Speaker 1:

Speaker 2:

Welcome, good Neighbors, episode number 178 of the Good Neighbor Podcast Estero. Today we have Good Neighbor Dr Kyra Jimenez from Sixth Sense Dental Welcome.

Speaker 3:

Thank you, cabo, thanks for having me today.

Speaker 2:

Absolutely Always good to get to know people here in the neighborhood, and I'm excited to learn a little bit more about you. So, without further ado, let's jump right in. And why don't you share a little bit about what you do over at Sixth Sense Dental?

Speaker 3:

Sure, I'm working alone with Dr Victoria Rando at Sixth Sense Dental in Bonita Springs. She's the owner and the only doctor Now. I joined a team with her and we provide a wide range of dental services, including general dentistry, invisalign, implant and cosmetic procedures. Our clinic focuses on delivering personalized care and ensuring our patients receive the best possible treatment.

Speaker 2:

Very good, I love that. So how did you get involved in the dental industry?

Speaker 3:

Well, so I did my bachelor's degree in nutrition science. I did it at FIU in Miami, and then I got my dental degree at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale. Very nice, very nice. And then I got my dental degree at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale.

Speaker 2:

Very nice, very nice. And then how did you end up in Southwest Florida?

Speaker 3:

Oh well, my brother moved. I mean, I'm from Venezuela, as you can tell I have an accent. So my brother moved from Venezuela to Orlando at the beginning and then we just got familiarized with South Florida. And then my boyfriend at the time that now is my husband he moved to Miami. He started working over there and then I moved with him and just like growing over there in Miami and I heard so much good things about Naples, bonita and Springs and Fort Myers, and then we ended up right here.

Speaker 2:

Very nice. Yeah, it's beautiful down here. That's why we all live down here. We love it. So, everybody's had some type of challenge or maybe obstacle along their journey to get where they are today. Is there something that happened along your journey that you can look back at now and you know? I want to say, maybe not grateful, you went through it, but you went through it and you survived and you're here and it puts you where you are today. Is there something that happened along your journey?

Speaker 3:

Yes, of course, and as I said before, I'm from Venezuela. I was born and I was raised in Venezuela. I moved here to the United States about 10 years ago, so this has been one of the biggest challenge of my life. You know, leaving behind my home, my culture and having to learn a new language was scary. We speak Spanish over there in Venezuela, so I had to learn English, so that, I think, requires a lot of courage and adaptability to rebuild my life from scratch here in a new country. So this has taught me to overcome fears, to never give up and fight for my dreams. So since I was living in Venezuela, I knew I wanted to be a dentist, and the best way to approach it was coming here and become a dentist here, and I think that was the best decision moving from Venezuela to here and it was challenging, as I said, but now I'm really happy and I'm proud of myself that I did it.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, congrats. It's never easy picking up from where you grew up and then moving away and moving to a new place where you don't know anything, but you've done very well for yourself. So are there any maybe myths or maybe misconceptions surrounding the dental industry that we could maybe clear up for our listeners?

Speaker 3:

um, yeah, there are a couple, but the one I think that, um, I'm hearing the most is about dental x-rays. People think that exposing, like having dental x-rays, will expose them to a harmful level of radiation, and in reality, dental x-rays are safe when we perform those with water equipment and proper techniques, and the benefits of dental x-rays in diagnosing oral health issues outweighs the small amount of radiation that we expose. By doing this dental x-ray, we can detect problem early and be able to treat them beforehand.

Speaker 2:

Absolutely. And that's a good one because a lot of people are scared, not just to go to the dentist but for the x-rays as well, too. So I mean you've been in industry for a while. Do you see any new trends within the industry?

Speaker 3:

I think what is what we can see the most now is like smile design, cosmetic dentistry, veneers I think that's one top, yeah, like top three procedures start. It's now trending, like veneers, smile design. Everyone wants to have the Hollywood smile, so I think that's one. And then in BC line as well, it's like the clear aligners um market. It's. It's big now. Everyone has to have their teeth. As I said, like hollywood smile, some people like to do the design but others want to like strain their teeth and use um invisalign for that very nice, very nice.

Speaker 2:

So I know you. You know, being a, being a doctor, being a dentist, takes up a lot of your time, so it's very demanding. What do you enjoy doing outside of work when you get a minute?

Speaker 3:

Outside of work, I enjoy having like a life, like active lifestyle. I've been playing tennis since I was a kid back in Venezuela and that's still one of my favorite hobbies. I also do some Pilates after work, but of course, if I live here, I enjoy going to the beach. I love going to the beach with my dog and my husband. I think it's a peaceful place where we enjoy time together Absolutely and I'm not going to ask you your favorite beach because we don't want to give that away to everybody right, peaceful place where we enjoy time together, absolutely, and I'm not going to ask you your favorite beach, because we don't want to give that away to everybody, right?

Speaker 2:

We want to keep it a secret. So, is there one thing you wish our listeners knew about Sixth Sense Dental that maybe they don't know?
