Speaker 1:

feeling that joy, feeling that excitement, being like oh my gosh, this is so cool, I want to keep going. Hello and welcome to the Confident Musicianing Podcast. I'm your host, eleanor, and after countless practice sessions, a ton of broken reeds and seven different music school acceptances in three different countries, I have learned a thing or two about savoring your practicing trees. I have learned a thing or two about savoring your practicing, becoming your best practice companion and actively working towards your musical goals, and I want to share this with you because I want you to become your best musical self. Are you with me on this? Let's get started. Get started. Hey there, and welcome back to the Confident Musicianing podcast.

Speaker 1:

Joyfulness is why we started playing music in the first place. I remember the first time I picked up an oboe and played a note, even though, let's be honest, it was not the prettiest note. The rush of joy I felt was enough for me to keep going and work hard at oboe. This is probably the case for you when you started playing your instrument feeling that joy, feeling that excitement, being like oh my gosh, this is so cool, I want to keep going. But as musicians, it is so easy for us to really just focus on the technical stuff and the nitty-gritty and get really perfectionist and all of a sudden that joy is a bit farther away than we've realized. So today we are going to chat about ways that we can find that joy. Let's find that joy for you. I remember the first time I knew I wanted to be a professional oboist. It was at a middle school band concert and I had just finished performing a piece that a friend and I had wrote. We stood up and received a standing ovation and in that moment I felt so much joy. It was so amazing. This feeling of connection to the audience. It was, oh my gosh, absolutely amazing. And after that I knew that I needed to chase this feeling. Since then, after my performances, I can feel that joy At Confident Musicianing. My mission is to fuel your confidence, to help you achieve your musical goals. Through the podcast, different series that we have and guides, you are equipped with the resources that you need. Today we are discovering some of these resources to get you on track.

Speaker 1:

This is the second episode of a three-part series. The others are all about practicing more strategically, which came out a few weeks ago I think two weeks ago and the next one is going to be all about preparing for auditions, but this one is about finding joy in music. Let's dive in. The first thing is finding joy through celebration.

Speaker 1:

It is so easy to get tired as a musician. We fixate over all of the small things and feel like we need to be perfect. Oftentimes we never take a second to look back at all the amazing things that we have achieved. We never celebrate ourselves. I mean, think about it for a second. When's the last time that you, like, celebrated yourself?

Speaker 1:

The first time I heard the idea of celebrating myself was a friend of mine. She was telling me about celebrating myself. This is something that she does so much and it really, really helps her, and I was kind of like what are you talking about? Celebrating yourself? Like what is this idea? But then, since I started doing it, oh my gosh. It is so helpful to keep me having that joy in music and to also just help me stay focused and excited, which is why we have the Standing Ovation series.

Speaker 1:

This series is for you, to help you celebrate yourself and find that joy. It shows you how you can celebrate yourself. This is a three-day email series where every day, you get an email from me celebrating your hard work for that day and encouraging you for the next day. I know that taking a second to celebrate you is hard. As a musician, I mean, we all get that. We are all very busy. So here's an easy way to do it.

Speaker 1:

The standing ovation series is so much fun and some people who have already done it have come back to me and, like, told me about their experience with the series. For instance, we have Nicholas who said your standing ovation series did the trick. It gave me added encouragement to challenge and surprise myself. That's from Nicholas. And we also have Kaylin who said I got to get back to my oboe and sounded quite okay after a long time of no practice. I mean, you know what it feels like when we have a break and then we get back into it. That is a huge win. And when you come back and you tell me these things about your experiences with the, with the different confident musicianing series or the podcast, oh my gosh, it makes my day day. It is so amazing. So those are two things that the people who have done the series have said. So if you want to celebrate yourself, check the show notes. It is waiting for you.

Speaker 1:

Part of finding joy is getting that spark into your practicing. In this episode of the Confident Musician podcast, we chat about just that and how you can do it for you. This episode the one that we're talking about, not the one that you're listening to is titled Three Quick Ways to Get the Spark into your Practice. We chat about things like changing your atmosphere. How you can do that, how you can play for people, for feedback, to find that spark and celebrating your wins. This episode is about 10 minutes long and is literally perfect to download and listen to on the go for whatever you're doing, whether you are going to rehearsal or you are walking to school, or literally just if you want to sit in a park or just chill and listen to this episode. If you want to sit in a park or just chill and listen to this episode, it is perfect for you to just download and listen to wherever and whenever you want to. So click the link in the show notes it is right down there so that you can listen to this episode and find that spark, because, seriously, sometimes we need that spark in our practice. There is nothing that can bring joy like motivation.

Speaker 1:

This third thing is a roundup of exciting musical things to get you inspired and joyful in your music. I personally love creating roundups for you. Basically, it is a compilation of encouraging musical things to get you motivated and excited to practice. Get you motivated and excited to practice. I have scoured the internet for you for ways to help you feel more inspired by seeing other people and, oh my gosh, that can be so, so, so helpful. It includes things like videos from cool musicians, opportunities for you and much more. So if that sounds like your cup of tea, make sure you click that link in the show notes to get that roundup.

Speaker 1:

All right, let's do a recap, shall we? Okay, the first thing is finding joy through celebration, and that is the Standing Ovation series. This series is three days, one email per day encouraging you and celebrating your efforts. Seriously, if you have never celebrated yourself before and celebrated your wins before, this is the time to start, and the Standing Ovation series is the perfect way of doing that.

Speaker 1:

The next thing is this episode of the Confident Musician podcast, not the one you're listening to, the one we're talking about.

Speaker 1:

I know that's kind of confusing, but this episode is titled Three Quick Ways to Get the Spark into your Practice. It is all about how you can get that spark of joy and excitement into your practice. So make sure you go check the show notes for it. And the last thing is a roundup of motivation. This is stuff from different areas of the internet videos from people on Instagram all the way to different opportunities for you and things that you can do to really get excited and inspired and find that joy.

Speaker 1:

That is in the show notes. All right, that's about it for this episode. Thank you so much for hanging out with me. That is so lovely. As always, all of the links and stuff will be in the show notes, from all of these links that we've talked about the Standing Ovation series, this episode of the podcast and the roundup all the way to the blog post that goes with this episode. That's all going to be in the show notes, so make sure you go check that out because there's some good stuff in there. And if you enjoyed this episode of the podcast, make sure you give it a follow and I will see you in the next episode. Bye.
