Speaker 1:

Alright, welcome back to the King's Perspective. I'm King Chill. Welcome back to the show, episode 14, week 14. Yes, again, I'm amazed by how many weeks I've done this far, and this is consecutive, week after week after week, with no breaks, no stops, all gas. But again, this would not happen if it wasn't for my loyal listeners here that check in each and every week to hear me ramble on about basic stuff that you probably have already come across in articles. But I guess just me taking the words on the paper with my voice and bringing it to life with some enthusiasm will try to enthusiasm. But no, I appreciate each and every one of you for coming out and listening to me again ramble on here. I guess you find something interesting about me sharing my little anecdotes and tidbits here. So, as I always say, my catchphrase here is we talk about all things in film, music, sports, television and video games, weekly pop culture. Just share my thoughts and opinions on certain things and see if it resonates with you. So, with that being said, let's go ahead and get started with film, and we're going to talk about some of the most popular films right now. So we have DOOM, part 2, visually Thrilling and narratively epic sci-fi film Continues Dennis Villanueva's adaptation of the beloved series.

Speaker 1:

It follows the mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he tries to unite the Channy and the Freeman. So it's got a low budget compared to some other big movies, but it's killing the box office right now. So with a low budget it's able to recoup its budget. And then some Another popular film talked about maybe a week ago or two weeks ago Damsel. The action-packed film features Millie Bobby Brown as the dutiful Damsel who gets recruited by a royal family. It balances a gutsy performance with a underpowered story. And then one film that I really need to get around to watching is Spaceman.

Speaker 1:

The Adam Sandler film Stars as an astronaut in solitary research mission On the edge of the solar system. The film explores appointed themes but falls short in engaging with its ideas. So from what I can see here, it's probably just one of those Adam Sandler films that just missed the mark. He was trying something different, so I can't blame him for that, and as the years have progressed he's gotten more away from trying to balance some comedy films with some more serious roles. I cannot think of that film. Somebody can correct me if I'm wrong, but I want to say it was rain over me that he had did to me, I think, stood out for Adam Sandler. He has one of his most serious films dealing with an individual who lost his family during 9-11. And then Uncut Gyms. I wouldn't consider that a comedy but it definitely was another dramatic role for him. That was very interesting and it was great. Honestly, punch Drunk Love I haven't gotten around to watching that. So those are three films that I would say when it comes to Adam Sandler branching out from his comedic roles, those films do stand out when people talk about him. Let's see here Now new releases coming.

Speaker 1:

This week we have Godzilla plus Kong. The New Empire is the latest entry into the Monsterverse franchise. It follows the explosive shadow oh no, not shadow Showdown of Godzilla and Kong with an all new cinematic adventure. In the epic battle, the almighty Kong and the fearsome Godzilla face a colossal, undiscovered threat hidden within our world. This mysterious adversary challenges not only their existence but ours as well. From the previews it's another thing. I called it like a buddy cop, but with animals, or Kaiju, as my boy I am Godson would say. He had to correct me because I kept calling him like just Monster University. He's like nah, I was like I am Godson, like what are they actually called? And he was like, yeah, man, they call him Kaiju. So yeah, because I was drawing blanks. But yeah, so it's a Kaiju buddy cop. They're taking on this massive orangutan that is going to require both of them to partner up. They're like the best of enemies In the land of saints and sinners is a gripping action drama that transports us to 1974 Ireland, a time when Northwestern region gripped or grappled with political unrest.

Speaker 1:

The film begins with a bomb detonation on Shankill Road, orchestrated by a group of self-proclaimed revolutionaries fighting for a independent Ireland. Many lives are lost in the explosion and these fugitives seek refuge in the forgotten country of Dungale. And in rounding it out, here is the listener. It follows the story of Beth, a helpline volunteer who is part of a small army that answers phone calls every night for people feeling lonely, broken and in need of help. The film provides a cross-section of American society through the prism of mental health. Last night on the helpline reveals the struggles faced by callers and the emotional toll it takes on those who listen and try to assist. Alright, now onto films with replay value.

Speaker 1:

Spirited Away, the film by I'm probably going to butcher the name Ayo Matsuki, demands a rewatch based on solely its stunning visuals. It takes multiple rewatches just to pick up on all the fine details, including in its animation and storytelling, so I'll get around to watching this. One of my favorites here is a kid Homeward Bound, so I'm going to get my synopsis here so hopefully you can catch up and follow me here. The story revolves around three beloved pets Chance, american Bulldog, selfish and Free Spirited Attitude. Shadow, a wise golden retriever, and sassy, a pampered Himalayan cat. They belong to the Brunford family Jamie, peter and Hope. When the family temporarily moves to San Francisco due to the mother's marriage, the pets are left at the ranch owned by a family friend. However, misunderstandings lead the animals to believe they have been abandoned. Shadow refuses to accept his destiny and decides to make his way back home. Chance, sassy, join him on this adventure.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, it's essentially a film about these animals. They're greatly trained by Disney, because you can have told me anything different that Now you didn't see the, the dog's lips move, or the cat, but the action at that time of the animals moving and moving to what they're saying, that they're going to do, as a kid just kind of mesmerized me and I was like, oh, why is my pet not doing this? Like, why is my dog or my cat not this smart to move and try to do all this other stuff with the? Uh bruh, they're, they're trained, and this is for a movie they have to do all that. But as I got older I realized that. But again, as a kid watching this film, I was those greatly mesmerized by these animals uh, moving, um, let's see here. To round it out, here we have Congo.

Speaker 1:

The plot revolves around a quest for a rare blue diamond that could enable revolutionary communication. Laser uh travi calm employs uh. Charles Travis and Jeffrey Wings discover the ruins of a lost city near a remote volcano in the Congo jungle. However, they lose contact with the team and the remote camera shows a camp destroyed in slew of corpses before an ape-like creature destroys the camera. So yeah, man, this movie was crazy. I remember seeing this and it's like, yeah, I don't never want to go to Africa and be caught dead in the the, the middle of some jungle that I'm not familiar with. Um, it, um takes a team of researchers to go there to try to recoup um, um, the uh the travi calm um, employees. They do end up finding one. But um he's, he's brought back by voodoo priests and villagers um to essentially wake up. But when he sees the fake, not the face, but when he sees another ape, he freaks out, has a heart attack and dies. But um, the film, without giving too much of a way, it the key to them getting the diamond and escaping takes a domesticated ape that side. They can do sign language to basically kind of speak to these other weird uh foreign apes best way to put it. But overall the adventure, the, the, the thrill, the hunt for the diamond and the action of these um unkept apes uh makes for a great movie.

Speaker 1:

Now we're gonna move on here to music and we're going to do my favorite uh creative genre here famous musicians from the state of New Mexico. We have john denver. Born in New Mexico, john denver was beloved singer-songwriter known for his poetic lyrics and heartfelt melodies. His blend of country folk pop music resonated with audience worldwide, with hits like take me home, country roads and rocky mountain high. Uh submitted him in america's music history. Glenn cambell raised in albuquerque, glenn cambell started as a sought after uh musician before becoming a successful solo artist. Um his smooth vocals, impressive guitar skills, heartfelt songwriting made him a household name uh in both country and pop. And then demi lavato uh, a singer-songwriter actress hails from new mexico, gained fame with her powerful vocals and released several successful albums. Her openness about mental health struggles has also made her an influential figure in pop culture.

Speaker 1:

All right, now we're going to move on, still within music, uh, new music releases, upcoming albums, uh, to look forward in the coming weeks and months. So, march 21st we have uh any see any see a kim uh the truest, adriana linker, a bright future. Let's see. We have the group called uh watch a tacky I believe that's how you pronounce it tiger's blood. Now, march 28th, we have Beyonce um, cowboy carter, um, and if you're uh trying to figure out like, okay, she's got new music. What's, what's the song? Uh, texas, hold them. Uh, it's been going crazy everywhere. It's like most requested um sharyl crow, evolution and keringa ben. Uh a la sala.

Speaker 1:

April fourth we have var 2 tm nordic flora series, part six out all music. April fifth we have black keys, ohio players, kala plandry, jones, hey gary, hey don, again uh with uh carah bm. Uh a la sala, the nice on april fifth all right now, billboard hot 100 chart trending tracks. We have carnival by connie weston, ty dollerside features rich the kid and playboy cardy has been holding the top spot for four weeks. Yeah, that's a very uh infectious tune. Um, I will say he has a hit on his hands. Loose control, teddy swims is climbing the charts, currently at number two, loving on me by jack harlow as another hit previously reaching the top position. Uh, beautiful things by benson boom and texas hold them by Beyonce, who we just talked about. Um, round out the top five, all right. So that closes out our segment for music.

Speaker 1:

Now we're going to move over here to sports. Mlb mookie betz, freddy freeman and uh show hi old tani received rock star treatment in soul ahead of the opening series. The trio uh attached media attention as they prepared for the games. Now, um, I would say probably out of those three. Um old tani isn't a bit of hot water. Um, just real quick. Okay.

Speaker 1:

So apparently he's got a interpreter, or, yeah, an interpreter for his native language, who was essentially paying off gambling debts and wiring money. Now what they're trying to figure out is is uh show hi old tani, was he involved any way? And this, was this his debts, or was it merely the interpreter's debts? But they're trying to figure out, because how does someone wire four, five million without your knowledge? Um, so now there's an investigation on show hi, old tani as well. And if it does show that he was involved or some type of involvement, and it goes even deeper with um betting on the games and things of that nature, um, that's gonna suck for the los angeles dodgers because they just paid this guy a huge sum of money. So if there's any type of punishment that has to be levied against old tani, you know I don't know well what they're gonna do, because if you suspend them then it's like there goes all the the the payment uh that you gave that player down the drain for the season yankies ace garret coal received positive news after receipt, uh, after visiting dr nill. Uh, arch him, uh, tommy john, surgey has been ruled out and he will focus on rest and rehab and ailing elbow. Yeah, you really don't want to do that, tommy johns. Um, anytime, just in general, anytime you go for surgery, you're just never right after that. If you can just try to let it naturally heal um certain injuries like that, um, try it, it's the best way to do it. And then the houston astral's expressed interest in starting pitcher blake snell during the free agency. However, agreement on the contract doesn't seem imminent. Snell's asking price reportedly played a role in negotiations. So, that being said, they're probably going to come back to the table and try to offer him what he's looking for, or they're going to pass on him On to the NBA.

Speaker 1:

We have Shay Gildris, alexander Giannis, antean Tocupo or Chasing Nicola Jokic for MVP title, with Luca Dottage gaining ground as well. So we've talked about this in previous shows. Those are the main figureheads that are in the running for the NBA MVP. If there's anybody else I could think of, that would probably be added in the mix. That can maybe take one of these guys out and insert somebody else in. Now, I think this is it. I think you're literally looking at who you've got there. Now, the only person I would have said not so much taking someone out, but an insertion would have been Joelle and B but again, we talked about that before where Joelle, during January, injured his knee. If he did not injure his knee and continued on his dominant performance, he'd be right in this. The mix as MVP race Coming to Ramp is close to passing Shaquille Anil on the all-time scoring list. The Denver Nuggets have claimed a number one seed in the NBA standings. The NBA playoffs are set to begin on April 20th.

Speaker 1:

Now on to the NFL. Keenan Allen, now the wide receiver for the Chicago Bears before being traded, expressed his desire to finish his career with the Los Angeles Chargers. But sometimes things don't go as planned. The Los Angeles Rams have agreed to terms with quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo with a one-year deal, so that's going to be good. I think Jimmy still got some things in the tank that he can go out there. It'll be a great addition, great backup to Matthew Stafford. Aaron Donald, one of the NFL's most feared defensive players, has announced his retirement after a standout 10-year career with the Los Angeles Rams. Just want to super bowl. If I remember Karl Brackley back in 2002. See, yeah, that had been two years ago. So kudos to him, one of the most feared defensive linemen. So I'm sure there's a lot of running backs, full backs, quarterbacks that are glad to see him gone.

Speaker 1:

All right on to the NFL. Did I say the NFL? I mean NHL, sorry. An impressive performance by the Los Angeles Kings with Anzu Kul Pitar. There we go that he two goals in Cam Tobot, making 28 saves in a shutout against the Chicago Blackhawks. Tyler Tuffoli, recently traded from the Devils, scored his first two goals with the Winnipeg Jets and a shutout win. And then Laurent Bursat secured his second consecutive shutout with the Jets. And then Nathan McKinnon is a strong contender for the NHL MVP title this season. Tj Oshoi there we go, celebrates his milestone of playing a thousand in a NHL games with the Washington Capitals, almost in NFL again. So that rounds out sports. And now we're going to move on over here to television, and here are some of the new television releases.

Speaker 1:

X-men 97, season one, a continuation of the beloved animated series, praised for staying true to its roots while advancing the franchise. So it just premiered on Friday. No, no, no, no one Friday, I believe it was Tuesday and it had a two episode release. So I think that was fitting, because what that two episode release did was it got you hot from, because what is this now? It's a continuation. If it would have continued back the way it was because, yeah, I would have picked up back in 1997 it would have been season 7. So this is essentially season 7, you know, drawn out over like 20 plus years. So a season 7, essentially it just picks up after.

Speaker 1:

Season 6 gets you familiar with all the X-Men after Charles Xavier goes off into space to recover. So now you have the X-Men. You know Cyclops, jean Grey, wolverine, gambit, rogue, jubilee, morph, beast all left to fend and take over the Institute. So the natural leader would be Cyclops and everybody else falls in line. But the one caveat that Cyclops did not foresee was in the event that all hell breaks loose, charles Xavier had a contingency plan and that was hey, you know what guys, especially you Cyclops. Hey, I trust you, my dude. But, man, you know what? I'm gonna let my homeboy Actually be the leader for y'all, and that's Magneto.

Speaker 1:

And we all know Magneto is one of the is essentially a Anti-hero. I Don't think he's a hero or a villain, he's just anti hero, anti villain. He's just himself. He's got his own rules that he plays by On a cord that he lives by. So what we see at the end of Episode one is Magneto stepping into the shoes of Charles Xavier or Professor X and Letting the and putting the X-Men on notice. Like hey, like I'm him now. So you fall in line and y'all report to me.

Speaker 1:

The only person that see well, I mean all of them for the most part did not agree to it, the person that took of the hardest would have been Cyclops, because Cyclops was basically, like you know, next in line, like he felt, like he was that dude, I'm next in line, like if Professor X dies, which he did, essentially, this is, this is me, I'm next up, and it didn't happen that way for him. So then now we fast forward episode 2, right, and They've got a low-level villain that comes in and his name escapes me now and it's sad man. I wish I knew what the name was, but he escapes me and I'm not gonna take the time yet. Well, let's just say, like I said, a low-level villain that takes over who's acquired some of the Sentinel weapon tree From the help of Bolliver task and Gil I can't remember what his name was, I think it was Gil. There was a staunch leader against the X-Men and mutants, so he linked up with these two individuals to help get Weapons weaponized that would be able to neutralize X-Men.

Speaker 1:

So on episode 2, the X-Men should get surrounded by the US government and they want to take in magneto force crimes against humanity, I mean since the beginning of season 1 up until now. So Magnetals, like you know what, to show good faith, I've turned a new leaf. I'm gonna turn myself in and I'll stand For my crimes against humanity in court. So I have my day in court. So he's being asked all these questions by the US government. You know he seems to be, you know, very charismatic and answer him as best as he can. But as it's going on, the Capitals being stormed and it's being stormed by these anti mutant, anti government Militia and they kick into the doors, they shooting everybody, taking names.

Speaker 1:

Now, one problem that I think I had with the X-Men's approach was you knew the capital was being stormed. You're thought processes, okay, we're. No, we know they're here for magneto, but let's all split up and go defend the front doors. No, you stay put. If they're coming to you, let them come to you. You've got strength in numbers of everybody there opposed to everybody. Hey, half the X-Men in here, half the other X-Men here Nah, that's what they wanted. And you fell for the trap. They take over the capital.

Speaker 1:

Cyclops gets beat I mean pretty bad where he's inside the capital. So I understand he can't use his eye beams, laser beams, so he's got to control that. But this dude putting the work on Cyclops and then all the other X-Men are trying to fend off his homeboys too. But, like I said, they've got weapons that can neutralize the X-Men. So they take out the first wave of X-Men, led by Cyclops, and then go into the capital and storm it. Well, they're already in the capital, sorry, but they go into the court proceeding rooms and storm that. And then the main low level villain shoots this beam right at storm and knocks her to the ground, neutralizes her where she loses her power. I don't know what type of weapon this is, because they didn't really say what it was, but all I know is storm can't do storm stuff no more.

Speaker 1:

So Magneto sees this, he gets teed off, he almost comes to the point where he loses his cool and is about to kill this low level villain dude. But he's like you know what? What would Charles Xavier do? This is not the way. So he neutralizes the guy as best as he can and lets the court proceedings go on to show still in good favor. Hey, y'all can do what you want to me, but still I'm going to act with civil obesity to you, not obesity, civil obeying to you guys. And it seems to work in his favor.

Speaker 1:

So then, during that, though, I forgot to go back. Just maybe five minutes before they storm the court proceeding room, jean Grey telepathically contacts Cyclops and is like, hey, I'm getting ready to have this baby. So that's another thing. I need to go back to episode one. When we get introduced to the X-Men, jean Grey is pregnant. So I was like, dang OK, a lot's taking place transpired within 20 plus years. So you fast forward back to after episode one two episode two she's trying to reach him to let him know hey, I'm having this baby. And he basically has to leave the fight that they're already losing. Like, hey, I know he's supposed to be helping, I know we're supposed to be helping Magneto to defend him right now, to be at an earlier protection, but I got to go, I got a baby on the way. He literally leaves. I'm like yo, this is crazy. But overall, like I said, they neutralize the militia group, they go back to the X-Mension licking their wounds.

Speaker 1:

Everybody's chilling and one thing that stood out that's going to be brewing is Gambit. Look out for Gambit. And what I mean by that is, if you've seen X-Men, you knew throughout the whole series Gambit always had a thing for Rogue. Now, what we didn't know is between that time gap from season six to season seven. Like I said, there's a big 20 years missing stuff.

Speaker 1:

Rogue and Magneto became a thing on the low. So and I guess Rogue's power, she touches anybody without a glove, she absorbs their power, energy and all that other stuff. But at least with Magneto he's the only unique person of mutants where he can actually interact with her and have physical mutant touch with her. So she can touch him and he can touch her and she does not zap his powers. So you can see how relationship would form when she can essentially be physically intimate with someone. So towards the end of the episode, like I said, everybody's looking at their wounds and chopping it up, talking and all this other stuff. My homeboy Gambit, he creeping up the stairs trying to go to her room to go say hey to her goodnight or whatever, and he sees her coming up out of Magneto's office like oh, my feelings are hurt now. So he's kind of like hey, when was you going to tell me? Type stuff. But I guess that will be left for episode three or four. As the season progresses They'll have that heart to heart moment of when was you with him? And you know I've been chasing after you for the longest. And then another bomb show at the end of episode to was Gene Gray shows up to the door. So I was like, okay, well, we know Cyclops, we thought was with Gene Gray and had a baby, but then there's another Gene Gray here. Apparently, either Cyclops is with a clone of Gene Gray or the one that showed up to the door is a clone of Gene Gray, but we'll find out in episode three.

Speaker 1:

Furthermore, new TV shows the Valley, as they navigate the complexities of managing business, rocky relationships and dynamic friendships. The series offers a glimpse into the personal growth and challenges of parenthood. This cast includes a familiar face like Jack Taylor and Brittany Cartwright, known from Vanderpump Rules. So yeah, essentially it's a spin-off of Vanderpump Rules with Jack Taylor, brittany Cartwright. So it's these two titular characters and then their friends, some from Vanderpump Rules, some not. But right now it's not known if they're even gonna get a second season because right now Jacks and Brittany the two stars of the show, essentially have separated in another way to do a divorce. So it's like when you're watching this show you can kind of see the unraveling of their relation in real time. So it's crazy.

Speaker 1:

Then Wild Cards, season one. The show revolves around a spirited con woman and a demoted by the book detective who are given a chance to redeem themselves the catch. They must find a way to work together, each using their unique skills to solve crimes. The season finale left viewers on a cliffhanger, hinting at a very likely season two. Popular TV shows to look out for. We have Invincible season two, an animated superhero show known for its vivid world building and bracing action. Three body problems season one, a sci-fi series tackling ambitious sources.

Speaker 1:

Ambitious source material with a solid first season. Showgun, limited series. A visually stunning and culturally rich adaptation that has been highly praised. Now, originally, when this one was talked about, it said season one, but then, as time went on, the creators was like no, this is just good enough as it is now where it's going to be a limited series and it's only going to be just one season essentially, and that's it. So if you were thinking that this show, if you've watched it, is going to have a world building where it's going to be season two, three, four, whatever, nah, sadly mistaken, it's done.

Speaker 1:

Tv shows with replay value Black Mirror it's a British anthology TV television series. Sorry, I'm getting tongue tied here. Each episode does into a variety of genres, but most are set in near future, dystopian worlds featuring sci-fi technology, a captivating blend, speculative fiction drawing inspiration from Twilight Zone. Yeah, black Mirror by far is one of those things that are the greatest. It gives me everything I want from Outer Limits Twilight Zone. It usually appears once a year on Netflix, but I don't know if they're doing anything this year, so maybe next year.

Speaker 1:

Mr Rogers Neighborhood was an iconic American half-hour educational children's television show aired from 1968 to 2001,. Created by and hosted by Fred Rogers, the show aimed to connect with young viewers through gentle presentations, music and heartfelt messages. 11 years after the show concluded, animated spin-off was titled Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood on PBS. For me, yeah, I grew up in a TK, in kindergarten and whenever it was time growing up, pbs they throw on. Mr Rogers would be the first thing we would watch, usually around mid-early morning, leading into afternoon, and attach you all the basics that you would need to know with caring, sharing, being kind to one another, life skills, counting, writing, math, reading. It's probably one of the best educational shows for a kid growing up when they're trying to be very informative and impressionable kids at that point in time to develop you.

Speaker 1:

And then, in Living Color, a groundbreaking sketch comedy show that aired from 1990 to 1994, created by Kenan Ivey Waynes. The show featured a mix of short humorous skits, rap music and dancing. The Waynes family acted as a central cast members Memorable stock characters such as Mr and Mrs Brooks with their catchphrase we Steal Together, but the two of them always found ways to try to be little one another and also kill one another with booby traps set throughout the house. A head detective was literally just a head with short arms and legs, like Mr Potato Head, but he always got the job done as a detective, which was weird. Mo Money, that little skit there, which also spanned off into a movie. Anton Jackson, the down-on-his-luck guy that was always innovative with his ideas or thoughts on the world. Vera DeMilo, which was Jim Carrey's character of a female bodybuilder that also wanted to be a sex symbol. Benita Bertel, if you remember that character, she always had two catchphrases I ain't one to gossip. And then don't talk bad about Miss Jenkins. He was portrayed by Kim Waines. So one of the Waines family members.

Speaker 1:

Let's see Men On Film, the flamboyant friend couple David Allen Greer and Damon Waines, who would tackle what was trending on film and give their perspectives. So yeah, those two characters, man, they were something else. Wanda by Jamie Foxx how can we forget Wanda Fire? Marshall Bill another Jim Carrey classic character. Calhoun Toves, david Allen Gears character, who was a blues singer who always would have a guitar and would sing very depressing songs when reminiscing about certain things. Homie the Clown who could forget that? By Damon Waines. I just knew at some point that they would have created some type of movie based on him, but they never did. They never capitalized that on that. And then, of course, when it comes to dancing hip-hop, the Fly Girls who could forget them? So Living Color had it all, everything you needed.

I am King Chill, if you found what I was talking about here on this episode.
