The Chiofta Podcast with Haji Mike - a podcast series about songs - Episode 38 - Stavroulla - the story of Stavroulla retraces the origins of one of Haji Mike's most famous songs back to 1992 in Haringey, where the musician was inspired by the song "Carolina" by an up-and-coming artist named Shaggy and the real-life story of a close friend's breakup. Initially the song was recorded on a twin tape deck as a rough idea and it was then produced in full by the great Sugar Hajishacalli. "Stavroulla" was a watershed moment in my artistic career. I visited Cyprus twelve times in 1993 for gigs because of it....
