What is the South Asians Rising Podcast about?
A brief explanation of why I created this podcast and what you can expect from it
Hi, I'm Andrea. I am the host of the South Asians Riding Podcast and I thought I'd create a quick video just to give you my why behind creating this podcast and some context behind it. I feel that within the South Asian community we're only human, so we're going to go through life experiences, and some of them can be quite bad, but we tend to not talk about it right Because we feel fear of judgement or we're worried about what that would mean for our reputation or our family's reputation and all the pressures that we feel. There's a lot of stigma attached to certain experiences as well, so it can be really lonely and feel isolating to go through these things and then have that added level layer of shame and guilt of what the community will think right. So when I became a coach a few years ago, I had quite a few South Asian clients and something that really struck me was a lot of the clients were saying that this is the first time that they've even opened up to somebody, and a lot of them didn't even know how to open up because they've literally never done it before, but they'd gone through these experiences and suffered in silence because they didn't have the strength to all the confidence to talk to people about it, out of what people might say. So it became really important for me to create a platform so that we can start to change this narrative.
Speaker 1:I really want to normalise that. It's okay not to be okay. It's okay to talk about mental health. It's okay. If you've gone through a life experience that's been out of your control, it's not your fault and you don't need to feel shame and guilt about it.
Speaker 1:So I've created this podcast as a platform for people within the South Asian community to come on board and share their stories of challenges that they've overcome, so that other people can listen in and learn from that. People who may be going through a similar challenge right now, instead of suffering in silence, hear from somebody else who's been through it and learn from their mistakes and how they've managed to turn things around from themselves. So I really want to encourage more openness, more vulnerability. I want it to be okay for people to talk about things and not feel shame or guilt about it. So that's my mission.
Speaker 1:I'm trying to make a difference to at least just one person and I'll be really happy with that If you do want to be a part of the show I'm opening up for season two guests now, so please do reach out to me. I'll be happy to have a chat with you. So I hope you enjoy this podcast and feel free to reach out. Leave a comment if you are interested in certain topics or if something that you hear resonates with you. I'd love to hear from you. Thank you.
