Speaker 1:

Welcome to Desire is Medicine. We are two very different women living a life led by desire, inviting you into our world.

Speaker 2:

I'm Brenda. I'm a devoted practitioner to being my fully expressed true self in my daily life. Motherhood, relationships and my business Desire has taken me on quite a ride and every day I practice listening to and following the voice within.

Speaker 1:

I'm a middle school teacher turned coach and guide of the feminine, and I'm Catherine, devoted to living my life as the truest and hopefully the highest version of me. I don't have children. I've never been married. I've spent equal parts of my life in corporate, as in some down and low shady spaces. I was the epitome of tired and wired and my path led me to explore desire. I'm a coach, guide, energy worker and a forever student, even after decades of inner work.

Speaker 2:

We are humble beginners on the mat, still exploring, always curious. We believe that listening to and following the nudge of desire is a deep spiritual practice that helps us grow.

Speaker 1:

On the Desires Medicine podcast. We talk to each other, we interview people we know and love about the practice of desire, bringing in a very important piece that is often overlooked being responsible for our desire. Piece that is often overlooked being responsible for our desire. Welcome, welcome listeners. Here I am today with Brenda. We are so excited for today's edition. Hey, brenda, hey. So today we are doing another toolbox edition. Toolbox editions are just mini episodes where we will share tools and practices that help you play with desire.

Speaker 1:

So many of us are just going through life ticking off the boxes it's either of our to-do list or whatever boxes society has told us to tick in order to be successful. A good person, get from point A to point B, blah, blah, blah. I often find myself speaking to clients about what they want. At first everybody's like oh, I know what I want. I want a car, big or bad or better, that kind of thing. But when we start to dig deeper, that's when the truth starts to bubble up about what they really want. Right On previous episodes, brenda and I have talked about Desireless.

Speaker 1:

It's a self-practice where you can lean in and allow yourself some time, some journaling time. It's just you and you to get some of your deeper desires out. But today we get to do something a little bit different. How cool would it be if you could do this with the person of your choosing. So wouldn't it be great if you could just have a practice where you and a friend, somebody you choose, right, you can just do a desire digging practice with each other. So that's what we are talking about today, people. We are talking desire pulls. Now, just for behind the scenes, brenda and I did not create this practice. We adopted this practice. You may have heard us do it before. You may have even done it with one of us or maybe somebody else. It's not ours, but we are still sharing the love. Brenda, bring it in. Let everybody know what desire pulls are. She's so good at this, guys, I'm so excited for you.

Speaker 2:

You make it sound so good, catherine. I'm so excited about this one and I'm glad that you brought up the desire list practice. That is episode 23. If anyone wants to go back and listen to it, that's where you actually are making a desire list. You could do that one by yourself or with friends. This one is specifically designed to do in connection. So grab a girlfriend, ask someone if they would like to do a desire practice with you, set a time, make a date. If you want to do it over Zoom, that's great. Or maybe you want to make it more special and meet up at a coffee shop or your favorite restaurant or somewhere that is special for you.

Speaker 2:

You're going to each take a turn. You're each going to get a turn, being the space holder and the one who states her desires. So here's how you do the practice. Person A is going to be the space holder first. Person A is going to set a timer for five minutes, and then person A asks person B what do you desire? And then person B answers whatever it is that she desires a new car, to speak the truth, new boots, whatever it is that she wants. And then you say thank you and then you continue asking what do you desire? Let her answer. Thank you, what do you desire? You keep doing that for five minutes until the timer goes off.

Speaker 2:

The thing about it, as the space holder, is, you are truly being a space holder. Don't interrupt her. It's not a conversation. Don't react, don't laugh. It's a lot of sensation to hold someone's desires but really just sit solid. I like to think of it like a bird's nest. You're just holding it, it's solid. It's somewhere for her to rest in and share her desires.

Speaker 2:

The end of the five minutes you say time is up and you could bless her desires. I like to say something like so shall your desires be, and even better than you could bless her desires. I like to say something like so shall your desires be, and even better than you can possibly even imagine. Okay, now you're going to debrief. You're going to ask her how did that feel to share your desires? And she'll answer and did anything surprise you?

Speaker 2:

Now, when you do this part, I want to say you want to keep it short and tight. You're only doing the desire pulls for five minutes, so you don't want to debrief and talk about it for 20. This is one or two sentences. The point is to be tight and keep it potent. After that, you're going to switch directions. Take a moment to breathe, switch directions and then she holds space for you, so you both have a chance to be the space holder and share your desires. Okay, so we are going to demo this for you, catherine, are you ready? Yeah, yeah, I am ready. All right, so I'm going to hold space for you first, fun.

Speaker 2:

It is fun For the practice of this, since this is a toolbox edition, it's a mini episode. We're just going to do one minute. We recommend that you, as a listener, do five minutes.

Speaker 1:

I also want to caveat that sometimes when people are doing this practice, five minutes might feel long. So if, for some reason, you know you're doing it for one or two minutes and you want to complete, you just let the person know I'm complete. Actually, I'll do that. When you give me, when you say time, I'll just say I'm complete, okay, great.

Speaker 2:

Also, I want to say that one minute can seem like a long time when you're doing this practice.

Speaker 1:

It will.

Speaker 2:

I'm getting ready for a long time. Right now, yeah, and that really is a great point, because, especially if this is your, if you're just new to desire, one minute or two minutes might be enough, and if you've been practicing desire for a long time, you might just want longer.

Speaker 1:

It's a lot as the desires are popping up for you. It's a lot to feel like it. There's a sensation that starts to happen inside of your body that the deeper you get where it becomes uncomfortable and you'll start to feel yourself taking a little longer and longer to answer.

Speaker 2:

But yeah, I'm ready, exactly, great, okay, catherine, are you ready? I'm ready, thank you. What do you desire? Water, thank you. What do you desire? A blanket, thank you. What do you desire? A foot massage, thank you. What do you desire? Chiropractic adjustment, thank you. What do you desire? What do you desire? Chiropractic adjustment, thank you. What do you desire? Speaker 2:

Speaker 1:

Some water.

Speaker 2:

Thank you. What do you desire?

Speaker 1:

A car.

Speaker 2:

Thank you. And last one what do you desire?

Speaker 1:

To hug my nephew.

Speaker 2:

Thank you, and this completes your desires for now. You're welcome. How did that feel to share your desires? It felt good.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I felt some tingling in my chest and there was a moment before I said car where I could just feel myself kind of get weightier in the chair.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, thank you, and did anything surprise you?

Speaker 1:

The cranial sacral massage surprised me. I was like, oh, I think I'm looking to stretch, like I could feel, as I said, cranial sacral massage. I could almost feel like, oh, I think my head is tight. It was a weird sensation. Yeah, beautiful Thank you. Thank you, brenda, are you ready?

Speaker 2:

I am ready.

Speaker 1:

Okay, I'm going to get my timer set and ready. Brenda, what do you desire? Sushi, thank you. What do you desire? A beach vacation, thank you. What do you desire?

Speaker 2:

A beach vacation.

Speaker 1:

Thank you. What do you desire? To go swimming, thank you. What do you desire?

Speaker 2:

A four-handed massage.

Speaker 1:

Thank you. What do you desire?

Speaker 2:

To speak the truth that comes up in the moment.

Speaker 1:

Thank you, what do you desire To visit my daughter?

Speaker 2:

Thank, you, what do you desire For my son to come to dinner tomorrow night?

Speaker 1:

Thank you. What do you desire?

Speaker 2:

A bath, a hot bath with salt and lavender essential oil.

Speaker 1:

Thank you. What do you desire? A head massage, thank you. What do you desire? A new bedspread, thank you. What do you desire? A new bedspread, thank you. What do you?

Speaker 2:

desire New boots, thank you. What do you desire? A trip with friends where I go buy a colorful suit.

Speaker 1:

Thank you, and that concludes our poll. That was fun. How did that feel for you?

Speaker 2:

that was fun. How did that feel for you? It felt really great. A minute is a long time.

Speaker 1:

It is.

Speaker 2:

It felt, it felt really vulnerable and also good, felt really good to get my desires out. Did anything surprise you? I don't think anything surprised me. I think I feel really clear on my desires. Nothing really surprised me. That came up. That's great. What surprised me was when I was listening to yours I was like, oh, I want to create a craniosacral massage. Thank you, may you have it, and even more. Ah, thank you so much. I love that. Other ways I like to bless desires. You can, people can do it. However you want. Another way that I like to do is so may so shall your desires be, and even better than you could possibly even imagine, all at the speed of pussy and in the highest good of all.

Speaker 1:

That's a mouthful. It is a mouthful, okay, so hopefully our listeners got a kick out of that. Usually it's fun and light. I can't say that I have had something where it's uncomfortable. It hasn't been my experience. But we have to be open for possibilities, right. That maybe it would really provide, maybe bring up some things for somebody, maybe there would be tears, maybe there's laughter, maybe there's something that occurs, and there's no perfection, right, but the intent is for this to be fun.

Speaker 2:

Mm-hmm. Exactly and connected. Yes, it's a fun way to get your desires out into the world and it's really great to have girlfriends who are backing your desires, a thousand percent, who are backing your desires.

Speaker 1:

A thousand percent. So this is a fun, connected way to play with desire and like get our desires out into the world, Just how you and I practice right now, like it could be inspiring. I said craniosacral. You're like oh yeah, I think I want to do that. And what is your favorite way, Brenda, to like ground your desires, Would you say? The desire pull has you ground your desires. It gets it out of my head.

Speaker 2:

I think what I love about this practice and the desire list is that it gets it out of your head. Sometimes these things are swirling around and they could drive us a little bit crazy, but you get it out, either onto paper with the desire list or with a girlfriend, and it gets it out, and then you can just let it go and follow the breadcrumbs of your life and maybe it will come to you, or maybe you'll just have an adventure along the way.

Speaker 1:

I love this so much. Thank you so much, Brenda and listeners, I trust that you will love this practice as much as we do, that you'll be able to easily introduce a practice like this of your own into your own life with some girlfriends and just find a way to get connected in that practice. I'd also like to take this time to invite you to our next free event that we will be hosting on Thursday, April 11th at 7 pm Eastern Standard Time. The link to register will be in the show notes. As always, let us know how this toolbox edition landed for you. If there were any takeaways, any ahas, we'd love to know, and for now that's all.

Speaker 1:
