Speaker 1:

This is the King's Perspective, where I talk all things film, music, sports, television, video games that's happening within the week or past weeks. Just kind of put you up on game, get you familiar with certain things to look forward to in the upcoming weeks or future. Yeah, upcoming weeks or week. Um, so nothing really major, nothing, nothing heavy, just really easy listening for you at this point, so you can basically just turn it on in the background. While you're there, you're doing laundry, cleaning the house, whatever. Let my soothing radio R&B voice take you away. I'm kidding, I am kidding. I am kidding, but let's for real. Let's get the show started here with film. So these are some of the popular films right now that you can check out at the moment, one being Inside Out 2, a sequel to the beloved animated film. Inside Out Two continues to explore the emotions of Riley's head with a touch of teenage angst. So if you are a fan of the original, then you'll love the sequel. So check that one out Now. Bad Boys Ride or Die just came out a few weeks. So this stars Martin Lawrence, will Smith as they return as the iconic bad boys, delving with a mix of action and comedy, and the franchise still has pretty much left in the tank, from what I can see here. So yeah, I'm still not crazy about it and I think on the last episode I called it just Bad Boys 4, which it technically is, but it's Bad Boys Ride or Die.

Speaker 1:

So to me my little nitpick on this film, just the franchise films and the titles in general, would be Bad Boys 3, I think it was called bad boys for life, which I think bad boys for, which is called bad boys ride or die, should have been bad boys for life, with the number four in there somewhere symbolizing number four. Now, bad boys ride or die should have been number three because in that film you have Marcus Burnett and Mike Lowry in there, as is Martin Lawrence and Will Smith respectively. But in that film there Will Smith's character, mike Lowry, has an illegitimate son that he didn't know about, who's going on a killing spree in Florida, miami area, and I believe they also takes out their lieutenant yeah, that they answer to. And in there you find another part three. We're talking about that. Mike Lowry, will Smith's character, has to make the tough decision on what he needs to do to bring in the criminal who is his son, but also protect him at the same time. So he ends up going rogue, essentially against his own, within the Miami PD. So you see the internal struggle of trying to keep his son safe but also trying to bring him in safely as well. So with that film that should have been Bad Boys Ride or Die, because that truly was a ride or die situation. And then Bad Boys for Life should have been Bad Boys for Life is what we're calling it now, instead of Bad Boys Ride or Die for the fourth film.

Speaker 1:

But from what I've heard on this film, it was great, um, so I've got to get the opportunity to check it out at some point. Then the watchers, uh, an eerie mood uh pervades this film about an artist stranded in the untouched forest in Western Ireland. Um, so this film, um, I stand corrected by my homeboy, green Lantern Gaming that this film. When I talked about it about a couple episodes ago, I said M Night Shyamalan. I stand corrected. It was not M Night Shyamalan. I stand corrected. It was not M Night Shyamalan, it was actually Aishana Night Shyamalan, who is the daughter of M Night Shyamalan. But, green, you can't convince me that M Night Shyamalan did not have a hand at some point in this film, doing something to this film, film, because when I look at it, uh, it says that um, um, let's see here Now the daughter um wrote and directed and her uh directorial debut.

Speaker 1:

But it was produced by M night Shyamalan. So generally, when you have somebody produce a film, they're going to give you their own takes on certain things, maybe a rewrite here and there, or hey, I would do this maybe, or I would do that. And I don't know what percentage M Night had on this film, but let's just say this this film had a 5.8 out of 10 on IMDb and a 29% on Rotten Tomatoes. So for a film that had promise, if M Night did have any type of influence on the film After that I already kind of got off the ground and was doing decent. But his influence changed up everything and I can kind of see why this film went from potential to not potential. But I'll have to see the film myself and see what it was all about, because the trailers, uh, definitely I wouldn't say misleading, but it gave a good promise that it was going to do great. Um, but from what I can see now from people watching it or not, saying based off the trailer, it's not great. So we'll see uh, new release films.

Speaker 1:

We have horizon and American saga is an epic western film series. The plot spans the four years of the civil war from 1861 to 1865, and explores the american west through the lens of families, friends, foes. The film delves into what it truly means to be in the United States during the tumultuous period. Now this is written, produced and backed by Kevin Costner, who put up his will, put up half his life savings on this film, and I believe it's a three parter. So you've got this first one here being released this week and then a few months later you've got the part two, this first one here being released this week, and then a few months later you've got the part two and then, I believe at the top of the year or maybe middle of next year, the third and final part will be released. So it's going to be interesting because I mean, he went through a lot to even get this made Personal relationships, people fighting against him, not really trying to help him, back at, you know, studio. So he had to do it himself, like I said, half of his life savings into this. So that's crazy, but I would say, if it does well, then it's a payoff for that gamble that he did and then maybe that type of investment within yourself pays off to where? Maybe try something else at that point. But yeah, if you can't get the support and help that you need from others, got to do it yourself.

Speaker 1:

Now on to another franchise that's, you know, taking off as we speak the Quiet Place. So this is the third installment here, so I'm going to give you my breakdown on that. So, in this day, one up-and-coming American apocalyptic horror film. It serves as a spinoff, prequel and the third installment in the Quiet Place. The film series premise the movie takes place before the events of the first film. In New York City, a woman named Sam must survive an invasion by bloodthirsty alien creatures with ultrasonic sound hearing. So this basically just gives you the synopsis of. Well, this film gives you a glimpse into how it all started, versus the other two films where you're just kind of thrown in trying to figure out like who are these people, what's going on and where do these aliens come from, or what's going on here. Well, at least in this first film I was going to explain all that. And the lead character, who is female, is played by Lupita Nyong'o. You should be familiar with her from 12 Years a Slave and the Black Panther franchise. So she'll be the lead character in this film, great, great actor.

Speaker 1:

And then we have another film for this week here called Daddy-O, an American drama film. It stars Dakota Johnson and Sean Penn. The film revolves around a young woman who takes a cab from JFK International Airport to her Manhattan apartment. During the ride she's engaged in unexpectedly honest conversations with a cab driver, clark, covering honest conversation between two relative strangers talking about various topics, being vulnerable to talk about those topics. So I think, with that being said, this is my thought process that you're going to be able to see the acting range between both actors and the chemistry, because it's basically set in a phone booth. You know acting out in a phone booth but in a cab. So you've got that dynamic of seeing the range and emotion of just basically sitting still and acting and being reactive for the person who's sitting down but driving. So it's going to be very interesting to see that film. I think this will probably be like a sleeper film Sometimes when you have those Academy Awards, you'll always see those films. I'm like this film came out of nowhere and it's killing it right now. It's doing this, it's doing that. Everybody loves it. This film definitely has potential based off the trailer, from what I've seen, daddy-o was the film. Check it out when you get an opportunity.

Speaker 1:

Films with great replay value. We have Edward Scissorhands. The story revolves around an unfinished artificial humanoid named Edward. The inventor dies before completing Edward's hands, leaving him with metal scissors instead. Edward lives a solitary life until a kind lady named Peg discovers him and invites him into her home. Initially welcomed by the community, edward's life takes a turn for the worse, despite his ability to trim hedges and cut hair. He longs for acceptance and love. His impromptu family, including Peg and her daughter Kim, try to understand him, but challenges arise.

Speaker 1:

So at this time this was the early 90s this was, I know, produced, maybe written as well, by Tim Burton, but it was so uniquely unique and weird it became a cult favorite. And at the center of anything weird during the 90s was your guy Johnny Depp, and he played perfect in this film. I've only seen the film maybe two, three times, and I was young, so I didn't really quite understand some of the nuances, the quirks, things of that nature, but I'd be willing to sit down and watch it again as an adult, no interruptions, just straight through and see how the film holds up now, straight through and see how the film holds up now. Another franchise that Tim Burton had a hand on was Beetlejuice and that's being revamped and revived for part two. So it'd be interesting to see this one and see if there's room or wiggle room actually for a part two of Edward Scissorhands. Would Johnny Depp be willing to come back and play that role? Maybe, I don't know, we'll have to see, but I know, with all the legal drama behind him now at this point, it'd be interesting to see an updated or modern version of Edward Scissorhands in today's society at this point.

Speaker 1:

Now, stand by Me is another film of replay value. The story is set in a fictional town of Castle Rock, oregon. During Labor Day weekend in 1959, for boys Gordy, chris, teddy and Vern embark on a journey to find a dead body of a missing boy named Ray Brower. Their adventure becomes a pivotal moment in their lives and the film explores themes of friendship, loss and growing up. So again, I'm a sucker for coming-of-age films, and this film does exactly that. You have some boys that are preteen or teens going on a venture within their state to find this body and pay respect to Ray Brower, because they heard about this rumor and they wanted to see if it was true, with other kids within the area that are almost protectors of this dead body, because I believe it comes out that they were the ones responsible for killing this Ray Brower. But one of the interesting moments of the film is when all four boys go swimming in this pond or lake and don't realize that it's infested with leeches. So they all come out and they're shaking their bodies off of leeches and trying to pull them off one another I believe it was Gordy is the one that takes the leech bite the worst because he has one in his southern region and didn't realize it and he goes to basically pull it off and comes up with a handful of blood as well and passes out and faints. But it's one of the parts of the movies that sticks out Because of that issue. But overall the film was definitely great.

Speaker 1:

Another film here called Training Day. I'm sure we're all familiar with Training Day with Ethan Hawke, dental Washington, the film here I'm going to get into the synopsis. Officer Jake Hoyt, an idealistic rookie assigned to work with Detective Alonzo Harris, a highly decorated narcotics officer, set in the morally ambiguous world of undercover police investigation. The film unfolds over a single day in Los Angeles. Alonzo tests Jake's resolve, pushing him to prove himself to his fiercely charismatic superior. So yeah, one problem that I have with this film is that all this literally took place in one day, which is crazy, because it does show you the timeline as a movie is coming on. It does have some timestamps because you see Jake Hoyt get up and kiss his wife and baby goodbye as he gets ready to go meet Alonzo at the diner.

Speaker 1:

But it's true to every word of this film that Alonzo pushes Jake in every which way to see if he can break his moral resolve, to see if he can bend him to come on the dark side resolve, to see if he can bend him to come on the dark side of basically. But it doesn't matter what Alonzo does to him, whether he has some smoking, weed laced with PCP or drinking on the job or not writing tickets, but giving warnings when it really should have been a ticket, putting him through these tests to kind of see what type of guy is he going to be. Is he going to be a good cop or bad cop? If he's going to be a good cop, that means he's a snitch. It means he can't be trusted on our team and we got to get rid of him. And as time goes on, denzel's character notices that and realizes that he's got to get rid of this guy. But while he's trying to get rid of this guy he's got his own demons that he's got to deal with. Come to find out. Oh, alonzo, the week before bringing Jake onto his narcotics team, got into it in Las Vegas with a well-known made guy who happened to be Russian and kills him. Well, now there's a bounty on his head. If he doesn't come up with a certain money to kind of pay for what he did in Vegas, then these Russians are going to come and see him and when they come and see him it's not going to be a pleasant thing. So you see the dynamic of the wheels turning and Denzel Washington's character of trying to make it through the day. I've got to find some money as well to pay off my debt, but I also have got to try to see if this guy's trustworthy as well.

Speaker 1:

So this is the film here, essentially the guy Denzel, a um Academy award, because to me all the films leading up to this point kind of straight collar by the book good guys, good guy films this film. Here you get to see him act uncharacteristic, act out of the box and be a true savage villain, and majority of the academy award found this to be rewarding. So this is what granted him his first academy award, and I mean a lot of people could have thought of other films that he could have gotten it for, but I say if this is the one that was needed to get, denzel was the Academy Award, then so be it. I mean because I didn't have a problem with the film. I didn't have a problem with his acting. I thought it was superb. I thought it was great to see him in that type of role, acting in that kind of manner. That way was different at the time and it was a better words, it was cool. So I mean, hey, why not be rewarded for something that everybody liked? Essentially, everybody likes villains, everybody likes bad guys as much as they do like heroes. So kudos to Denzel for winning his award, because it was much needed.

Speaker 1:

Now on to music. We've got Johnny Cash born in. Now let me back up a little bit because I forgot. So we've got musicians, famous musicians from Arkansas. So we're doing our theme here for Arkansas artists, and it's only going to be three. So we've got Johnny Cash, born in Kingsland, arkansas, as legendary singer, musician and songwriter, known as the man in black, recorded countless records, appeared in films and won 18 Grammys yes, 18 Grammys, grammys, yes, 18 Grammys and sold over 90 million records. Then we have Al Green or Albert Lenornis Green I hope I'm pronouncing his middle name correctly Born in Forest City, arkansas, in 1946. As a soulful singer, with his hit song let's stay together, remains a classic green, has won 11 grammys and is considered one of the greatest singers of all time. I can't really argue with that. I I don't know too many people who don't try to sing. Let's stay together and love and happiness, um are staples in the black community. So with with that being said, it does not surprise me.

Speaker 1:

Now we have another artist here by the name of Sister Rosetta Thorpe, or Tharp, one of the most influential guitarists of the 20th century, paved the way for rock guitarists to come, for rock guitarists to come. She was born Rosetta Nubian in Cotton Plant, arkansas, in 1950. Her mother played the mandolin in church and Tharp adapted the mandolin techniques in her playing, leading to her playing individual notes rather than playing chords. She was noted. She was noted. She was a noted guitarist by the age of six. Tharp posted a storied career and has been cited as a musical influence to artists diverse as Johnny Cash, who we talked about here earlier. So that means that they've crossed paths here in Arkansas at some point Karen Carpenter and Aretha Franklin.

Speaker 1:

Now here are some of the most notable music releases. Albums We've got Gracie Abrams the Secret of Us, an album that showcases Gracie Abrams' introspective songwriting and emotive vocals. Kalani Crash, a release from the talented R&B artist Kalani, blending soulful melodies and contemporary production. Camila Cabello XOXO. Camila Cabello's latest work, promising a mix of pop and heartfelt lyrics. Imagine Dragons Loom, the band's exploration into new sounds and themes and their alternative rock music. And then, lastly, rounded it out, we have Megan Thee Stallion. Megan expect fierce rap verses, empowering messages from last Hot Girl production release, now Billboard's top 10 to look out for. We have I had Some Help by Post Malone, please, please, please.

Speaker 1:

By Sabrina Carpenter Expresso by Sabrina Carpenter, a bar song, tipsy, that was released roughly 20 years ago. So who would have thought Jaquan would be coming back and making an effect 20 years later with this song tipsy? Um, now Shabuzy. If I have it correct, um is an country singer, so to incorporate a hip hop song into country, that's a 20-year-old song paying homage and respect to Jaquan. Let's see, we've got Million Dollar Baby by Tommy Richmond. Not Like Us by Kendrick Lamar. Now I'm going to go on a tangent here, but just stick with me, stay with me. Not Like Us was a diss record towards the one and only Drake, and this song was made sometime in April. It's still on the charts. It's just killing it, right.

Speaker 1:

Well, because of that and I don't even think this was planned, but because of the whole this between the two, it eventually span a pop up event called Ken and Friends that just premiered on Juneteenth, called Ken and Friends. That just premiered on Juneteenth and it had a laundry list of LA artists past, present and future. You had two DJs basically helping navigate, narrate and host the show. The first set was done by DJ Head and he had some of the new West Coast artists in the LAC. Then DJ Mustard, who kind of did more of the artists that were already established on the LA scene, like your Roddy Rich, your YG Ty Dolla Sign.

Speaker 1:

Who am I missing? Even you would have had Ben Staples out there had he not been on tour, but you were having a mixture of past present. Past present artists. Uh, even Jay Worthy, uh, was out there. Um, if you're familiar with Jay Worthy from the London drugs group and his own, uh um, solo act, um, you had everybody out there. You had even Dr Dre make an appearance. Um, dr Dre make an appearance and do the next episode with Kendrick Lamar. So it was very interesting to see that.

Speaker 1:

And then Kendrick Lamar did his own songs. He performed Well, they didn't perform all together as Black Hippie because they've had a couple songs, but he had the Black Hippie group from TDE or Top Dog Entertainment come out there. So that was J-Rock, schoolboy Q and Ab-Soul. J-rock did a few songs, schoolboy Q did a few songs. I would say I was surprised that Ab-Soul didn't perform. There probably was a reason why he didn't perform. I would have liked to see him perform.

Speaker 1:

Overall, the performance was great. I mean, you had everybody on stage from the LA hip hop scene. Heck, you even had Tommy the Clown out there. And Tommy the Clown, if you remember, from early 2000s, maybe 2003, 2004, who was showcasing crumping from the movie Rise done, and Tommy the Clown took the inner city youth to figure out other ways to be creative or be successful and be creative than being on the corner, being on the streets or getting ingratiated in the gang life. He gave them another avenue and this was through um, um, being on the scene with Tommy the clown and going over different areas and performing at parties or uh, arenas. So, yeah, it was definitely interesting to see Tommy the clown come out. That was like a throwback. I was like yo, um, if I remember, yeah, and if I remember correctly, this week he's performing battle, battle zone or battleground at Centennial high school and that's in LA. So, um, yeah, um, anybody that's listening to this from LA and then maybe see the kid and friends pop up, just know, tommy the Clown is going to be at Centennial this week performing Battle Zone or Battle World. I can't remember it exactly, but usually when he performs or whenever he throws his production performances on, they're usually entertaining Too Sweet by Josie Ayer Houdini, by Eminem, birds of a Feather by Billie Eilish and then Lose Control by Teddy Swims. So that closes out music there for this week. So that's what you can anticipate this week for music.

Speaker 1:

Now on the sports MLB, the legendary Willie Mays, considered one of the greatest baseball players in history, passed away at the age of 93. He was a 24-time MLB All-Star, winning MVPs, gold Gloves and World Series during his illustrious career. And, to be noted, he is the grandfather to Barry Mons, or godfather I said grandfather, godfather to Barry Mons. The Los Angeles Dodgers acquire Kevin Biggio from the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for a double-A reliever, braden Fisher. Biggio is the son of Hall of Famer Craig Biggio, who joins the Dodgers roster. The Baltimore Orioles have hit more home runs than any other team this season, setting a franchise record of 21 consecutive games with a home run. Yeesh, okay, not too bad, not too bad.

Speaker 1:

And then, two days after making his MLB debut, and two days after making his MLB debut, toronto Blue Jays top prospect, orlevis Martinez, was suspended for 80 games during his 80 games due to PED violations. Yeah, mlb is trying to play a clean game. They're trying to get away from the late 90s of juicing. Bro, you should have known that they're not playing that. And for you to come in here trying to juice again and relive the late 90s of Mark McGuire, sammy Sosa, barry Bonds and whoever else was juicing, they not having that, bro, you should have known, you should have checked with somebody, ask them. You know what the policy is if you got caught juicing. But yeah, I mean it's unheard of, because during that 90s run Mark McGuire and Sammy Sosa were literally almost like hitting home runs every game against their opponent.

Speaker 1:

And then right behind him was Barry Bonds. He wasn't getting quite the acclaim because which is weird, because I mean I know Mark McGuire and Sammy Sosa were hitting home runs but you would think, because you got Barry Bonds right behind him doing the same thing, he would be in the picture, but it was just only these two that they wanted to talk about. But eventually it came out that the reason why that they were hitting so many home runs is because it was juicing. They tried to deny it at first, but after that it was just like nah, they stripped them of their records of hitting so many home runs, barred some of those records, barred them from their MLB clubs and then, as I say, all time heals wounds. But Sammy Sosa, to my knowledge he escaped and is over there in the Dominican Republic and ain't really trying to come back to his alma mater, Chicago Cubs. Now Mark McGuire, after some time was able to kind of come back after he apologized and help some of the youth coming up in the MLB and showing them how to properly hit and other things of that nature. So, you know, at this point in time no one is running down on Mark McGuire's talking about yeah, you know, the juicer. The juicer like they look at him now like in a new lens. Him now like in a new lens as it's a new stint in his career being a trainer or developmental coach for the upcoming players.

Speaker 1:

As far as the NBA goes, the Taiwan Mustangs sign ex -Lakers. We have Dwight Howard, demarcus Cousins, kwon Cook. We'll play together on the Taiwan Mustangs in Asia this July for their tournament. Yeah, dwight Howard, he's been trying to recruit NBA players for the longest. For the longest, some of the players that are still in the league but might be on like trying to figure out like they might have like a window of opportunity in the sense of like they might be free agents. So they're trying to figure out what team they're going to go to or they might be sitting out. A year. Dwight has been on his Instagram, social media, just like going crazy, trying to recruit players, like hey, I see you're no longer playing, come on to Taiwan, or come on over here to Asia and play yada, yada, yada and it's like, bro, I don't know why you want to play over there, man, it's just there's no place like home.

Speaker 1:

And most notably, it would have been Jabari Parker. For me, that I saw, just maybe about a month ago now at this point, where he was overseas playing basketball and his team lost in a in a game that was crucial for a championship. So the reporter was sitting down with him trying to talk and ask him some questions and he kind of just broke down and ask him some questions and he kind of just broke down. I think it could have been the wave of emotions of one, losing that game where he could have won a championship. Two, being overseas, and I think it was like Italy, where he's playing Italy sports, Italy team. There we go and then just realizing how far he's come.

Speaker 1:

Because at this point, believe it or not, for Jabari Parker, he's only been in the league for the NBA no more than 10 years At this point, from the time that he got drafted till now it's been 10 years Came out of Duke, got drafted by the Milwaukee Bucks, was to play alongside of Giannis Antetokounmpo to kind of be this one-two dynamic, and it just didn't work out due to injuries and then he was shipped from this team to that team and then, once you're dealing with injuries and you start getting shipped from one team to the next, it's not a good sign because it's like you're on your last leg out at that point in the league where you have to play overseas. So it's one of those things where it's like, well, if ball is life, you know you can drop a dude off in the middle of the jungle and put up two basketball goals and you give him a basketball and he gonna hoop. But there's just still something about playing at home versus overseas. You know the notoriety, the respect, the acclaim. If you're NBA champion, you know it's different than overseas. I've never been over there so I can't really tell how it's like over there for those players. I can't really tell how it's like over there for those players. But I know here, living in the US, you're putting up Wilt Chamberlain numbers. If you're winning as many championships as Bill Russell, michael Jordan, you know you're going to get love. People are going to love you. They're going to talk about you immortally even after you're gone. But it's not the same love when you're overseas versus. You know states. So I think it's just a lot of that going on. And you know, technically for Jabari, parker relatively still has a young he's still relatively young for his NBA career. This is kind of his prime years at this point. So hopefully for Jabari man he can kind of get it together. So, with that being said, you know, overseas just may not be for everybody. So Dwight stopped trying to recruit people but he didn't try to recruit Jabari. But still, I'm just saying not everybody want to play overseas and not everybody might not want to play in Asia. Brah.

Speaker 1:

Now for a recap of the NBA finals. Um, that was just played. Not too long ago, in game five of the 2024 NBA finals, the Boston Celtics secured their 18th NBA championship for the franchise Not for the, not for the current players, but for the franchise, uh by defeating the Dallas Mavericks with a score of 106-81,. Led by Jason Tatum with 31 points, 11 assists and 8 rebounds, and Jalen Brown 21 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. The Celtics dominated the game. Luka Dantic scored 28 points for the Mavericks, but their efforts fell short. It's an historic victory for the Mavericks, but their efforts fell short. It's an historic victory for the Boston Celtics, which now hold more titles than any NBA team. So, yeah, right now, the way it looks or not, the way it looks, the way it is is, boston has 18, then right behind them with 17, is the Los Angeles Lakers franchise, and then I think after that it would probably be the San Antonio Spurs with seven, chicago Bulls with six and then Golden State Warriors with four. No, no, no, they have more than four. I think it's like six as well, because there's a few that they won. So, yeah, so those are your franchise with the most NBA championships. But again, to make sure I'm clear, jason Tatum and Jalen Brown do not have 18 as a unit, collectively together. They had just won their first together, but the franchise, the Celtics, have 18.

Speaker 1:

Now the 2024 NBA draft is scheduled to take place on June 26th through the 27th In 2024, this year the draft will be expanded into two nights. The first round will be held in the Barquet Center on Brooklyn, new York, on Wednesday June 26 at 8 pm Eastern on ABC and ESPN, while the second round will take place on ESPN Seaport District Studios in New York on Thursday June 27, 4 pm Eastern and ESPN. So I'm just going to put it out there uh, 4 PM Eastern and ESPN. So I'm just going to put it out there. I am looking forward to this draft for two notable players from NC state, one DJ horn and one DJ burns.

Speaker 1:

They had a great run in the final four uh for NC state going up against Purdue, for NC State going up against Purdue ultimately losing. But I mean, the season, bro, was trash as the season went on right. Let me just break it down. I'm saying trash just to give you perspective. The season was trash, man. It just didn't really look good for them. They had their struggles, their ups and downs. So they're in the ACC conference, right? So before March Madness, all teams generally have a tournament to end the season.

Speaker 1:

Going into the March Madness, nc State, even with a losing record, had the opportunity to go into the ACC tournament. So it's five games and five nights and at that point it's just like who knows what's going to happen with these guys. They'll probably maybe lose, and then that's it for their season, right Wrong, lose, and then that's it for their season, right Wrong. These dudes literally beat every team they faced off against in the ACC tournament. The most notable games that they went up against were Virginia Duke and UNC Tar Heels for the ACC championship in that tournament and they ultimately beat them. They beat two top ranked well, sure, they beat three top ranked teams and won the championship. And in doing so, winning that championship, and in doing so, winning that championship gave them an automatic ticket to March Madness. Because if they don't win that tournament, bro, their season's done. They don't even get a chance to go into the March Madness, regardless of how they fared in that ACC tournament. And when they got into March Madness, man, they ran through that as well, getting to the Final Four and ultimately were taken out by Purdue. But I mean that, run from ACC tournament leading them up to the final four, they were undefeated. I mean they were beating teams like nobody's business. So, with that being said, the two catalysts man for that team again were DJ Horn and DJ Burns. So it's going to be interesting to see, when this draft comes around, where they land first round or second round, but either way I'll be rooting for them both. First round or second round, but either way, I'll be rooting for them both.

Speaker 1:

And then the Philadelphia 76ers head coach, nick Nurse, advocates for a shortened NBA season, emphasizing the challenge posed by 82 games. So I was thinking about this today and I'm thinking probably what they're going to do is, overall it will be 82 games played. But how that looks is you're going to have a shortened regular NBA season. Then you'll have, after the regular NBA season are in the midst of the NBA season that weird regular championship inaugural championship game that they do, where it, you know, the winner basically gets revenue or money for being the season champion. Then after that you have your all-star game. Then after that you've got your playing tournament. So, depending on where you are lying within the are lying within the NBA season, you know if you're right on the cusp of making the playoffs but you just need a couple wins. Well, this is where the play-in tournament comes in and this gives certain teams that are just right on the cusp of the bubble to go in and knock a couple teams out to get their selves in. Then you'll have the playoffs and even if most of those games go up to seven. So again, you factor in a regular season, the, the, the season championship, uh, all-star game, uh, playing tournament, plus your playoffs, um and finals. That equals 82, but it's no longer going to be a 82 season. Plus this, plus that plus your playoffs, plus your NBA finals, because then at that point you're looking at like 100 games or more. So that's probably how they're going to do it. They're going to factor everything in to equal a total of 82.

Speaker 1:

To NFL general manager of the Miami Dolphins. The Miami Dolphins quarterback, tua Tabaluga, may play out the remainder of his contract and hit free agency, probably just trying to just see how the season goes, and then they're going to pay the dude his money. But I guess it's a win-win for them. If the season does not pan out how they want, then he gets to go and they don't have to worry about anything. If he does essentially turn out to be the guy that they want him to be, then no harm, no foul and free agency they pick him back up, maybe at a reduced price. So we'll have to keep an eye on that.

Speaker 1:

The criteria for the NFL Comeback Player of the Year award has been clarified to emphasize that it's injury and illness. So that's why Joe Flacco won. A lot of people were up in arms, certain players kind of trying to figure out, like bro, like how does this dude get this award where okay, I could see for injury but illness, you know, taking care of himself, or maybe a family member, whatever how, but that's what the NFL is now saying. These are the two criterias. The Dallas Cowboys, who I have renounced because I am a Steelers fan and just want to put that out there.

Speaker 1:

I've made limited process and extending contracts for quarterback Dak Prescott, wide receiver CeeDee Lamb and linebacker Micah Parsons. So here's my thought process on this. Here's my thought process on this. If you're going to take priority on who you're signing, right, you sign defense, because defense helps win championships. So you sign Micah Parsons first. Now you're left with the dilemma of who do you sign next on the offensive side? Is it going to be CeeDee Lamb or is it going to be Dak Prescott? So you sign Dak. Well, you need a wide receiver to be CD Lamb, or is it going to be Dak Prescott? So you sign Dak. Well, you need a wide receiver to throw to. Okay, well then, let's sign CD first. Well, we need him to have a quarterback to throw to him. I'm going to go with CD Lamb. I think he has more upside than Dak.

Speaker 1:

And this is just me being a casual observer of the Dallas Cowboys. And this is just me being a casual observer of the Dallas Cowboys as someone who no longer is a bit of an incentive, and tell him that, look, we're not going to pay you, trevor Lawrence, money, but if you do one, two and three during the season, we will reevaluate your contract. But what we want is we want the playoffs and we want to get deep into the playoffs. So we're talking about Super Bowl. You can get us to the Super Bowl, bro. We'll start you off with X amount of dollars, but if you get us to the Super Bowl at this point we can renegotiate that contract and then we can give you a little bit more. Of course we want to win it, you know. But if you can get us there, then we can definitely talk about, you know, paying you what you feel that you're worth.

Speaker 1:

Kansas City's chief star, travis Kelsey, was spotted enjoying the offseason with his girlfriend, taylor Swift. I mean, as he should, this is an offseason, they just won the Super Bowl, and who doesn't like talking about Taylor Swift? I mean, I mean, come on, it's Taylor Swift, right? Saquon Barkley is making ways with his new team, the Philadelphia Eagles. They believe he can be a game changer. The running game is definitely something that needs to be upgraded for the Eagles and if they can get Saquon back to his old form of how he once was with his first two years on the New York Giants buddy, the league's in trouble.

Speaker 1:

And you're definitely coming out of the NFC, where I could see there being a matchup between the San Francisco 49ers versus the Philadelphia Eagles for the NFC championship game, which would lead to the Superbowl. Now 49ers would have a chip on their shoulder. It seems like they're destined to keep getting back to the Superbowl because they're just that great of a team and at some point they're going to win a championship within this decade, this era, right. But it would be disheartening for them to get to that point and then get knocked off by the Eagles. But they've got some type of resolve, man, where it's just like they know the road is rough, they've taken their bumps and bruises, they pay their dues and no matter what's thrown their way, meaning the 49ers, they, they just have a resilience resolved that they're just going to get back to the Superbowl each and every year, even if they don't win. So my money, at least on the NFC at this point, so my money, at least on the NFC at this point, is going to be the 49ers or Eagles coming out of the NFC going towards the Super Bowl.

Speaker 1:

And then the NHL. We've got Vincent. The former coach of the Columbus Blue Jackets has been fired and no replacement has been named yet. Additionally, trade rumors involving Couture of the San Jose Sharks have been debunked by the team's general manager. Chris Armstrong has been named the president of the hockey operations of the Utah Hockey Club and Tulsky is now the general manager of the Carolina Hurricanes.

Speaker 1:

Can I just stop at one moment and just say that how do you get the fans of the state of Utah involved in naming the hockey team, only for it to become some generic hockey name for a team, the Utah Hockey Club, uhc. Like bro, you literally had fan mail coming from thousands upon thousands upon thousands of fans helping you come up with a hockey name or hockey team name, and this is what you guys come up with. You couldn't have drawn from like the state itself and said, okay, well, we're famous for this particular fruit, this vegetable or this type of bird or this type of tree. To name it after Like the Utah hockey club is the best we could come up with. Oh my goodness, it's ridiculous. Oh my goodness, this is ridiculous, plain, old, ridiculous.

Speaker 1:

But on a brighter note, stanley Cup, some full effect. Game one the Florida Panthers faced off against the Edmonton Oilers and Sergey Bobrovsky, the Panthers' goaltender, put in a pressing performance of 32 saves to shut out. The Panthers secured their first win in that series, to lead the series in the Stanley Cup final with a victory of one zip. Game two the Panthers continued their strong play, defeating the Oilers. Goals by Rodriguez and a solid outing by Bob Sergei, bob Bob Boski, helped the Panthers take a two old lead. Okay, game three Alexander. Uh, barb cough, uh, scored the game winning goal and uh, bob Boski, sergei made 32 saves. Uh, the Panthers won four, three, extending their um series lead to 3-0. So at this point they're up three. So they should be winning at that point.

Speaker 1:

Usually, when a team goes up three zip in a series, there's no coming back. At that point, really, there's no coming back because you've morally and mentally defeated that other team when you go up three, because it's generally hard to come back. So, game four the Oilers staved off elimination with an impressive 8-1 victory over the Panthers. Okay, let's pump the brakes here for a second. So the Panthers were supposed to close them out in game four. That was your game to win, and you're already on the opponent's four anyhow. But the Oilers come out. And not only do they come out, but they beat you 8-1. To let you know, we ain't no punks, we ain't going out like that. So then game five Connor McDavid led the Oilers to a win, preventing the Panthers from clenching the cup in game five. Ok bro, like what are y'all doing? You let them not only win one, but then you let them win two.

Speaker 1:

So now, at this point, the Panthers psyche has got to be playing with them, in a sense of like, ok, the first game was a fluke, but the second one, like, oh, ok, they might have a chance to come back. Now it's 3-2. If they win this one, they push to the game seven. If they win the next game, which would be game six. So then now some doubt starts to creep in to the team. That's up, because the pendulum's swinging now in the momentum of the Edmonton Oilers, right? So then we go to game six. Angelum swinging now in the momentum of the Edmonton Oilers, right? So then we go to game six. The Panthers had another chance to secure their first Stanley Cup title, but the Oilers fought back. The Oilers won the game six, tying the series forcing game seven. Now all the momentum and energy is in the favor of the Edmonton Oilers, I don't care what you say. So it's like you go up three, then you lose three. So at this point, like I said, the momentum's in the favor of the Oilers. So they're playing with house money.

Speaker 1:

At this point, win or lose. Lose is like nobody expected us to win three straight, but we did it Win. Nobody expected us to even win at this point. To come back from three zip and win four straight that's impressive. Reminds me of that 2016 run for LeBron where he played up against the Warriors Golden State Warriors Warriors before it was all said and done. Where I was looking bleak. In that series, it was 3-1 in favor of the Warriors. So, essentially, in order to win a championship and it had never been done before in the NBA Finals LeBron and his team had to win three straight. So they had to win one at home, win one on Warriors turf and then win another one at home in game seven. But they did it. They pulled off the inevitable. They pulled off the unthinkable. So at this point, the Oilers have the chance to do the same. Let's see if they do it Now on the television.

Speaker 1:

Here are some of the most anticipated television shows and streaming series. We have Hacks, season three Reuniting Never Felt so Good. The comedy series roars back with a fresh humor and a pervasive Argument of its own longevity. The Boys, season 4, darkly humorous Series, continues to explore the political arena While holding up a mirror To modern society.

Speaker 1:

X-men 97, season 1, staying true to its beloved Predecessor while Charting a path forward for the franchise. The animated series simply is excellent. It excels. I can't stress enough how great that series was for season one. It paid off so many Easter eggs and so many things from the previous X-Men, the animated series that used to come on Saturdays for Fox. They already have season two fast-tracked in the works, season three and four. So I mean, if they play their cards right, I mean they can match how many seasons they had with the previous X-Men. So I mean it's worth it. I mean the series at this point now with X-Men 97 is oh, it's just, it's a creme de la creme, all right. So we've got some new releases here. We have Orphan Black.

Speaker 1:

Black Echoes delves into a new chapter of Orphan Black Universe, exploring the lives of a fresh set of clones set in a near future society. The series follows a group of women who discover they are part of a vast and complex cloning experiment. As they uncover their origins and grapple with their new identities, they must navigate dangerous conspiracies and powerful enemies determined to control their fate. Land of Women the show follows Gala, a New York socialite whose life is turned upside down when her husband is implicated and the family, in financial improprietieseties, forced to flee New York City. Gala escapes alongside with her mother and her daughter. Their journey takes them to charming Spain wine town, where Gala must navigate small town courts while confronting her deepest family secrets and dealing with a pair of bumbling hitmen. All right, and then the Bear.

Speaker 1:

Season three is an acclaimed comedy drama series set in a Chicago sandwich shop run by a young chef who inherits the family business after his brother commits suicide, trading in the glittering life of Michelin star restaurant for a chaotic kitchen of Michelin star restaurants for our chaotic kitchen, the unruly employees, all while dealing with his own unresolved pain. So I, just between Friday and now, binge watched season one and two and it's. It's everything they say. It is man, stress induced, anxiety induced. What more can you want? And it's everything they say. It is man, stress-induced, anxiety-induced. What more can you want? While learning the secrets of the trade in the kitchen, of cooking new inventions, invigorating Even for me, wanting to get in there and cook some of that stuff like dang man, this stuff look good. I want to try some of this. Let me see if I can whip up some of this stuff, but, um, I wouldn't say it's a comedy. It's definitely more drama. Um but um, you see this young man go through life dealing with his own, um, personal issues due to family drama being dysfunctional and because of where the origin point starts, with his family drama and it made him as a person very tortured. It also impacts his relationships and dating and relationships and just in general with just people that he works with are just casual friends. So season three premieres on the 27th of June. So if you're a fan of the bear or kind of on the fence, go on and start watching season one, season two, so you can get caught up on season three.

Speaker 1:

All right now, television shows with replay value. We have x-files from 93 to 2018. The iconic show combines supernatural thrills with mystery as agents moeller and scully investigate strange occurrences. Despite its long run, it remains an intriguing and even surprises viewers with some dark and gross moments. Lost, a captivating TV show that follows a harrowing journey of the followers from the oceanic flight 815, which crashes on a remote tropical island. As they band together to survive, they uncover mysteries about the island's past, present and future. The show weaves intricate storylines, secrets and unexpected twists, making it a thrilling and suspenseful experience.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, basically, from what I've seen, in order to really talk about the show I would literally need to do a show by itself on just this show by itself. But from what I've gathered when I watched every episode of Lost, the people are dead and they just don't know it. It's not until the very last episode that it's revealed that they all have this meeting place in this church and the church is basically them walking into the afterlife heaven. But when you're looking at the show now, after explaining it, you realize that they're dead and they are in purgatory or hell, that they're dead and they are in purgatory or hell and they're trying to navigate from purgatory hell to heaven. And in that course or that journey, they run up against this dark entity that's basically in their way, stopping them making their way into the afterlife of heaven in their way, stopping them making their way into the afterlife of heaven. So their resolve, their resilience, their determination, their will to live essentially carry them to their final resting place. Some made it and some didn't, but ultimately, when you look at that show, that's essentially all it is. They are literally dead and they're trying to find their way to the afterlife.

Speaker 1:

Scrubs. The show revolves around the lives of employees at a fictional secret heart hospital, a teaching hospital. The title is a play on surgical scrubs and refers to medical interns who make up most of the main cast or characters. The series is known for its fast-paced, slapstick humor and surreal daydream sequences often experienced by the central character, dr John JD Dorian. Okay, so now to end the show here with video games.

Speaker 1:

Some fascinating information I have found and cooked up for you now. I don't know if you knew, but nintendo allegedly canceled a game called super mario spikers, described as a volleyball slash wrestling hybrid for the wii. While it sounds odd, it's interesting to imagine. Imagine Mario in wrestling gear for a volleyball game. Look, I've seen worse from Mario. Literally, in certain games I've seen worse from Mario. But this would have been interesting to have most of our characters show up in wrestling gear and hitting the volleyball, it would have been interesting to see what the superpower combo moves would have been used to, you know, spike the ball or hit the ball, or if you would have been able to do a move on, let's say, mario doing a special move on Bowser or Donkey Kong or Ghostface, to get a point advantage. It just would have been interesting. I mean, when companies take risk in gambles like that, they usually pay off. I'm just surprised that Nintendo didn't go that route to try to get the big payoff. To try to get the big payoff. Speaking of Mario, we got us. Well, I don't know, is Luigi the little bro or big bro? Well, we'll just say well, we know he's his bro, but pre-orders for Luigi's Mansion 2 is on the books for June 27. So if you're a big fan of that franchise when it hit uh, years ago and are ready for the continuation or sequel June 27th, go on and get your pre-orders ready so that you're going to start playing it, probably, maybe by holiday. They're going to take pre-orders now, but maybe a game like this, they're going to probably release it for a holiday release, to get real. Not get real, but get more money towards the franchise.

Speaker 1:

Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart was released on June 11th of 2024. Join Ratchet and Clank in their interdimensional quest Halo Infinite, released on June 14th of 2024. We get to see Master Chief return in the sci-fi FPS. And then a little love here to an old game I used to play called Destiny. They had released on June 4th a DLC download content or an expansion called the Final Shape. Now, in this expansion, it's centered around the player's guardian seeking out the franchise's major villain, the Witness. The Witness disappeared through the portal on the surface of the Celestial Travel at the conclusion of Lightfall, which was another DLC or expansion back in 2013. So we get to see the Guardians and the Vanguard stop the Witness from creating a titular final shape, a destructive force that calcifies all life in the universe. This confrontation concludes the first major saga of Destiny, known as the Light and Darkness saga.

Speaker 1:

Returning characters. Cade Six, who was killed during the events of the Forsaken back in 2018, makes a comeback. Only thing I would say about that one is when you have a major character get killed off, it's not for nothing. It's one of those things where it shakes up the franchise and rocks it to its core. But when it's a major character killed, it's that much more meaningful. But to bring him back now and have a loophole for him, it just, it just didn't feel right Because it's like, at this point, what was the point of killing him off in the first place? Anyway, if you're just going to bring him back, I don't get it. But that's what our good friends at Bungie decided to do. So, hey, it's your game, do what you want, but, um, yeah. So if you are fans of the franchise and didn't know that they released a um, uh, expansion or DLC uh back on June 4th, well, they did check it out, um. Or if, if you already knew, I'm just um, sharing or putting a spotlight on them Because, like I said, it was a former game that I used to play, spent many, many hours on that game, destiny 1 and Destiny 2. But sometimes you just outgrow them or sometimes a franchise just isn't innovative anymore and you lose interest. So that concludes video games, and then that concludes our segment, our episode, our podcast. So that's episode 25 in the books of the King's Perspective.

Speaker 1:

I am King Chill. If you found the episode insightful, delightful, entertaining, share it like, subscribe it with a sister, brother, cousin, aunt, uncle, mother, father, friend, co-worker, whoever, let's just get it out there, let's get it big, let's just get it out there, let's get it big. I appreciate every single one of you guys coming out and listening to me ramble each and every week about the same stuff over and over, Just different, as an old coworker used to say. I would ask him how's he living? And he would say you know, same suit, just reheat it. So you know again, it's the same soup here, just reheat it. Maybe it's got a little paprika in it, maybe it's got a little garlic powder, little onion powder, but again, it's still still informative, it's still still entertaining. So I appreciate you coming out and listening to me. So again, king's Perspective, king Chill, episode 25 in the books Peace.
