Episode 2: Gaza - The Crisis of our Humanity
Nov 03, 2023
Nathan, Caleb & Morris

In this podcast episode, we delve into two significant developments in the world of politics and international affairs. Firstly, we discuss the long-anticipated selection of a new Speaker of the House by the Republican Party in the US.

Secondly, we provide an update on the ongoing conflict in Gaza and its implications for the region and the world.

We start by highlighting the  uncertainty and internal party debates that have characterized the Republican Party's search for a new Speaker of the House. Following the ousting of the previous Speaker, Kevin McCarthy, the party has been divided on choosing a successor. We explore the importance of the Speaker of the House in the U.S. political system and how history shaped Matt Gaetz motion that ousted McCarthy, and how the Democrats can learn from it and if the apparent disunity within the Republican party will cost them votes.

We then transition to the international stage, focusing on the ongoing conflict in Gaza following the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7th. We explore the Israeli 'response' and the disappointing international response from media and Western powers alike, to the conflict and the implications faced by the Palestinian people. This includes the humanitarian toll, the impact on civilian populations, and the long-term consequences of the conflict.

Lastly, we examine the complexities of the wide ranging views held within the Jewish community, and what role the atrocities of the past play in todays continuing conflict.
