Speaker 1:

Yo yo yo. Welcome back to the King's Perspective. This is King Chill, king's Perspective, episode 24. Yes, that's right, episode 24, and the giveaway is still going on. As I said before, if you're able to type in King Chill and Buzzsprout at the same time and Google will pull my page under the search bar and it'll be the first result there. Once you're on my website, you can go to your favorite episode, which is pretty much listed by number, and there it will say contact me, where you can leave a memo or message about why I said episode was your favorite, where you can leave a memo or message about why I said episode was your favorite, and again, by episode 25, I will announce the winner on that episode. So, yeah, still going strong. Episode 24, concurrent, consistent, yes, as I do.

Speaker 1:

As always, I want to send a shout out to all my loyal listeners here who take the time to come out of their busy schedule and give me a look, see or listen. I mean there's so many podcasts out there that seem to be more, I would say, more entertaining or more informational, just overall, just a little bit better. But hey, you're here with me to fill 30 to 45 minutes of your work, week or weekend to go over certain things you might have missed as far as movies, music, video games, films, sports just kind of put you up on game of what's going on for the week. So let's get started. So film is always my favorite topic to start off here with. So here are some of the most popular movies right now that you can check out. Friosa, a Mad Max saga directed by George Miller this is retroactively enriches the Fury Road with greater emotion. Half through it doesn't quite match its propulsive throttle. It does star Anna Taylor Joy and Chris Hemsworth. So it's a bit of a prequel, sequel to the Mad max of yesteryears and the most recent one a few years back.

Speaker 1:

I was just looking, actually, on some of the numbers projected and the results. I think that film only did like 4.5 on a budget that was probably, like man, probably 50. And they said that they're taking the film out of 88 theaters in the U S. Um, so it's like, based off of that, they're like, hey, we're not going to spend any more time promoting budget, uh, renting spaces for the movie theaters. Now, um, at this point it's going straight to, uh, streaming platforms. Um, so I just don't understand how a film like that does so bad. But Bad Boys the most recent one that just came out, number four did much better. I mean, it's different films but it's action. So you know, that's why I'm comparing them.

Speaker 1:

As far as the genre goes, maybe it's the mixture of Martin Lawrence, will Smith and that chemistry that's been building over time with the action and comedy, versus this one here where Chris Hemsworth and Anna Joy Taylor are acting together for the first time, and maybe it just didn't translate. Well, I really just don't know, but I'm just curious to know. So I would say, if anyone has any points, pointers on that, please send me a message on X, or formerly known as Twitter, what your thoughts are on why that film Furiosa did so underwhelming. Ok, another popular film. We have Garfield. The movie Garfield again is voiced by we spoke about this, I think it was last week or the week before that by Chris Pratt, who embarks on a wild outdoor adventure. In this animated film, samuel L Jackson, nicholas Holt and Hannah Wallingham also lend their voices to the characters, and Hannah Wallingham also lend their voices to the characters. And then, If yeah, I think I talked about this at least two, three weeks ago Written and directed by John Krasinski If follows a girl who discovers she can see everyone's imaginary friends. The film stars Emily Blunt, ryan Reynolds and Matt Damon.

Speaker 1:

Now, moving on to uh films that you can check out coming out this week, we have inside out to returns to the mind of the newly minted teenager Riley, just as headquarters is undergoing a sudden demolition to make room for something entirely unexpected. New emotions, um, the familiar emotions, uh, for new emotions. But the familiar emotion, sorry, uh. Joy, sadness, anger, fear and disgust find themselves unsure how to feel when anxiety shows up. And it seems anxiety isn't alone. A new emotion like envy and embarrassment joined the mix. So, yeah, if you've seen the first Inside Out, it was dealing with Riley and this was prior to becoming a teenager. It's more like preteens. So we all know how that is dealing with a child, whether it be your own child or niece or nephew or cousin. That's not quite a team. But getting into that team phase and all those emotions coming up and having to deal with that, well, now you have puberty hitting with those emotions with Inside Out 2. So it's going to make for a very, very fun, pleasant time for those Pixar parents.

Speaker 1:

We have Tuesday. We have Tuesday. Tuesday is a fantastical drama that revolves around a single mother, zora, and her terminally ill daughter, tuesday. The two share a close bond and Zora tries to maintain a stoic appearance regarding Tuesday's inevitable death, all while confronting an astonishing talking bird that appears to represent death. Yeah, that's going to be interesting, but yeah, it's definitely like. I've seen on the trailer a film about a mother and daughter going on this journey and a big parrot that appears to seem to talk to Tuesday during this traumatic time, I guess, trying to come to terms, or with ease, with death. So I guess it's like your representation of like death is near you. Uh, if death appeared in the form of you know your loved one, like a grandparent, in the form of you know your loved one, like a grandparent, would you be easy, would it be easier to handle death at that point? So yeah, and then, lastly, we have Ultraman Rising. Ken Soto, a famous but egotistical baseball player, secretly lives a double life as a giant superhero, ultraman, when he defeats the Kaiju and reluctantly adopts her baby. After defeating her mother, he's forced to balance his career, his hero duties and newfound parenting responsibilities. So those are the new films that you'll be checking out this Thursday or Friday, the two Inside Out and Tuesday Will be in movie theaters. And then Ultraman is a Netflix film Now. Tuesday actually may be on Prime, hulu or Netflix as well, but Inside Out definitely will be in the movie theaters Now, films with great replay value.

Speaker 1:

We have one of my all-time favorites, the Last Dragon. Let me give you a little synopsis of the Last Dragon. So in New York City, a martial artist student named Leroy Green, also known as Bruce Leroy, dreams of becoming a great martial artist, like his idol, bruce Lee. His master explains that he has almost reached the final level of martial arts accomplishment, known as the Last Dragon Martial arts. Martial artists who reach the final level can concentrate on mystical energy into their, their hands, causing them to have the glow. Only true masters can exhibit the glow over their entire body. Leroy embarks on a spiritual journey to find his master, some dumb boy who supposedly has the other half of the medallion that can unlock the power of the glove. Meanwhile, an evil martial artist named show enough, I'm sorry, I had to do it. I had to do it because that's usually how it is in the film when he's introduced. They were like shown up. So yeah, I'm sorry.

Speaker 1:

Also known as the Shogun of Harlem, sees Leroy as the only obstacle being acknowledged as a true master of martial arts. So yeah, that film man produced by Barry Gordy of Motown. So yeah, that film man produced by Barry Gordy of Motown was, without looking and Googling, it definitely was an 80s movie. I would say it's probably like 83, I think between 83, 85. Don't, don't hold me to it, but if someone knows again, please tweet me. If someone knows again, please tweet me. But yeah, that film man was great Because at that point you got to see, at that time, martial arts, which was a big thing, especially for those in the black community who really were into that type of stuff. Got to see someone like themselves on screen in New York practicing martial arts and becoming a hero in a different capacity, which was, you know, really great. But the film overall who, he who possesses the glow is really the true master. So, seeing all the obstacles that Leroy had to go through with him, and so his family not being quite accepting or not understanding, and then the the obstacle he had to go through with Shonuf, I mean, was just legendary, legendary stuff.

Speaker 1:

We have Rocky 3. The story revolves around Rocky Balboa, who faces this ultimate challenge from a powerful new contender named Clubber Lang. After losing his title to Clubber Lang, rocky must turn to his former rival, apollo Creed, played by Carl Weathers RIP, for help in regaining his throne as the undisputed fighting champion. Yeah, I think that's probably by far one of my best Rockies to watch. I think it's just because, growing up seeing Mr T as a hero with the A-Team and you know I pity the fool, you know all that other stuff you know MrT was, you know, certified dude. You don't want to mess with so with, so you know, seeing him in this role, uh, but as a, as a villain, was was crazy in the lines that he delivered as well. Uh, the trash talk was crazy, the way he was talking to rocky and the way he was talking about rocky's woman, adrian, talking about you want a real man, oh, oh, and it's yeah. I think he even punched Mick. I think that's. I think, yeah, he punched. I don't think he did it on purpose, but I think Mick was in his way and he punched him or pushed him off and that's what gave Mick the heart attack and died. But yeah, man Rocky lost a lot in that film and it was just. It was crazy to see it like that, all the stuff he was losing and how he had to battle back and come back and finally beat Clepper Lang. But yeah, that was a true roller coaster that someone would have to go through in a movie and I think that's a lot of times what most people want to see Beginning, middle and end. But through all that, a roller coaster, ups and downs, ups and downs, like you know all the craziness. So, yeah, to me Rocky III. And then close it out.

Speaker 1:

Here we have Captain America. Winter Soldier, as Steve Rogers, plays by Chris Evans, grapples with his role in the modern world. He teams up with fellow Avengers and SHIELD agents, black Widow. Together they face a new threat from history an assassin known as a Winter Soldier. Well, it's not much to give away. This film is old, so by now I hope all my listeners who are listening now have seen the film. But the Winter Soldier was essentially Bucky Bucky Barnes, who was a childhood friend of Steve Rogers, and Bucky Barnes, who was a childhood friend of Steve Rogers. Steve Rogers got the super soldier serum, who became Captain America, but Bucky was still there alongside Steve fighting those wars and then it was until that unfortunate event in Captain America, one where he basically gets thrown off the train and we thought that was the last of them, right? No, he gets recovered and is brainwashed by Hydra and they got these weird coatings that they'll just say at a hat's notice. And all of a sudden, dude's triggered and just goes on a killing rampage. Uh, ask, um ask, uh, tony Stark's peoples. Uh, matter of fact, that's what set off the whole civil war.

Speaker 1:

Once everything came out about, uh, the fallout, knowing that Tony Stark's, iron Man's parents were killed by the Winter Soldier, who was Bucky Barnes, who happens to be Captain America's best friend, you know, cap was like no, I can't let you take my dude out. But then it's like Tony's like bro, like we cool too, like we cool people's like you really going to take this dude side who just killed my parents. You know, from way back and everybody hid it from me and I'm just finding out now. Like, yeah, it made for a very weird scene in the movie theaters because it was like, oh man, I feel it, because, like I understand, bucky was brainwashed, so you got to go easy on him. But then, at the same time, like I was siding with Stark, revenge, Like bro, like, like you kill my peoples, like you know there's there's got to be repercussions for that. So yeah, winter Soldier, though, was a very spy thriller, whodunit, espionage. A lot of people held this one here, captain America Winter Soldier, as probably the best in the franchise, because there's only been three Captain America Winter Soldier, which was the second film, and then war, which is my favorite because, like I said, not only the fallout that you have, uh, between captain america and um iron man finding out about well, captain america already knew, but was hiding it from tony stark's iron man, but that fallout but you have that big battle in that abandoned uh airport, uh from captain amer America's team versus Iron Man's team. So yeah, it was crazy. So to me, I like Civil War, but you can't have Civil War without the buildup of Captain America Winter Soldier. All right. So that's on with film, and now we're going to go here to music.

Speaker 1:

So famous musicians from Missouri. Nelly standout, artist from St Louis, made an astounding impact on the hip hop scene with his distinct style and chart topping hits such as Hot in here. His Missouri roots are a profound element of his identity and influence his approach to music, resonating with fans worldwide as of right now. I mean he probably still puts out music, but it's not quite the magnitude that he had. And I mean this dude had a choke hold, uh, early two thousands to mid two thousands, but then after that it kind of fizzled out. But you can go nowhere without hearing something from Nelly or him being featured on somebody's record. So, yeah, nelly was legit. Ike and Tina Turner, with deep connections to St Louis Missouri, have left an indomitable legacy on R&B music. Their electrifying hit Proud Mary, is just one example of their enduring influence on the genre enduring influence on the genre.

Speaker 1:

And then, lastly, sheryl Crow, originating from Kennet, missouri, boasts stories, a career highlighted by multiple Grammy awards and significant contributions to the pop and rock music. Her breakout hit, all I Want to Do, propelled her to international stardom and solidified her as a place of a leading female artist in the music industry. Yeah, that all I want to do. Oh, man, I want to say man. I was definitely man in first or second grade when that joint came out, so that was like either 91, 92, 93, but couldn't go anywhere without hearing that song. I remember being on the bus and getting a ride to school and the bus driver was like blaring that on the bus, dancing and driving at the same time while seated. But to that song. But it was a weird song though, because it was very pop with a little bit of R&B, but it definitely had a sound that was country into it as well, but it infused at least three genres in it. So I'd never heard a song like that at that time when I was listening to music, but it was. It's definitely undeniably a good hit. It definitely was a good record for her and I think she'd been out before I want to say been out before, but she was already out but that was the breakthrough hit, and what better breakthrough hit to have than All I Want to Do?

Speaker 1:

All right, so here are some recent albums that you should be checking out this week. Uh, willie nelson, the border legacy, the veteran country singers 75th album balances, humor and contemplation 75 albums dang, that's crazy. Andrea day. Cassandra an impassioned second album from the grammy and golden globe winner singer and actress. So cassandra comes out this week, so check it out. Draco rosa I'm probably gonna butcher this, but bear with me. Reflexos de lo eterno Sorry, this set of covers from the classic Latin rock era is revelatory. Lucius Wild Woman New recordings, a complete re-recording of the band's debut mixing, technicolor loyal takes and guest feature revisions. A rojo aft tab night. Rain, a poignant, sensuous meditation night by brooklyn based singer, composer and producer. And then Maya Hawke I believe this is the famous actress who is the daughter of Ethan Hawke has an album, chaos Angel, a more self-assured third album recorded with prior collaborations.

Speaker 1:

Now here are some popular songs of 2024 that you might enjoy. So this would be for essentially the end of May going into June, and some of these songs I mean they've been playing at the top of the year, still making their way later or halfway into the year. So we have Teddy swims lose control. Benton Boone, slow it down. Artemis I liked the way Sabrina Carpenter espresso which I just talked about on the last episode here. So that song's really really, really popular. Do a loop on Houdini, not to be confused with Eminem Houdini. Uh, 21 the Craving. Kendrick Lamar not like us. Interesting fact he is doing a pop-up event in the old Lakers Forum on June 19th. It's Kendrick and Friends. It will be live streamed on Amazon and, I think, spotify. Those who are lucky enough to get tickets will be able to see this concert live on the 19th Megan Estallion, boa, charlie XCX360, and Chappelle Ronan. Good Luck, babe. So that's our musical takes.

Speaker 1:

Now sports Everybody likes sports, right? So for the MLB in the MVP race Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees. We have Mookie Betts of the Los Angeles Dodgers, julio Rodriguez of the Seattle Mariners, juan Soto, also of the New York Yankees, corey Sager of the Texas Rangers. So those are your key figures to look out for for the MVP race. Thus far, the Houston Astros pitchers, not pitchers. Pitcher.

Speaker 1:

Jose, your quiddity, if I pronounce that correctly, your last name, please don't butcher me may need a second Tommy John surgery due to elbow injury. Yeah, man, for some baseball players, tommy John's is nothing to play with. It can definitely be a career ending surgery, in a sense of like you're just never the same when you come back. Now there have been some players who've had it and been fine, but then there's others that just don't recover. They're not quite the same as they were before. And then the MLB is investigating Padres infielder. Uh, I'm probably gonna butcher his name too, so just bear with me.

Speaker 1:

Uh, to cupita marcino, for allegedly betting on baseball, he could face a lifetime ban and found guilty. So an update on that. Yeah, they found him. Oh, that boy guilty. Uh, he didn't receive the ban. Uh he's, he's out of the year. Uh, for real, like that dude, as soon as that broke, like early in the week by Wednesday, I kid you not they made their decision already and dude is completely gone, like his whole career.

Speaker 1:

You know what? I don't know what's going on with some of these athletes who are essentially betting on games, but ever since betting has become illegal, this is the second case known to me in a professional sport where someone's been caught doing it in their band. John Tate Porter of the NBA just got caught and he's received a lifetime ban where he was betting on games and causing his team to lose as well, because he was betting that they would lose. And it was like piddly stuff, like bro was only winning, like his winnings were like 15 to $2,000. And it's like you are an NBA player who has a contract and you're probably making like 10 million for your contract or 5 million. So it was like I don't get it, man, I really don't get it.

Speaker 1:

Uh, nba, former NBA player, carmelo Anthony, is building ownership experience. He's already part owner of a team in Australia's National Basketball League and has expressed interest in becoming an NBA governor. If I mean, if everybody had their own choice, it would probably be like the Knicks for Carmelo, because it's you know, near and dear to his heart, or the Nuggets you know his original team, but it's all in what's open at that time for ownership. So we'll keep an eye on that and see what team eventually down the road he becomes an NBA owner. I mean, with the NBA expanding too is what they're talking about. There's probably a good chance he could be an owner of an expansion team, because I know they're talking about Vegas. But what would have to happen is, if he wanted to do it, he would have to get some other investors. I know LeBron has expressed he wanted to be an NBA owner and they keep saying Las Vegas, so that would be the perfect person to partner up with. So it could essentially be a NBA team owned by former NBA players.

Speaker 1:

Now, speaking of LeBron, in a sense the Los Angeles Lakers because that's the team he's on have been actively searching for a new head coach. According to recent reports, the Los Angeles Lakers have considered offering a massive contract to UConn coach Dan Hurley offering a massive contract to UConn coach Dan Hurley. Other names mentioned in the search include ESPN analyst JJ Redick, as well as former Charlotte Hornets coach James Borgino, but not Borgino Borrigo Borrigo, thank you had to sound that one out. But Dan Hurley is set to make his announcement here. He's still weighing his pros and cons. And I mean at this point, why not? Because I mean you're leaving UConn and you just won your second national title in college, so you have a chance, with the team constructed, to go for three feet. So do you really want to break that up? And I know you know the college scene will throw as much money as they can, but the Lakers have offered him a max as well, like almost a player contract. So either you're doing it for the money to be set, should it not work out for you, or you're just doing it for the love of the game and you go back to UConn. So I can understand, decisions are tough.

Speaker 1:

Speaking of the NBA, to close it out here with the nba, we're going to talk about the finals. So the boston celtics have made a strong start in the nba's finals, defeating the dallas mavericks with a score of 107 to 89 in game one. The celtics performance was notable for their 27 point advantage from three pointers and significant contributions from uh the uh, as they call him, the unicorn, christoph Porzingis. Now, game two of the NBA Finals. The Boston Celtics secured a 105-98 victory against the Dallas Mavericks, drew Holiday scoring 26 points for the Celtics and Luka Dantic contributing with 32 points for the Mavericks and Luka Doncic contributing with 32 points for the Mavericks. The Boston Celtics now leads the series with a 2-0 lead, inching closer to their 18th NBA championship. For the franchise not the team as it's present, with Jason Tatum and Jalen Brown this would be their first championship with that team constructed, but the franchise overall, as long as it's been established, would be their 18th. So they're almost like neck and neck again with NBA titles with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Speaker 1:

Now, as far as the NFL, the NFL has addressed concerns regarding the safety for the upcoming game between the Philadelphia Eagles and Green Bay Packers in Sao Paulo, brazil, regarding the Eagles and Packers being banned from wearing green in Brazil due to gang activity. Man, if it's all like that, just cancel the game, bro, just straight up. Ain't no need to be out there like that if they already making death threats telling y'all don't come out here wearing this or that. In my city. You would think, though it's the NFL they're coming to play in your country that's going to generate some wealth. You would kind of put that to the side and say, hey, you know, this is money. Money's to be made, but apparently not. Money's to be made, but apparently not Now.

Speaker 1:

Chiefs all-pro cornerback dilemma. With the trade of LeJarrius Sneed to the Tennessee Titans, there's speculation that Trent McDuffie could assume a larger role on the Chiefs defense. Hey, that's how it usually is, man, when you let go of one asset for another um, it's the next man up. I just hope for trent's sake he's ready for the bright lights, because they just won a championship and they're trying not to miss a beat. So every man has to be ready. Next man up. So yeah, and then on to an OG, andre Rison. Former Falcons star.

Speaker 1:

Andre believes he's the greatest receiver in NFL history. Andre had an impressive career in the NFL 186 games he received 743 receptions for a total of 10,205 receiving yards and scored 84 touchdowns. Notably, rison led the league in receptions during his first four years and first five seasons uh out of yeah, so four out of five and was able to receive his fifth um in the fifth receiver in NFL history, to score 60 touchdowns in his first six seasons. I mean, there's nothing wrong with someone feeling that they're the best. You should have confidence, you should have pride in yourself, so there's nothing wrong with that. But I just feel like, as far as wide receivers go and I'm biased, I still feel like there's a few out there that, because this is going based off, he's going based off numbers, what he did.

Speaker 1:

Statistics, and I mean numbers, aren't good. But you know, as they say, or as Jay Z said so poetically, men lie, women lie, but numbers don't. But Let me come back, jay. Numbers can be misleading. You know you can have all these great stats and you know it seems great on paper and you'd be like dang. You know he's contributing well, but does that convert over to wins? It's one thing that they have to look at. Did it contribute to any wins? Or was it just hey, you know it was a losing game, but he had all these massive numbers here. Did it contribute to you guys getting to the playoffs? It was a losing game, but he had all these massive numbers here. Did it contribute to you guys getting to the playoffs? Did you win any playoff games? So that's what I mean by numbers can be misleading. But you know, again I'm going to go back to what I was saying, in the sense of I'm biased because Randy Moss, I've seen that dude play, so you know you can't tell me nothing about that.

Speaker 1:

Megatron Calvin Johnson, former Detroit Lion wide receiver I could throw my man in there because I used to be a former Dallas Cowboy Michael Urban Shoot. We could even throw Deion Sanders in. You know Deion was a jack of all trades and you know when he did want to line up on that line on that side and catch the ball as a wide receiver, he did his thing. So there's a laundry list of other players out there. If any of y'all can think of anything, please hit me up on X slash Twitter and let me know who your favorite is outside of Andre Rison.

Speaker 1:

Now on to the NHL. The Stanley Cup final of the 2024 season is set, with the Edmonton Oilers facing off against the Florida Panthers. Now Connor McDavid led the Oilers to a victory in Game 6 against the Stars, securing their spot in the final, moving on to the Stanley Cup. And then the Florida Panthers reached the Stanley Cup final by defeating the New York Rangers. Now the Panthers understood that the job's not finished and they're ready for the challenge. So Game 1 just took place and the Florida Panthers secured a 3-0 win against the Edmonton Oilers. And Sergei Bobrovsky of the Panthers, a goaltender, made an impressive 32 saves, earning the first shutout in game one of the Stanley Cup Finals in 13 years. So I mean 32 saves. You know you getting shut out like that. You know Florida's you know coming in to win man, they ain't playing no games, so we'll see if the Oilers can recover after this. But you know that's an impressive win to start to set the tone for game one for the Stanley Cup finals between the Florida Panthers and Edmonton Oilers.

Now on to television we're going to talk a little bit about here on the night one of the 51st annual Daytime Enemy Awards. So for Best Daytime Drama Series, winner is General Hospital Daytime Series Talk Show. We have Kelly Clarkson Entertainment News Series. We have Entertainment Tonight. Surprising, because there's a lot of entertainment shows out there, but Entertainment Tonight I mean I guess it's killing. I've watched it so I can't knock it. So I can't front that they're not good Lead performance in a daytime drama series. We have winner as Thurston Kay, as Ridge Forrester in Bold and the Beautiful and in lead performance in the daytime drama series.

Speaker 1:

Actress. We have Michelle Stafford as Phyllis Summers in Young and Restless. Actress we have Michelle Stafford as Phyllis Summers in Young and the Restless. Yeah, I'm familiar with Phyllis, yeah, who? Yeah, phyllis ain't nothing to play with. Now, phyllis, I don't believe she was on the show way, way, way, way, way back in the day, but when I was one of those latchkey summer kids being babysit by my great grandmother, she would always watch Young and the Restless. So I'm familiar with all the characters there. Phyllis, I believe when I started kind of seeing Young and the Restless again it wouldn't have been until about 2005, 2006, somewhere in there, when I was kind of introduced to her character. But Phyllis wasn't one to joke with. But Michelle Stafford, yeah, she does a great job portraying that character.

Speaker 1:

Now, newly released TV shows here that you can watch out. Here is a presumed innocent based on the 1987, uh, 1987 novel of the same name, which was also previously adapted into a 1990 movie starring Harrison Ford. Pursued Innocent is a crime drama mystery series that is a courtroom thriller and revolves around his horrific murder and disrupts the Chicago prosecuting attorney's office when one of its own is suspected of a crime. The series explores dreams of obsession, sex politics and the power of limits of love as the accused fights to maintain his family and marriage. Now television shows with great replay value.

Speaker 1:

We have the Vince Staples show on Netflix just been renewed for a season two. Usually it has about. I don't know the first season had like, um, usually it has about. I know the first season had like maybe I think it was six or eight episodes, but um, it's reminds me, that's the best way to put it. I'm not going to say similar or it's like. It just reminds me of, uh, atlanta on FX, where you have Brian Tyree, henry umith Stanfield and Donald Glover, where it was Afro Surrealism.

Speaker 1:

Well, this one kind of takes from all of those shows like that, which all kind of goes back to Twin Peaks as well. So this show kind of almost picks up where Atlanta left off, but on the West Coast and a little bit different. So the show follows the adventures of Vince Staples, whose life as a rapper is anything but normal. In the series, vince is arrested for speeding but somehow is booked for assault. While in jail he encounters various characters, including fans in the form of cops, fellow inmates named Polk, who has a grudge with him. Vince also faces challenges outside the jail, such as trying to start a serial brand and dealing with the bank robbery, where he ends up helping the robbers. Yeah, that was crazy. I think one of the other episodes that in the series I think was white Mike was this guy who basically had a grudge with Vince and basically was trying to essentially off Vince because Vince had teased him and I think it was either middle school or high school and the guy never forgot about it, but his nickname was just white Mike, uh, but he actually was a black guy, uh, but they just called him white Mike because, um, they said that he acted white. So he got teased and picked on. But yeah, that episode in itself was crazy, just literally seeing him traverse all from different parts of Southern Cal to escape this guy from basically offing him.

Speaker 1:

The Eric Andre Show. The show is a parody of late night talk shows and hosted by the comedian Eric Andre. It features a mix of actual celebrity guests and fake celebrity guests, deranged man on the street segments and all around chaos that ultimately ends up the destruction of the set. Each episode typically opens with standard talk show set up but quickly descends into surreal humor and pranks. Andre invites guests who are often unfamiliar with his work, leading to unexpected and bizarre interactions. The show has been praised for its unique take on late night humor format and its ability to blend comedy and social commentary.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, it's definitely a social experiment type show and you'll have real celebrities come on and they'll think they're being on there to speak on what's going on with them or any current projects. But there's little hijinks in the show where Eric will act out or interrupt them by asking them some off wall questions or the set props will fall or break, scaring them. So uh that. And then the other social experiments, uh, where he just basically goes on the street and just does random weird things. Uh, one in particular I remember was him doing a social experiment where he was a um window cleaner, so him and his partner had fell off of the scaffolding cleaning a window, so somehow he managed to get back up. Now this is all fake, but you can see where they panned over to his partner where he had a AC uh unit fall on his head, so he's he was done. He had an AC unit fall on his head, so he was done. So they basically showing like the aftermath of this accident and the experiment in itself of everyone seeing you know what had happened and reacting to it and Eric Andre being the lone survivor trying to assist him and trying to tell him to sit down. Well, eric Andre was, you know, still trying to get back up there to work. He's like one dude was like hey, yeah, dude, you don't need to worry about trying to work right now, you need to get to a hospital. But it was just funny seeing the interaction of the unknowing people just coming across this social experiment and freaking out. It was crazy. It was, it was really, really crazy. So this show was known for just off the wall antics and crazy stuff.

Speaker 1:

And then, lastly, since we're on this theme of shows, the OG here to Eric Andre would be Tom Green. The Tom Green Show known for its sketch comedy and surreal humor in variety show format. The show featured Tom Green performing bizarre or shocking acts in public, such as sucking on a cow's udder and throwing plastic baby dolls at passing cars. It's also included a segment where Green would pull pranks on ordinary folks, film them and then replay the footage with narration. The show was controversial for its shock comedy and pranks, especially those targeting Green's parents.

Speaker 1:

Yes, let me talk about that man, because this dude Green's parents. Yes, let me talk about that man, cause this dude I can't Okay. So the one in particular, I can't remember if it was his, it was his parents or his co-host Glenn that he built a statue called a statue called bleep where is my dinner statue. And he had built it and put it in front of a home and I can't remember now because it just popped in my mind. I want to say it was, I want to say it was his parents, I want to say it was his parents. On that. He built that. So he was basically like mom, dad, I built you a statue. Here it is. And then they're looking at it like what is this? And it's? It's like this dude with a wife beater on and his boxers and a statue with a beer in one hand and a hand raised, basically talking about where's my dinner. And his parents definitely did not take the light in that statue. And I remember he had a younger brother come out and destroy the statue and push tom off the lawn, um, and was saying stop filming. You're, you're, you're, uh, you're a disgrace to the family and all this other stuff. But tom's antics with his parents were crazy. Man it, it and Green is still alive now, but he's low key. It just surprised me His family never disowned him after that, like if they hadn't already. But I mean like literally like yeah, we're done with you, because there are so many times he had did these stuff. So this family, I'm like how is he sneaking in or how is he able to get in here again and pull a prank on his family, meaning his dad, his mom or his brother, like I don't get it. But yeah, he, that tom green show, when it ran for that two seasons from like the mid 90s uh, mainly during the summers that that dude was crazy. He single-handedly kept MTV popular for a while.

Speaker 1:

And then, to close it out, here we've got video games. Here are some of the highlights of recent news for video games. So we've got Dragon Ball Sparking Zero Pre-orders are coming with bonus playable fighters Grindstone the developers of the next game says it is a one-on-one competition puzzle game. Sonic X Shadow Generation pre-orders are live, including Dr Robotnik's journal Dark and Darker is now available for free on Steam. The Summer Game Fest revealed new maps, gadgets, weapons and more for the final season. And then, if you're familiar with Borderlands, they're making it to a game. They just released a clip here where Lilith's team is in action, so you get to kind of see how the live action version of Borderlands is going to look like for you. The live action version of borderlands is going to look like for you if you're interested in seeing the uh the movie, after seeing that little uh one on a 90 to two minute, 90 second to two minute clip.
