Samson for Fathers & Sons
Dec 18, 2023 Season 1 Episode 5

This is my discussion in its entirety of the Biblical Samson for the "Fathers & Sons" series on my website (AthensCorner.com).  The purpose of the series on my website is to assist and guide fathers who themselves want to educate their sons in many of the greatest books of our Western heritage.  At issue here in the Samson discussion is the responsibility inherent upon Samson to his family and his people after being granted such greatness by God.  I also emphasize the ways in which, despite all his physical strength, we are repeatedly shown how dangerously weak he is amid the women he allows to nag him.  The repetition of that weakness throughout the story strongly suggests that we simply must recognize and understand the significance of principled resolve in establishing the ordering that is most proper to man in his personal life if he is to rightly be called a man. Indeed, according to the story, Samson cannot be said to have ever properly become a man from his promising adolescence.  Accordingly, the issue ultimately becomes the possibility of redemption when the possibility of greatness for excellence has itself become a great failure.
