139. Race, religion and culture and the development of Eating Disorders w/ Brianna Theus, RDN, CDN
ABOUT THIS EPISODE
In this episode, we had a fascinating discussion between Meg and Brianna. The two discuss the complex ways that race, religion, and culture connect with the development of eating disorders. By sharing her personal story, Brianna sheds light on her challenges and how they influenced her career as a specialist. As a dietician from Haiti, she considers the significant influence of her identity on her profession and considers the crucial moment when a black therapist's advice got her started. The pair explores the significant impact that traditional cuisine and cultural assimilation have on adults who are struggling with eating problems. In addition, Brianna discusses the significance of religion and argues for greater diversity in the dietetics sector, highlighting the necessity of change.
