Is optimism the ideal we should all be aiming for or is there a better approach?

In today's world, we often hear "be optimistic" or, in other words, "things will get better". We contend that things will get better...only if you take intentional action to make it so. There is a sense of hope or wishing associated with optimism that can rob us of the full learnings of an experience or even take away our agency to make the necessary improvements. It requires reflection and honesty to accept the current reality of a situation and then taking the appropriate action to move forward.
