Speaker 2:

three guys around the table well, there's three of us and there's a table you've heard of five guys.

Speaker 3:

We're not talking burgers and fries here, we're talking three guys a table and the topics of the day that we want to talk about. It could be anything from this to that, or we could talk to this person to that, but guess what? You'll never know what it is until you listen in.

Speaker 2:

I guess the first topic of the day is the temperature of the room, apparently.

Speaker 3:

Minus 35.

Speaker 1:

It is so comfortable in here right now it is the way I like my meat taken off the smoker.

Speaker 2:

Raw.

Speaker 3:

Cold.

Speaker 1:

I'm not afraid to have it. A steak would be perfect in this environment.

Speaker 2:

Well, let's just say that I'm sitting here sweating. One of us is under a blanket.

Speaker 1:

As always.

Speaker 2:

And then the other is sitting over there complaining about the temperature.

Speaker 3:

He's not complaining, he's just shivering. But he's also icing his teeth. His teeth are chattering His teeth are Terrible. I think it feels fine.

Speaker 2:

I think You're under a wool blanket Details.

Speaker 1:

I think under a wool blanket.

Speaker 2:

The three guys around the table. They're, uh, you know, a little chilly today. At least two of them are.

Speaker 3:

But it should be called it like ice cubes around the table or something.

Speaker 1:

So it should be called. This is what Lima feels like now.

Speaker 2:

This would be a good time but it's too cold to tell that story right now.

Speaker 1:

So that's true.

Speaker 2:

And it is a cold day in April In Kentucky, I must say.

Speaker 1:

And we are like Three or four days from the Eclipse.

Speaker 3:

Keeneland opens today. Imagine being on a horse Going 35 miles an hour. I'm just thinking about being on the finish line when the wind whips up through there.

Speaker 2:

I've never been to Keeneland. That is the first fun fact of the day.

Speaker 3:

Alright, we need to change that. We can get that done, Gary. We need to fix that quick. Pick a warm day though.

Speaker 2:

So today is also a momentous day, because we're just Final four weekend. We're one day away from the final four, of course being Saturday, Nobody cares. Yeah, exactly.

Speaker 1:

Who's in it? Nc.

Speaker 3:

State.

Speaker 2:

NC State. Nc State More importantly, to several of our listeners and to us, wrestlemania weekend.

Speaker 1:

That's true.

Speaker 2:

And I think all of us have been impacted by wrestling and specifically WrestleMania over the years. I don't think I'd say impacted.

Speaker 3:

Impacted. I don't know if my life has been impacted by WrestleMania.

Speaker 2:

Well, I don't know if my life has been impacted by Wrestlemania. Well, I don't know. I think you've got a busted up knee right now.

Speaker 3:

Well, that's true Pro Wrestling. That's right Off the top ropes.

Speaker 2:

So we're going to talk about some of our favorite Wrestlemania memories. I think, yeah, it's a good time To start us out, so the coldest person in the room has to start. So I think we're going to start with chris.

Speaker 3:

Actually, I defer, I'm gonna sit here and enjoy my warm cup of java are you enjoying your coffee?

Speaker 1:

I am enjoying my coffee.

Speaker 3:

Enjoy my coffee, I'm just gonna sit here and listen to you guys while I'm enjoying my coffee.

Speaker 1:

I'll start yeah, I mean I think that um the wrestlemania that that stands out. I think in most people's minds in our age was wrestlemania 3 okay, yep, agree, that was the one that's mine, that's mine. Yeah, that's where Hogan wrestled Andre the Giant Yep had the body slam. Yes, they thought that could happen.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, that was a momentous.

Speaker 3:

I am still and I've seen that replayed over and over and over and I am still shocked. What did Andre weigh? 600 something.

Speaker 2:

They something. They said 525. He's bigger than 525 and you know I I sent you all a a little video earlier in the week of andre before he got so incredibly heavy.

Speaker 3:

You know he was agile back in the day when he got on the ropes versus big john stud he went on the top rope crazy afraid. Yeah, yeah, but he was able to stand there and the ropes didn't sag yeah, it's amazing.

Speaker 1:

I mean good construction. It's kind of like ovw three. Oh yeah, well, the thing about the thing about that, andre.

Speaker 2:

You know hogan matchup was, I mean, andre was undefeated going into never lost, never lost. So what? What else about wrestlemania 3? Do you want to?

Speaker 1:

well, I mean, I think it was just for me in my age that was the one that it was the huge comeback, because wrestlemania 2 was so bad, it was terrible, uh, but wrestlemania 3 was so good, uh I know you're going to talk about a different match in it, yeah, um, but, but that was the highlight of it. I mean, to me that was the iconic wrestlemania of my life and I think it's a good time for another fun fact.

Speaker 2:

at the time and I don't know if it's been beaten since then at the time it set a record WrestleMania three for indoor attendance record at an event over 93,000 people.

Speaker 1:

Can you imagine going to one of those with 93,000 people?

Speaker 2:

in a dome, just losing their minds.

Speaker 1:

All right what dome.

Speaker 2:

What's it in?

Speaker 3:

Uh, I know this, this super domeome, nope, nope astrodome nope, nope, the pontiac silver dome that's right yeah, outside of detroit, so, and you've got to think about the clientele too there. I mean, you're not talking about 93 000 people of your neighbors or, necessarily here, your college roommates, or anything like that.

Speaker 2:

You're talking about 93 000 people from all walks of life yeah, everybody, hulk hogan, uh, he could pack them in back in the day. You know, it didn't matter we talking steroids, or what? Well, that's up to you. Uh, you know so, allegedly alleged, so anyway, but that's not my favorite match. Okay, tell us. Tell us about your favorite match.

Speaker 1:

My favorite match was WrestleMania 18. Okay, I was, you know, 2002. 2002. Yeah, it was a match of two icons from different eras. It was Hulk Hogan, again, versus the Rock. Yes, I was more of a Rock fan, yep, being the younger one Hulk was a little bit older than me- what are you saying, sir?

Speaker 2:

I was a Hulkamaniac.

Speaker 3:

Did you take your vitamins?

Speaker 2:

And I said my prayers Listen brother.

Speaker 1:

But when you get, when you get a match, that is, they're going on back and forth. The crowd's going crazy. They were trying to usher in the Attitude Era and get away from the older guys, but the people in Toronto were loving seeing Hulk Hogan. Yep, the Rock does rock bottom on him. He kicks out, then he starts hulking up. Oh yeah, he hulks up, he does the big boot and then he does the leg drop on the rock and then the rock kicks up all of them, uh, and then, and then the rock kicks out.

Speaker 1:

The rock ends up winning the match. Um, but that's my favorite match. It's. It's not the best match, but it's my favorite and hogan kind of passed the torch there.

Speaker 2:

He did, absolutely.

Speaker 3:

And willingly so that's what was cool about it If you read behind the things on it.

Speaker 2:

he willingly did it and that's kind of the same thing that Andre did for him in 87. Even though Hulk was super over, andre was the one who had never been beaten, undefeated, never, lost, undefeated, never lost Hulk was not certain that Andre the Giant was going to do it.

Speaker 3:

He did not know because Andre had said no.

Speaker 1:

What are you trying to say?

Speaker 3:

It's not all scripted the way you think it is.

Speaker 2:

Hogan was concerned going into it and he kept trying to talk to Andre about the match beforehand and Andre just wouldn't talk to him about it. And so Hogan, famously, was shaking in his boots because he didn't know if Andre— because if Andre didn't want to be beaten he wouldn't be beaten. I mean, he was the biggest, the baddest, the strongest. Arnold Schwarzenegger tells a great story about Andre, the Giant.

Speaker 2:

Andre and Arnold Schwarzenegger went out to dinner and when they went out to dinner—so Arnold and Andre went out to dinner. And uh, when they went out to dinner, um, so arnold and andre went out to dinner and arnold at the end says you know, I'll pay. And andre says no, I pay. And so arnold's like no, come on, andre, you let me come to the matches and see you, I'll pay. Arnold and andre's like no, I'll pay. Arnold said this is ridiculous, andre, I will pay. And he reaches for the check and andre picked him up and put him, just like gunther's telling us right now, picked him up and put him on top of a credenza like he was a little doll as well as arnold says.

Speaker 3:

This is probably arnold in his bigger prime yeah, exactly.

Speaker 2:

So if Andre didn't want to lose, he wasn't going to lose, and that was the intrigue of that match, so he could be like LeVar Ball undefeated never lost, never lost. Never lost.

Speaker 3:

All right.

Speaker 2:

So that's a great one though.

Speaker 3:

That's a really good one.

Speaker 2:

What about you, mark? What's your favorite? So I'm going to go back to WrestleMania 3 once again, and uh, boy gunther's are you a real american? Yeah I, I am a real american I love.

Speaker 2:

I listen that song every morning, fighting what's right fight for your life, yeah, so, um, anyway, gunther is really really out of control out there. He doesn't like the neighbors across the street. I don't think he does so. Anywho, wrestlemania 3 love the hogan match, obviously. Uh, love to see hogan slam andre, but the best match in that wrestlemania and, in my opinion, best match I've ever seen I would, I would argue that's it's in the top three of all wrestling matches was the randy, savage, ricky steamboat match for the intercontinental title.

Speaker 1:

Um, I was a huge fan of ricky the dragon steve and that wasn't.

Speaker 3:

That was an undercard match, that wasn't, though. Yeah, no, no and steamboat was.

Speaker 2:

I've got met him, got my picture taken with him super nice guy and I was a huge fan of his and he would have been one of the greatest of all time I think he really was. But he would have been known much. The greatest of all time, I think he really was, but he would have been known much more. But he wanted to have a life outside of wrestling so he famously would take time off and spend time with his family and he would have to drop the belt to do so, and that was kind of an agreement he had with Vince McMahon.

Speaker 2:

So, long story short, that match was scripted and we found out obviously later on how detailed the match was. Uh, macho man and steamboat both got together and scripted the thing out on legal pads and it was multiple pages, one move after another, and it was so scripted and it came off so perfectly. The execution was amazing. I mean, not knowing that at the time, you're just thinking my god, I'm seeing, yeah, it was great, fantastic, yeah, okay, great match. So that was my favorite. Uh, do you remember?

Speaker 1:

uh, I remember, and I don't remember when this was. But do you remember when macho man randy savage hit ricky the dragon steamboat with the uh bell?

Speaker 2:

oh yeah, and it's hurt his throat yes, things like that, yes, yeah, that's one of the things I remember about their feud so the first time I ever got to see wrestling live I was in sixth grade. My brother took me to the matches up in columbus, ohio.

Speaker 1:

Wow and uh, yeah, yeah whatever no question, but but was that a christmas gift or was it just you that was a birthday? It was a birthday present. Actually, you get birthday gifts.

Speaker 2:

Rings said yeah, no we were not, he was holding the bell but uh, it was ricky steamboat versus the magnificent Don Morocco in the main event managed by Mr Fuji, by the way, oh, mr. Fuji, and I'll never forget that. That was like the thing to me. I was like, oh my God, this is the greatest thing I've ever seen. So, yeah, so I'll come back later for my least favorite and, you know, strongest feelings against a WrestleMania match later. Does it involve?

Speaker 3:

a Milky Way candy bar, is it that kind?

Speaker 2:

of feeling oh, it's right up there, wow, it's pretty harsh.

Speaker 3:

Chris, you're up on what your favorite one is, so I'm going to go again. I'm going to kind of follow Mark's lead just a little bit. Number one I think I would have said WrestleMania III. The first thing I remember in wrestling was Andre the Giant and Hulk Hogan, but I think one of the most enjoyable ones I've only seen like two right. One of my most enjoyable ones was from WrestleMania 10, which is the Madison Square Garden, and it was not the main event, matter of fact. I don't even know what the main event was. I think Lex Luger or somebody I don't know but it was the Intercontinental Championship match Intercontinental.

Speaker 2:

Championship match Intercontinental Sorry.

Speaker 3:

Intercontinental Championship match between Razor Ramon and Shawn Michaels. Oh, and, it wasn't the first ladder match, but it was probably the best, the most famous one Ladder match to date.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, and it went on for almost 20 minutes. These guys basically killing each other. You know, in a ladder match and it's one of those you go back and watch and just when you think it's over, you know something happens. Somebody kicks out, you know, and it just keeps going. And that's kind of where Brett Michaels got the not Brett Michaels good grief. Shawn Michaels got the name Showstopper because it just they put on such an entertaining match, right.

Speaker 2:

Is it comparable to a coal miner's glove match?

Speaker 1:

Not at all, nowhere near as good.

Speaker 3:

You can't compare WWEF to OVW. You just can't, you just can't. It's not even worth trying.

Speaker 1:

The coal miner's glove is just out of reach.

Speaker 2:

Just out of reach.

Speaker 3:

They had to climb the pole, though Did you notice that they had to scale the?

Speaker 2:

pole, though Did you notice that they had to scale the pole?

Speaker 3:

Oh, another thing, though, about WrestleMania 10 I want to throw in there. That was the last televised performance of Randy Savage with WWE. Is it really? Mm-hmm, wow. And it was the first WrestleMania that didn't have Hulk Hogan in it, mm-hmm so just a few other things about it, but yeah, so I really like the Shawn Michaels, razor Ramon Ayo match Ladder match.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, fun fact, yes, fun fact. So Kentucky sent out their list of vanity plates that they wouldn't let get approved, and Ayo was one they would not let be approved.

Speaker 2:

Are you serious? I'm serious. What's wrong with that it?

Speaker 1:

came out a couple days ago. Ayo, it was A-O-A-Y-O-O-O-O and they said no, you can't have that Reza.

Speaker 3:

Ramon.

Speaker 1:

What's wrong with that.

Speaker 3:

I'll be riding around in my convertible.

Speaker 2:

This state sometimes.

Speaker 1:

I know, unbelievable.

Speaker 2:

What about other memories, whether they're good, bad or indifferent from WrestleMania?

Speaker 3:

Because I their memories, whether they're good, bad or indifferent from wrestlemania. Because I'll jump in with a bad one. Oh no, I'm sure you've got several of those. I would say you know, and I've not watched any of that stuff in years. Right, the last yep, it's not been good in the last 10 years I actually watched wrestlemania last year.

Speaker 2:

It was the first wrestling that I had watched in 10, 15 years probably was it any good, um good. There were a couple of good matches. It was again a two night kind of a deal. I was at my buddy's house in Florida who's a big wrestling fan, so we ended up watching. That was the Roman Reigns.

Speaker 3:

He's been the champion forever. I can't get into any of this new stuff.

Speaker 2:

It was him versus Cody Rhodes who For the title.

Speaker 1:

Who.

Speaker 2:

You don't know who Cody.

Speaker 1:

Rhodes is who's Cody Rhodes?

Speaker 2:

Cody Rhodes is the son Of who? Of the American dream, dustin Rhodes son.

Speaker 1:

And let me tell you something I'm glad we could bring him in. It took me a while. Let me tell you something.

Speaker 2:

Whether it be Rickey Flair or Roman Reigns, you're going to get all that you can get from the Rhodes family. You understand. Now, if you will, I have one thing to say about Roman Reigns. Roman Reigns has had the belt too long, son.

Speaker 1:

He's had it long time. He is not the son of a plumber.

Speaker 2:

He's definitely not the son of a plumber. He's definitely not the grandson of a plumber. So Cody Rhodes, that title is going to be around his waist soon son.

Speaker 3:

Just for the record, I think I'm covered in spit now.

Speaker 1:

But Dustin can get excited when he gets going. I mean, I never heard him get that excited about.

Speaker 2:

Dustin Rhodes. I mean, it's his grandson, or it's his grandson, or it's his son.

Speaker 3:

It's his son. He never got that excited. And, by the way, he has a lisp as well. Yeah, he does. He has a little bit of a speech impediment as well, is it an impediment or is it an awesomeness?

Speaker 1:

Is it a speech?

Speaker 2:

awesomeness. I mean come on. No, that was a pretty good match last year, what about?

Speaker 1:

your worst matches.

Speaker 2:

WrestleMania 2, all of them, all of them.

Speaker 1:

Mr T and Rowdy, I'll take that back.

Speaker 2:

There was a tag team match for the belts. That was really good. My favorites were Greg the Hammer, valentine, bruce Beefcake. They defended the titles Against the British Bulldogs and lost. It was a really good match. I like the and lost. It was a really good match though I liked the British Bulldogs. That was a really really good match.

Speaker 1:

Because they had a British Bulldog or English.

Speaker 2:

Bulldog Matilda.

Speaker 1:

She was a good time.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I should have done. Fun fact what was the name of their?

Speaker 1:

I could have got that one.

Speaker 2:

So, anyway, every other match in WrestleMania 2 was terrible. First of all, it was on a Monday night Stupid, I mean, the dumbest thing of all time, because you want kids to watch it.

Speaker 1:

So definitely do it on Monday night when they go to school the next day.

Speaker 2:

And then they had it over three different locations. It was like Chicago, new York or Long Island and California.

Speaker 3:

It's like Elvis is live from Hawaii right.

Speaker 1:

It was like four matches at each place place and some of the matches were just I mean. So I assume at those places they had the big screen that played the other matches, right, I mean, still that's just a dumb.

Speaker 2:

It was dumb and and you know the three different main events. One was a royal rumble between wrestlers and football players seems right, just terrible. Uh. One was the uh uh, the boxing match between piper and Mr T, and that was just all clubber Lang was a clubber like clubber Lang.

Speaker 2:

And then you think you're going to get saved because the other main event is Hulk Hogan versus King bunny in a cage match, worst cage match of all time, I mean it was just. It was unwatchable, so much so that it was 28 years until vince mcmahon allowed a cage match to occur in another wrestlemania was it was terrible was the undertaker and mankind's um.

Speaker 3:

Hell in a cell that was. That was hell in a cell, that's right.

Speaker 2:

That's the one that everybody remembers, yeah and if we're going to talk top three matches just for wow factor of all time that's gotta be top two but WrestleMania two was an embarrassment.

Speaker 2:

Um I, I actually attended WrestleMania eight in Indianapolis, indiana. That was, uh, it was really interesting to be there. It was not, I mean, not one of the most memorable or anything. It was a dual main event Sid Justice versus Hulk Hogan and the Macho man versus Ric Flair. Ric Flair was the champion at the time. It was good, it was great to be there. Who had won WrestleMania I? Wrestlemania I was a tag team match between Mr Wonderful Paul Orndorff.

Speaker 1:

He could do a great power driver.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, with Cowboy Bob Orton in their corner, versus Hulk Hogan and Mr T and Piper wouldn't do the job in WrestleMania. I so the famous thing in that Mr T couldn't wrestle and Piper hated him in real life and Piper just wanted to beat him up. But at one point in the match Piper put him in real life and Piper just wanted to beat him up, but at one point in the match Piper let him put him in a fireman's carry and so he's. You know, mr T spun Piper around a little bit but there was no, like you know, great ending to that match or anything. But that was the rock and wrestling time. You know it's the rock and wrestling connection.

Speaker 2:

Snee Lauper was there and all that so um you said, captain lou albano, captain, lou albano, yeah good time captain lou was the man. Yes, like that beard, yeah uh, with rubber bands that's awesome.

Speaker 1:

That's what did it so yeah, those are mine, any any others for you guys uh, what are my least favorite matches and I actually looked forward to it because it was two guys I thought were not great wrestlers but I thought it would be a good match was the Brock Lesnar and Goldberg match because they were both great and it was just terrible. Neither one of them wanted to be there, Neither one of them did anything. It was just terrible. I mean, they got booed on the stage.

Speaker 3:

I mean you've got two monstrous guys that, let's face it weren't On the stage. I mean you've got two monstrous guys that let's face it weren't. They were just sheer brute strength.

Speaker 1:

They weren't finesse guys Right, and should the Undertaker's streak have ended?

Speaker 2:

And I'm glad you brought that up, because how can we talk about WrestleMania without the Undertaker's streak Right?

Speaker 1:

Should his streak have ended?

Speaker 2:

I don't think so, me either. I thought to.

Speaker 3:

Brock Lesnar yeah, come on.

Speaker 1:

No, that was not good I mean make somebody else do it, let it be. If you're going to get him beat, let it be Shawn Michaels or somebody like that Bingo, not Brock Lesnar. Nobody likes that guy, I would argue at this point who was the greatest celebrity appearance at WrestleMania?

Speaker 2:

Mike Tyson. I would disagree, but that's okay.

Speaker 3:

He was a special guest referee.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, 100%.

Speaker 1:

I wasn't ready for this one. This is a good one.

Speaker 2:

How about I throw one out?

Speaker 3:

Liberace, liberace, wrestlemania 1. Liberace was good.

Speaker 2:

I'll go with Billy Martin was at WrestleMania 1. It's just weird. That's weird. I'm going to go with someone who was at multiple WrestleManias and got either choked it wasn't choked slammed I think it was powerbomb. Not young. No, even better Pete Rose Multiple WrestleManias.

Speaker 1:

I did not know that.

Speaker 2:

That's fantastic you. You got chokeslammed. Oh, it was. Either it was either kane or the undertaker I hope one of our listeners can comment on this and tell us who or what, what it was, or if we can google it but I'll text pete rose multiple wrestlemanias and I think it was either, like I said, kane or the Undertaker show up. And you know Pete was.

Speaker 1:

Kane. Kane attacked him in WrestleMania. Looks like 14. Okay, that's fantastic.

Speaker 3:

I didn't know that.

Speaker 1:

Yes, and then Kane tombstoned him in WrestleMania 15. There you go.

Speaker 3:

That probably explains. Have you seen Pete speak lately?

Speaker 2:

That explains a lot. His neck's got shortened too. Yeah, have you seen Pete speak lately that?

Speaker 3:

explains a lot. His necks got shortened too. Hey, we can't go on this without mentioning WrestleMania 13. Yeah, one of the matches you'll see on TV a lot, especially when they talk about the WrestleManias, where you see where it was Bret Hart versus Stone Cold, steve Austin. That was a no disqualification, tap out match only, and if you remember, that's the one where Stone Cold's just covered in blood.

Speaker 2:

Oh yeah.

Speaker 3:

And ends up passing out on the mat right Quote unquote passing out on the mat when. Bret Hart got him in the sharpshooter and again, I'm not a submission guy, but that's one you've got to mention because they went on for like 25 minutes. Yeah, I mean just beating the crap out of each other. Yeah each other. Yeah and um, I don't know how stone colt got cut. That's just crazy to me how he got cut. But I'm sure he bladed.

Speaker 1:

I'm sure he did too, but there's only one. When you talk about wrestling, why was there not a wrestlemania in which they had the 60 minute man? Yeah, go 60 minutes.

Speaker 2:

That's true, rick flair, I mean, he's a 60 minute man, I wonder, I wonder what's the longest wrestling wrestling match at wrestlemania ever was I don't know.

Speaker 3:

I can tell you what the shortest one was, what it was like six seconds.

Speaker 2:

Was it Honky Tonk man getting beat by With a guitar?

Speaker 1:

I was not a Honky Tonk man fan. You know who else was not a Honky Tonk man fan who's that?

Speaker 3:

Was it Jake the Snake? Roberts, or one of them? Despises him because, remember, he hit him with a guitar and it wasn't a prop guitar, oh yeah and jacked him up, got him hooked on pain pills. That's Jake the Snake. Yeah, got him hooked on pain pills and to this day he said I'll kill him.

Speaker 2:

Shawn Michaels versus Bret Hart WrestleMania 12. One hour one minute and 56 seconds, good God.

Speaker 3:

Shawn Michaels was a part of a lot of good long matches.

Speaker 1:

The funniest match I ever saw Shawn Michaels do was the one he oversold everything with. Hogan.

Speaker 3:

Oh yeah, oh yeah.

Speaker 1:

I mean Hogan kicks him, he jumps over the top rope and things like that it was good too.

Speaker 2:

I'm trying to see if there are any other really long ones, but no, so well, that was fun boys, thank you.
