(Former Healthy Habits Podcast)

In #3rd episode of joyful. I meet with Dr Cyril Forestier in Grenoble, France. Cyril has a PhD in Sports science titled: Beliefs and self-control on individuals with cardiovascular diseases. He obtained his degree at the University of Grenoble Alpes and he followed his career in academia for the next couple of years, working on engagement in healthy behaviours such as, for instance, physical activity or food choices. In May 2023, he decided to quit academia and started his own business. Passionate about trail running and sports, he is now a personal trainer and the author of Courir Mieux (@courir_mieux) , a blog, website, instagram and podcast, where he brings you information about trail and good training practices.

In our conversation we discuss the lights and shadows of working in academia, Cyril's personal experiences working at university and his reasons for quitting. We talk about the topic of his research - self control and how it may help us in maintaining a healthy training routine. We discuss  the concepts of ego depletion and willpower, and Cyril shares a scientific perspective, on the difficulty of choice between what's good for us and what may be bad, but remains tempting (e.g. going for a run VS watching TV and eating pizza 😊 ).

🫴🏼 Do we have limited willpower resources?
🍕 "If I workout, I can indulge and eat delicious pizza" - is it a correct way of thinking?
🪄 Which articles should I trust? What is wrong with science? How to understand scientific methodology and why it's so important.
