Hello everyone, and welcome back to Words of Wellness. My name is Shelley and I will be your host, and I wanted to hop in today and just share a quick message that was on my mind.

Speaker 1:

I had the opportunity to attend an event on February 1st Growth Day LA that is put on by the incredible Brendan Burchard, and, for those of you who might not know who Brendan Burchard is, he is one of the top performance and mindset coaches in the world, and I started going to his events probably about four or five years ago now, and now that we are back into live events, I've started to attend a couple of his events in Los Angeles, and they are absolutely incredible. And I just wanted to share, because today I really was thinking a lot about it, as the day today didn't quite go as I had originally planned, and that happens right. Other schedules don't always go smoothly or as planned, and the topic that was covered at Growth Day LA recently was all around stress, managing stress and how do we deal with overwhelm, and so I just kind of wanted to highlight some of the points that were made. The speakers were absolutely phenomenal and you know, it really was just all centered around what are the best practices for stress and overwhelm and what are these high performance coaches doing for themselves and also coaching others to do, and that really was what the whole day was about.

Speaker 1:

And one thing I thought that was really fascinating is that Brendan was saying that our energy, and whatever kind of state we are with our energy, it is the result of what has happened the previous 72 hours. I found that really fascinating and I don't know that I have heard that before, but it really could have made sense. So, whatever experience you might have had two, three days ago, that energy can stay with you up to 72 hours. So Brendan really talked about the relationship between our gut and our brain and there's so much research out now that shows there's such a high relationship between our gut and our brain, and so he was saying that. You know he was making the point that when we worry and we are concerned and we are stressing about something, that then increases the cortisol levels in our body and I talked about this on a previous episode but that can then lead to stomach acid and then that can then lead to us being kind of sick to our stomach. So when we have those instances where stress gets the best of us right and we have an upset stomach, a lot of that is because of what this physiological response has happened within our bodies and it's created that. So he really talked a lot about the importance of setting boundaries, releasing energy and also recalibrating. So what can you do to recalibrate yourself and your body? And that was really really a good, important reminder for us all.

Speaker 1:

And then one of my other I shall say one of my favorite other coaches was present. One of the high performance and mindset coaches in the world again, probably at this moment in time, number one the great Ed Milet was present and he right away. One of the first things he said when he is dealing with stress is he deals with it through prayer. And I just was really touched by the fact that became a very big topic. He and Brendan talked about the importance of the power of prayer for all through all instances. But really a lot happening with prayer when we are under stress, how prayer can help us in stressful moments, and Ed was saying that you know it really helps you to put things into perspective. He says it opens up space for hope and it also helps ask for strength, helps us to bring that hope and strength into our lives. And it was really very inspirational what he had to say and you know he did talk about the fact that it helps us focus on what we can and we cannot control. And I have to say that is something that I think about on a daily basis. If there is something that is stressful or upsetting, I step back for a moment and I think, okay, is this something that I can control or is this something that is out of my control? And it really helps again, helps you to put things into perspective at that moment. Ed went on to talk about in stressful moments. He said you know, a lot of times I will just ask for grace and I will also then extend grace to others, so that just again takes a focus off of ourselves when we focus on others and it helps to reduce that stressful moment. So I thought that was a great reminder.

Speaker 1:

And then the amazing John Gordon spoke. He was incredible. He talked about feeding yourself with positivity and he really, he really focused more on having a strong belief in yourself and never giving up. And he also spoke about how prayer really connects us. It helps to clear our mind, and a great point that he made is that when we have a clear mind, then that raises. That raises our state of mind, that raises how we are feeling, and so that was really really important. Having that clear mind is critical, because if we have a cluttered mind, that lowers our state of mind, just like the level of frequency that we have when we have a clear mind. It helps to increase our frequency when we are dealing with stress and we have a cluttered mind, it reduces that frequency. That then impacts what we do in our day-to-day life. So I thought that was really really great.

Speaker 1:

He talked about the importance of truth. Truth is the highest frequency and what we tell ourselves really can feed into that right. So he was talking about the power of our thoughts and what we tell ourselves is so strong, and I share that a lot. When we talk about mindset and when I talk to my clients about mindset or students, what we tell ourselves is very, very powerful. And one of the last things I want to share about John Gordon is that he also talked about the importance of love, just that that's the highest power and that if we can focus on love and all of the things that we do, it really can impact us in so many ways, in such a positive way. And one thing that was mentioned is that we so often focus on what's urgent, what has to happen now, what is the highest urgent priority, rather than focusing on what is most important, what matters at this point in time, and I thought that was a really great point.

Speaker 1:

And then, to round out the day, the incredible Jamie Kern Lima spoke and she shared mostly about self-worth, and she has a new book that is going to be out soon and it's all about self-worth. So she spoke about self-confidence and self-worth a lot and just how the fact that our self-confidence can rise and fall depending on different experiences that we go through, but our self-worth is what is most internal. It comes from a very, very deep place inside of us. And she just emphasized the fact that we all grow and become the people that we're meant to be. You know, you and I, we are becoming the person that we were born to become, and she stressed the fact that it's so important to enjoy the journey, enjoy the growth journey and know that we are worthy, that we are all worthy just as we are. And she shared so much around the topic and I just again wanted to today just hop in and just give a brief overview of the phenomenal day, because it really was impactful, and I just wanted to highlight some of the main points that were shared.

Speaker 1:

And I just think it's so great to listen to these top coaches sharing their knowledge, sharing their wisdom and sharing what they have experienced. I mean, jamie has a whole lifetime of experiences that she briefly shared with us that have impacted her to be the person she is today and, quite frankly, that is how it is for each and every one of us, for each and every one of you. Everything that you have experienced up until this point in your life makes you who you are today and it can really be so impactful when we take the time to think about that and to give ourselves grace where we are at today and to give us grace if we maybe aren't exactly where we want to be, and then also give us credit if we are where we want to be and just really keeping all of that in mind when it comes to the place where we are in our lives and I just wanted to share, like I said just briefly, the experience from that day and the main points that were shared and, of course, giving every single person credit where credit is due. This is not me talking, but this is me sharing some highlights from that day in effort to pass that on to all of you. So I hope you find value in all of this and I hope you find some tips that help you next time you are in a stressful situation, and I will share that.

Speaker 1:

In January we had a flood in our home and the downstairs, part of the downstairs flooded, and so we have been on this journey of having part of our home kind of gutted. You know, the flooring taken out, part of the drywall, part of walls taken out, doors removed, furniture is out, a whole cleaning process had to take place and we still are in the midst of this journey and the next part of it is now to approach all the repair work that has to be done, and I'm sharing this with you all because it hasn't been easy and I'm grateful that I have tools to manage stress and I also, from the beginning, have focused on looking at the positive out of this, looking at the end result is going to be some new flooring, some new paint in our home, perhaps some new furniture, and I just keep trying to focus on the positive and how this is going to turn out in the end. And I would be lying if I said it's not irritating at times and not stressful at times, because everything is moved out of my office, everything is moved off another desk that we have and, yes, there is quite a lot of clutter in the living room, in the dining room area. But I am choosing to look at it in a positive way and I am choosing to do my best to deal with the stress and manage the stress in these different tools that I incorporate in my life and then also tools that I learned from this event on February 1st.

Speaker 1:

I wanted to just share this with you all in hopes that it's something that you can apply to your day to day lives and find value and find some ease when it comes to managing stressful moments. So that's just what I wanted to share with you all today. I hope you are doing well on this day and, given the fact that I am recording this on a Friday, I hope you all have a wonderful, wonderful weekend and, until next time, take some time for yourself, take some time for your own personal wellness and I will see you next episode. Take care, everyone, and until next time. I hope you all have a healthy, happy and blessed week. Bye.
