Speaker 1:

Hey there, radiant Seekers, welcome to another episode of Unleash your Inner Radiance, the podcast where we empower smart-ass educators to unapologetically smash barriers, embrace their unique energetic wisdom and tap into the endless peace that is always available to us. I'm your host, lisa, and I am your life wellness and transformation coach, and today is Mindset Monday. We are going to dive into one of my favorite topics because, like all of these are my favorite topics, so I should really stop saying that right, expressing emotions, whether it is through journaling or chatting with a trusted friend. We are going to explore how these practices can help you release, reflect and radiate. So grab a cup of tea or coffee coffee's my favorite. Get comfy and let's unleash that inner radiance. Coffee's my favorite. Get comfy and let's unleash that inner radiance.

Speaker 1:

Today we're going to talk about the power of expressing emotions, so let's kick this off by talking about why expressing our emotions is so very important. As educators and busy professionals, we often juggle a million things at once and it's really easy to push our feelings aside, but trust me when I say bottling them up can lead to burnout and so much stress. By expressing our emotions, we can process them in a really healthy way. We can gain clarity and even find peace. So today let's look at two methods journaling and talking with a trusted friend. Create a personal sanctuary.

Speaker 1:

So first let's chat about journaling. This is one of my absolute favorite but toughest things to do. Favorite but toughest things to do. It's a really great way to express your emotions. It's like having a personal sanctuary where you can pour out your thoughts and feelings without judgment feelings without judgment. And you can do it in a way which is what I found easiest is to just like throw it, like vomit it up on the paper Because you just want to get that emotion out. You don't want to care about punctuation and words and stuff. It's kind of an odd way of journaling per se, but it's kind of what you just need to do, because when you are in that emotion, right, you need to find a way to express those feelings without judgment. So that is a really good way to do it. You're just getting it out and getting it onto paper and when you create that safe space for yourself to be so utterly honest and vulnerable, it helps in your transformation. You get to write about your day and your dreams and all of your frustrations, Absolutely anything that comes to mind. You know, a regular journal has you oh, be grateful for this. And what was this? What three things did you do today and what three things were you grateful for? But this way of journaling is just a whole different way and it is so incredibly powerful. So I want to give you guys a few tips on how you can actually do this, because I have started doing it and it's it's. It just brings out your creativeness. It's really a fun thing to do.

Speaker 1:

So find a quiet space, create, choose a space where you won't be interrupted. I mean, it doesn't need to be a long thing, it can be. You know, write for two pages. Just set something in your mind where I'm going to write, set an intention. I'm going to write two pages today. I'm going to write three pages today, and just it depends on what your emotion is and what.

Speaker 1:

But once you get writing, you just write and you just vomit words. And it could be, you know, a cozy spot in your home, or you could go to a park or even a coffee shop, whenever you just need to do it. Just find a piece of paper and set your intention and go. I am going to write for three pages because I need to express myself, I need to get this out and set a goal and do that. You can set a timer.

Speaker 1:

Sometimes starting can actually be the hardest part. So set a timer for 10 to 15 minutes where you're just literally sitting in peace and inside and just getting it all out. Don't worry about grammar, don't worry about spelling, like I told you before, just let your thoughts flow onto the paper, because putting them on paper helps clarify, release and do all the things. Be honest, because this is your time expression, this is you, this is what you need to get off of your chest, because remember that your journal and what you write here is just for you, just for you. So are you going to go back and read it? Maybe it's not going to make a lot of sense sometimes because you just kind of blurb. Lot of sense sometimes because you just kind of blurb, but you can be as raw as you can because this is your space to let it all out.

Speaker 1:

Then I want you to reflect. So you go through your 10, 15 minutes or you go through your three pages After you've written, reflect on how you're feeling. You can take a quick moment to kind of read over what you wrote. But you might find patterns of, let's say, insights or ideas or just see a pattern in your life that you maybe hadn't noticed before, especially after you've done them a few times. Because it's really cool to do this for a week. I've got this book called the Artist's Way. It gives you a little journaling prompts in there, but you literally sit and you write three pages and then at the end of the week you kind of take yourself on a little date, you go to the park, you just kind of reflect on the whole week and maybe, if you've seen patterns in it, it's kind of a really cool thing. So it's just. It's just the magic of it all, right.

Speaker 1:

So now let's talk about the magic of talking it out with somebody, somebody who is a trusted friend to you, because sharing your feelings with somebody who you trust on a magical level is just saying things out loud and just saying, hey, I need to bring a sense of relief and perspective to what is in my mind Right, perspective to what is in my mind right, and it's really sometimes hard to jumble it when it's in your mind. It's hard to figure out the direction you want to go when it's all up in your mind. So find a good friend who will listen without judgment, and that might be, excuse me, a little bit more difficult, but we don't want them to judge your feelings, we don't want them to do any of those things. You can just let out all of your stuff and talk through the problem, or the thing that you're going through is going to be so incredibly comforting. So find that person New perspectives, because you're sharing with somebody else other than yourself and just writing it down they could give you a new angle or insight that maybe you hadn't seen. Maybe you journaled about it for three minutes or three pages and you were like, dang, I still am not seeing what I need to see, to get to do to eliminate this expression, right, or this problem or this thought process that you're having in your head or this big thing that just happened to you. But that person might be able to give you a whole new perspective that maybe you weren't even thinking about it. And the other thing that happens is, by sharing your emotions with someone that you trust, that can deepen your bond with that person and it just you're confiding in them and you're creating a stronger support network, which all of us need.

Speaker 1:

But be careful, because you want to choose the right person. Now, it could be a brother, it could be a sister, or it could just be a friend. Make sure it's somebody who you know is supportive and understanding and one that has empathy and one that listens, because you want them to listen to what you need to say. So it could be a family friend, it could be a family member, it could be just a coach, a therapist, somebody who's going to listen to you, be clear on your needs, which you're saying okay, I'm having this emotion and you want me to be clear on my needs. No, but what I'm saying here is it is okay to just say I need to vent. I need to. I need to just say this because I've tried writing it on paper and I'm not seeing the vision or I'm not seeing how to get through this, and I just need to vent. I'm not looking for a solution right now. I just need to help manage my expectations right. So, by telling them this, by telling them just say, hey, I just need you to listen and not give judgment, but it will give your expect help. You set your expectations for both sides. But you know, just say I'm not looking for solutions, but I am looking for input and I just need to process this.

Speaker 1:

I want to share a quick story from my own life, because there are times that I am super overwhelmed or stuck and I'm. I started journaling and doing this whole word thing and I am actually following this book called the Artist's Way by Julia Cameron and what it. It's more like a spiritual path to higher creativity. So I did it more to try to bring out the creativeness in myself, and but it's like I just started in, they have you do it for a certain amount of time, in a certain number of pages, and they give you little prompts. So it's kind of cool, but but on top of that, you know, find a friend who you can talk to at any time, because combining these two practices really is transformative. It really truly is, and it helped me navigate through some really tough times and it's helping me gain a deeper understanding of who I am. So I'd love to hear your stories too. Have you found solace in journaling or just talking with a friend? Send me, please send me a message or a comment on my social media pages. Let's create a community of radiant seekers who support and uplift each other.

Speaker 1:

So before we go this morning, I of course have a affirmation for today, so it kind of perfectly fits with the theme of expressing emotions, journaling and connecting with others. So here it is. I honor my emotions and give them the space that they deserve. Through journaling, I allow myself thoughts and feelings to freely flow, embracing the clarity and peace that comes within self-reflection In moments of vulnerability. I trust in the strength of my connections, sharing my heart with those. I trust I am brave in my honesty and open in my journey. Each step I take, whether in solitude or with a friend, brings me closer to my true, radiant self.

Speaker 1:

Now take that and journal on that. I'm going to be putting together like a booklet of all my affirmations that I've been saying on Affirmation Monday, and now I have quite a few, so I'm going to put something like that together for you guys. So, beautiful souls, that is it for Bindset Monday. Remember, expressing your emotions is a powerful way to express and process and heal, whether you choose to journal or talk about it, find what works for you, find what works best for you and make it a regular practice.
