What is Faith?

“He said to her, "Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace, and be healed of your disease." - Mark 5:34

In the story of the woman who was healed from 12 years of bleeding, Jesus told her that her faith had made her well. What was that faith?

Her faith had very little if anything to do with any of the various confessions of faith Christians recite. She knew nothing of Jesus’s birth status. Jesus hadn’t been arrested, tried, executed, or resurrected. She didn’t pray the yet to be written sinners prayer.

In this story, her faith was nothing more and nothing less than her belief that she could be made whole if she could somehow connect with Jesus. Her faith was her absolute determination to get past, around or through any obstacle that prevented her from doing so.

Do we believe that we can be made whole? Do we believe that we can become the healthiest, best versions of ourselves? Or are we just going to settle for the brokenness within and around us?

The power of God transforms us. It’s up to us to trust in that power and to put in the work to connect to it.
