Is the government of the United States corrupt? And if it is, is it possible that our Secret Service has been corrupted as well? Now, if this was a classroom and you were in the back of the class, you might be jumping up and down with your hand raised saying, I know the answer to this one, but I want to be careful as far as the conclusions that we draw, but I, and tempered. As far as our response, but I also believe that we as Christians need to really be looking at some of these things right now because we do have, I believe, a very serious problem with corruption in America. In the Bible, it talks about this corruption. Some of the words for it are depravity. And I want to look at Romans chapter one to, to begin the discussion today. By the way, my name's Rick Bloodworth. This is the Common Sense Christian Channel. And I want to look at these things. It's because of some of our recent events. Today is Tuesday July the 16th. It's almost exactly three days from the point that our former president Was nearly assassinated, and now we're starting to get all sorts of information concerning the events that led up to that assassination attempt, and it ought to concern a lot of people, but I want to come back and look at some of the root causes. for why we find ourself in the position that we do today. In Romans chapter 1, the Apostle Paul, through inspiration, starts talking about the sin that's going on in the world, and he talks about the fact that it's essentially going on because people have rejected God, and they've rejected his ways. In this passage 1, there comes a point where Paul says that they're without excuse. Well, in verse 28, where I want to start with, furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind to do what ought not Once people get so involved in their wickedness, there comes a point where God just lets them go their way. It's not that he abandoned them, it's that they abandoned him. And without God, you have no, no moral compass. You have, you have no standard. Other than whatever you think is best. And Paul is talking about a time that will come, and appears to be here right now, where everybody just does what's right in their own eyes. This has occurred numerous times throughout history, so it shouldn't surprise us. But as we look at some of the events that are going on in our modern times, sometimes we are very much surprised and, and we try and seek answers for why they're, why these things are happening. Well, in this passage, it just talks about the fact that when people reject God, he'll give them over to a depraved mind. Depravity is a moral correctness. It's a wickedness. Part of that corrupt definition is wickedness or evil. But, but another side of, of corruptness is just something being fouled. It, it's something that has been polluted to the point where it's not functioning like it should. You may have heard of a computer being corrupted with a virus or some other sort of outside source and, and once your computer has been corrupted, once the files have been corrupted, they're no longer useful for their original purpose. If you're working on an Excel spreadsheet and you're trying to, to do some kind of accounting or mathematical functions and, and the files are corrupted, you might as well just stop what you're doing. Because the computer is not going to work like it needs to. It's, it's not only worthless, it's worse than worthless because now you're going to come up with the wrong answer each time. The files have been corrupted. Well, it's like our society has had its files corrupted. Not only do we have a moral wickedness to us, but we also just, just have a a state where things are not working as they're supposed to, to work. Our society's been corrupted and, and we see that in the recent assassination attempt, don't we? I'm going to talk about that for just a moment. On Saturday night, there was a, there was a shooter that opened fire that, that actually killed one man, hit President Trump in the ear and struck two other gentlemen there. This, this shooter got off, they think, about eight shots. before he was taken out by the Secret Service. Now, now the immediate response was to praise the, the law enforcement and the Secret Service. And I want you to know that I have a great deal of respect for law enforcement. I have some really good friends who are involved in law enforcement all the way from, from, from just regular cops to, to to sheriffs. to, to those that work with the federal government and the FBI and, and different agencies. And, and these men and women that I know to a person have been exemplary. They're courageous. They make good decisions. They're, they're just a credit to their profession. But what we saw on Saturday was not a credit to any part of the law enforcement profession. We found out today on Tuesday. That's nearly half an hour prior to the shooter opening fire that he was flagged by law enforcement as being a suspicious person. But instead of taking that person in for questioning, the police just let him go. They couldn't tell if what he had was a range finder for a rifle or if it was binoculars. And well, they wanted to air, on the side of caution for this man's civil rights, I suppose. So they just let him go. But they did contact the Secret Service and let them know about that. And so the Secret Service started monitoring this man 26 minutes prior to the president being shot. 26 minutes. They saw the man crawl up onto the roof. They saw that the man had a rifle. There were, there were tactical snipers in the Secret Service, two of them just right together, one of them kneeling on the roof, the other one kind of, kind of lower than that, and they had this man who was about to open fire in their sight. Some reports have said for up to three minutes before he started firing, and yet, They didn't take a shot. They let this man get into position. They let him take aim. They let him start firing and finish firing. before they took the shot, the one shot, the single shot that, that took him out. They could have done that at any point along the way, but they decided to wait and allow the man to shoot until he was done shooting. What happened there? I'm not suggesting that these were immoral Secret Service people, but I am suggesting that there was something terribly wrong with what happened amongst the men. The law enforcement, the police officers on the ground that day, or many of them, some of them, and many of the Secret Service. There was a gap between what they should have done and what they did. I hope, I hope they get fired for this. I hope the head of the Secret Service gets fired for this. The head of the Secret Service is a woman by the name of, of, of Kimberly Cheadle. There's been some very adequate highly skilled women in law enforcement through the years. This is not one of them. Her claim to fame was serving with the Secret Service for, for a few years, then going on to be the head of security for Pepsi. And then she was chosen, I believe, on the basis that she was a social justice warrior. Her mantra was that she would make sure that 30 percent of the hires would be women hires for the Secret Service under her administration. It didn't seem like she was looking for quality at all. It seems like she was looking for diversity and equity. And I believe she got that. And I don't know about the two men that were up on the roof with the sniper rifles who were responsible for taking out the shooter well before he got off his first shot. But I can tell you, they failed in their duty. How did that happen? And I believe that the only explanation you can give is that we live in a depraved time. There is a depravity now amongst portions of our government, maybe large segments of our government. The one who is the head of, of the Secret Service is, is the, is the the chief of the Homeland Security. He was impeached earlier this year by the House, but he was, the impeachment didn't even get reviewed in the Senate, or it did and got rejected. They didn't put him up for trial. What was his, what was, did, was he impeached for? Well, it was for assisting illegals in coming in to America. He was, he was essentially performing enemy action. And yet the Senate decided, Oh, that's, that's all right. We like what he's doing. And now he's in charge of the secret service. And now he's doing things like, like allowing people like this, this Cheadle to, to do their diversity and equity and inclusiveness to the point now where the secret service does not function as it used to. I want to be very quick to stress. There are some really good people, men and women within the secret service. But they failed in their duty that day. And because of that, because of this corruption within this important segment of our law enforcement, of our government, it nearly changed the world. Now, the reason I believe Christians need to be thinking about this right now. is, is we don't live in the same times that we did a few years back. We actually have people who are in positions of authority who do not have our best interests in mind. It's true that, that people have often sought positions of authority because they just have a lust for power, but I don't know that we've ever seen it to this level before. I don't know that we've ever seen an intentional harm being done to the citizens of a country just so that people could get more and more power and more and more wealth, but that's apparently what we have now. We have a president whose mind's corrupted, don't we? He's not able to function as he used to be able to function, and yet he's been kept in office. Somebody has been making all sorts of decisions on his behalf for a number of years now. The corruption runs deep, all the way up to the top. And some of the corruption is wicked, and some of the corruption is just polluted files. Things aren't working the way they need to. But we as Christians need to be alert to this fact, and we need to be on guard about the idea of putting our trust in these people. because they're, they're no longer proving to be trustworthy. We need to start demanding that there be a return to character and honor and high morals, integrity. But most people, Christians included, will vote for others. for the reason that they hope that they will get more from this person than they would get from the other person. And because of that our entire system is corrupted. It's depraved. Part of depravity is almost an insanity, isn't it? We look, we look for explanations for things from a rational perspective and there's no rational explanation for it because what's going on is depravity. What we have going on right now is nothing short of depravity. So what do we need to be doing? Well, I believe there are several things we need to be doing. First, we need to be aware of it. Second, we need to be repenting of our part in it. And third, we need to be going to God and asking for his help and his assistance. And he loves us. He will help us and he will assist us, but we have to give up our sins first. Let me read that again in Romans chapter 1, 28, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind. When we decide just to go headlong into sin, God is a gentleman. He'll let us do that if we want, want to do that. But he's not then going to give us whatever we want after that. He's not going to give us the protection that's available in Christ. He's not going to give us the peace that's available in Christ. He's not going to give us the forgiveness that's available in Christ until we repent. The only thing he's going to give us is is give us over to a Paved mind to do what ought not be done. They've become filled. This passage continues. They've become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed, and depravity. They're full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, and malice. They're gossip, slanders. God haters, insolent, arrogant, boastful. They invent ways of doing evil. They disobey their parents. They are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless. Doesn't that sound like a list of a description of the way we have become in our society today? And why are we like that? It's because we gave up on God. Well, hopefully not you and I, but our society in general. The vast majority has given up on God and therefore he's given them over to these types of things. Christians need to be aware of that. Christians need to be very cautious as to whom they will pledge their allegiance to, as to whom they will follow, because we do live in unsettled times. We live in depraved times. The good news is this, God can handle this. If you are willing to serve God to the best of your ability in his way, he'll take care of your situation. You and I may have some difficult times to go through, but there's heaven waiting for us if we'll just be faithful to the end. And maybe that's a great place to conclude. Matthew chapter 24 and verse 12. Jesus was asked what were some of the things that would happen towards the, towards the end times. And one of the things Jesus told them very plainly was nobody knew about his second coming. That day was only known by God. So if Jesus didn't know about the day of his second coming, you and I can't possibly be smart enough to figure it out from observing the events. But we can tell when we're in the latter times, when it's, things are starting to, to come unwound. And Jesus said this in Matthew 24, verse 12, because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most. will grow cold. But the, he who stands firm to the end will be saved. I do believe we need to be aware of what's going on. I do believe we need to understand that there is a depravity that has taken over our government and even portions of our law enforcement. to the point where they are so corrupt, not just morally, but just corrupt in their process of thinking to where they can no longer act rationally. Those two snipers who had from the Secret Service who had the would be assassin in their sights had one job. It was to protect the president and to protect the crowd, and they chose not to do it. They chose to allow this man to open fire and to finish firing. before they took their shots, or maybe it better say that one of them took their shot. That's a corruption of thinking. It doesn't mean that they're immoral. It just means that their thought process is no longer rational. And so we need to understand that. In the latter times, the love of most will grow cold, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. You and I need to stand firm. We need to love our fellow man enough to try and help them along the way. But we also need to have our eyes open enough to understand that there is a lot of corruption, both from a moral perspective and from a mental acuity perspective. And once we understand that, then we need to perhaps start acting a little bit differently. We certainly don't need to be putting blind trust into men and women who have already denied Christ as their only savior. We need to start looking to God for our protection, to God for our peace, and to the Word of God for our answers, and we're going to do pretty good. But if we don't do that, we're going to get caught up in this spirit of depravity, this corruption. And I don't believe we can afford to do that and still be saved. Something to think about, isn't it? That's all for today. Appreciate your tuning in. I hope this gives you something to think about. Tomorrow I will try and have a video that's a whole lot more cheery, but I do believe these are the very types of things that we need to be thinking about from time to time if we are going to be any good in our service to God and any assistance to those who are going to need help during these times. Appreciate your tuning in. God bless you.
