Lori Gouhin [00:00:00]:

Welcome to the artwork of you, the podcast where your life is the canvas and you are the masterpiece. I'm your host, Lori Gouhin, and together we'll explore creativity, self awareness, mindset, goal strategy, and the importance of accountability so that you can paint your life's portrait with confidence and ease. Remember, in the gallery of life, you're not just a spectator, you are the art. So let's grab our brushes and start creating the masterpiece that is you.

Lori Gouhin [00:00:30]:

Hello, my friends. I am so glad that you are.

Lori Gouhin [00:00:32]:

Here with me today, because today I.

Lori Gouhin [00:00:34]:

Want to talk about gaining clarity and living your life on purpose. And so, the idea for this episode came because I recently saw an online ad that was advertising for cheap flights to Europe, and it was an airline I had never heard of before called play airlines. And by the way, I think that's a great name. So, anyway, the ad reminded me that, once again, here I am, 58 years old, and I have never been to Europe. Never.

Lori Gouhin [00:01:03]:

And now, it's not the first time.

Lori Gouhin [00:01:04]:

I've been reminded of this or thought about this. In fact, my husband and I discuss it all the time. Yeah, it's on our list. Yeah, we want to go. And, yeah, we never move forward. We've had passports for I don't know how many years, and we have literally never used them. And we go on vacation. So it's not that travel isn't important to us.

Lori Gouhin [00:01:23]:

And I realize that traveling to Europe isn't necessarily as easy as traveling to a US destination, but honestly, how hard can it be? And I also know that it doesn't have to, as they say, break the bank. And let's be honest, traveling within our own country, the United States, can be very expensive. And so I made a decision that we're going to travel to Europe in 2024. I don't know for how long, and I'm not sure where, but my goal is to go, and it's been decided. And then that got me thinking about how so many people never even consider what it means to actually live on purpose. Sure, you may have a general plan or a general direction in life, but for the most part, life is happening to you and you are responding accordingly. And so, you know how I talk a lot about goals and how important I think that they are. But sometimes I think we can get so focused on the big goals that we have, like starting a business or making a big move or running a marathon, et cetera, that we lose sight of everyday experiences that can really add value to our lives.

Lori Gouhin [00:02:29]:

And both are so important. So think about your bucket list items. Or do you even have a bucket list? And if you don't, I would suggest that you write one. And I would suggest that what you put on the list are things that you would regret not doing or experiencing if your life were, God forbid, to end tomorrow. So these can be big things that take planning, time and money, like a trip to another country, or they can be anything in between. They can be a one time experience, or they can be experiences that you want to add more frequently into your life. And so I made a big list that I'll go through just to get you thinking about things that might interest you. Number one live in a state or a city that's not your hometown.

Lori Gouhin [00:03:15]:

Some people never leave their hometown. And if that's what they want, that's fine. But many people would like to move somewhere else. So living in a state or a city that's not your hometown. Number two go whale watching. Number three drive a race car. Number four grow a vegetable garden. Number five watch the sunset or the sunrise on the beach.

Lori Gouhin [00:03:36]:

Many people have never seen a sunrise or a sunset on the beach. Number six travel one weekend a month. Number seven spend the holidays at a fun destination. Number eight see a professional sporting event in person. Number nine see a championship sporting event in person. Number ten, own a classic car. Number eleven build a new home. Number twelve go on a date with your partner once a week.

Lori Gouhin [00:04:03]:

Number 13 start a creative new hobby. Number 14 go skydiving. Number 15 take flying lessons. Number 16 take sailing lessons. Number 17 go whitewater rafting. Number 18 buy a vacation home. Number 19 attend a retreat. Number 20 plan a retreat.

Lori Gouhin [00:04:24]:

Number 21 have dinner at the table with your family every night. Number 22 see the seven wonders of the world. Or just see one wonder of the world. Number 23 travel somewhere new at least once a year. And it doesn't have to be far. It could be just experiencing new towns within a driving distance from you. Number 24 have a yearly family reunion. Number 25 write a book.

Lori Gouhin [00:04:51]:

Number 26 learn a new language. Number 27 learn a musical instrument. Number 28 live off grid for a period of time. Number 29 swim in every ocean. I think that one sounds like a fun goal. Number 30 volunteer in another country. And so again, they were just random ideas that came to me. Your journey and your desires will be different, but I just thought maybe that would be a good way to get your ideas flowing.

Lori Gouhin [00:05:20]:

Because living a life on purpose is about making conscious choices. To lead a life that's filled with intention and meaning and joy. It's the difference between being what I would say is a passive passenger in your life or an active driver in your life. Setting both big goals and embracing daily goals can really transform the way that you live. Big goals are the dreams that light you up. They light up your eyes when you talk about them, something maybe like climbing Mount Everest, or starting your own business, or maybe writing a novel. They give you direction and they motivate you to push beyond your limits and inspire you to grow. But more than that, they remind you of your potential to achieve extraordinary things.

Lori Gouhin [00:06:06]:

And while those big goals are crucial, in my opinion, I don't want you to overlook the beauty of daily living goals. And those are the small, intentional actions that you take every day or every week that add up to a fulfilling life. It could be as simple as reading a book for 20 minutes daily, or going on weekly date nights, or spending quality time having dinner at the table more often. Because these daily goals help us live a meaningful and joyful life by keeping us grounded and focused and connected to the present moment. And they're essential for a life that's lived on purpose. The real magic happens when we combine the big goals and our daily goals. So how can we do that? It starts with clarity, knowing what you want to achieve and why. And then it's about breaking down those big goals into actionable steps and weaving them into your daily routine.

Lori Gouhin [00:07:00]:

And embrace the beauty of everyday moments as well. And take intentional steps towards a life that resonates with your deepest desires. Remember, you have the power to design a life that's meaningful to you, one purposeful step at a time.

Lori Gouhin [00:07:17]:

That's a wrap for today. My friends, thank you for sharing your time with me. And remember to show up in your life like the masterpiece you are because you are the artwork. Please subscribe and leave a five star review. Have a fabulous day.
