Wireless GO II RX & james's iPhone (4) Camera-1:

The technology's working first time. Right now. Yeah. Yes. Hello. We're expecting three together today. Can we help? Out of tune, he gets. I'm very well, I'll start it off. I want to join. Yeah. Ah, The popcorn. How come pundits, that was cost. So many special T. sorry. I've got it wrong. We're doing an Oscar special. It's an Oscar special, especially for you people to have bad. And for those of you viewing on YouTube. Slightly different. And what have we sound different to our listeners as well? That'd be quite interesting to find out. Just probably do this. The mics are placed. Strategically. This is your post. This is week 20. Traditionally, we'd usually review one film and then we'd go on to homework. And we'd also talk about the top 10, but this weekend, a special week this week, we are celebrating the Oscars. Good old Oscar. Uh, and then we'll get to talk about Peter's homework. And then we're going to talk about homework for next week. Okay, Nikki, you're in charge this week. Do you watch the Oscars? I did. Yes. Yes. Tell us what time you started out? Tell us what time we finished. She started about 10 half, 10 UK time. Yes. So I put it on Marlowe's. Puts in about getting ready for bed? Yes, I do. Potter. Yes. And not the hairy. And, um, I thought I'll go to bed after the next award. And then the in memory thing came on and I thought. And then I thought, oh, gates. And then they I'm just can. Yeah. It happens. And I'll go to bed after that. Right. Next thing. I noticed the last award and it was half, two in the morning. Wow. Did anyone good diet then? Did they do a good die. Was it good. I was one of those. I'd forgotten that person that died this year. Um, cause Michael Gambon died. Yeah, 2023. Did. And I completely forgotten. Yeah. So, yeah. And it'll be C. Matthew Perry and stuff. It was interesting. Cause I was watching the ITV program. And they were saying. It's interesting that they'd put him in because he's not widely recognized for his films. He didn't see. Why do you recognize culturally? Yes. Friends. Exactly. Mostly he did 17 again, and the one with Bruce Willis, nine yards, whole nine. And other things, which was quite frankly a terrible. Now it's probably not enough. After his death, you could make an inappropriate joke about it. Isn't it. No, we'll do that next time. It's a low board ceremony. It always is though, but I've heard that I haven't seen any awards ever. And he thought were guided by you this week. But I have heard several different things. I've heard that it wasn't as awkward as I bought. So. And he's been in the past, it was still awkward bit. But it wasn't as awkward. There was no one got punched. Okay. Uh, Jimmy, whichever one it is felon or chemo, chemo. I think it was. Uh, he actually did. Okay. Yeah. Very funny. He had a weird. Assistant man with him who. Who gave all the audience tequila and they all drank tequila together, but he was a bit weird. Yeah. Massive bow tie on diddly. I think so. Gigantic. And he was, I don't know if he was pretending to be, if you actually was like Spanish or Mexican or Uruguayan. Oh, snow. Yeah. That wasn't a board. Isn't it. Nikki is going to give us the, um, the full synopsis of each one of the films that each category of, of that. As one. Yeah. And then Peter and I are going to scoff laugh or. Get it out. Views on it. Really loudly. now my favorite thing about the Oscars. It was what they did with things like actors and actresses in leading roles and supporting roles as they bought out previous winners. And then each one had a nominee to talk about. Yeah. So they pull out like Brendan Fraser, Nicholas cage, right? And they eat. This case came out Nicholas cage case. We do a high kick. He didn't tell me, but he made a joke about a bad film. I think he was speaking to Paul Giamatti. Yes. And he made a joke about Banfield and said, I would have done it or something because he'd said how bad it was or there was something, it was really funny. We lived next to the Cape and he goes, Hey, if you're ever free. You're always, there's always a spacing. I'll say the for you. Okay. My main, favorite thing as well about the Oscars. Was a lot of the presenters were American. And a lot of the winners were British and Irish. So now. I've been. Told by something in the media that. I was, are you going to tell us who when the off the. Would you like to just give us the who wouldn't Mount Oscar. So the actor in a leading role was silly. A Murphy for Oppenheimer. Yes. Now I can tell he's the first Irish born actor to win an Oscar. I believe so. And he did dedicate it to Ireland. So, yeah, he didn't tell you this. This is kind of like the worst kept secret of the year. Wasn't it? Yeah, he's going to win this. Did anyone else have a chance of winning it? Okay. Another question. Which of the others? Nominees do you think thought they were going to win it? Do you know what I think a lot of. Actually thought that Jeremy write for American fiction was second.'cause a lot of people would discuss in American fiction and they talked about it a lot. Y it would have been a deserving winner. I think it would have been. I think Bradley Cooper thought he was going to win and also. Sky trailers for Maestro are. A family man. At the top fuel consideration. Yes. I mean, I personally, I list Kelly Murphy and I live. But I personally feel that Jeffrey Wright or Paul Paul Giamatti should have one. I don't think Paul Giamatti for the holders. I didn't think it was an Oscar worthy performance. We've gone through the categories. I've got very interested in theory in the. On boards up in the, um, The categories. Okay. Um, to do with Paul Giamatti, right? Okay. Uh, saving it for the endo. Yeah, that's what I said when we've gone through the categories. I'm just like, uh, do the things right now. Tell me now. Keep them hanging on. Yeah, exactly. That's what we do. Broadcasting. Coming up for later on in the podcast. yes. And was one bite. Robert Downey Jr. For often, either. Yeah. I reflect should. As far as I was concerned. And I think a lot of people thought he was gonna win. Junior loved them to vet. But I don't actually. Remember. That much of him in open over. I actually also think Ken should have won it. No. Do you know, I disagree completely now. I think Barbara slow. Yeah, I think, I think my money would have been a month roughly. I mean, he was, he was without doubt the most. Unusual character that seemed to act to play. Yes. And he, he really invested into it as well. And. This felt to me like this was the only chance they ever had to give. I think they can't make an, a Drake about that. Even Oscar for. Uh, uh, Chopping wood. You really deserve to amazing. Okay. Next actress in a leading role was, um, one that we've actually reviewed. And when it was Emma Stone for poor things. I am so happy. I know you're not, I am. No, you're not. Why is he not. You want it to be living Gladstone? You said that when. Moon came out. And he said, if she doesn't win an Oscar for this, then there's something wrong in the world. And then, and then pork's things. In hindsight. I think he was wrong was poor things. Hadn't come out. There's time. That's what happens is time is a, is a, is an evil. Um, creature. My favorite thing about Emma Stone as well was the fact that her dress broke. Yes. Halfway. So I think she was walking up the stairs and then she got, went to everyone. Don't look at my dress, it's broken, then turned around and went, look, my dress broke. But she said to spend it. She seemed to spend the whole night, like lucky little five-year-old. Our own birthday parties. Yeah. Running around. That's it. She actually. Ryan goes, this is Goslin's performance. Yes. I'm Ken. On them. we love ever. And. And she's in a supporting bow was divine joy Rondo from the whole day. off. No, I did that. But at 18, I said, Rudolph. Absolutely totally deserved. I think she was actually quite shocked as well, that she'd want it. Um, her speech was lovely. My money was either on, um, Uh, divine or Jodie foster. Foster. Yeah. I thought Jodie foster was, was. In the idea that was fantastic. Um, see I'm an America Ferrera. Go. He looked absolutely. In the Sage, you further. What she brought to Barbie. I was what she brings to everything. And. She's amazing. But it was nothing different to what you would usually do. And quite frankly, Um, Yeah, I think it was a buy decision. app. I'm ignoring him. And interrupted. Exactly. Feature film. Uh, the winner was the boy and the Heron. Tell me about an absolute fucking travesty. Yeah. Both teams to it. I think I said. Travis. They should have inspired man. It's like one of the best. And the best animated movie ever made. I have to agree with Paige on this. Have you not seen it? I've seen the Tigger movie. I don't know what happened. I have to be paid to. I really, really enjoyed despite, but across the spite of us. Uh, and I thought, boy, Harold was a disappointment. Yeah, absolutely. You're a real Miyazaki fat. When you came out going absolute shambles. Absolutely. I'm not kidding. Academy. Got it wrong. I'm not as familiar with the other one. So yeah. Spiderman of course. Yep. So I'll send an email and I'll get him, get him to change that. That's all right. Yeah. Just post the obstacle to the right people. Yep. Perfect. Cinematography was Oppenheimer. Uh, again, I wasn't hugely. I don't agree with that. A hundred percent. I think killers of the flower moon Simmons cinematography was better. Am. I also think poor thing cinematography was better. Then Oppenheimer. I thought, I thought it was actually what I think it was their, their weakest when oftentimes. In June to shit. During the second. The next year. Yet again. I agree with Peter. I think pausing should have one, not too sure. My kid has found nude in reference to cinematography. Because. I think they were just using what they had to flip through. If that makes any sense. Yeah. Whereas. Core themes. They. complete different world for you and your spray, steam, punky, but also beautifully weird and drew you in. And it seemed to go on forever and ever never, and yeah, but also break place at the same time. Very, very nice. Yes. Costume design. It was one bipolar things. Well, I agree. It could've been any of them. Chief deponent could have been. Yeah. To be fair. So it was poor things. I know we're not doing this for them, but poor things, Barbie. Because of the family, Napoleon and the Oppenheimer. So I do think it was a really good Canterbury. I. I think I was probably one of the closest decisions that. Oh, absolutely epic. Fantastic city supporting. James. We've got the fabric books. Direct 10. Was Mr. Nolan, Chris. I'm just saying something for Oppenheimer. If you look at those list of directors, Meeting. Yeah. Dennis scenario as well. Um, and that's it. You've got, they've got the full plan. Haven't. Rarely it's just absolutely. What party that would be. It's so funny because all of them coming up to Claire, there was, they kept wishing their moms happy mother's day. I know the Americans are like, who is going, talking about where they're talking about. But you want me to Christopher? You want Christopher noted to indeed. With everything. I think a lot of people, that one, I don't think was a surprise to anyone. I think people knew that that world was in that as films go. I feel as a, as a, as a whole film. I feel that it's just really deserved as, as a film. Uh, whereas individual formatives. Or they think you did. Dessert. The only kind of caveat I put on that is, cause I know you haven't seen anatomy of a full year. As a, as a film of, with a totally different construct. Yes. And that to me of a full, I think would, would run a very, very close. Second is a very, very different format. Than anything I've ever seen before. And I do think that's a really important part of direction. Nice. Again, it is a very good category though. Yeah, absolutely. Yeah. Uh, so the next one was documentary feature film. Yes. Now, this one's really interesting. And the winner was 20 days in Marissa pool. And it was all about the Ukraine situation. Um, and that. The director who won it, he Elsie was like, this is going to be the weirdest. Thank you. The us is, cause he was like, in a way, I wish I hadn't won this because I shouldn't have to make the feelings. Yeah. So he's like, I kind of want it and don't want it. And it was such a lovely speech that he did, like obviously honoring Ukraine. And it was, you know, made you think of it, that he was like, I shouldn't be here winning this because this should never have happened. There's always going to be a bittersweet moment when you are documenting something that is hurting, does this mean. There shouldn't be going on to highlight it for the rest of the world. And if it wins, it gets the accolade, but you're. What you want, because you want a bit to spread the word because he's white. He created a piece of art in the first place. But he's a hundred percent bites. If it wasn't there, he wouldn't have had to make it. Yeah, I totally agree with that. He was the first claim. I believe he's the first, that's the first Ukrainian Oscar. There's Irish and fishy cranium. Apparently. I'm not familiar. I looked familiar with the rest of the, um, the nominees. I can't really comment. But they did show, they always show like little previous before. You know, and then as the knees and they actually all looked really interesting. So. So I might go and have a look at those and see if there's anything good. And the same with the next one documentary short field. It was one that was called the last repair shop. That one. And I believe it was about people donating, please. Correct me if I'm wrong. People comment. Um, Uh, people were donating oatmeal instruments and they repairing them and give them to schools in America. Because of budgets and. It's uncertain, but certain news in America. We're saying you can't make me. Guns or anything? I said it's in schools in America, I think is saying like we're banning music lessons and we're black Bannon, and this was all about, and they bought the cutest little 12 year old girl up on stage. Uh, the next one is fulfilled. Meditate. Yes. Again, an amazing category. Um, and the winner was Oppenheimer. Yeah. Yeah, you can't argue that. No to. Be fair. I mean, if it's close to known as behind the camera. And he's in charge. You gotta make sure it's good. Yeah. Jennifer, obviously. Uh, working hard for, yeah. Uh, international feature film. Um, which was actually won by good old United Kingdom. Zone of interest. Which I have not seen yet. And I really want to say, I believe you're halfway through. Halfway through. Yeah. What's your thoughts so far? It's a, it's a really. Uncomfortable watching. Yeah, absolutely. I mean, what you're watching is, uh, is you're watching a feature film, which has got this underlying soundtrack behind it, which obviously we know the concept of the film. It's the house on the. On the gates. Um, Auschwitz and, um, and it's the, it's the juxtaposition between everyday normal family life and the atrocities which were happening with. And, um, it's difficult to watch because it's, it's, it's filmed just with natural lighting and the, and then when they're in the house, they only use like that the house is lights wrong and actually. Any kind of systematic lights or anything. So. It's quite a grainy difficult. Watch in terms of that way. Then you've got the soundtrack as well. And then you've got the actual subject matter. So it is. Can't wait. Yeah. There's a heavy watch. Yeah. Even though it was won by the UK, the guy is obviously a descendant of. Yes. Um, question, would you watch it the same day as what you one life. Oh, Question. Um, I, uh, If I, if I had to order. Yeah, there's a, there's a definite order. You have one life afterwards just to come to recover. Oh, yeah. Uh, humanity. But would you do that though? No, I don't think so. I think it's two very, very different takes on different parts of this. Of the same story. Yeah. I see, we can try it. If you made the effort to do that. Yeah. You have to ask yourself, what were you, did you do that? However society, the snow. Isn't that less. Yeah, definitely had some sort of accolade for something, whether it be. Does share sort of. And Oscar nomination, not accolade enough for me. Okay. My Spanish. We'll give it a change to reward. Oh, wonderful. I wonder if a live one. I can't remember. Uh, it's makeup and hair styling was a poor things. A hundred percent. I'm all over that. Um, apart from apart. I spoke with my stroke. Kind of want that. Yeah, a hundred percent. I mean, I'm not being funny, but I. I mean, you wouldn't do it different. You would not know. Unless you could pay pictures. Yeah. Everybody has been digging on the internet. Writes music. Original school was Oppenheimer. Yeah. The music was epic and. It was just like, just powered you through the pill, man. Um, the quiet was the right quietness. The loud was the right loudness. Yeah. Again, I think Paul sings with it with its. Quirky violins and it's. Well, it wasn't really a soundtrack. Was it? Never downloaded the soundtrack and listened to it on a drive. Would you? Cause most of it was just like violin school kids. But yeah, you would. You've been doing this for 20 weeks pizza. Covad. But, um, there was also a lot of talk about an American fiction, willingness category as well. Because it was an amazing score that was written for that. Yeah, I did have very strong views about that. The music in American fiction. Do you recall? And if you listen to our past podcasts, Very conviction. Oh, would it, my thoughts for the music in merch feature? Was it, some of it was a bit forced. A little bit less music. For my jazz. The thing is. Okay. Okay. Perfect. Let's talk some squawky, violin, and stairs. Music was won by a, it was what was I made for? And it was by Billie Eilish and Phineas. O'Connell. This is her second Oscar. And she's 22. Yeah, I think she won her first one to 18. Wasn't it for James Bond. Yeah. Which peaked really early. And then they didn't release a movie. Yeah. Yeah. But do you know, feel like this feels like a bit of a Barbie needed to win an Oscar? No. I really like Billie Eilish and I think. I might do too, but I just wish they won a couple of stronger categories than this. Um, interested. Best picture. Yeah. again. So we could, we could kind of discuss the fact that, um, we started that podcast a few weeks, too late. I mean, that is a. That is a. parcelized, which is incredible. It's been mentioned yet. And that should be mentioned in the foreign language category as. Well, let's talk a little concern Maestro. We haven't seen. Kiddos at a flat on Bain, which was epic. My story is actually brilliant. Yeah. As a film is, is fantastic. And Bobby for itself for what? It was, it was absolutely brilliant for what it was not as good as Mingo. But that's another. It's not completely and asked me before having CBR, but I, I just cannot wait to see it. And obviously American fiction. You see American fiction, it's just. It's nominated, which is fantastic. I think it's just more this year is having a lot of nominations this year. And production design again was poor things. Um, Sound. Yes sound. You don't change your pages was the zone of interest. So that was his second Oscar. So, yeah, and they, they, uh, this kind of had to win it to be honest too, because, because of the, because of the sound concept that they came up with. It was instead of Maestro. Yeah. I mean, I mean, yes. I mean, I think it won it because it was a unique. Um, It was a unique way of using sound in a film that I've never, never seen it in any way, shape or form like that before. Yeah. Just deservedly and the mission impossible was also one of the nominees. Good. Old Tommy got went in there. Didn't lead. It's very rarely gets. It gets even a sniff nowadays. I'm just saving this cinema when you brought a town. Marvel. Maverick. When you need it. Exactly. So writing. And this Gatsby. He was adapted. Screenplay was the one that you saw as screen unseen episode 13 American fiction. And rightly so deserved. It was a brilliant, brilliant film. This is the perfect Oscar for that film, I think. Yeah. Absolutely. Yeah. I mean, it's, secondly, I would have put poor things. Um, obviously. It was only interested, obviously. On that list about, even without me saying it. Again, they've had quite a few nominations in this year's Oscars, which I think in itself is yeah. You know, Great. Absolutely. Uh, visual effects was Godzilla minus one. Yes. I do love this. Oh, cool. I just come on. I still find the, the, the visual effects in that film. Bizarre because it does feel like you're watching a film from the 1970s. Um, but that to win the visual effects. Yeah, it's actually quite a thing. Isn't it? And we are unfortunately going to have to watch the new, um, Did you consider meeting? Which is. And yeah, in a few weeks time, and it's just so. Bizarre how different the Japanese filmmakers and the U S filmmakers, it brought it back. They both, they made a rail against. Absolutely. Absolutely. So I'm thrilled. And award really enjoyed their speech as well. I think Napoleon. Could've got it. Do you. You know, I've seen a lot of harrowing stuff. I mean, again, mission and puss was in the garage. The galaxies are always good, visually as well. And the creator. Yeah. It really was beautiful, but it was just the pace of it just wasn't. The fully, I guess, with. Um, guardians and mission impossible. We've kind of been there, seen it, done that before. Yes, that's a dirty and that is take isn't it for them. So they've been handed. this guy's really. Um, and then writing original screenplay, the winner was anatomy of a fool. Would you have seen? I have seen. And do you agree with that? A friend of mine, he got his, it gets hold over his Maestro. Uh, I haven't been made. I wanted to see what that was about actually, and past lives. Beautiful. But it's. It's the point. I mean, I I'm quite happy with anatomy of a foreman. I mean, the holdovers, I think deserved another Oscar or two. Honest with you. I think it was. It's a, it's a future classic, absolutely. 100%. Now on that. The whole day was. Deserving and Oscar, they were talking about this on the program. I was watching until two 30 in the morning and they said, They didn't think it was very fair for the holdovers because a lot of these films are very serious and very, and there's not really like a best comedy category. So should there be a best comedy cat squeegee? You think. No. Cause if you did this comedy catchy, I need to go and do best threat academy. You're going to do best of cipher. Various films of one like Oppenheimer and poor things. So how does a comedy when postings was funny? I mean, it was very, very funny and fight. Um, Open on the, not so much, but. Not for now for that last. I think it just. It just has to be. A comedy of epic stature. Doesn't it to be totally honest with you. I think. We're in quite a high accolade. The Oscars. In the past or if not, it just needs to change. Doesn't it say it. Um, I think you need that level. I think. I've got very conflicting. With your views about the Oscars generally, because. Looking at. Looking at pieces of artwork on the screen. For somebody else to subject it. Um, pretty much what we do on a weekly basis. And review it and give it a score out of 10, which kind of goes through. Completely against my philosophy about art, but it needs to go out there and meet. I think you need to know about it. So then he can, then it can. It opens up a conversation so they can have that conversation. So if the Oscars. Only the water and leaves do missing hours, but highlight certain movies that people would not see before. I'm really, really pleased with it. That's why I said about the Oscars and I guess with the Oscars as well, it's all people know who nominated. The people who are judging. Yeah. Part of the academy. Whereas things like the BAFTAs. Critic's choice if they still do that. But you know, things like that, that is some of the categories are public dominated. So it is interesting, the different opinions between public and academy. Yeah, I agree. And all, I mean, I can't believe the amount of people that I speak to when I, um, you're talking about Publico pundants it's about films. I'm going to say forth. And I said, well, have you heard about poor things for instance, and even wait. You know, obviously two weeks ago, nobody, no matter how many times we got excited about. Things meet, explain these people, right. It's amazingly fair, but they're looking at, I've never heard of it. Yeah. So I'd like to get the Oscars. We'll be, we'll be bringing those slightly more quirky films that aren't the norm. I agree. Because even those short films that I mentioned, you know, the Marriott pool one. At one, some of those, I actually think I wanted to watch because they showed the small clip and I thought, oh, actually, that doesn't really trust him. I want to know. Over the last 20 weeks. From a starting after Oppenheimer. I mean, we've, we've seen the majority of the films which have been nominated through the Oscar. I think we're pretty much agreed. Yeah. With. Yeah, we've picked the right ones. I think. So there is one more that isn't actually on this, this, which I'd be interested in to get James his opinion on. Um, it is best animated short, and it was called. War is over and it's inspired by the music of John and Yoko. He said, do you think you would watch that. I don't know what it was about. Well, it all depends. I would know instantly by the first few frames. I'm going to enjoy it now. Mainly because it able to pay himself how it's being produced. So is it possible being. Did it sound limited as well? I don't mind. Yeah. And look at, look at myself. Oh, Thanks. You too. And there was obviously throughout the. So at the show. Okay. Uh, there was lots of different performances. Billie Eilish did her. Some that she won the Oscar for. Yep. And, um, Ryan Gosling. He did kind, Jess can. Are you a fan of Ryan Gosling? Back who in the background. Um, and obviously Mark Watson was there cause he helped write in produce it. And then suddenly there's a guitar solo going on. Slash wasn't there. Slash wow. How cool. Like imagine being that. Slash just comes out of nowhere. Yeah. What a slushie. With his hat and his guitar. And he's currently has. Oh, his hairdresser. He's gotta be like seven. Yeah, but it's probably died. Yeah. That has probably face. That was it. He has, is probably worth millions. He's not going to change it. It's probably got the best hairstylist out there. Section of weeks. Oh, extensions. It's hard to get curly hair extensions. Well, I think we think this was a pretty decent Oscars. I think you're right. Yeah. I think. All the winners were deserving. Winners. Good boy. She isn't. Yeah. Now, if you've got an opinion about the Oscars, if you think somebody should have warned, somebody shouldn't have wonder if you don't, if you don't agree with our point of view. Oscars, please let us know. How would people let us know Nikki and Peter? You go for at this time pizza or you can, uh, you can. A little message or comment underneath our YouTube videos, or you can, uh, DMS on Instagram. Or if you notice, if you asked me to do something. Don't interrupt James. My mother will have a go at you. Sorry. Well, if he knows personally, then you can just WhatsApp as person anymore. Um, we'll just transfer it over to a quick chat. Very chilled out right now. I'm really happy. About to do a big speech. I'm about to talk about. But she isn't going to win any awards just quickly before we go into that. What is the cutoff? Do we know for the Oscars? Because I'm actually quite surprised that one life was not nominated. And poor things was, and that came out later. Yeah. I think you're right. As I was nominated. But that's, again, it's all down to, uh, budgets because they have to spend it. At ton load of money to be nominated. You have to pay to be nominated. It to pay, uh, you. You basically have to advertise. Who you're nominating. And I presume that Andrew producers have to BRAF to. You know, 4k. Money for that. But maybe they just have to do that. If they will be normal. Exactly. We'll find out. But I know cost would be the production companies. I mean the amount of films. Four. We've seen a lot of films by the same production. Yes. And, um, yeah. I don't know. No, no. Interesting. I think it is purely down to finances. A lot of the time. Because the tickets as well for the vanity fair show afterwards, aren't they. We all like 10 grand each. No, that's all. But don't forget every single actor. And I've seen the person sitting in that chair get a humongous goodie bag to take away with them. getting the free. Yes. To the vanity fair. So it's the Joe blogs that have painted. The multi-millionaires turning up to that policy. Don't have to pay a fee. And anybody's shoulders with the. 10 grand and change. Maybe on Saturday night. And do you know how long it takes them to put the, um, red carpet down? On the floor. I know. I know, I know how long they take. Loads of people about three days. Yeah, well, that's. Red carpet. It was a very long. This is all the fluff before. Between the years, 2024 Oscars. With all of the winners and losers and in between us. Yeah. No, that film came out years. No. So that is our Oscar special. Let's get back to somebody that's fairly normal. Let's go back to Peter's homework. I gave you under the skip. You did, which is a normal. It's not normal at all. Great book. Good. Excellent. Peter would you like to do this now? All about it and what you felt about it. Yeah. So I'll say we've got to do this as a discussion like we did last week. I'm going to tell you what the film. Appears to be about. And then I'm sure you're going to tell, I mean, when you told me last week that. But that was about. What it's about. Sort of thing. Exactly. Blew my mind again anyway. I love when you got back to me anyway. What I said, the crystal is listed. I would just like. Jesus Christ. These things that just pop into mother earth. The nature. Anyway. So under the skin, yes. It's a pay for film on prime. Um, and it's directed by Jonathan Glazer. Yes. And it basically just star Scarlett Johansson. And some other people. So they're kind of in the background. Yeah, absolutely. Yes. Anyway. So we're introduced to Scott at your hands. Yeah, in a weird white and black world. With a shiny black squeaky floor. Where she is. Undressing another lady who appears to be dead. Uh, taking her clothes. It's disappearing out of the white and black room. That's right. Um, scholar, your Hansen is what is depicted. As an alien who drives around the Highlands of Scotland. And Glasgow. Trying to find men. Yes. Um, and it looks. You're trying to solicit them. Yes. And then when she finds men understand. Pretty much. It's my life story. Um, she takes them back to the white and black room where, um, you think there's going to be some naughty. But, uh, she does not take you bank with them. She. Basically just. Puts them into another dimension and eats their souls. Yes. Yep. Yes. It's my life story pretty. The nice cup of tea. This happens on a reoccurring basis. She finds either another man. And then there's another character in this. Who's a man on a motorcycle. That's right. Who basically. Sweeps up and cleans up when scholarly Hansel does it wrong. Yes. And, um, I don't really know who he is. He's her friend. in the book. Yeah. In the book that in the book, there's a lot more layers to that in the book. It's actually formulated as a middle group. Army S group to have landed onto planet earth. And they've all been. The jobs themselves. Yeah. He's not, he's not really explained. I love about it though. Do. I just thought it really weird. Cause it's just got like. We do exactly. He's got it back again. Quite mean. But then that, that meanness isn't really kind of developed. because what will you find is that. There's certain characters that have been on the planet in. It'd been as long ago. They're giving more information. And so they know how to act as a human right. His job is. The scholar, your Hanson is emotionless. Um, pretty much wordless. Barely speaks. She barely interacts with the men that she kind of takes back to the black and white. I mean, if you're in the pub, She plays a proper siding. Absolutely. And she pays you really, really well. Actually I want to say she's really, really good at him. You can get back to the room again. A hundred percent. And then she comes across. Um, a deformed man, as he's described in the. In the credits. And, um, and she seems to develop. A degree of emotion because she doesn't put him into the alternate universe and suck his soul dry. No, she lets him go. Hmm. And I'm not going to say what happens after that, about that. Um, And then she kind of. Changes a little bit. And then she meets a really nice man. And again, I think she kind of develops from being this soulless emotionless alien to thinking actually, maybe these human bins aren't so bad. And, um, and then she finds out that they are. Yeah. Cause you sucked. What'd she thought to do. She sucked too. Empathize. Yeah. But also she's. 3g learn more. Initially, she just said 2, 2, 2, 2. It's just, it's just a bit. Yeah, it's an energy driven. Process. And her learning about humans. Yeah. There's an empathy going on there and that's where that connection starts to come. Now in the book. Their transformation at physical transformation is completely different. And the book they kind of turned into. They, they, they, they unfold their skin. And they kind of turn into a cross between a gigantic. Cow and both at the same time, but completely black. Right. Okay. But not in the film. Um, but there, there is a black alien. That is. Um, unfolded, unfolding. But weirdly still looks like Scarlet. Yeah. Yes. Um, and then scholar, your Hanson's out of skin. Then looks up at the end, the black scholar you're handsome, which is like one of the coolest moments in the. Yeah. And you can see how they've done this. Very clever. Yeah. But anyway, so that happened. And, um, and then the film ends. And then I sat there, scratching my head for a while, thinking. Well, there we go. A typical James film. So did you read the book before the film? Yes. I read the book and then I sort of fell twice. Okay. So I think this is a book rather than a film. I know you mean, I do know what you mean. But I did enjoy the film. That's how I watched it twice. Okay. Um, I might give the book ago because I didn't enjoy. Um, I, I. I get why you like it. I liked the fact that you're in. In a quite energy list. Repetitive, um, silicone venting and the toilet last week. Yes. Yeah. But you do like this and it's basically it's you being in a, in a place of. Um, meditative repetition of the same kind of story going along with. Fucking bat shit, bonkers crescendo. The end, which is like, and I must admit I was halfway through this and I take. I can send some men moments. And behold there is. There was an epic. Yeah, absolutely. I mean, what I love about it is that. That you know, it is, it just feel homegrown. It does feel British or Scottish made. It has, and it does feel, and it just feel what. You know, it's under the radar. It's not very many people know about this film and it has a nice little hidden gem. I think. Yeah, good. If you've liked James's other films, you will probably like this for me. It's a 6.2. Looking forward. It's 6.3 and I am DB. Oh, is it okay? And it was actually had, it actually had 111 nominations. 23 wins. One of which was a chain. So reward. Yes score. To change. So nominations is about two other nominations. Uh, best limited release director video. Film. And best actress for Scarlett Johannson. I see. We. We should make an effort next year to go to chainsaw. As well. And, um, America. Okay, let's do that then. Let's do that. Um, yeah, it was, it was fun. Thank you very much. Have you got any other home? But for you for this week, I do strangely enough. Oh, brilliant. Yes. Now, this one is continued with the seamless skin. Okay. But also continue with the theme of a commercial actor. Doing a, uh, no commercial film. I love it when they do these, all these low Vader movies that people go. You put. You're such a big actor. Why are you doing this for. And what we live by that is it's obviously a, a. A little bit of love on their behalf. It's a case of putting aside the Hollywood dream, putting aside the large budgets, putting aside all the special effects. And sort of so forth, I will do something. You're uniquely beautiful and artistic. Okay. Okay. So this is a, it's a Spanish leading. Subtitles you better use. You knew of him. Are we talking, pretend Penelope Cruz. Wow. No. We're talking Tonya badass. Can you say property? And the cat. Uh, but he's not painful to boots. I don't watch it. I'm telling you about DAS. Okay. Why would you take it that far? But I think why she's going to kill me. Probably do a Spanish accent. If you're talking about a Spanish actor. Not my Scottish. It's a psychological thriller. It is doing your buddy. It is a 2011 film. It is a, it's a slow burn is begin with. Okay. Okay, I'm just warning you now. But as the film develops. It's apparently obvious that it's going to be. I James movie. Uh, it's called the, the skin I live in. Uh, did not just see scholar you're Hansen in this? Nope, that was under this Kim. Sorry. The skin I live in psychological Spanish. Fred out with Antonio Banderas. If you seen the movie, let us know what you think. If you haven't seen the movie. Download it and watch it this week and compare Peters with you. Yeah, big squeak. Awesome. And if you've got any comments about the Oscar winners or nominations, And you have messaged us about those as well. That'd be fantastic. Yes. Is that it. What films you can have next week. I'd like to go and see imaginary, which is. Um, Ryan minerals. New movie. Um, what else you. He was coming out. I think there's horribly becoming a Fetty suit as well. And definitely we've obviously got ghost. Plus is coming out. Fairly soon as well, which I'm very excited about. you've seen the last rebooted version of it. Yeah. I think he did an amazing job with that. And I think it was justifiably sort of Akhenaten as well, which is. Rightly so. Good. I'll be happy. We're happy. Thank you so much. For hosting and guiding us through. And you are, you are our renewal rule. Yes. Oscar's review. Yes. Nice. You ready to The pop portal cut the best. Episode 20. Actually actually 2020. Thank you very much. I felt IPT. There's your new podcast. It's touch screen. Good.
