Speaker 1:

Welcome back to the King's Perspective. I am King Chill. This is episode 26. Yes, episode 26. I would say consecutive, consistent, but I can't say that because there has been a few episodes that I have missed. These are some things going on, but, yes, actually it would probably be episode 28 by now. But I digress, I'm not going to go into that. But, um as well, the episode. Um, not the episode, but the giveaway is still going on. I'm going to extend that for a couple more episodes here to see if anybody's interested in doing that.

Speaker 1:

Um, I will announce the winner shortly. I'm thinking by let's give it episode 29. I'm going to announce the winner and let it be known who won. I'm not going to put out your full government or anything like that, but usually, if you have Twitter, I'll put out your username or, if that doesn't pop up, I'll just give your state and city name. That way the winner knows who they are. Um, when they want. Well, I'll have already known who the winner is, cause we'll have already exchanged information and DMS and all that. But at least for the other listeners they'll just know either it's going to be the username or city and state and winner. Um, so yeah, that's how we'll do that.

Speaker 1:

So, looking at episode 29, to announce the winner here, Um, so we'll go from there. But you know how the show goes. You know we talk everything about film, music, sports, television, video games. Um, usually what's happening within the week, uh, whatever's popular, whatever's trending, and uh, talk about them. You know they seem to be a bit interesting and we'll go from there. So let's go ahead and start the show.

Speaker 1:

And let's start this off with film, and here are some of the most popular movies. Right now we have Thelma, a heartwarming film that centers around a uniquely strong bond between a 93 yearold named Thelma and her Gen Z grandson, daniel. When Thelma falls victim to a phone scam and loses $10,000, she embarks on a treacherous quest across the city to reclaim what was taken from her. So it's like John Wick for geriatrics, but you're not going to have a lot of gun action. Maybe a little violent somewhere, maybe almost self-inflicted violence. You know, someone's rolling around in a wheelchair or go-kart, something of that nature. No explosions, to my knowledge from when I seen the trailer. But overall, though, all jokes aside, it does seem to be a very interesting film and I would definitely recommend it. It was definitely on the list for the last couple episodes, but it just didn't make the cut. I had a whole slew of other films as well that were there, but we've got this one here that will definitely while your socks off. So check out Thelma.

Speaker 1:

And then we have bike riders. The movie captivates the audience and captures the rebellious time in America, focusing on the motorcycle culture, and features a charismatic cast and gritty authenticity. Hitman a dark thriller with unexpected laughs. Hitman a dark thriller with unexpected laughs. Can it really, though, when we're talking about a hitman who's killing someone, and then there's a bit of comedy mixed in there, I guess, is that what they're saying? Ok, all right, I guess. Starring Glenn Powell as a professor who moonlights as a fake hitman, we have Richard Linklater, who directs this entertaining film. Um, surprisingly, I did hear good things about, uh, the hit man, so I definitely would say it's worth the recommendation of checking out. And then on to new releases here. Um, for films that you'll be checking out this week. Now, these are going to be stair-step films that will be dropping on July 3rd, july 4th and July 5th.

Speaker 1:

So we have Despicable Me 4. Gru, the former supervillain turned anti-villain league agent, enjoys a peaceful life as a stay-at-home dad with his three daughters, margo, edith and Agnes. However, their tranquility is disrupted when a new villain named Balthazar Bratt enters the scene Additionally. After escaping from incarceration, maxine Lee Maul and his girlfriend Valentina seek revenge on Gru and his family, including their baby son, gru Jr. Now, to protect themselves, the family goes into relocation or witness protection. But yeah, it would be witness protection even if you are a bad guy, cause in most films like Goodfellas, like you have mobsters that literally go into witness protection or protection or relocation. So, yeah, so he meets some new neighbors the Prescotts and their daughter Poppy. So Despicable Me.

Speaker 1:

It's number four in the series entertaining, and people are seeming to, by the numbers from what we can see, are stating that they want more of what they're seeing. So why not give them more by making a part four? Speaking of new entries into the series, now, this series, it man, it's I think it was the last in the series would have been, for this film that I'm getting ready to talk about would have been either 94 or 95. So a lot of time has lapsed. But we are talking about here, um Beverly Hills cop Axel F, and the F is for fully, fully.

Speaker 1:

Detective Axel fully returns to Beverly Hills after his daughter, jane's life is threatened. She teams up with her ex-boyfriend, detective Bobby Abbott, and Axel's old pals, lieutenant William, billy Rosewood and John Daggard, to uncover a conspiracy. So I mean, if Tom Cruise can do it and I mean he's like in his 60s then why can't Eddie Murphy come back and help revamp the franchise here? So it won't be solely here on just Eddie Murphy's character, axel Fooley. There's going to be some new players in there. As it said, it's going to be dealing with his daughter and her ex and then some old pals. Billy Rosewood, played by I'm probably going to butcher his name Judge Reinhold, and then the character the OG I mean he was an OG in the first original Beverly Hills Cop but they brought him back here the character named John Taggart. So I mean it's going to be interesting. And it's also going to be interesting to see Judge Reynolds reprise his role here as Billy Rosewood. He's definitely a green character, but I think that's what made his character so likable, just his dumb witted personality and just very gullible personality to the film. So I'll be interested to see how Billy's matured, or if he has matured at that point, and then seeing what Eddie Murphy brings to the table, billy's matured, or if he has matured at that point. And then seeing what Eddie Murphy brings to the table with his comedic timing and reprising the role of Axel Foley.

Speaker 1:

Now we have another film here Space Cadet. Now synopsis that I have here for you. It says Tiffany Rex Simpson, a Florida party girl, unexpectedly lands a coveted spot in NASA's ultra competitive astronaut training program, despite other candidates having better resumes. Rex smarts, heart and moxie make her the agency's last hope for space program. As she faces, challenges, and memories from her childhood resurface. Rex embarks on a mission that could change her life and the fate of the NASA program. Now this film stars Emma Roberts and Gabrielle Union. This one's going to be released on Netflix, I believe, just like Beverly Hills Cops, so it won't be in theaters. And then I've got another film here for you, maxine.

Speaker 1:

Now, if you're familiar with Mia Goff and her most recent acting in the film X and that series, this is a continuation of the X series, but this one here takes place in the 80s, so it's almost like it's the same character going forward in time and different spots. I dare I would say this story is almost told, maybe out of order kind of I'm not sure, because, remembering the first X film, the character she was playing was played again in the next series, but a bit older. But then she has essentially the same person or character in the second film being played in the third film, if I believe correctly. But this film takes place in the 80s in Hollywood. Maxine Minx, an adult film star and aspiring actress, finally gets her big break. However, she pursues fame. A mysterious killer known as the Night Stalker targets Hollywood starlets. Maxine must navigate her rising career while evading this deadly threat. And then, lastly, we have Boneyard. The film revolves around the hunt for a serial killer known as the Bone Collector. However, chief Carter fears that the killer might be one of his own officers. The tangled web of intrigue keeps everyone guessing as they investigate the famous, the infamous, sorry Boneyard killings. So again, these films will be released July 3rd, 4th and 5th. So if you see them on your video on demand or streaming services, check them out. And then I think one film in particular will be just released in the movie theaters and that will be Despicable Me 4.

Speaker 1:

Now, films with great replay value. We have the Dead Poets Society, no-transcript, so he's like a supporting cast member. So we've got Ethan Hawking there as Todd Anderson, sean Robert, sean Leonard as Neil Perry you probably know Sean for his later acts in House and then we have Josh Charles as Knox Overstreet. So those are the main characters that you'll probably remember from the film. But overall the film when I watched it this was released in 1989. I probably didn't watch this film until 1993.

Speaker 1:

But watching the film at the time as a young tot, it really was interesting to see the use of poetry, how it's similes, metaphors, soliloquies are used in film or at the time to help these young men develop a sense of vocabulary and love for essentially fine arts of reading. So it was very interesting to see that play out on the big screen in the film Um. So I definitely have a certain fondness for that. I believe in this film is where they use the um, the popular phrase oh captain, my captain. So um, yeah, you'll definitely uh, see that in that film as well. But it's a good film overall. I definitely would recommend it.

Speaker 1:

Another film that's near and dear to my heart, not only because I'm not an avid baseball fan Heck, I don't even watch baseball now but at the time this film being released, I was being Released. I Was. And then the fact that it took place in my home state, iowa. We have Field of Dreams. An Iowan farmer, ray Kinsella, is inspired by a voice he can't ignore To pursue a dream he can hardly believe. Supported by his wife, ray begins the quest by turning his ordinary cornfield into a place where dreams can come true. So either Ray was suffering from schizophrenia or he was imagining all this. I don't know. I'm gonna have to look on YouTube or Reddit to see um, is he suffering from? Um, uh, what was going on with professor professor Nash in a beautiful mind? Uh, but yeah, all jokes aside though, uh, this voice basically made him, uh, leap forward, uh, and create and convert his cornfield into a baseball field. And after it was all finished or accomplished, he had people come there and play. And then it was weird, because you've seen OGs like old, legendary baseball players, coming and play on the field and it's like whoa, okay, what's going on here? How are these dudes here playing? Know, they're not even alive. So it's like, again, does this film symbolize something? Like was ray dead and this is like the afterlife for him. His, his masterwork was to create a baseball field, like I'm trying to figure out. Somebody help me. Was Ray just dreaming this all up? Was he suffering from some type of mental breakdown or was he truly dead? Because you don't start seeing old people re-emerging unless you're dead at that point. So I need to know.

Speaker 1:

Another Kevin Costner film here Untouchables. During the Prohibition era, treasury agent Elliot Ness sets out to stop the ruthless Chicago gangster, al Capone, and assemble a small incor look at what the prohibition era looked like or you know the G-men versus the gangsters at that time. Because you know it's Hollywood, so you got to take it with a grain of salt. You know, some things can be a bit embellished, but we can kind of get a sense of what it must have been like embellished, but we can kind of get a sense of what it must have been like. And I think it was a great job by Kevin Costner portraying Elliot Ness and then Robert Nero as Al Capone. So I think this movie generally is up there with gangster films like Scarface, is up there with gangster films like Scarface, godfather, the Film Escapes Goodfellas I was going to say the Film Escapes Me, but yeah, films like that dealing with stuff like that. So it's a great film as well.

Speaker 1:

Now on to our music scene. We have famous musicians from Louisiana. We have Louis Armstrong, born in New Orleans in 1901. Louis Armstrong became an iconic figure in jazz with his trumpet skills and hit songs like what a Wonderful World. That left a lasting impact on the music worldwide. Why, to me, when I think of Louis Armstrong, I think of his voice, and it's a very unique voice and how he sings. I don't know if it was an act that he was putting on when he was singing that way, if that was truly his music voice, but it's very haunting, to say the least. All jokes aside not dissing Louis, but just for real, the voice is very, very haunting. But again, I think that's what made that dynamic combo for him singing and the trumpet skills.

Speaker 1:

Now we have Britney Spears, a pop star. Britney was born in Maycomb, mississippi, but grew up in Kentwood, louisiana. Her chart-topping hits have made her a global sensation. Yeah, when Britney blew up on the scene in 1993, she had a run, I would say, from 1999. I said 93, from 1999 up until about maybe 2005.

Speaker 1:

But then after that it was just kind of like she fell off, and I mean she fell off hard because she had a lot of things going on behind the scenes, just mentally, and some legal troubles as well. Um, just mentally and some legal troubles as well. Um, I know she tried to make a resurgence at the vmas, which would be the video music awards for mtv. I want to say I think it was 2010, but correct me if I'm wrong it was either 2010 or 2009, but it didn't really hit. Um, but it didn't really hit quite the same for her, in a sense of like you know, when you get you know musical artists that come and perform, like everybody's going crazy. But I just remember it was a bit cringeworthy because it was like oh, it's Britney.

Speaker 1:

And then she came out with the song and it's like she's performing. And when she's performing it's like she seems a little bit off beat, off kilter. It's like she's missing her mark, missing her timing. I think she was lip syncing as well, but it was just like, oh, all right, she's back, all right, but it ain't in top form like she used to be. So I think right now Britney's known more for her TikTok viral videos that she does and these little short crop top shirts with a revealing bra and these short underwear, and she's usually doing some type of choreography, with knives in her hands, twisting and turning and twirling. I'm like, I guess man, like, if this is what it's come to in the career, at your stage or your phase in your career, I mean it is what it is, but I wasn't expecting this. I sure was not expecting this.

Speaker 1:

So yeah, on to another artist here from New Orleans, a rapper and songwriter, lil Wayne Dwayne Michael Carter Jr hails from New Orleans. His distinctive style and successful career have left him an invaluable mark on hip-hop. Successful career have left him an invaluable mark on hip hop. Um, if I remember correctly, he got to start by just saying a few words on juveniles. Back that thing up, um, and that was 1999. So this man has had a career that has spanned 25 years, at least two decades working on three.

Speaker 1:

What can I say about Wayne? I would say at this point, he's like the Southern version of Snoop Dogg, where it's like everybody knows him your mama, your daddy, cousin, uncle, auntie, brother, sister, mom, dad, grandma, grandpa. They could probably even spit a Wayne verse for you as well. He's, he's become a household name. At this point, there's no one that doesn't know who little Wayne is.

Speaker 1:

At this point, let's see here, music here that will be released. Just recently, matter of fact, we have. Marco Plus released an album called Solace, featuring impressive rapping and earning an acclaim of album of the year. So anytime an artist in hip hop has what's considered album of the year, I got to check you out to see what's going on. And then Fallage released best of both worlds featuring you guessed it highly anticipated collaboration with Lil Wayne and previously released single AMF with Neil Choppa.

Speaker 1:

Lil Yachty and James Blake released a collaborative album called Bad Cameo, part of Blake's expected series of collaborative albums. Lil Yachty is trying to be Rebrand his career by trying to be taken more serious as an artist. Um, he's come from what was considered mumble rap and now he wants to take his craft more serious, uh, be more thought provoking and get out of that mumble sounding rap. So, uh, teaming up with James Blake. So, teaming up with James Blake is a bit of a I wouldn't say risk, but it's a different approach to his career. And then James Blake is an alternative artist who's dibbled and dabbled in R&B, done some work with Beyonce as well, writing wise I don't know if he's produced anything instrumentation wise like a song that she's would sing over, but I think this will be a great one. So I'll check that one out too.

Speaker 1:

And then Rory released Southern Mystic, the second of four albums he announced for this year. So at this point we're in June you release your second album. So I would assume you're going to do your third follow-up album, probably sometime in September, and then your fourth and final release in December. Now the only thing I would say is you have to be careful of the quantity versus quality. You know I'm all for artists, you know, releasing music as much as they want, but sometimes that quality don't be hidden. And when it don't be hidden, you just like why was this released? But um, if you have an artist that releases four albums in a year and they're consecutively great, that's awesome. It's rare that you'll see it like that, where an artist can release two albums in a year and that they'll be fire, but it'll definitely be interesting to see.

Speaker 1:

And then we have Lupe Fiasco releases an album called Samurai, entirely produced by Soundtrack, who goes back to the days of his Food and Liquor album and other albums that he's produced on as well. But most notably, you remember soundtrack all over the Food and Liquor album, lupe Fiasco's first album. So it says here that Lupe draws inspiration from Amy Winehouse, who becomes a battle rapper in this creative work. Now, to give you backstory just real quick on that, amy Winehouse was talking with the producer at one time, salah Remy, about how she battled through her stresses, anxiety and problems in life by battle rapping not other people, but just battle rapping on paper or writing raps and even would dream about battle rapping and that helped get her through her issues in life that she was facing at that time. So what you have here is this album of a concept of that conversation taking place between Amy Winehouse and Salah Remy and Lupe Fiasco basically putting himself in the shoes of Amy Winehouse and rapping as if she had became a battle rapper instead of R&B In her next phase of her career, stopping the R&B and going into battle rapping.

Speaker 1:

So I've checked out a little bit of that album. I mean it sounds great, the production sounds great, the lyricism is great. I just got to give it time to sit down and fully listen, with no skips from beginning to end to get the full concept. And then we have Marsha Ambrosius with her album Casa Blanco. This 11 track project is captivating as an infusion of R&B, jazz and hip hop produced entirely by the legendary Dr Dre. So anytime Dr Dre gets behind the boards, I'm all game for it.

Speaker 1:

This album is titled a play on luxurious lifestyle depicted in the iconic film Casablanca and the Moroccan city. Marsha Ambrosia, a Grammy nominated artist, was rejuvenated creatively by Dre's encouragement to explore without limits. This result is a sonically opulent collage that pushes boundaries, featuring intricate samples from artists like Michael Jackson, duke Ellington and Ambrosius herself. With this unique sound and construction, with this unique sound and construction, casablanca stands out from today's trap beat R&B, offering a substantial instrumental breaks and creative arrangements. So I've checked that one out. As far, I've only listened to maybe, let's say, about three tracks. Sounds great and anything, like I said, dr Dre gets behind is great. Rarely do you see Dr Dre produce a whole soul and R&B album, but it's always great to see his take on different genres, especially in the R&B field. So it's definitely going to be interesting to really sit down and listen to that one in its whole entirety.

Speaker 1:

Then we have here are some of the exciting soul and R&B artists to keep an eye on for 2024. We have Jordan Ward. Known for his high spirited, playful alternative R&B, jordan Ward made a splash with his breakout album Ford in 2023. His track Little Baby Crush is a must listen. Now we have another artist, naomi Sharon uh, with smooth shot AS vocals. Uh, naomi Sharon uh debut album Obsidian feels spiritual and vulnerable. Uh, she recently joined Drake's OEO label as their latest R&B solo artist. So more from Party Next Door. But Major Jordan, not so much as of recent, but it'll be interesting to see what Naomi Sharon can do.

Speaker 1:

And Natanya, a grunge fusion R&B artist with euphoric vocals. Natanya's addiction music is characterized, addictive music is characterized by distinctive vocals. Check out her track Angel for a taste of her talent. And then Samari. If you are a lover seeking sweet Kalani-esque vocals, samari is your girl. Her EP, even Paradise Rains, takes listeners on an emotional journey. And then, lastly, we have Ego Ella May. For jazz lovers, ego Ella May reflects and tranquil sound is a treat. She co-produced three out of her four songs on her EP Field Notes Part 3, released in late 2023. Now for me, out of these lists, of these characters I was going to say characters, these artists, I would say definitely want to check out Naomi Sharon, because I'm a sucker for Sade Natanya. I really want to see what grunge fusion R&B sounds like. And then I definitely would love to check out the Ego LMA for the Jazz and R&B Fusion. So those are upcoming artists that you should check out for 2024.

Speaker 1:

Now on to sports. We have MLB Padres. Rookie Jeremiah Estrada has been making history with exceptional strikeout rates, leading MLB relievers in K percentage and ranking high in the annals of relief pitching. The New York Mets have made jersey patches to honor the lives of Jerry Grote and Willie Mays, both who passed away this year. The patches feature two former greats numbers and will be worn for the remainder of the 2024 MLB season numbers and will be warm for the remainder of the 2024 MLB season. And then the Yankees outfielder, juan Soto, is set to become a free agent after this season. Juan, an elite hitter, is on pace for what might be the best season of his career, hitting .304, .44, and .567 with 19 home runs. He turned down a reported $440 million extension offer from the Nationals a few years ago and is likely to test the market. Teams like the Yankees, which he's already on, the Mets, dodgers and Giants are expected to be involved

Speaker 1:

in pursuing him. Nba news Lakers head coach JJ Redick has been making headlines. He's known for his three-point shooting during his time in the NBA and his honesty during his introductory news conference has drawn some attention. He basically dropped the F-bomb when he was up there. Basically, someone asked him about the podcast and social media takes and he basically just said I basically don't give a bleep, I don't give a F. I'm here to galvanize my players, the organization, the fan base. I'm here to win All that other stuff I could care less about. So I I'm here to win All that other stuff I could care less about. So I'm basically here to win. So it'll be great for them because I think the Lakers this is what they need. The previous coach, darvin Hamm, was there for about two years. He, his first year, got them to, meaning Darvin ham got them to the Western conference finals. They lost it to Dallas, not Dallas, denver nuggets, um, they got swept. But I mean, each game felt like the Lakers were right within it and could have won. And then this year they got outs in the first round to the Denver nuggets, again to a um's sweep, basically with the Nuggets winning four to one. Then shortly after that, that's when they released Darvin Ham and then start their search for new coaches. So I feel like JJ Redick might be what they need. So we'll see

Speaker 1:

how it goes. Now. Paul George of the Los Angeles Clippers has opted out of his final year of his contract with the Clippers, making him a unrestricted free agent. He declined his forty eight point seven million option for the twenty twenty four, twenty twenty five season. The Golden State Warriors have been pursuing him and are now out of the picture. Now out of the picture. Now that he's out of the picture, sorry. George is expected to be the top target for teams like Philadelphia 76ers and this free agency. I don't know if the Warriors have enough cash or cash to get Paul George, but we'll see. But I know one team since it's been known that he's opted out and got into a free agency as an unrestricted free agent, the Philadelphia 76ers are biting, are salivating right now to try to get him, to pair him with Joel Embiid

Speaker 1:

and Tyrese Maxey. Another player that's possibly linked to this here I'm going to talk about is Clay Thompson. The Warriors have put a two-year offer on the table for Clay Thompson ahead of the upcoming free agency. However, there are still negotiations to be worked out, as Thompson initially expressed an interest in a contract lasting three years or more Reports suggest that the Warriors are prepared to part ways with Thompson and free agency after 13 years. Other teams that are pursuing Klay Thompson are the Orlando Magics Orlando Magic, sorry who may offer him a longer contract that he's seeking? So you have the Orlando Magic. I also heard the Los Angeles Lakers, because his father played for the Los Angeles Lakers, so it's kind of almost fitting to see his father, michael Thompson, wanting to see his son play for basically his alma mater, almost. You have the Clippers Los Angeles Clippers that are pursuing him as well, and

Speaker 1:

then the 76ers. Now, the reason why I mentioned this with the previous statement is that it'd be very interesting if the Philadelphia 76ers can pull it off and they get Paul George from the Clippers, even though he's coming from the Clippers in his free agency state, and then they can also pull something off and get Clay Thompson. So then at that point you have Tyrese Maxey. You would have Clay Thompson as your shooting guard, your small forward as Paul George, their power forward might be Kelly Oubre and then your center as Joel Embiid. If they were to pull that off and get that to go, I would definitely say the Philadelphia 76ers are poised to be the favorites to come out of the East. That means if they are the favorites to come out of the East, that means they topple the defending champs, the Boston Celtics. And I feel like I don't want to take anything away from the Celtics and say this, but I felt like the East was pretty injured, so they kind of got lucky and their timing just hit. But when all these teams are healthy in the East, it'll be interesting to see where Boston falls

Speaker 1:

in the playoffs. Now the NBA draft had just passed and I had mentioned two players from NC State that I was looking forward to seeing where they fell in the draft. Now they didn't get drafted, which I don't know what some of these owners were thinking in management, but hey, it is what it is right. But luckily those two players did eventually still make it into the NBA by signing for what would be the Summer League. So DJ Horn, the former NC State star, has signed with the Summer League deal with. Dj Horn, the former NC State star, has signed with the Summer League deal with the San Antonio Spurs. After touring the country for NBA workouts, horn decided to sign with the San Antonio Spurs following the 2024 NBA draft. His one season in NC State was remarkable, where he averaged 16.9 points a game and led the team in both scoring and steals. Horn's journey has been nothing short of impressive and now he's taking the next step forward to an NBA roster. He joins his former

Speaker 1:

teammate, dj Burns. Why do I always do that? When I say Burns, I say it weird, I don't know why. Why do I always do that? When I say Burns, I say it weird, I don't know why. Who signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers on a summer league deal? Exciting times for Wolfwalk fans. So yes, so you have DJ Horn with San Antonio Spurs for the summer league, and then you have DJ Burns Jr, who will be signing with the Cleveland Cavaliers for the summer league as well. So both of them. Congrats, kudos, because I mean these boys put it down for NC State. I mean that impressive run through the ACC tournament and winning the championship, and then, once they got into the March Madness tournament and ran through it and got all the way to the final four and coming up short against Purdue, I mean, when DJ Horn was on, dj Horn was on. When DJ Burns Jr was on, he was on Some games DJ Horn wasn't on, but then you had DJ Burns Jr killing it. When DJ Burns Jr wasn't killing it, then you had DJ Horn killing it. So it's like those two were complimentary pieces for NC State at that time during that run. Very, very, very special and magnificent

Speaker 1:

at that time. Now on to the NFL. Why am I saying San Antonio? San Francisco 49ers, wide receiver Brandon Ayuki has been discussing a contract extension with the team. They have not come to terms. I know in the offseason they were still trying to figure out things during the draft and I know there were some pieces that they were trying to look for to trade Brandon, but it never

Speaker 1:

came to fruition. A former general manager believes that Jordan Love could have a breakout season and would be ahead of most of your NFL quarterbacks. I mean, from what I've seen, when he went up against the Dallas Cowboys and the Detroit Lions in the playoffs. I mean I expect him to. I expect him to continue on where he last left off. I mean because that season, man, it was crazy. It really didn't look like the Green Bay Packers had much of a season but they turned things around. They got a few losses to work in their favor to get them into the playoffs. And when they got into the playoffs. They beat Dallas and they damn near beat Detroit. So, I mean, jordan

Speaker 1:

Love has arrived. Jordan Love is going to be kind of like how Aaron Rodgers was taking over for Brett Favre. So it's like they seem to know what they're doing here, where they cultivate great talent. Where Brett Favre was there and then waiting on the wings was Aaron Rodgers. Aaron Rodgers held y'all down for a while, won a championship, and then now he's gone. Now Rodgers Aaron Rodgers held y'all down for a while, won a championship, and then now he's gone. Now people are expecting him to have that same effect where he's going to find his footing, do his thing, win a championship there in Green Bay, and then you know. The

Speaker 1:

rest is history. And then on to my Pittsburgh Steelers. Defensive coordinators are focusing on safety McKenna Fitzpatrick's resurgence in the 2024-2025 season. So they're focusing on defense, because they've already got their offense to me together when they've got Russell Wilson as their premier quarterback and then their premier backup quarterback in Justin Fields, formerly from Chicago. So I think the team is headed in the right direction, because I was looking at them last year as being a Cowboy fan, looking at the grass, being greener on the other side, saying like, yes, this is what I would want my team to be like. They've got the grit, they've got the fight, they've got the heart, the talent, they're just missing a few pieces. And they went out and did that with the quarterback situation and now they're fixing their, or improving

Speaker 1:

upon their, defense. And then on to the NHL. The Florida Panthers secured their first NHL championship by defeating the Edmonton Oilers in a game seven. The Panthers clinched a 2-1 victory, avoiding a collapse. After leading the series 3-1, which I talked about. I said more people will only start talking about that collapse if they lose this series because they were up three. They're going to be like what the heck man, how do you be up three and can't seal the deal or close it out? Essentially, you got up three and then turn around and lost four straight to the Edmonton Oilers, but luckily that didn't happen. The star forward, sam Reinhardt scored the game-winning goal late in the second period, while goaltender Sergei Barovsky made crucial saves. Despite the loss, the Oilers' Connor McDavid won the Conn Smythe Trophy as the most valuable player of the entire NHL postseason, tallying an impressive 42 points. So yeah, it was a great series for it to go to seven. I mean it looked like Florida Panthers, essentially, were basically going to sweep this team, but it didn't happen that way. You know, the Edmonton Oilers came back and pushed it to

Speaker 1:

a game seven. One person that stands out to me during this whole series was Florida Panthers goalie Sergey Bovrowski. I mean, every time I looked up at each game, from game one to seven, I'm seeing how many saves he had. I think in one game he had like 34 or 43 saves. That's to me crazy. I don't know if that's unheard of, but that just shows you that Sergei was not going to let his team go down and let the Edmonton Oilers really score like that on them. So you know, had thoughts of Sergei, basically, you know, really saving the team. Now Sam Reinhart could be a 10 million player if the Florida Panthers can't reach a deal by July 1st, and then the Tampa Bay Lightning may have cleared enough cap to re-sign Stephen Sampkos and extend Victor Hedman. All right, now, that

Speaker 1:

closes out sports. Now here is television for you. Here are some of the most popular television shows that are currently being viewed. We have Star Wars Acolyte taking a fresh risk with Star Wars lore, this Padawan series has potential to become a master. And then House of Dragons series, season two is approaching its dynastic cataclysm. Deliberately, this fiery spectacle sets up an emotional stake. And then your Honor. Now this series, um, it's, it's not out of circulation, it's just not current right now. It just ended with season two, uh, I would say

Speaker 1:

back in 2022. Um, but it stars Brian Cranston and the synopsis essentially is Brian Cranston is a judge in the heart of Louisiana, new Orleans to be exact. His son gets in a car accident and flees the scene, and then his father, the judge, starts using his power to help protect his son, adam. So in season one, as it goes along, adam befriends this girl and dates this girl. What Adam doesn't know is that girl, his girlfriend, her brother, is killed. Well, her brother was killed by Adam, but Adam didn't know that and she didn't know that. So that's essentially how season one ended, how

Speaker 1:

season one ended. But then when season two picks up, it all comes out the wash, where she finally kind of knows what happens to Adam or what Adam did, and she's kind of just like grossed out because essentially, adam kept that a secret, adam's father kept that a secret. And then also, um, her father, uh, the girl that he's dating, um, I can't think of what her name is. Uh, let me see, Cause I don't want to keep seeing the girl. Um, adam's girlfriend. So Adam's girlfriend. Let's see Adam's girlfriend. Her name is Fia Baxter. So Fia finally figures out what happened with her brother Rocco, and she's essentially turned off because Adam kept that a secret, adam's father kept that a secret and they end up having

Speaker 1:

a child together. But the biggest issue is that her father eventually finds out and he's a mob boss, um, so once he finds out, he wants to kill Adam. But before he can even kill Adam, adam gets shot. Uh, because they pin uh, the murder meaning Adam's father, the judge, brian Cranston on some other kid and they terrorize this kid in jail because when they pin that murder on him and said that he killed Rocco, well then the family, the Baxter family, seeks vengeance. And who happens to be in jail at that time? One of the Baxter kids who kill this kid named Kofi. So then Kofi's younger brother, at the end of season one, wants to kill the oldest Baxter sibling. He shows up to this party with a gun and shoots to this party with a gun and shoots. But he tries to shoot the older Baxter sibling and misses

Speaker 1:

and kills Adam. So then going into season two, like I said, the Baxter mob boss wanted to kill Adam but it already had happened. So at this point there's nothing going to be done, point. There's nothing going to be done. So he makes a proposition to your honor, the judge, bryan Cranston, to help his son beat this murder rap that he got in jail for killing Kofi and some other prior issues. So there's a bit of an entanglement there. All that going on, all while Fia finally realizes that her family's in the mob and then also realizing that Adam killed her brother Rocco, but it wasn't malicious, and then having to have that sit down, talk with Adam's father. So that's between season one and season two. They're talking about bringing a season three into play. They're talking about bringing a season three into play, but nonetheless it's a great series. Great, great, great series. I would definitely

Speaker 1:

highly recommend that. And then new releases coming for this week we have Star Trek Pottery a group of enslaved teenagers, still a derelict Starfleet vessel to escape and explore the galaxy. The American Barbecue Showdown a food competition that follows the country's best backyard smokers and competitive barbecuers as they compete for the title of the American Barbecue Champion and usually the last quest for most of these barbecuers is smoking a pig for 24 hours and making sure it's evenly smoked. One degree, one temperature off can throw everything off and make the pork be uncooked, and usually the judges can tell and they will basically disqualify the cook who has the worst pig. But it's a very interesting show. They usually show it right around this time, 4th of July. They'll drop it on Netflix and you can basically

Speaker 1:

binge watch it. And then 90 Day Fiance, the other way. Americans move to a foreign country, all in the name of love, while uprooting their lives in the United States. Will uprooting their lives in the United States pay off or will they be packing up and moving back to America broken hearted? I would say usually 90 Day Fiance is the better one because it's the beginning. It's the telling of the whole episode and how everything goes down and how these couples come together, having language barriers and seeing how they fit or they don't fit. Very interesting stuff to see these people come together, but it generally doesn't work out because there's always some ulterior motive from that person coming from the other country seeking quote unquote a green card to live in America, because usually once those couples get married. That's when the troubles start. And then the person goes MIA for a while and was like I can't find Sheila or I can't find Malachi. He's nowhere to be found. Yeah, after he's got his green card, dude's gone or she's gone. So it is what it is right Television shows here with great replay, great I can't even great

Speaker 1:

great replay value. Jamie Foxx show. Basically, this show here is about Jamie Foxx, loosely based on Jamie Foxx from Terrell Texas, who basically comes into California trying to pursue his music career, and as he's pursuing his music career, he has to basically moonlight and work at the King's Hotel for his aunt and uncle, aunt Helen and Uncle Junior Junior's a bit of a con man, so he's always doing something that's not on the up and up played by the famous Garrett Morris. But the show overall is great, always seeing Jamie Foxx on the show and how he interacted with the staff, one of the characters, francesca, that he always tried to mack on, and then his interaction between his player-hater, as he would call him, braxton Hartnebrigg. But the show overall, though, was great. For Jamie Foxx First sitcom. It really showcased his talent, his acting skills and singing. Every now and then you would get to get him up on the keyboards and see him singing on the show

Speaker 1:

impromptu for something. And then the Muppet Show. I loved the Muppet Show growing up at the time because you got to see the Muppets, the characters, interact amongst other Muppets. K up at the time because you got to see the Muppets, the characters, interact amongst other Muppets Kermit the Frog, miss Piggy, gonzo, fozzie the Bear and Scooter, and then also with that you got to see them interact with what would be humans. So you would have high profile actors come on actresses, musicians, athletes, artists, you name it all kind of riffing the cuff off of one another with the Muppets. So it was really great and mostly most of the time was on primetime. But yeah, I was a big fan of the Muppet Show. And then, lastly, bringing it out, here we have Orange is

Speaker 1:

the New Black. The show revolves around Piper Chapman, a 33 year old woman living in New York City. She unexpectedly is sentenced to 15 months in Litchfield Penitentiary and minimum security for women's federal prison in upstate New York. Her crime transporting a suitcase full of drugs and money for her girlfriend, alex Voss, an international drug smuggler. As Piper navigates the life behind bars, she encounters a diverse cast of fellow inmates, each with their own intricacies and unexpected stories. The series officially ended back in 2019, but it was a great series to see Piper Chapman navigate life behind bars and then also still trying to maintain her personal life before, life behind bars with her boyfriend, larry, played by Jason Biggs, and then Alex Voss. With her boyfriend, larry, played by Jason Biggs and then Alex Voss, the character who was essentially her prison wife while she was in prison. But the show I mean for it to run as long as it did, for I think about six seasons was pretty interesting and a great show with the ensemble cast of everything going on. It kind of gave you a life or a lens behind what kind of happens in women's prison, with the drugs, the abuse, and just how some of these women ended up in prison, who are not essentially criminals or hardened criminals, like you would think is. Just one bad decision led to this All right. Now, ending the show

Speaker 1:

PlayStation 5 released. I would say that the game reminds me a bit of Sonic Mario mainly those two games. Now, this one's a little different because it's not linear and it's not side scrolling across the screen like your Mario and Sonic. This one, more or less, is just open world environment and you get to go. And then we also have Luigi's Mansion 2 in HD released here just recently.
