or have like a little girls night in or whatever. Like do something that is going to celebrate that goal being accomplished. You are gonna get burnt out if you don't. You have to slow down. Okay, don't feel like me and just going through my freaking life, just collecting all these wins and not celebrating anything. It gets exhausting, visualizing your success as well. So make sure that you are visualizing. What are you gonna feel? How are you gonna feel when you get done with that goal? How are you gonna feel? Visualize that, like when I'm done with this freaking book. I'm gonna feel so happy, so light, so everything. And I focus on that happy, positive feeling. It'll keep you on track. Focus on how you're gonna feel when you accomplish that goal. And also I talked about this on my Instagram Okay, guys, this comes back to not having tunnel vision.

Speaker 1:

Do not control how you are going to manifest your goal. Don't try to control it, because you are gonna hit roadblocks. And when you hit roadblocks, you're gonna think that you're failing and that, oh, this is not for me. I'm not doing well, this must not be in the cards for me. I should probably try to do something different. You're gonna give up. You're gonna think that it's not meant to be, but you have to realize that failure is part of the process. It's just part of it. And when you realize that they're just roadblocks and you can drive around roadblocks, you're going to keep pushing forward.

Speaker 1:

I think of roadblocks as like bumpers at a bowling alley, and when you are rolling the ball, you are the ball and you're like hitting the bumpers. If you're a really bad bowler, like me, you're hitting the bumpers and the bumpers are keeping you on track because it's leading you to your end result. You have to keep going. If you give up, then yeah, you failed. If you are hitting multiple roadblocks along your way, along your path, all it is is an opportunity to learn and pivot. Okay. So if something's not working and you're failing at it, it just means that that specific avenue of approach is not where you're supposed to be. Try something different. Try something different. Don't give up.

Speaker 1:

Failure is part of the process. I mean, look at everybody who has ever invented anything or has ever tried to do anything. It was like Walt Disney was trying to like create his brand for years until somebody finally noticed him. Yeah, like how. Or the story of the guy who invented the Dyson vacuum. I can't remember how long he was doing that for, but it took him several, several years and everything that he was creating was failing. He could have given up, but he didn't Cause again.

Speaker 1:

Failure is part of the process. If it's on your heart to do something, there's a reason why it's there. It is meant to be, it is what you're supposed to be doing. If you have a passion for something but you keep hitting roadblocks, keep breaking going Again, if you lose that motivation, remember your why. Why are you doing this? Look at your vision board, because you know I'm big on vision boards. Visualize it. Do all of the things to keep yourself going. Also, make sure that you're taking care of yourself.

Speaker 1:

I talked about this a little bit with Sarah on one of the previous episodes, where she has contrast. I need to have contrast to one of those people and she goes to CrossFit and CrossFit's really hard, it's difficult, it's a lot of strength training and a lot of cardio, and having contrast gives you the ability to keep going when times are really, really tough. So, like I said, I've talked about this again, like in one of my previous episodes. For me, my contrast is I remember how difficult boot camp was for me and trying to overcome obstacles literally obstacles like a rope, and I couldn't do it and, oh my gosh, like it is stressful If you've ever been through any sort of boot camp and any military branch. You know how stressful boot camp is Because you have the drill instructors yelling at you. It's just a combination of shit. It's just a huge combination and if you can't do something, you're gonna have drill instructors on you like front, back, left, right and they're gonna be screaming at you to do that thing. Well, I could not get up the rope and one day it happened. It took a couple of weeks, but one day it happened and I was like, if I can do that, I can do anything.

Speaker 1:

Make sure that if you need some contrast in your life, the gym is a really good place for that. It doesn't have. You don't have to think about it in a way or a sense of like I'm going to the gym to lose weight or I'm you know whatever. It's not about that. Sometimes For me it's. I need to move my body. I you have, like your body holds onto so much energy and negativity and, like everything, trauma. Your body holds onto all of that. But if you shake it and you move it out, it actually makes you feel a hell of a lot lighter.

Speaker 1:

And going to a difficult workout if you can go to a 6 am or 7 am workout like a CrossFit workout or something. That's difficult for you. It could be anything, even yoga, cause, let's be real, yoga is really hard. If you can get through that, you can get through the rest of your day. It's a mindset thing, okay. So remember mindset first. Fix your mindset and it'll change your freaking life, but make sure that you have that contrast, okay. Having that in mind, I hope that you guys are still maintaining your goals, manifesting your dream life, doing all the things.

Speaker 1:

If you needed this episode to just kind of keep you still on track, then you know, I hope this, I hope that's what this did. Okay, you guys, it's March and if you fell off the wagon and you've stopped doing that thing, it's okay, you just do it. Just start up again right now. Don't wait until tomorrow, don't wait until Monday. Start it right now, okay, because it's not too late. You don't have to say you failed and nothing's working out for you. It's okay. Okay, it's okay, we all do it. Anyway, send this to a friend if you know somebody who could use like a little bit of a pep talk or anything, because, again, like it's really hard to do things if nobody's cheering for you. But guess what? When you finish that, when you get to the finish line, you buy your house, you work out, you're losing weight and everything, and people are starting to notice. Of course, you're going to have more cheerleaders, but right now it's just you, that's it, and it's really difficult to keep going. Okay, so I'm rooting for you and I really hope that if you guys need some motivation or you need a cheerleader, send me a message. We'll talk. Okay, thank you guys.

Speaker 1:

So so much for listening to this episode. I really, really appreciate it. I would appreciate it so much if you guys left me a review, rate me some stars, subscribe, share the podcast, because it really does help small podcasts like get out there into the world. It really does help and it would mean the world to me. Okay, also, I still have that free vision board class. If you are wanting to learn more about vision boards, why they work, the science behind it, send me a message right now on my the updated AF Collective podcast Instagram. Send me a message because I'll give you the link to it, but I don't have my website yet. I am still working on a website. That way I can have classes. I want to put subliminals, hypnosis, all the fun things on there, just as like free stuff for my listeners, okay, anyway, I hope you guys have a really good weekend. Thank you so much for listening and I will see you next week. Bye, guys.
