Speaker 1:

Hi, loves, welcome to the Journey to the Soul podcast. I am your host, jacinda Villa, a spiritual life coach and holistic health coach. Every week, we will be diving deep into all things purpose, wellness, spirituality and creating the life that you dream of. This space is meant to be safe and transformative for you to dive into the deepest parts of yourself. I will share what I have learned from my journey along this path years of research and mentors along the way. Having spent many years living life out of alignment and afraid to go after my dreams, I know firsthand what it means to take the first step down, living a life authentic to you. We are on this road of self-discovery together. It is time for you to live the life you imagined. Hello, beautiful souls, welcome to this week's podcast episode. Welcome to this week's podcast episode.

Speaker 1:

I am very excited to touch on this week's topic with you. It was something that was percolating in my mind after I recorded the podcast episode Dear Me, thank you and it actually came to me as I was planning that episode, as I was writing it out, and I felt like this particular topic needed its own moment. It deserved its own discussion because there was so much that I wanted to expand on, and if you're reading the podcast episode then you're going to know it has to do with your desires. So that is what we're going to be touching on in this episode and in the Dear Me Thank you episode I did touch on having dreams and aspirations that are material, like many of us do, but also focusing on dreams and aspirations that are beyond the material, as, when it comes to achieving them, we typically just tie it to the material things. So to expand on that and to start, I really want to think about the feelings that most of us have when it comes to desire, and for many people it could feel like a bad thing to want to desire something, and I don't believe desire is a negative thing. I feel like it can really teach us so much about ourselves. Our desires can be a signpost about what we want out of life, a door into the life we aspire to have. So it's so powerful to be aware of them and to be able to work with them. To be aware of them and to be able to work with them, and what tends to be an issue with our desires is the attachment that we create around them. We become so tied to that specific thing, we give so much power to it, and this is where we create distress, and learning to be less attached to anything in life can really save us so much anxiety and setting us up for feelings of failure.

Speaker 1:

Another thing to think about as well is the energy in which we desire also matters. So you could really want something and you can let go, knowing that it will come into your life when it's meant to. So this is about surrender, and this creates a deep knowing and peace within you. There's also the other side of that. On the opposite end of the spectrum. We can also be constantly doing with a deep desire to achieve something, and this is almost desperate in nature, and this is almost desperate in for you to meditate more deeply on what comes up for you consistently when it comes to your dreams, your goals, your aspirations, your daydreams, all of that. I want us to take a closer look at it, and we are going to start with just discussing how we can see this in human design. And if you've tuned in from the beginning, then you know that this is a tool that I come back to time and time again, and it's because I feel like it can be so supportive to so many aspects of life.

Speaker 1:

In this episode we are going to be looking at a particular part of human design and, again, how it could be super supportive in this conversation about desires. What I want us to look at in this episode is the ego center in human design. It's sometimes also called the heart center or the will center, and if you are familiar with human design and you have your chart pulled up, then it is a triangle on the right hand side of the graph that sits right above the triangle to the right, so it's slightly lower on the right hand side. It's about four shapes down if you are counting from top to bottom, and it is the smallest triangles of all the triangles, so it sits right above the triangle to the right. And if you have never pulled up your human design chart or have never heard about human design, I suggest you tune into my episode about human design. It's unlocking your full potential with human design and I give more of a backing on it there, and I will, as always, of course, leave a link in the description box for you to be able to pull up your chart. In human design, the ego center is responsible for your willpower, drive, determination, ego, your sense of worthiness. So it's a wonderful thing to look at in your chart to better understand these aspects of yourself.

Speaker 1:

And in past podcast episodes we have talked about the difference between defined versus undefined centers. So if you have an undefined center, this is a center that is open for you or not colored in. If you have a defined center, this is a center that is colored in for you. And when it comes to the ego center, we're going to discuss how the undefined looks like and plays out as well as the defined. So if you have an undefined or opened ego center, you amplify the pressure to prove yourself. Yet you are not designed to be willful and competitive, so you have this pressure to need to prove yourself. But again, that does not come from you. It typically comes from the outside world and the way that the undefined center, how that affects the world around you and the way that this feels, is that, since you are completely open, you will take in and amplify the will of the defined, so people who have a defined energy center and the energy to prove and to compete.

Speaker 1:

So if you have a defined ego center, you have consistent will and energy to be able to work towards your desires, and this is an energy that is really a force to be reckoned with, and your desires are meant to guide you. They are really the breadcrumbs to your inner alignment and how this affects the world around you. You, having a defined ego center, conditions others with your ego and willpower. So this center that we are discussing has a huge influence in what society at large values. That's why so many people feel the urge and the need to have and want certain things A house, a car, a partner to live a certain lifestyle, to make a certain amount of money, to have kids and a family. We feel like we are meant to do certain things. There are certain check boxes that we are meant to go through in life and this is how we set those precedences is that they typically come from the people who have a defined ego center and, like I mentioned, if you are listening to this and you are undefined, you are simply taking this in and amplifying it for yourself as if you were defined, as if you do have the energy to prove yourself, the energy and the need to prove yourself or to compete with others, so that you can go through life and basically check off what we feel we need to have. About 37% of the population has this center defined and 63% have it undefined. That is a third of the population.

Speaker 1:

It's really important to ask ourselves why we want something, and the reason I brought this in is because, through the teachings of human design, we know that everyone is susceptible to conditioning. So, regardless of if you have this center defined or not, you can still be susceptible to conditioning. Those that have an undefined center are simply more susceptible to it, and in human design, conditioning is essentially taking in thoughts, emotions, feelings, expectations that are essentially not your own. It is not authentic to your internal truth. It's what we take in from the world. If you have an open ego center, a good question to ask yourself is do I think I have something to prove? You might find that you are doing so many things in your life from that state of mind, from those intentions and that is really what I want you to explore today because those are not coming from your truth. It's coming from what you feel like it needs to be for you. You might feel the pressure of those around you, or their indirect messaging of those people that do have a defined ego center, to go, push yourself to go, be worthy enough through the actions that you do. But again, that is not how you are designed to be. It will ultimately lead to dissatisfaction in your life and burnout if you try to meet those standards. We are not here to prove ourselves to anyone. Regardless of whether you have an undefined center or a defined center, it's important for us to make peace with this part of ourselves, to honor it, whether we do have some deep-rooted desires that we have or desires that we've held on to that are really not ours. To just make peace with it.

Speaker 1:

There have been moments in my life where I felt so much shame over wanting what I did. I actually kept my dreams very close to my heart because I had such a deep-rooted fear that the people in my life, and just people in general, would judge me, judge them and not understand why I could possibly want the things that I wanted. And from a pretty young age I've always known what I wanted to some degree. I have always had pretty big dreams. I've known what kind of life I wanted to create for myself, and it has evolved, of course, as my worldview has expanded. My dreams from 10 years ago are so different to the dreams I have today, but my dreams have always been my anchor for what I was working towards, and when I discovered that I had a defined ego center in human design, that was a confirmation for me that these desires were mine for a reason and as long as they were coming from a place that is authentic to me, then there is no reason why I can't achieve them. This was a huge learning lesson for me.

Speaker 1:

I have done many things in my life that were not aligned with me. I stayed on paths because I felt like the end goal was what I wanted for myself or I did it for someone else. It was before I knew the value in actually doing it for yourself. I was trying to go after someone else's dream, not mine, and I did reach some of those dreams After much discipline and effort, only to feel so unfulfilled at the end To reach that top that we dream of the top of the mountain and to realize that this was not what I wanted after all, and we have all done this at some point or another. We experience this disappointment in our life. When I was younger, I did have some regret over spending so much time and energy on so many of these things, only to realize it wasn't meant for me. It's like we spend so much of our time doing these things that we never really wanted. We just thought we wanted. And now we have to go back essentially and start from our authentic truth and build on that, and we feel like we've gone back four steps. I understand that every experience is simply an opportunity to gain wisdom and knowledge. So if you have felt that, if you have been in that position before, or if you are there now, know that there is no singular path to getting to where you want to go and your path is unfolding as it's meant to Because of this, I lived so much of my life in the future as well, this I lived so much of my life in the future as well, constantly thinking about the future and creating for the future.

Speaker 1:

I never slowed down enough to enjoy the present moment. That was something that was not in me. I did not know how to do that, and it's taken so much growth and practicing presence to be as present as I am today in my day-to-day life. Now I understand that the answer lies in me being present in the moment. The future is built in the here and now, brick by brick, and you can accomplish anything in this life with enough time and devotion. It simply takes us waking up every day and focusing on the 1% that we can do to make progress towards our dreams. That makes all the difference, and I still struggle with being present. It's a constant practice for myself to be here now, fully, and not get lost in the future. I feel like this has been one of the biggest things that I've been working on in my life is to cultivate more presence and to learn the balance between being here and also having some forward thinking.

Speaker 1:

The last thing that I want to touch on as we end this episode is jealousy. Jealousy can often prompt us to desire something. For most of us, we feel envy, insecurity, resentment over what people have, so then we want it for ourselves. But something to keep in mind is that this jealousy is coming from something greater within ourselves. We feel like, at this moment in time, our life is lacking in some way, that something is missing in it. So I simply invite you to notice whenever you do feel jealous and sit back with yourself and ask yourself what you feel like you don't have enough of, or what you feel like maybe you are not worthy of having for yourself, because ultimately, we are all capable of having what any other person has achieved in life. They are just a mirror of what is possible. There is a path for us to get there if we wanted that for ourselves.

Speaker 1:

So dismantle the envy, the insecurity, the resentment that comes Because you are worthy of having these desires work through whatever it is is being triggered in you, and if you feel resentment, know that what is meant for you will unfold in divine time. And all of these things the envy, the insecurity, the resentment they really just rob us of being in the present moment and actually being able to enjoy our life. Jealousy robs us of so much of our life that we are living today, in this moment, because we are desiring something that we don't have right now. So it's up to us to take our power back when it comes to this, to choose not to feel these things, to step away and disconnect from the feelings that it is triggering in you, because these feelings have so much more to tell us. So really look into why you are feeling envy, why are you feeling insecure and why you are feeling resentment. Challenge those beliefs. With all this in mind.

Speaker 1:

I want you to ponder on these questions and take as much time as you need. You can journal, meditate, sit in silence with them, come back to them later if that's what you need and I invite you to simply explore your desires and what they are showing you. Why do you want something? What is your motive? What do you feel it will bring into your life? And once you have that narrowed down, is this coming from your heart, a deep need that is within you, or is this something that you want that is simply filling a greater need? And lastly, are your desires really yours or someone else's? Are you trying to prove something else's? Are you trying to prove something by accomplishing these things? And once you have all of this written down or in mind, as you're looking at your desires or what revelations came through as you are answering these questions, these things are showing you a deeper part of yourself and simply validating what you know is true for you. So let yourself own that truth shamelessly. Step into the power of knowing that is meant for you. Scream it from the rooftops if you want, or perhaps they can be showing you that this is not what is meant for you and it is completely okay to acknowledge that this is no longer true for you, or never was, and to let go of any shame we may feel about us no longer working towards a big or small goal. With both of these sides. It's for us to release the shame, and honoring ourselves, regardless of what the exercise brings up, is the most important thing.

Speaker 1:

I love to dream. I am a huge dreamer and I feel like I spend half of my time thinking about all the wonderful possibilities that we can experience. It just makes me so happy. I feel like I have so much to work towards that I want to experience in this life. That's part of my reason for waking up in the morning. I spent so much of my childhood and teenage years stuck in fantasy books, absorbing them and bringing them into life in my mind. Now that I am older, I see that it was me bringing visions to life in my mind like I do today. This is still something that I do every single day, and the inception starts in the mind, but then it is up to us to bring it to life in the three-dimensional world.

Speaker 1:

Dreaming is vital for our evolution, for us to continue to progress and push ourselves into new realms. Life continues to unfold and show us its depth. There is so much for us to experience. We have only begun to scratch the surface. Isn't it amazing to think about all the lives we will get to live in our lifetime? I am sending you all so much love until next week.
