28: Monisha Rao: Unassuming, Driven, Balanced

Bindia

Monisha Rao is a pediatrician in Southern California.  She immigrated to the US along with her family about 40 years ago after finishing tenth grade in India. She is married and a mother of two adult children.

Monisha’s story is different than most in that she came here at the age of 15, a difficult age for a transition like that, while not even having been involved in the decision to move. She then faced and overcame the unique and difficult challenges that came with that, each step making her stronger, and fulfilled her dream of being a physician - something she had been dreaming of since she was a child.

Her philosophy on life is one of balance, gentleness and humility, while at the same time rooted in strength, courage and generosity. Her steady drive to achieve what she deems important while not forgetting to have fun, is inspiring! When I ask her questions on identity and heritage, Monisha fully immerses herself into an introspective mode and shares her thoughts and feelings with deep earnestness and sincerity.
