We have the Malort Challenge and, for all the newbies out there, what that is is this fine stuff right here on the table. Yeah, if you call into the show, then I have to take a drink of this delicious Malort, the worst tasting liquor there is. Here's my Mr Spock shot glass. So it hasn't been washed, it's, it's. It's actually. Yeah, it's pretty nasty. You should, you should see you really it's. It's good looking. But that's all part of it.
Speaker 1:Just trying to get engagement from everyone out there. Besides the Malort Challenge, we'll play Stump the Chump. It's not a drunk show, I'm not trying to get loaded, but again, it's to try to motivate or entice you to engage as a watch, as a viewer, listener, whatever you want to call it, okay, so, yeah, that's what we have going on. Again, it's Friday night, it is date night with me. What's going on? Oh, let's see. Okay, so I've been up since 1.30 this morning, all right, no naps, no, nothing. But I had a good week, good work week. And with that good week, good work week. And with that I'm going to send a shout out, which I never do. I never do this so professional. Well, let's just recap the last couple of shows, because I was just so excited about the last couple of episodes that we had. As you know, we didn't do Friday Night Live last week, and there's a very good reason why, and we'll get into that. So I'll start with last Saturday.
Speaker 1:I had Pepper Ann on the show and she's a true crime author. She has a book out, as a matter of fact. Let's see, there it is. I still have the book here on the table. Yep, it is the Notorious Texas Swindler, the Mastermind Behind the Grayson County Five.
Speaker 1:She was great, yeah, she was great. Yeah, she was great just the sweetheart of a woman, um, and had a lot of fun with her and we talked about. You know we obviously you know we're pitching the book and go out there and buy it. It's wherever books are available Amazon bookstores. It's available on her website. I think her website is pepperannauthorcom. I think so. But she was just great. We had a lot of fun. Of course, we talked about the book, pitched the book, we got into, of course, what the book is about. But I want you to go out and buy the book and read it for yourself. Oh, it's also available on ebook as well, or whatever you call it. So, yeah, she was just great. We talked about a lot of different stuff and getting text messages here, Uh, but she, um, yeah, we, we.
Speaker 1:I mean I didn't want, like I said, I didn't want her to give away too much of the book, cause I want you all to go out there and buy it and read it for yourself. But we talked about her, who she is, we talked about her family a little bit, but she rightfully so. Let me say this, because there's something that she really didn't say on the show, but we talked about it when we were off air and, no, I'm sorry, we actually talked about it in one of our phone calls. Speaker 1:We had a couple of conversations before we recorded our conversation and you know there's been a lot of threats on her life and on her family during this whole process of writing her book, so we didn't get really detailed about her family. Obviously, we didn't give any names, because she's trying to protect her family, rightfully, so I mean, I would too. So, yeah, but we got into some of her likes and you know what she likes to do and stuff like that. Good stuff. It's just, she's just a sweet woman. It was a great conversation that we had. So, as I was saying in regards to Pepper Ann, there was something she didn't want to reveal during our conversation, simply because she's trying to protect her family and keep some sort of privacy, ok, but nonetheless, such a sweetheart of a woman, go buy her book. All right, that's the bottom line. Go buy her book. All right, that's the bottom line.
Speaker 1:And then the other episode, the one before that, that was Adam Holland, lead guitarist of the Steve and Jerry band. But you know so many other things that Adam has done in his career as well, and we went through the whole. We went through his entire career and it was awesome. It was such a great conversation. Sorry, I've got this bean in my mouth here, so it's getting stuck on my teeth and everything else, but what a great guy, oh my gosh, what a great guy Adam is. And, whether he knows it or not, yeah, he's like my new best friend. Yeah, we're like best friends. Now we text each other all kinds of stuff. We like pinky swore on it, yep. But it was such a good conversation with Adam and what I want to encourage everybody to do we talked about his new album, rapture.
Speaker 1:It's on all the streaming services. It's an all instrumental Eight songs, or eight tunes, 25 minutes in out, but it is dynamite. It is so, so, so good. And I'm not I'm really not one for full instrumental albums, I'm just not but his. I have been listening to it. I was listening to it before the interview and I've been listening to it since.
Speaker 1:Okay, well, I have a question coming in through the text. It's a music trivia question, so I'm going to get back to Adam in just a second Next, and it's from let me see who played the guitar solo on Michael Jackson's Beat it. Okay, don't waste my time. Steve Lukather from Toto played the rest of the guitars and bass. Toto pretty much played on the entire Thriller album and Steve Piccaro, jeff's brother, wrote the song Human Nature. That's on Thriller. Okay, just a little stuff for you. Okay, just letting you know. So sorry, I'm not drinking Three shots down already. Wow, all right.
Speaker 1:Okay, so we were talking about Adam and we're talking about Voyage, the Journey tribute band that we went to go see, and I'm telling you they were so good, oh, absolutely dynamite. And if you haven't, if you haven't heard of Voyage. Look them up. They're all over YouTube. They have videos all over YouTube. The lead singer, hugo Valenti, who, let's bring it back to Adam Adam and Hugo were in a band in the 80s called Valentine. They were also in a band in the early 90s called Open Skies. They were also in a band in the early 90s called Open Skies. So that's where they start Now. Hugo is like a dead ringer for Steve Perry, not just vocally, but visually. When you see him come out on the stage, you just have to kind of's like. You kind of have to like rub your eyes. You know it's like am I seeing this right? But they were dynamite. They were so, so, so good and they played a great set.
Speaker 1:Now let me also say this that Voyage is, yes, they are a Journey tribute band and they're wonderful. They have also released original music too. They released I believe it was last year, late last year in 2023. They released an album. It's called Inception and it's really good and it sounds. If you love the Raised On Radio album from Journey, you'll like Inception. You'll like it because it's right in line with that, even leaning into maybe a little bit of Steve Perry's not the Street Talk solo album, but more For the Love of Strange Medicine solo album, kind of a cross between Raised on Radio and For the Love of Strange Medicine, just really, really good stuff.
Speaker 1:But getting back to Adam, while we're doing the show and I mentioned to him that I'm going, that Catherine and I are going to go to the show the following night right there he says, oh, okay, well, I know Robbie Hoffman, the lead guitarist in the band, and he sends him a text right during our conversation. He says I'm going to get you passes to go backstage. And I was just like, okay, appreciate that, that was you know okay. And sure enough, our passes were waiting for us at Will Call when we got there and we went backstage.
Speaker 1:After the show, met Hugo, met Robbie just very, very nice guys, very nice guys, and they were so busy because they had to pack up all their stuff and get out of there and catch a plane. And I think Robbie said they were going to Albuquerque. I believe so, yeah, but they still took a few minutes. And I think Robbie said they were going to Albuquerque, I believe so, yeah, but they still took a few minutes with Catherine and I and were real appreciative of the fact that we came out to see them. Great guys, great band. Check them out Voyage. And if you're going to search them on the streaming services, I believe you're going to have to look under Hugo's Voyage, because I think there's some other stuff, voyage, and it'll probably be too difficult to find. Something that's going to be cool. Maybe you can mix your like cheese tortellini and throw some blueberries in there, some strawberries yeah, I think that would be a cool pasta salad. Of course, chips and dip right, got to have chips and dip, chips and dip, chips and salsa, all that good stuff. Summertime favorite fruit Watermelon.

Speaker 1:So now I know there's some rock docs coming up or I shouldn't say coming up, but there's some rock docs out there and I like the rock docs. But doggone it, with my work schedule and then trying to prep for the show man, I just don't have a lot of time to watch them. I started one last night. It was the Nickelback documentary, I think it's called Love to Hate them or something like that and I got like I don't know, 10, 15 minutes into it. It's really good, it's really good and it's on Netflix. By the way, the Nickelback documentary, it's on Netflix, I think.
Speaker 1:Like I said, I think it's called Love to Hate them and I don't understand that there is in the last I don't know, maybe 10 years, 15 years years, maybe something like that. There's just been this like faction of people that want to hate on nickelback and I don't understand why. Um, you got it, deb. I don't know why they're such. First of all, they're such a band and maybe it's because they rose to popularity so fast, really fast. They've sold millions upon millions of records, millions. I'll tell you what. I'll tell you what.
Speaker 1:I kind of equate them to Creed. Yeah, I kind of equate them to Creed because Creed got really big right out of the gate. First two albums, boom. I think you may have to check my math on this one because I don't go deep into Creed, but I believe the first two Creed albums might be Diamond albums. So check my math on that one. All right, chad Kroger said that that Nickelback is like cilantro you either love them or you hate them, something like that. Yeah, so I can't wait to see the rest of the doc. I started watching it and it kind of got late. I had to go to bed. Everyone knows I get up early in the morning. I get up very, very early. I've been up since 1.30 this morning and I've got everyone out here. Whether it's I've been up since 1.30 this morning and I've got everyone out here whether it's in the whole Ben Maynard program world, I've got everyone out here trying to get me drunk tonight and, like I said, I have a show, I've got an interview tomorrow. I have to catch up on Music, documentaries, whatever my books, books I have a laundry list of books, of course, two of them that I've received in the last two weeks, books here on the shelf that I have to catch up on. It's absolutely bananas. I had an author, a woman, today, reach out to me. She says hey, I've been traveling last few months. Let's hook up, let's figure out our schedules and get on the show. If you still want me on the show. She's an author and a motivational speaker. So yeah, of course I want to have her on, I want her to tell her story. So there's another book. There's another one I have to read. I have the book already. She sent it to me, I don't know, probably three months ago, but I have to read it. She's like when do I have time to do this? It's like holy Toledo. So Beach Boys documentary on Disney Plus, and I love the Beach Boys, love the Beach Boys. So I'm looking forward to that.
Speaker 1:One Can't wait to see that one. There's a Brett okay, there's two documentaries Okay. There's a Brett Michaels documentary. It's on A&E I'm not sure what the title is. If you have cable, obviously you're going to have A&E. If you have streaming service or something along those lines, you'll probably have to check maybe Hulu or Philo or somebody like that to see if you've got A&E and check it out. But there's a Brett Michaels documentary. It's supposed to be really, really good and I love Brett. I love Brett Michaels. He's just. I'll tell you what.
Speaker 1:I'll share this with you really quick and I know we're running over time. First off, I had way too much show or way too much content for tonight, and then all you crazies out there getting me to drink and getting me sidetracked and all that kind of stuff taking up all my time here. So I met Brett Michaels back in like 2007. I'm on vacation in Cancun and this was during the time he was. He had that show on. I don't remember if it was VH1 or VH1 Classic, I think it was VH1. What was it? Rock of Love, where he was looking for love, and it was a dating show. Okay, well, they were actually filming the show. We were staying at the same hotel in Cancun and they were filming the show. I think it was the might've been the season finale or something along those lines. They, the crew, would set things up and then tape it off and rope it off whatever during the day, but they were filming this stuff at god-awful hours when, when most everybody is asleep. So it's bananas, bananas.
Speaker 1:But I met brett while I was there at the hotel. I ran into him at the at the gym. Uh, ran into him while he was going out to. He was uh, uh, got on a, uh, on a, a, uh, not a, not a jet ski, but like a sea dew, and uh was cruising around the, the near the beach there, ran into him. Then it was always always very talkative, always very personable. And then, uh, I remember it was I think it was my last day, I think checking out of the hotel and he was checking out also the crew, the crew for the for the show Rock of Love. They were checking out also, and, and so just talking to him in the lobby of the hotel, just hotel, just very, very nice guy, very nice guy. So yeah, yeah, I actually want to see this documentary. I think it does touch on that whole rock of love time in his life. So I look forward and then let me see right now. I think that's it for documentaries, but this is.

And you know the thing about Queen is, they're huge in America. Okay, they're big in America, let me, let me, let me take that back. They're big in America, let me take that back. They're big in America. They're enormous around the world, and I mean enormous, even to this day, being fronted by Adam Lambert. They're enormous. They play stadiums around the world, enormous. They play stadiums around the world, arenas here in America, stadiums around the world. They are bigger now in the last probably since the Bohemian Rhapsody movie. They're bigger now than they were back in the 80s Because in the 80s they took a downturn. You know, I mean after it probably started with the album the Game. Another One Bites the Dust, which was the big hit. Crazy Little Thing Called Love, which were both crazy big songs. Crazy Little Thing Called Love, which were both crazy big songs. Crazy Little Thing Called Love, let me get it straight, went number one but it drew in a different audience and so, like those diehard Queen fans were like, eh, you know, you guys have kind of gone a little disco here with Another One Bites the Dust and a little bit light with Crazy Little Thing Called Love. But those are just the hits off the album.

Uh, but still in america Queen took a downturn, but worldwide they're just absolutely enormous and of course, like I said, they still are. So to sell their entire catalog for $1.2 billion, are you kidding me? Oh my gosh. And John Deacon, who hasn't been in the band for probably 30 years I love it, never gave up his share of the band. Between Freddie Mercury's estate, brian May, roger Taylor and John Deacon what are these guys? Yeah, like $300 million each, $400 million each, are you kidding? I was just, oh my gosh. Bananas, absolutely bananas, but good for them. I mean, john Deacon wrote, like Queen's biggest hit, another One Bites the Dust. He wrote that and I think, I think and I don't know because I haven't looked it up and I don't own that particular album and haven't even gone deep enough into it but I think he might have written Under Pressure too, at least written the music or the baseline for it. But 1.2 billion, that's just insane.
Speaker 1:And here's the thing too they sold to Sony. And this is what's cool Is, yes, they sold the entire catalog, publishing likeness, all that stuff. Yes, they sold the entire catalog, publishing, likeness, all that stuff. However, they still keep all of their proceeds or their profit from touring. Sony gets none of that. They get none of the touring money. So that is something, man, I'll tell you and you know, excuse me, another Malort burp, who knows how much longer Queen is going to go on, but, my gosh, they still get to rake in all their money from touring and don't have to pay a dime to Sony on that. Absolutely bananas, insane. Good on Queen. Good on you guys from Queen. Good on Brian. Hey, I don't know who negotiated this deal, but whoever negotiated this deal, good on you. You guys did it right. You guys are bad ass. Yes, yes, you are. Okay.
