Summer Episode 18
Today we discuss Soil Testing and soil amending. A fascinating subject, we barely scratch the surface of the topic but we will have a follow-up discussion with Hamish from Seacliff Organics later in the month.
Garden tasks this week - we are in the Barren Period until the 6th & 7th when it’s the ideal time to direct sowing root crops.
Todays Tea is a 'blend', suited to enjoying after a big meal, as a digestif
1 tsp dried mint leaves
1 tsp fennel seeds
1 tsp dried ginger root (I used fresh and it was lovely) Also very tasty served iced.
Add boiling water and steep for 8-10 mins
Our Vegetable of the week is the Tokyo Turnip
Glossary Term - Cultivar - A cultivar is a kind of cultivated plant that growers have selected for desired genetic traits and which retains those traits when propagated. the reason for this is to develop certain characteristics for example productivity, growth rate, beauty (flowers), and resistance to certain diseases. The term Variety is also used interchangeably with cultivar.
