49 - Ka Wai Yeung - Founder & Social Impact Architect

Season 1 Episode 49

Ka Wai is an architect and co-founder of Kaunitz Yeung Architecture, where she works alongside her husband, David Kaunitz. Together, they are dedicated to creating socially responsible, culturally sensitive, and humane architecture. Ka Wai’s work focuses on co-designing with communities in need, including remote Indigenous areas, the Pacific Islands, and post-disaster regions across the Asia Pacific.

Her career began at HASSELL Studio, followed by five years at PTW Architects, specialising in health, aged care, and housing. She is also involved in academia, serving on the UTS School of Architecture Industry Advisory Panel and regularly lecturing at universities and conferences.

Born in Hong Kong and educated in New Zealand and Australia, Ka Wai bridges her Chinese heritage with modern architectural practices. Her work has earned international recognition, including prestigious awards like the UIA Vassilis Sgoutas Prize for humanitarian architecture.

Ka Wai’s passion lies in projects that extend beyond physical design, aiming to deliver social and economic benefits to the communities they serve.
